Jagadeesh P argues that designers carry ethical responsibility to create work that is inclusive, sustainable, and emotionally connected. He covers how technology, usability, cost, and human impact should shape every design decision.
Great design comes with great responsibility. You might have heard this word somewhere in the spider man, right? With great power comes great responsibility. So same like that. When you have to become a great designer, when you have to create a great impact, that comes with a lot of responsibility. In this I'm going to tell you what are the six things which you have to remember if you are taking that responsibility. Being a designer. Because design is not just randomly making some screens and 3D models right in front of you. Design is all about having that ethical code of honor which is must needed for a designer in order to make his design very, very, very sweet spot, sustainable, superb. And also make it used by millions and billions of people. Okay, the very first point, what I would like to tell you is inclusivity. Inclusivity. A lot of designers are now forgetting they don't understand it has to be used by everybody. Like let's say the specially abled people, the dumb and deaf people and blind people and every, every other people who's having multiple disabilities, they should be also able to use it. Let's say if you're designing a particular product like let's say a screen, how can a blind see it? Of course, blind cannot see the screen. How can you at least hear the visuals? How can you hear the audio? How we can able to understand the meaning, how we can able to create some experience in the braille. So think about everybody is there in the equation. And this world is not only for you, it's not only for the people who are having all the senses. Okay, so inclusivity is a great responsibility you need to hold. Second, you need to make it intuitive and technology friendly. If you're not making this as a technology friendly product, people won't be able to use it. Any people who have all the sensors will not be able to use it carefully. You need to leverage the power of AI. You need to leverage the power of gen AI quantum computing. How the design models are being integrated with these AI tools and how technology is going in a pace and how you can able to use design thinking to leverage that very carefully. Because if you're not using the AI tools in order to find out the best leverage sweet spot for you, you are not taking a big responsibility of upcoming generation and solving big problems. Okay? The second is technology and intuitive. The third, making sure it is usable, functional and accessible. A lot of people ignore this factor. They think about only business cost. How it is what you call making the profits for the business and how we can able to capture the market. Nobody cares about what the user needs. That is a big responsibility which you need to earn. Okay, the third is user centric design which comes with the usability, which comes with the functionality, which comes with the user centric approach. Design in the mind. There are many methods and frameworks to find it out. In our earlier podcast and videos you can able to find it out how we can able to do a user centric design which is more app. The third thing, the fourth important responsibility which you need to take if you want to become a great designer is sustainability. If you're not having a sustainability, if you're not having the material choice, if you're not having the after usage of your products and service as the right choice in front of you, you're not leading anywhere. See every product or a solution, whatever you have, it's going to have a material part and a digital part as well. Okay. Digital part also has a sustainability. How it is sustainable, how it is very good in terms of people to use it, what are the carbon footprint of it? So you need to think about both of these aspects. When you're looking for a problem statement when you're working in a company, when you're looking for a bigger problem statement to solve without sustainability, you cannot have the promise of any design solution to be delivered. Hey Jagdish Vaatiyar. I'm finding much difficulty in finding out the job and internship for me as a designer. Don't think all these things, guys. When you have this mindset ready with you as a responsibility person, being a designer, automatically bigger opportunities will come to you. It is not the other way around. Oh, first I'll get the job, then I'll become responsible. It doesn't work that way. You cannot expect a plant to bear the fruit without nurturing and watering and putting sunlight properly. You're working against the law of nature. You won't become succeed. You won't become success. You'll be still searching only the jobs and everything. Nobody's going to ever reply in LinkedIn or anywhere. Nobody's ever going to call you and hire you for anything, even your client. Think about it. Because the code of honor and the ethics, whatever is said so far, for a designer to be having that responsibility, then and only you become the person and you attract the right job and opportunities. When you are doing that, there is nothing which can stop you. Okay, the fifth important code of honor for a designer to have a great responsibility is cost and the business viability. Yeah, it's very important to understand that as well. After understanding all this Factor you need to make sure it is costly, cost effective. Right? People have to afford your product, People have to afford your service. If they are not able to afford your product or service, do you think they will be able to use by millions of people? Only in research laboratories that particular product will have a business. Viability is a major part. Talk to your marketing, talk to your research team, talk to your sales, talk to your user centered product, whoever is using your product and make sure find it out what are the sweet spot we can able to provide the service or the product with the affordable cost once. If you are able to think in this direction, there is a huge connect between what you already connected now. Okay, so the very first thing is inclusive design. The second thing is making it cost effective and also technology friendly. The third one is the technology and AI. Okay? The fourth is how we can make it more centric towards usability, functionality, empathetic and accessibility. Okay? The next is sustainability. In order to make the product or service more sustainable and affordable for everybody in order to use it, not harming the environment, not leaving too much carbon footprint. You need to balance this equation. Okay? And the last important responsibility which you need to take as a designer is any guess. Guys, if you're watching this video, type out what is your sixth guess? Type out. It's okay, maybe if I'm not watching you live. But you need to, you need to type it out because one or the other way I'm going to see it later. Let me understand. Okay, So I believe very strongly the sixth important factor. Being a designer, you need to have the responsibilities emotion. If you're not able to build your design with the emotional connect for the people, emotional connect for the sustainability of the world. Emotional connect for the entire environment and the planet. You won't be able to connect with your product. People will not connect with your product. Business will not connect with your product. Users and anybody, they won't have connect with your product at all. If that emotional touch is there, people will be able to use your product for years. See, there are totally 16 personality of people around this world. Okay? There are four different connectedness. What the 16 personality people have, we are designing only for this four different type of people under 16 personality people. If you can understand this and understand the characteristics of these people and create an emotion to design your product, people are going to love your product forever. Guys, Apple is able to sell their iPhone for 1.5 lakhs and still people are buying it. Nobody has ever thought 1 lakh. 1.5 lakh a smartphone will be. People are now buying it. They have found out the exact emotional reason why people are buying it. It's not only for aesthetics. It's not only for functionality. It's also for the emotional connect what people are having in this. I'm not talking about aesthetics at all. Have you ever wondered Aesthetic comes very later, but the six responsibilities if you have as a designer to code your ethics, to code your design, privacy and the policy and the discipline what you're building, then you become a great responsibility as a designer. With the great designers comes the great responsibility. If this six responsibilities are understood by you, you're going to see a very different career for the design. Okay, see you in another episode. Make sure you type your top three takeaways in this particular video or the podcast wherever you're watching. And also make sure you claim the free gift which is available. Okay once if that free gift is gone, I'm really sorry guys because a lot of people have asked me in the past few days gift is gone.
