Five practical tips for introverts in difficult conversations: take time before responding, don't absorb others' pressure, assert your need to think before answering, say no first and change your mind later if needed, and stay silent instead of giving false affirmations.

Here are five tips for introverts in difficult or stressful conversations. 1. Unless someone is in imminent danger, you always have the right to think about what is being said before you respond. Take your time. 2. Remember, if someone is pressuring you for a response, it is their pressure, not yours. Let them sit with it until you are ready. 3. When you're put on the spot, you have a right not to know until you know. Remember, we take our time articulating our thoughts and often can't access this state of mind while under this sudden and imposed pressure. 4. If someone makes a request or demands an immediate response, say no. It is easier to change a no to a yes than it is to get out of something you have committed to. 5. When you feel the urge to contribute with affirming comments and statements when that's not how you really feel, remind yourself you have the right to remain silent.
