Easy access to knowledge has outpaced our ability to execute. Most people stay stuck in passive learning because action is uncomfortable, and that gap only widens. The fix: treat execution as a skill you can train, make concrete plans, and practice doing.

There is a widening gap between knowledge and action. And with the Internet, the ability to learn, research and acquire knowledge, or phase one, has gone exponential, making it easier than ever to know the theory of what to do. However, Phase two, the ability to execute, take action, perform and deal with the emotions that this phase brings, is drastically underdeveloped and little guidance is offered. This phase two skill is far more important because it's where your competence and confidence is actually built. Yet because it's so hard and uncomfortable, we turn back to phase one as it's so much easier passively learning from videos where we feel like we're doing work, but we are avoiding the area that needs the most attention. As we continue to avoid and distract from action, our abilities deteriorate over the years and this gap will only widen, making you feel stuck. It becomes harder and harder to escape and more tempting to remain in phase one research mode. So here's what to do. Start closing the gap by committing to working in phase two. Treat it like a muscle that must be trained through practice. Build an action plan, be strategic, leverage in your strengths and take action wherever possible.
