What is the difference between product design, UI design, UX design and ui UX design and the future of the design in a different way. Lot of people don't understand the basics itself. If you understand the basics, only you can understand how the future is going to come and then you can able to enjoy where your, where you will be fitting and what kind of a design you will be doing it in the future. There is no more thing like generically I'll become a product designer, I'll become a UI designer, I'll become a UX designer. No, always remember we are a problem solvers. UI is a way to interact, experience is a way to give it. Product is a way to holistically see and serve. Okay. Service based industry is a service which you are giving. So there are huge differences in this podcast. We are going to see the differences and we are going to see how the future of the design is going to be and what are all the emergence of AR&VR&XR Technologies which is coming up. Okay, let's jump in. Welcome guys. Welcome to this Design for Change podcast. Thank you for staying tuning in with me. Particularly this is a very important feedback, particularly a lot of people have given me jagdish. I'm not having the clarity of what a product designer does, what is UI design does and what is UX design does. Let me tell you guys, very, very simple product design covers the entire product life cycle. UI design takes care of the visual design and interface part of IT experience. Take care of giving the whole experience of how you're using the product. Let's say if you're using a mobile app, what is your experience from starting to ending. So understand there is a whole life cycle for a product design. For the banking application also, whatever you're designing, there is a whole interface part also which is available for a banking application. So you need to be clear which is product, which is the interface part and which is the overall experience.
Okay?
And then only you can able to do. Let me tell you the responsibilities of a product designer. He does market and user research, he does the conceptual and prototyping development, he collaborates with cross functional teams and he balances out the business goals and user needs. This is very, very important guys. Whereas the UI designer takes care of visual elements, typeface, graph, graphics, colors, create wireframes, mockups. He also works closely with the designers and developers and other teams, but he ensures the visual consistency across the product and services. Whereas a UX designer does the research part, does the implementation part, does the research and Testing and he creates the user journey, he empathizes with the user, he creates information architecture, he plans all these things. But he majorly works on creating the user experience based on the needs and the empathy. What he found in the process. Product designers integrates everything and management takes this as a whole product and sell it in the market. This is how the entire thing happens. Guys, I think you should be now getting clarity in this branch. There are many in depth designs, like let's say graphic design, like, let's say there are typeface design, like let's say there are what you call in depth if you go. There are like digital game design, there are web application design, there are responsive design available for different, different devices and there are many techniques inside it. And there are designers who are now storytellers. There are designers who can create only systems. There are designers who can create exhibition spaces, there are designers who do only interior. So everything comes under this.
Okay?
Based on the niche what you are having, based on the micro niche where you wanted to focus. And each industry has a different set of design responsibilities. But on a whole a product designer, a UI designer and a UX designer does what I've explained you. If you're not understanding, go back to this podcast and listen to it one more time. You'll get clarity. Now let's come to the second part of this podcast future. Okay, what are the future of this design? See guys, extended reality is the ultimate future. What we have right now, augmented reality and VR reality mean virtual reality has been already there and it has powered a way for us to create the mixed reality and the extended reality. Because we need to know it's not about putting some head viewer and then we are immersing into the world. It's also looking into the real world and finding the finding the augmented reality and then having the both experience together. Then and only people will feel comfortable as if they. That is why the whole usage of virtual reality has been very much fading away.
Okay?
It creates an immensive experience. Guys, you have to make your products and service looks very intractable, very personalized for a particular user target. Right? This is how the future is going to be. And you need to be prepared. Guys. See always stay updated with what is happening in the industry. You can read some Forrester journal, you can predict some trends in Gartner. You can find out the metrics using Deloitte and McKenzie statistics. You can also find lot of UX related testing and accessibility statistics in Niels and Norman Group. This creates a base for you. You will Know where the design industry is leading. It's not like you're only reading some newspapers and articles and everything. You need to read this kind of a statistics and information. Also what is there in the industry. Please learn many softwares like let's say Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender and these kind of softwares will help you out to understand how the immersive experiences are created right now. You know what? There are many AI tools which does it very very very efficiently. There are many AI plugins which can do a better job in Blender and other Unity softwares. Please go and learn it. It's a skill which you can develop. It's not mandatory, but if you are interested in the future like this, definitely you can spend time to learn towards it. You can get familiarized with programming language also. Nothing wrong in it, C, C, Python, it's all fine guys. You can learn it. If you are interested, you can learn because many times you will be empathizing with your developers and other teammates.
Okay?
First majorly focus on the user centered design. See, even you might be focusing on the industry trends, developing some technology skills, skill set, tools, everything. But always focus on researching about what does the customer need towards the technology. Or else the technology is not usable, it's not accessible, it's not inclusive.
Okay?
And please keep on experimenting. See this? This is how you also see the future in a different way. Keep experimenting with AR glasses, VR glasses, how people are using it. Use some features using your Figma and sketch whatever prot type you're building. Try to implement those interface in your portfolio itself, in your website itself, in your customer experience itself. So that you can show this kind of a low fidelity wireframes to your customers. First how this is really working in real time. And then slowly you can take it up into high fidelity and implement it.
Okay?
Collaborate always with your cross functional team and completely invest time in your learning guys. See if you're learning and getting upgraded in the trends and technologies and tools and softwares, then and only you'll be a part of this future or else. There are many AI tools which is already replacing industries guys. So please be little careful about people who know. All these AI tools will definitely replace you for sure, which is already happening.
Okay?
AI is not directly coming and sitting in front of your computer and doing it but one or the other way people who knows this AI tools are already replacing. Okay, See Ikea has actually implemented AR based application to visualize their products and furnitures in real time space. Google Tilt Brush uses a virtual reality app for painting out a 3D space, you can, you can go and read all these case studies, guys. You will get a clarity because all of these industries are already doing it. Create a very good simple AR guys. I'll give you some activities which you can follow it up, okay? Because listening to this podcast will not change you anything. Taking action in a right direction will change. Having learned the difference between product design, ui, ux, UI design, having understood the future, how you can predict and be a part of it, now you can do this activities. Create a very good simple augmented reality experience using Adobe Aerospace. It's a very simple software.
Okay?
Conduct some feedback sessions with your peers and your customers or clients and get us some feedback. Now connect a user research on why using AR&VR enhances the product user experience in a different way. Now create a user journey. Now create a journey map. See, do the reverse. Now you come back again to the AR tool and create the user interface which is robust. If you conduct this in a hands on experience, guys, by doing this process, starting from the sketch, starting from storyboard templating, understanding the importance of this user interface and then implementing in your software, in your solutions, in your portfolio, this will help you build a great clarity on how you can able to leverage the advantage of this particular thing. A lot of people don't understand this. That is why they go into a big, big trouble. That is why they understand, they get scared with the technology. They could say hey Jagdish, I'm really scared here. How do I, how do I. What you call, how do I find out if this is really, really required? Like I'm really scared. Lot of people are talking about this, tools, that tools. And a lot of people are talking about how the trend is going to be. If you are, if you wanted to become a big part of it, you have to learn all these things. See guys, the average salary of a product designer in US is approximately $85,000 per year. Senior product designers can earn up to $120,000 year annually. Glass dose. This is some salary data.
Okay?
UI UX designers in US earn about $76 per year while the UX designer earn around 85,000 annually per year. And also in India, the average salary of a ux designer is 6 to 8 LP. A senior designer gets approximately 11 to 14 LPA. A UX researcher gets 12 to 15 LPA. So this is some statistics, what I'm telling you. If you're leveraging this technology, if you're leveraging this trend, you can go up to even more Higher salaries using these technologies, using this AR&VR and extended reality where companies is creating even more experience, creating even more products, pricing their products very very high so that they can also give that kind of a outcomes for their customer. If you are a part of that big company, definitely your salaries will grow high. Guys, job market is already there 10 percentage every year. Product industry is creating more opportunities, more job vacancies and your responsibility as a product designer, as a UI designer, as a UX designer should be very careful in understanding this. Then and only you will see the future. Can I tell you something? The Global AR&VR market is projected to grow by 28 billion in next four years which is 2028. Accumulated average growth is 35 percentage. This is a report by Statista. 70% of the 4 global 2000 companies are investing in AR&VR technology for various applications. A research by Forresters found that. So understand very carefully guys. 60% of the design schools have integrated AR VR modules in their curriculum itself. Even when I studied it in id, it was there. We are using NIT software to create some interior user experience, design experience to give for the customer for a product which we are designing inside a room and space. Professional development programs focus on AR and VR technology and has increased by 50 percentage over the last three years. Report by Gartner. That means even in the development, even in the design, even in the professional organization. AR VR is inevitable guys. So you need to know this is how the future is being seen apart. And many of the industries like Nike, Ikea, they have really used this AR technology to increase their conversion rate up to 20 percentage. Report by Forbes IKEA app has really made lot of visual furnitures in their homes by enhancing the customer experience and it has boosted their sales by 35 percentage. This is a research by Statista at 2023. So it's not only knowing about this AR VR guys. It's about understanding how much impact it is creating already. And then you will see how you can play a bigger part in this particular era. Okay, I hope this podcast would have given you clarity. If you find this useful, please comment me. What did you learn? Your top learning if you're listening in Apple and if you're listening in Spotify and if you find this useful, please share it with others also and give me a best star rating in Spotify and Apple 5 star rating.
