You romanticize being at a point in your life where you are on it, motivated, disciplined, getting things done, succeeding at life. But now you're a mess, you don't know where to begin, confidence at an all time low and you just can't seem to get your shit together. Yet you hold onto those memories. The good old days. The problem is those memories are based on a version of you in a different state at a different time. You create expectations of yourself that will burden you and increase the probability of failure. But why? Because you're not respecting the position you're in right now beating yourself up for not meeting these impossibly high standards given your current situation. You believe in self compassion you show none of it. Accept where you are, recognize it will be hard and you may need to start small with little return for it will give you the freedom to build what is necessary to get you out of this rut and compound your growth to new heights.
