How I help people ACTUALLY get started with their habits

James Lim walks through his five-day habit challenge launching tomorrow: complete a habit five times in seven days, tracked on a spreadsheet leaderboard with levels (20 days for level two, 50 for level three). About 15 people per cohort, and he breaks down what actually gets people to stick with it.

Hi everyone. I thought I'd give you a behind the scenes look into the community. I'm just setting up a challenge that we were working on. It's starting tomorrow. It will be the 22nd of April tomorrow and we are running a five day habit challenge here. So the idea here is for participants to get started on a habit that they've been putting off for a very long time. And we're going to run it for the next, for the next seven days and you have to complete it five times. So you can see lots of people have joined. We've had a last minute joiner here too. And what that does we then go into. I can't find my. The previous one. Let me have a look. Here it is. And we'll have a leaderboard. So here's a leaderboard. Set this little spreadsheet up. So everyone's submitted an entry form for what they're going to do for the challenge. It's all been entered into this spreadsheet and when you complete your day, it gets logged in here and we will see who makes it to the end. And when you reach the end, you get promoted to level two, which is a harder challenge, which is a 20 day challenge. So far you can see we only have, we haven't started yet. I thought I'd catch it on the night before we start. There's one more day to go. We've got 15 participants in this cohort. Should be pretty fun. We ran one a few weeks ago and, and we had a whole bunch get promoted. So they are now on level two and some have even made it to level three where I am, which is a 50 day challenge. I've been doing it to post, to work on my YouTube channel. Everyone's picking different habits too and it's all personal. So it depends on what you're, what you are finding difficult, what you really need, a bit of a kick up the backside to work on and what we do. I actually learned this from another community I was part of years ago. Let me try and find it. Okay, so we've got our 20 day challenge which is really popular. You can see 500, nearly 500 comments in here. And what you do is you ring the bell when you have completed one of your days and that Signals you get 1 point logged on your scoring. I remember thinking that's a bit of a silly idea. But it ended up being a really fun thing and it was quite, it was quite satisfying to be able to post that you are able to ring the bell. It was very Motivating. So I passed it on into this community and lots of people seem to like it. So it's very fun. We have loads of people taking part and it really gets people motivated. A lot of people. We have plenty of writers, plenty of people trying to improve their physical activity, plenty of people trying to make content. And it can be really hard when you're trying to work by yourself and no one's really pushing you. So we've created a bit of a competitive environment. Everyone's very supportive. I treat it more like a team challenge. We're looking to see how many points we can do as a team. So here you can see zero. Here are some of the past promotions. When you complete the five day challenge, you get promoted to the level two challenge, which is a 20 day challenge. Lots of people in that one. And we also have a level three challenge which is 50 day challenge which I'm part of. Elsewhere in the community you can see we have a leaderboard. There's quite a few people in this community now. It was only. We were in the single digits only a few months ago, so it's grown really nicely. We have really awesome people in here. Lots of other challenges and some training too that is not available on my YouTube channel or my other social media. And some more harsh truths. So if you've been following me on Instagram TikTok, you'll have seen that kind of content. So I go into more depth here and people will vote to call themselves out. This is quite fun. I feel called out, but I needed it. I'll start anyway. That's a little bit of a behind the scenes. We will check back in to see how people get on. So it's blank now. Zero sessions. I don't know how many are going to complete this challenge. It's a big cohort, isn't it? Fifteen people. Let's see. Place your bets. I will log back in at a future date. Maybe in a few days. We'll see how we get on and then at the end of the week, if you'd like to place a guess, do it now. How many do you think will make it to the end? I've got a number in my head. Let's see. Okay, see you at some point in the future.
