The Real Reason Why No One Cares About Your Videos

Your videos fail because they're selfish, not because of bad gear or editing. Viewers only watch if content solves their problem or entertains them. Shift to service-based content by understanding your audience through your own past struggles, experience helping others, or real conversations with ideal viewers using their exact words.

I'm sure you upgraded your mic, your camera, and you learned all these editing tricks, but your videos, they still don't hold anyone's attention. And I want you to hear me out on this. It was never the gear. Your content is boring for a reason that you haven't looked into yet, and it's the one thing that actually makes people stay. So by the end of this video, you're going to know exactly why people keep leaving, and it's going to change how you make videos after this. I'm sure you watch videos on the best gear to buy, the best editing software to edit your videos, or even creative ways on how you can better edit your videos. And you thought to yourself, man, if I would just have a better camera, if I had a better mic, if I had better editing skills, that will increase the interest level of the people watching those videos. But the reason why that's not true is because Those are not the reasons why anyone would be watching your videos. No one cares if you edit your videos like you was working on the new Marvel Doomsday movie, or if you were an intern for MrBeast. No one cares if you speaking into a lavalier mic, a DJI mic, or an R&B mic. That's not the reason why anyone would wanna watch your videos. And I know it's frustrating when you done put real money into all these upgrades and the crowd is still silent. No one cares about the videos that you're posting and they're clicking off. They're going to someone else's videos or they're going to a different platform. Every upgrade to solve this problem of increasing their interest level feels like putting a Band-Aid on a broken toe. Like, what is that going to help? For a long time, I suffered from this idea that if I would just upgrade this cheap behind mic, if I would just upgrade this, this camera that I was filming with— I started filming with the iPhone 11— if I would, if I would just get a better camera, if I would just get better at editing my videos, oh, I got them. They're going to start liking these videos. And boy, was I wrong. Not only was I wrong, but because I believed in this idea that having these upgrades would increase the interest level, my content was stagnant for a long time. No one knew who I was. So the more that you continue to believe that these upgrades will increase the interest level of your content, It's going to cost you views of the right people seeing it, which means that it's going to cost you clients. It's going to cost you opportunities. It's already costing you money, but it's also going to cost you time, time that you can't get back. So there needs to be an actual solution that's not a Band-Aid on this broken toe so that you can attract those right people who would desire to be clients of yours. Now, in order to solve the problem of to stop making your videos boring, And increase the interest level of the people who will be watching it, you actually have to know what is the reason on why your videos are boring. And it's because your videos are selfish. Now you're probably saying to yourself, hold on, wait a minute, I'm not selfish. That's not me. I'm making videos and truly trying to help people. But here's the thing, it is selfish. It's not selfish because you're doing it for your own benefit. It's selfish because you're creating content that nobody want to watch, and that's why it's boring. You're creating content based off of messaging that you feel convicted and motivated to share. You're creating content based off of what you think that other people will want to watch rather than what they actually would want to watch. You're creating content based off of intelligent inference, and that's not the reason why anyone would want to watch your video. When people come to this platform, they do it for their benefit. They're asking themselves 2 questions: is this content solving a problem I'm having, or is this content entertaining me and distracting me from a problem that I'm having? If this content is not speaking directly to them and breaking through the noise of distractions, they won't have a reason to be interested in the content that you are putting out. And you could just be putting out great videos that nobody cares about. Not only will you suffer if your videos are boring because it's not speaking to anyone, YouTube will not send it to anyone. Why? Because it's not going to keep people on this platform. YouTube has a, has a job to keep people on this platform. That's how it makes money. And your job is to partner with it to keep people on this platform based off of the videos that you're putting out. And if that video isn't serving YouTube, those people are either going to go to someone else, or even worse, they're going to go to a different platform. My father said something very profound to me a long time ago. He said that humans are inherently selfish. We do things for our benefit only. So if your video isn't serving their benefit, they won't find a reason to be interested in your videos. Like, you can't solve interest level with production value. You have to solve it with content value, giving the right people exactly what they want and serve their benefit so that they will be enticed to not only stay long enough to watch that video that you posted, but to also stay on the platform to watch more of your videos. Now, since your content is boring because you're creating selfish content, you want to refrain from creating that type of content. And move to creating what I call service-based content. Service-based content is content catered specifically for them. It breaks through the noise of distractions and it speaks to them directly. They can see themselves within that messaging. It's serving their best interests. This is the type of content that they will want to watch because humans, we naturally want to feel important. To someone else. We want to feel like other people think about us. And when someone is catering their content specifically for us, that's going to motivate us to not only watch that video, but if they really speak in our language, we're going to want to watch more of those videos. This is the type of content that not only keeps people watching your videos but gives YouTube A reason to promote more of your videos to more similar people. Now, the only way that you can start creating service-based content is to understand them truly. The only way you can understand someone's best interest, what's within their best interest, is to have an idea of who they are as a person. Like, you can't give somebody something they think they want. Imagine you go up to a restaurant. And you're a vegan, and the waiter—they—they heard what you said, but they decided to give you what they wanted to give you. They gave you a meat lover's pizza. How would you feel if they did that? Not only would you be upset with them, you're more than likely not coming back to that restaurant, and you're probably—well, it's highly likely that you ain't leaving a tip. Why? Because they didn't understand you well enough, or they didn't even listen to you. To give you what you would desire that would entice you to come back again or give them a large tip. So you have to understand your audience so they can want to come back again, maybe subscribe to your channel, watch more videos, or find out a way how they can go deeper with you because they believe that your solution will solve their problem. Now, how do you understand them better so that you can cater your videos For them? There are 3 ways. The first one is this. I used to say that you're in best position to help people who you used to be. So by recognizing who you used to be, what problems and frustrations that you dealt with, what type of challenges you had, what type of outcomes that you desired, by going back in that moment and reliving it and not just thinking about it, but staying in it. That can give you an idea of what that person who you're looking to help is, is going through and what they're feeling and what they would like to feel. That will give you the ability to articulate what it is that they're experiencing better so that you could cater your videos for them. But what if you didn't go through what your audience is going through, but you have experience helping a specific group of people? Well, you could turn that experience into content. Like, for example, let's say that you're a relationship coach and you help high-level entrepreneurs stay active in their marriages and not neglect their partners and be on the precipice of divorce. Oh, that's a whole bunch of problems, pains, and frustrations that you could talk about within their own words, not your words, but what they're experiencing. You could talk about what the outcomes that they desire to be more active in their marriage, to avoid divorce, because divorce is expensive, not just from a financial standpoint. It's also expensive from a family dynamic standpoint. Like, even if you didn't go through what your audience went through, but you've helped people, that experience and what you've helped them go from to where they want to be, all that experience is, is content. That type of content is going to be interesting to more high-level entrepreneurs. Why? Because you're articulating exactly what they're going through. They're going to trust that you can help them with their problems because you're pinpointing the exact problems that they're having, the exact pains and frustrating frustrations that they're experiencing and the outcomes that they want to experience. They're going to want to continue to watch that video that you post and more videos. And if you're really putting it into words of what they're experiencing, they will want to go deeper with you because you've positioned yourself as an authoritative figure to help them with the problem that they're dealing with. Now, the last method of understanding your audience better so that you can cater your videos for them is one of my favorites, and I, I do this often. I turn my conversations into content. When I was creating content, all the topics that I created were selfish. I was talking about depression, the fear of judgment, the fear of failure, the fear of rejection. I was talking about the law of attraction. I was just talking about all types of self-help topics. And it was frustrating that nobody cared about those topics. So what I started doing was having conversations with the ideal people who I would want to help and figure out exactly what they were dealing with and what they wanted to overcome. What pain and frustrations that they had and that they were experiencing that they wanted to be relieved from. I was figuring out what type of outcomes that they desired. And not only did I turn those ideas of what they was telling me into content, I was using their words to describe their experience within my content. Why? Because that type of content not only builds trust, but it makes it interesting because it makes people feel like I know them. I'm thinking their thoughts and I'm in their brains. The best content that I've ever created were never from the ideas that I had in my brain. The best content came from the conversations that I was having with someone else. The people that I was having conversations with, they probably thought that they was just having a mental release and getting their frustrations out, but they were actually giving me the content that I could use to go serve them, to help them, and to cater specifically One of my good friends was in his first year in college, and he's a big introvert, and it was frustrating to him that he wanted to socialize with other people, he wanted to interact with other people, but he just felt too shy to do so. He didn't know what he could do to overcome that, to have connections with others, and it was disappointing when he wanted to say something but his mouth would not let him. And just hearing him saying all this, I was like, oh boy, you just— I'm jotting all this down because I'm going to turn this into a video that I'm going to cater specifically for you. And he found that video valuable. Not only was he impressed with how I was able to articulate his feelings and his thoughts, but I also gave him a viable solution that he can use that allows him to be more sociable in different settings without compromising who he was. I had a, I had a guy from Africa reach out to me who was mentioning how he was frustrated on the fact that he kept stammering and stumbling on his words. And he was, I think he was a sales individual. He was selling something on the street and he wasn't able to make money because he couldn't speak clearly. And I'm hearing all of this and I'm writing every last bit of it down. I'm even, I'm using his exact words within the content that I'm creating. Why? Because I want to make this video interesting for him that he would not only want to watch that video throughout, but he would want to watch more of my content. I'm reminded of a quote from Zig Ziglar. He said, if you give enough people what they want, they will give you what you want. So all the outcomes that you desire to have as far as more opportunities, more clients, More subscribers, more views, all of that, all of that is the result of you giving others what they want, creating the videos specifically for them. And the only way that you can do that is by having a true understanding of who they are so that you can create the videos that they will want to watch. The next video that you put out, really ask yourself the question, is this a selfish video, a video that I wanted to share, a message that I wanted to talk about? Or is this a video that's catered specifically for my audience and exactly what they want to see? If it's the first, go ahead, delete that video and create a service-based video for your audience, because that's the type of video that they will find interesting. If you're ready to take control of your life and develop that confidence that you've always been waiting for, then these 2 videos will help with that.
