One life, one career. I was brought up to believe this but there's a problem. What if I get it wrong or I'm a poor fit? We often have good instincts. We know when something doesn't suit us. This was me. I could do my job but I was far from excelling and my character didn't match well with many aspects of my job. I knew I had potential but this wasn't allowing me to explore it. The problem was I felt committed. I couldn't change now. Surely I would go through this cycle again and again. In the meantime I was losing confidence and motivation. I was risk averse and I wasn't comfortable taking a leap of faith. But that was all I could come up with. I couldn't figure a way out of this spiral. It wasn't until I took a step back and built an action plan that would work with my risk aversion and allow me to explore some of my ideas did my life completely change.
