How can I get a job when I wanted to work remotely as a designer? Right. So after the pandemic there has been a steep increase of remote jobs and flexible jobs and work from home jobs. And you can know like there are 159 percentage increase in remote working jobs according to a statistics by Flex Jobs and Global Workplace Analytics. But the point is there are some limitations also and there are steps where you can improve yourself to get those remote jobs. This podcast is going to exactly address that. So take a lot of notes. Now it's going to be a real interesting fact because a lot of people are looking for jumping into a remote kind of a career being a creative designer. And this is a podcast exactly going to give you action plan and steps how you can do it. Okay, let's dive deep into this topic. Welcome guys. When it comes to remote jobs, you have to understand there is a big growth after the pandemic, as I rightly told you. And also there has been a what you call restrictions also like I would say there are four different drawbacks which even companies also facing. Because of that lot of resistance is coming when it comes to recruiting the candidate. The first thing is it's only limited opportunities are there. Okay? Of course it has grown after pandemic, that's for sure. But it is always a limited kind of a working opportunity in remote compared to your physical job. Right? The second thing is it's very difficult to establish your communication when it comes to talking to the recruiter as well. A lot of people are not effectively doing that. And a lot of people are what you call not trained enough to do that. Okay? That's why they're not able to establish that. The third is they're not able to exactly adopt to that kind of an environment. Like they are not able to effectively showcase their portfolio, their resume, their communication so that people will not be able to exactly demonstrate when it comes to physical interview or physical office, the things are different. People may have you judged in a different way. People will have a develop your perspective in a different way. But when it comes to remote, it's definitely challenging. Unless until you are not trained properly, you will be able to fail. And the other thing, what companies fail is cultural fit. You're not able to fit culturally because people expect that kind of opportunity. How you are able to fix in your organization forever, it's not like one or two days, right? So you're going to be there for this organization for a couple of years at least. So that cultural fit also you need to be able to demonstrate it. And there are a lot of distractions when you work from home, right? This is what recruiters and all these people really think. But let me tell you guys, there has been a huge amount of shift which has happened after pandemic. As I rightly told you, there is a statistics by products in 202047 Percentage increase in productivity people have reported after working from home. 82% of the recruiters really allow people to work from home. Sometimes like a hybrid model or a semi work from home office. So this is a report by Gartner. So what it really shows there are huge advantage which companies is also having. Which as a designer we have to understand and leverage that to get selected. So here is the eight things, guys. Okay, so the first thing is you need to custom build your resume and portfolio to showcase your skills accordingly. Let's say if you're working in a home, let's say if you're having some kind of a skills which you can really what you call demonstrate without any kind of a support, you will have to showcase that projects. You'll have to showcase that skill. You'll have to project that in a way so that it's custom tailored for remote jobs. If it is a general portfolio, what you have, you need to have separately for the remote job. People are normally lazy to do. Making one portfolio itself is difficult, they say sometimes. So this is a big block. This is a big problem also. Okay, this is the first step, making your custom build resume portfolio for remote jobs. The second important thing is you need to network a lot guys. Because networking is really, really important when it comes to finding the right connections in a remote job. A lot of people, you know what? You can't just have a very initial call with the interviewer recruiter to get you hired for a remote job. Chances are very less unless until you're really trained enough. But when you go through a network, when you go through a referral, when you go through your circle, your friends, the trust and credibility is already built. People really underestimate the power of networking. They are very scared to talk to people, right? So the problem is if you're able to exactly talk to different, different people and establish that network normally. I used to circulate a sheet for my students which we used to build a strategic way to contact people, to contact recruiters, to contact designers. Because of that sheet, we have 13 parameters to measure based on which we effectively network so that we will have a strong Data. More than 60 companies we have what you call filled in that sheet. It Covers cultural thing, it covers salary hike, it cultures the work nature, it covers the promotion and benefits and the growth of the industry. So all these things needs to be measured when you go for an apply for a job. Because if you do networking, you will be able to effectively handle this kind of things, guys. It's always about you getting fit to that organization. You need to first think about it before you go for any kind of a job for remote and all this kind of an analysis which you need to do. That is why networking is very important to collect this much of information and research before you go into it. Okay, this is the second most important thing if you wanted to get a successful remote job. The third thing is you need to have a very good strong online presence, guys. You need to have a very personal branded website or you need to have a very good knowledge in terms of how you can build a portfolio which is having strong presence in LinkedIn, which is having a good portfolio in like let's say you can have it in Instagram, you can have it in other good social media platforms. Your online person needs to be very, very strong. Let's say you have a lot of followers. Let's say if you have a lot of people who have liked your design post or your design project or something, you can code that as an advantage like being a remote worker. You are able to achieve this kind of an attraction because you have that skill and you need to show a lot of skills which a lot of tools knowledge which is like collaborative tools, how you can work remotely. You need to show you have a lot of knowledge in Miro tools. MIRO is a very good collaborative online tool. You can use figma. Figma is a collaborative tool. Figjam. Figjam is a newly built AI platform for figma so that you can use to collaborate with various amount of people and how effectively you can manage a project and work. And you need to show your skills in InVision. InVision is a good software which you can learn faster. You need to be proficient in Google tools and you need to be proficient in Microsoft tools which is like teams, which is like chat, which is like Outlook, which is like video conferencing. So you need to be very good in terms of adequate in handling these things. You need to be proficient in video calling, you need to be proficient in messaging, you need to be proficient in sending emails. You need to be very good effective communicator. So showcase all these things in your online presence so that people will have a conviction. Yeah, this candidate is perfectly suitable whether he works in remote or not, we don't care. Right? So this is the third important point. Strong online presence. The fourth important point is you need to have a strategic skill of cold email. See, when you talk to a fresher, when you talk to a new people, lot of people get really shy, right? What other people may think. Let me tell you one secret, guys. Nobody thinks anything. It's only you who really put that thought. Like, what if people think about me? Nobody cares. People have their own job and they have their own priorities. And you mean nobody cares about you. That's the reality. So feel free to talk to many people through emails, through network, through messages. So reaching out them is a big strategy when you wanted to really get a very good remote job. Okay, this is the fourth important skill. Fifth important skill is you need to sort relevant project. Guys, I told you, you need to build your custom resume, right? So showcase your creativity, how you can remotely achieve certain tasks, how you can remotely do a project. So when you're attending an interview, you should be open also to receive a design task asking for help. Hey, can you give me a design task where I can remotely conclude this project in one or two days and then we can have an interview, ask them for it because then people will have a clarity. Okay, this guy or this girl is really interested to take up this challenge. Why don't we give it? Chances are you will get selected because you are more enthusiastic and energetic, right? This is the fifth important skill, relevant experience, quoting and getting the design task done for that. Okay, the sixth thing is you need to show a lot of certifications and build the trust and credibility. You need to show some testimonies also. See, when it comes to testimonies and certifications, people really trust you because they already are knowing that you're a remote worker and that they are interviewing you through virtual connection, right? If possible, I would say you can go and attend interview physically first time and then you can agree for a remote job, okay? Only for interviews. You can go and build that trust. Okay, if it is not possible, maybe if it's an abroad country, you can't go, it's fine. You can show some certifications of the programs, what you completed your college degrees or maybe your best, your head of the department or your professor or principal has given you some testimony. Please quote that because people trust you based on other people trust you. I always tell in my podcast, okay? So you need to build that trust and credibility. See guys, when you're recruiting some people for your work or maybe for your maybe for your home. If you're recruiting some people to work for you, the first thing what you'll expect is the trust, right? How safe and reliable that person is. How can I trust that person will come and not take anything from my home and just work and go? Right? So if you are able to build that trust through your portfolio, through your resume, through your projects, through your communication, through your testimonies, through your certificates, it's definitely a good strategy. Okay. The seventh important strategy is you can tell your recruiter saying, I will be working more productively. As I told you, 47 percentage productivity has been reported by Pranas in 2020 statistics. Right? So you can say I can avoid travel time. You can say I can spend for my fitness, I can have a good well being, I can spend more time with my family, I can have a more time with work life balance so that I can effectively work for 10 hours where your normal employee works for eight hours. He takes one break, he takes two breaks, but my productivity will be different. Show them through your portfolio, show them through your project, ask them a design task and showcase that effectiveness. Like let's say if they give 24 hours design task, you complete the work which a Designer normally takes 30 to 40 hours. You put in that effort and showcase and bang them saying hey, see this is what I can do. I took only one hour break for this entire full day task which is for only lunch break. And I work 12 hours continuously without a break and I took only short shot 5 minutes, 5 minutes break. See, this is how I'm able to productively there. Because I avoid the time of traveling, I avoid the time of waiting in traffic, I avoid the time of rushing here and there, traveling here and there. I put everything in my office work. I practice fitness, I do meditation, I do a lot of extra book reading and knowledge building habit. I spend time with my family and then I qualitatively work for my office. You can showcase that. Guys, you know what? When you talk about well being and when you talk about work life balance, normally people really give you a chance. People really understand that you value both. It's not like you need to be workaholic. Don't do that. That's not the case. You need to be authentic, genuine and honest. Okay, so the eighth important factor is company saves lots of money by making you remotely work. Right? See, they don't have to build a space for you. They don't need to pay electricity for you. They don't need to give you food, they don't need to Give you bus allowance, travel, all this extra 11 can be cut. That can be exactly converted as a cost for you, right? So you can also tell hey, already you're saving a lot of money by making me as an employee for you. So you can quote that when it comes to recruiters. I already told you, Gartner has showed that 82% recruiters allow the people to work offline, online, hybrid model and out. Even I work in hybrid model. So the point is, if you're able to establish these kind of things, nobody cares whether you're working offline or online. So this is the eight strategies guys which you can crack this code and you can approach for different different interviews and get hired. Okay, let me quickly repeat you. The first is building custom build profile, resume, portfolio. Second is building a lot of networking and storing in that Excel sheet. If you are replying for this podcast guys, maybe I can share you my secret Excel sheet. What I give for my students. If you're really lucky, I cannot give for all the people. Maybe if you are a selected lucky person, I'll be also giving you that Excel sheet. How you can build your network very strongly so that in next 21 days itself you can get a good job by power of networking. That kind of magic things will happen. You can connect with me. The third thing is you can build strong online presence, build website and you can show some kind of online tools knowledge like Miro, Figma, Envision, Google and Microsoft. All these tools are very efficient for you. How you can effectively assign tasks, how you can effectively set up video calls, how we can manage productivity tasks like that. And the fourth thing is you need to have a skill to break that shy and talk to people in cold emailing and reaching out to them. Fifth is showcasing relevant experience and design tasks. Six is building credibility and trust using certification. Seventh is showing the well being and overall time saving what you're making and making a work life balance. And eighth is how much time and resources you're saving for that company and global, right? Because when you're not traveling for an organization for two, three years, how much fuel you are saving for this entire environment and earth, right? So you need to think guys, it's always about mutual win win benefit. If you're able to showcase this, I don't think you will have any problem in solving and getting a designed remote job. Okay? So if you find this podcast useful, please give me a best training.
