how to quickly take action on your goals when you feel stuck

James Lim walks through why you know what to do but don't do it, then gives a three-step fix: name what's blocking you (fear, doubt, overwhelm), set a concrete goal like launching a store with one product, then break it into five tiny steps you can actually start today.

You love learning. Read the books, taken the courses, watched the motivation videos. Lots of new ideas to try. But you're stuck. You haven't made the progress you want. Your head is full of tactics, but you're more stuck than ever. You can't implement the actions even though they're right in front of you. This is where I was. I sounded clever, regurgitating these tactics to people. I felt wise. I stroked my own ego. But then reality hit. I couldn't implement it on myself. I'm not moving. So in this short video I'll explain my experience, what I did, and a three step approach that will get you moving. The problem wasn't the tactics. It was the mental blocks. I didn't have the confidence to execute. No conviction in my strategy. I didn't have another strategy other than to read another book. It was all overwhelming and my brain felt foggy and I only felt more lost. It wasn't until I stepped back and designed an action plan that was dosed with appropriate actions that worked with my strengths and my weaknesses did things completely change. This was the key to unlocking the potential I knew I had. So here's three tips to get your action plan started. 1. Identify the reasons you are blocked. Is it fear of failure? Fear of judgment? Or you doubt your own abilities? Maybe you're not sure where to start or it all feels too risky. Articulating this will help you manage the feelings and aid in the later phases of your action plan when we design ways to work around them. Number two. Build your goal. Outline what it is you want to progress. This creates a target for you to aim at and keep your focus on. Be as specific as possible. That is to have an online store with at least one product or to create a YouTube channel with at least five videos. 3. Creating tiny steps. Buildings are built in stages and very incrementally. Your ideas should be treated in the same way. Work backwards to create steps to get you to your goal. A good starting point is to divide your goal into a sequence of five steps. This has enough resolution to significantly reduce the anxiety and overwhelm while not being so detailed that the exercise itself is overwhelming. After, you can break the steps down further.
