Welcome to this podcast. Thank you for staying tuning here in Design for Change. Very, very important topic we have today is choosing the right problem statement. In fact this is a big time problem for many, many designers out there in the market. The reason why this podcast is recorded is you need to get the concept of how to do a problem statement and how to choose a right problem statement for the right industry and how to define it, what are the steps, what are the techniques to do it and how you can practice with your earlier projects itself and how you can choose for your new projects. Also we have a lot of skills recorded so far. Like let's say close to 6th day, we are in the total 100 day journey and listen to earlier episodes as well. And whatever is your pain point, go to our design for change podcast channel in Spotify or Apple and type out your keywords there. The moment if you write it, you will find one or the other way some pain point is already addressed. In that case. Okay, and if you still wanted to understand Jagdish, my point pain point needs to be also taken. Please write out to that email given in the Spotify and definitely will be more than happy to address that. Doing our research and coming back to you, particularly today we have something called problem statement. How to choose the right problem statement. Big time problem. The reason why I told with the students is seriously they are choosing anything randomly to solve as a problem. Many people I've seen guys in the design industry out there are having a good skills, but the problem here is they don't know how to use that skills in order to get hired, in order to get materialized, in order to get some results, right? The problem statement you are going to have, it should have some kind of a value, right? Either you are building a startup or either you're applying for the job or either you are just using it to practice your skill. It needs to have some relevancy. That is the reason this podcast is coming into picture. Okay, let's start with the step one. See when you choose the right problem, you will have enough motivation to work. You will have a correct strategy and a focus to really to go forward. You will not waste time. First of all, a clear problem statement will strengthen your project. It makes a very, very crystal clear communication to the industry recruiters or the people who are going to see your portfolio today. When we see portfolio hundreds of every single day guys, very generic, too much overcrowded, everybody, whatever has their problem statement, they are also having the same kind of a need there. So when we have A repeated problem statement when 10 other 20 other people are also solving the same problem, what is the point? So there is no differentiating factor, There is no clarity in what you're doing. So the specific you go, the more strength it becomes. How to do this? First of all, I told you the interest test. We can able to do it. Like let's say if nobody is going to ever pay for you, will you still go and solve that problem? And that is the only way to find out whether it really excites you or not. If that answer is yes, then you can go for the second framework which is called 5w1h. So who is your target market? What is that exact problem statement and where is that particular target market available in the geography and why it is very important now and how are you going to solve it? And when are you going to solve it? If you can able to put your problem statement in this question and when you have a notepad and pen to write it down, you will have a clear frame and a structure for it. Okay, and then third is you can go for the online validation and find it out whether relevant statistics and information is there or not.
Okay.
Then you can do some statistical analysis using the tool called Glassdoor insights and LinkedIn Premium insights and Statista and Toffler and answerthepublic.com these are all some tools. And you can go to my YouTube channel also. I've taken deep case study also to live demo for this tools. How we can able to find it out live in my channel. Since this is a podcast, I'm just recording an audio.
Okay.
And then fourth, fifth is you have to find out whether it's really emerging market or not. What happens is when you choose a random problem statement, when it is not aligned, you will not find industry which is matching there.
Right?
This entire activity will go in waste of time. So find out that industry, find out that gap, find out that statistics and then start taking action. So when you do it, you'll be able to get even more clarity, guys. So why it is very important to do this way? Why not random way? First of all, a dopamine hit happens when you do it this way, guys. Because it is very aligned to your interest. So that is the first thing. Second, you will have so much of clarity instead of having a big vague problem statement. When you make it into 5W 1H approach, the breakdown of the steps happens. Once the breakdown happens, then we can go and solve one by one, step by step in a more easier way. Okay, and third is it is more aligned towards your interest. So when people are asking, you will have much authority to answer them. When people are reviewing your project, you will have so much clarity in explaining them and you will have enough motivation to go and do a field research study and then you will bring the final solution.
Okay?
And then let me tell you guys, 72% of the companies fail this approach. They don't have a process to do a problem statement. That is why they don't find out the real user need and solving it. This is a design industry data and employees who are working on the passion projects reported higher job satisfaction productivity compared to any other people. So people are not switching job for only the money reasons. It's also for the satisfactory index reasons.
Okay?
And validated problem statement. Reduce your design iterations and it improves your problem solving ability and your faster delusion project happens. Okay, so these are all the benefits and the statistics available. Okay, what are all the AI tools which we can use Jagdish to do this? The very first tool I would highly, highly recommend is ChatGPT.
Okay.
The second tool what you can use is perplexity. The third tool what you can use is Cloud AI. The fourth tool what you can use is Googlebot. The fifth tool what you can use is Microsoft Copilot. The sixth tool what you can use is Answer the Public.com. the seventh tool what you can use is simplified. So there are a lot more AI tools available and then you can able to experiment it. You can use job statistics tools called Statista and Toffler. And then you can use there is a tool called Glassdoor insights, LinkedIn premium insights. So everything could be aligned. Okay, so this is the most important thing. Now let's come to a real time activity. Now you take one problem statement. Think about whether if nobody is going to ever pay for that, will you still do it? And then second, try to find out how you can able to solve it in a very, very quicker span of time. Like let's say one day starting from the morning to evening. If you can make a plan for two, two hours, like let's say four sessions, four into to eight hours in a day to try to solve this problem very simply. The workbook for solving that problem is attached in this description as well. Guys, you can able to find it out very easily.
Okay?
Because if you are completely blind, if you're not able to understand what is happening, you can still follow that workbook very simply so that you can deliver this at least. Okay? The power of one workbook is attached in this description as well. You can find it out.
Okay.
Or you can just send one email to us. We will immediately send it back to you. Not a problem at all.
Okay.
And once if you're doing this automatically, you will have clarity how you are going to implement this. Because listening to this podcast will not change anything. Taking action and completing that one problem statement, what you chosen and doing it for a day will able to help you solve problem.
Okay?
