Your Success Club Module 2

Jane Slack-Smith teaches that focus shapes reality: most people chasing wealth repeat "I want to be wealthy," which reinforces lack instead of abundance. She uses her own brain surgery and client stories to show how shifting from victim thinking to outcome-driven visualization changes everything.

Everything that she was sharing today was happening on a number of different levels. She was quite specific about working with your own goals. I just love seeing people step into their true passion or nature and go, "I claim this and I want to leave this legacy for the world." Okay, so let's have a look at Secret 2 when we're all ready. Phil—
Did your husband paint this one too?
Yes, he did. This one is called 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.' Uh-oh.
How rude.
It's okay, I don't need validation. I'm fantastic. I keep telling him that, I just keep telling yourself that, darling. Okay, so yes, actually this is part of— so Todd painted a 'Blurred' series, and what really fascinated him with this when he painted Marilyn was the fact that there are people who are so very important in society, and at the time, at the height of who they are and what they are, they are on everyone's lips, they're so important, but time actually starts blurring, really, those memories and the importance. And what I really liked about this, and why I used this for Focus Creates Your Reality, A, it's his Blurred series, it's out of focus, right? Which is kind of funny in itself. But also, when I think about Marilyn Monroe, you know, then Norma Jean and this escaping this life that she had had, which was, you know, around going from foster home to foster home, et cetera, and how she didn't have any relationship with her father and she sought that relationship in men and subsequently, you know, was always chasing that relationship with her father. Her focus was always around trying to escape her past, which I think is really interesting because if you have a look at what the, the secret to success is here, it says your experience in life is determined by what you put your attention on. If you focus on end results, you inevitably attract what you want. If you focus too much on what you have to do to get what you want, you end up attracting your doubts fears, and beliefs. And so for me, when I think about this, the focus on end result for an empowered motivation will more than likely create it. But people tend to come from a disempowered motivation. It's where you're coming from. So when I relate this to wealth, for me, a lot of it is coming from scarcity. And we've all read The Secret. We've read, if you think it, it can become, et cetera. But what I have found, having spoken to thousands and thousands of people who are trying to create wealth in their life, you know, when they're thinking about what they want to create, a lot of them are trying to escape something. And a lot of them bring that scarcity with them. So, they'll create mantras or, you know, kind of validation, you know, statements that is, I want to be wealthy. And you know what I've learned from doing a lot of different, you know, one-on-one sessions with people when I ask them what they really want and they'll say, you know, I want to be wealthy, I want to have a million dollars in the bank. Really what your subconscious hears is, oh, I must not be wealthy, right? So I want to be wealthy, I'm not wealthy. And so That is where our starting point is. So what comes up with, you know, I'm not wealthy, what do I have to then do to become wealthy? So we're getting back into, you know, human doings, not human beings. And, you know, when I have talked to a lot of people about, you know, how, you know, when I had a renovation course, for instance, you know, what are you trying to create? And, you know, for a lot of people, it's like, I wanna create this fun house, financial abundance to leave my job because I hate my job. It's like, well, if you hate your job, you know, why do you hate your job? The, the boss is an idiot. He promised me that I was going to have all of these promotions, and I didn't get the promotions, and therefore, you know, the job's not, not what I expected. So, was anything else not expected coming up in your life? Oh, well, you know, I married this person, and you He promised me fairy lights and unicorns, and in actual fact, that wasn't really the case. All of his business ventures have failed. We're just living day to day all the time. He sold me this dream, and I expected him to deliver it, and it didn't happen. I'm like, well, okay, so what's happened in your property investing so far? Well, this real estate agent told me that this property was just like the bee's knees, and everyone wanted it, and he's the professional, They told me I was gonna make money, but this off-the-plan one-bedroom unit in the middle of nowhere, who knew no one wanted to rent it or buy it? You know, they sold me the dream. And so this focus has actually all come down to, you know, very much a pattern that's turning up in different parts of the life. How you do anything is how you do everything, right? But also, there's a lot of fundamental beliefs and conditions. You know, I have to satisfy these conditions. That we talked about beforehand. But there's also beliefs about yourself. You know, maybe I'm not worthy to have the relationship or to have the job or to have the property empire or to have the million dollars. And if I'm not worthy, I'm going to play out this time and time again. And with only my 2,000 bits of information, because I'm not aware of the 400 billion bits of information, I'm gonna put everything through the same same old operating system, the same old filters, and I then get the same results, which validate that it's, I have to work hard, it doesn't come easy, rich people must be doing something sneaky because I'm nice and I'm not getting there. And so you see how all of these things kind of thread together. And, you know, the focus is actually on, I want to escape being poor, or I want to escape not having money, or I want to escape escape, not having control of my life. I put the control in the boss, in the man, in the real estate agent, financial advisor, you name it. There is this thing that keeps coming up, and I guess when I speak to people, and particularly when I was doing the big launches with these renovation courses, and I'd speak to hundreds of people, And it just always used to amaze me. I'd talk to someone and I'd go, so, you know, what's your goal with the course? What do you want to achieve? And they're like, okay, I really wanna buy well, make money from renovation, but I know the first one I'm gonna lose money. I'm like, but why would you lose money on the first one? They're like, well, you know, it's hard, property investing, and people lose money. I'm like, but you've just bought a course that takes you through structure on how to get it right. And she said, yeah, but you know, things go wrong. And I was like, well, not if you follow the structure, it kind of works, this works for thousands. Like, yeah, but you know, then emotion comes in and you know, what if, you know, my pre-approval runs out and I have to buy something before it runs out and I'll just have to, you know, get in. And so, I'll get in, you know, to whatever's available at that time. Because everyone's buying property. So, but we all know for the first couple, you know, a lot of you're not going to make money. I was like, really? You're selling yourself that story? You've invested in a course, you're talking to someone who's done it before and taught thousands of people how to do it, and you're still thinking you're going to lose money? And I mean, what, where is that focus? And so they're kind of taking an action, but they're doing, they're in the, okay, so what do I do? I get I find a course that tells me how to do it. I read a book, I listen to a podcast, I find the expert, I disregard what the expert says, and then, you know, I find another expert, and then I take the action, I buy the thing, and guess what? Didn't work. As I told you, it's never gonna work. You know, and I look at the property investors in Australia, you know, 80% own one property. I think most of them probably went, what a good idea, we're moving house, we might just keep this one as an investment, and they inherit. That house is an investment, or they inherit a house from their family. There's not a lot of strategic investment, and I think it's from where they're coming from. Like, there's only 16,000 of us who own over 5 properties. You know, there's not that many. But when you look at it, when people are coming from the fact, well, it's okay to get the first one wrong, what are they selling themselves for their, their personal lives? Or their careers. And so I look at this focus creates reality. And for me, it really came home to me when— so 2019, end of August 2019, I was going in to have brain surgery. And I thought— and I had seen a lot of people be defined by an illness or a significant medical event. And I was just like, well, this is a, this is a shock. It's an opportunity for me to just, you know, get through this, come out the other side. It doesn't define me, but I'm not going to like just go all peace and mung beans on this and go, let's just hope that just because I get the best surgeon that he's going to get it. I'm going to take some decisive action to create the result that I want. So what is the result I want? I want to come out of brain surgery with minimal impact. It's not going to come back. The tumor's gone. It's benign. It was easy surgery, and I'm going to recover quite quickly. And I thought, well, that'd be pretty good to imagine that, but I should probably see if someone else has kind of done this before and if there's anything out there that I could use. And so about 2 weeks before surgery, always last-minute Jane Slack-Smith, I I was doing some research and I thought you should be able to visualize the end result really of what you want to create. And I was Googling, you know, imagery for post-surgeries or something, and up came this meditation. And I bought this guy's meditation, and essentially he said, you know, beautiful little meditation, little lights and fairies and everyone's feeling good. And it's like, and you know, the surgeon comes to the the area to operate on and magically the blood moves aside and the tumor or the growth is there and they cut it out and then all good blood comes back and it gets better really nicely and you recover and it's all good. And I'm like, yeah, I'm going to visualize that. So twice a day, morning and night, 20 minutes, I'm just visualizing this. I'm laying in the room ready to go in. I'm like, I've got this. Visualizing the blood moves away. And the surgeon says like, you know, it's new age surgery here. We're not going to cut open your head and try to find your pituitary gland. We're going to push a hole up through your nose and we excavate up there. All good. And that should take the ear and nose guy about an hour. And then I'll spend about, you know, 2 or 3 hours getting involved and finding the tumor and pulling it out. I'm like, okay, so it's probably a 3, 4 hour process. And, you know, he's He's— I was supposed to go in at 1 o'clock and then 2 o'clock, and it's got to 6 o'clock, and I'm saying to him, look, if you're tired, I'm happy to wait. Like, you know, I know that, you know, you guys have kind of probably been concentrating all day long, but I'm happy to wait with this. He's like, oh no, no, no, we'll go for this. And he's like, you know, it'll be 3 or 4 hours. Okay, okay. So I go in at 6 o'clock and I wake up in the recovery room and it's 7:30, and I'm like, oh. Something's gone really wrong here. I don't know what's happening. And so, and the doctor comes in, I'm still kind of high on morphine or something, and he says, that was amazing. I said, oh, what happened? He said, well, we punched up in, the blood moved away from the tumor, I pulled it out and the blood came back and we patched you up and it's done. And I'm like, oh, oh, and I said, I did that. And he's like, No, I did that. I'll tell you later. And so when I think about this, the focus creates the reality, I was completely in the endgame. I wasn't a victim. I didn't have a medical catastrophe. I had an opportunity for me to demonstrate that I could get over something, become resilient. But I also took some actions that allowed me to get to that result. He still thinks it's him, I still think it's me. But it's just an example because I talk to people all the time and I'll say to them, like, why haven't you invested so far? And they'll have all of these excuses or they'll have a health challenge or they'll have something that's come up in their life. Something always just keeps coming up in their life. And I think sometimes when we have this opportunity to focus on what we really want to create, and not just focus on it, but actually put the emotion around what that's going to feel like, and what we want that end result to be, then that is what's really gives us some direction. I guess, you know, when we think about wealth and we've written our list down of all the things that we'd like, you know, when we're wealthy and, and what that could look like, if it comes down to it, it may not be the doodads and the things. So what I'd love you to do is just pull out a pen and paper and just imagine this. Imagine that tomorrow you wake up and everyone that you love and everyone in the world is gone, and it's just you. And you've got as much power, electricity, water services that magically just keep working for as long as that you will live. And just get a sense of what it would be that you would truly love. What would life look like? Is it the big, big beachfront house, or is it the little cottage that you can have a little garden in and wander at the back? You know, is it the, you know, fancy shoes, or is it the runners that you can, you know, finally get around to doing some fitness and health and things? What is it that you would truly love? When you're ready, if anyone wants to share, love to hear your thoughts. You know, have you got a sense of where you have been focusing. Is it a disempowered, escaping something focus, or is it an empowered vision of what you really truly love? And there's no people in the world. No people in the world. Just you. Can we have animals? You can have animals. Animals. We'll let you. You let your dog in, did you? Sneaky. Okay, you can have animals, but that's it. One animal each. Okay, two. It's like the ark. Gotta be able to procreate, right? I'm not very good with rules. Anyone like to share what's coming up for them and their thoughts? Does it change your perspective? Yeah, Kim? I'm afraid to ask you this.
Were you gonna speak? I was gonna speak. Yeah, so I actually— that's interesting you said so. If everyone was gone, I wouldn't wanna live.
Wow, okay. So your life is defined by what, do you think?
My family.
Yeah.
Yeah, because I nearly lost my son 3 years ago, and yeah, he was 15 and had a terrible accident. And that night, you know, I'm having— I'm slightly struggling with feelings are not your reality because that night the only thing I wanted to do was to jump off the Gold Coast University Hospital roof. Yeah, so, you know, um Yeah, I wouldn't want to be here. Yeah. Because things are nothing without you, without the people you love and your friends. I can say right now.
So does that give you an awareness of where you're coming from with everything that you're trying to create?
Yeah, kind of a bit of certainty for family, but also about friends. And I've been talking to Grace about affordable housing, which is something that I'm really passionate about. So yeah, trying to create safety for other people or security for other people as well as myself and my family.
And it's interesting, you know, as we go through some of these secrets, what might just come to you is that, that need for security and that need to, well, if I'm not secure, I don't exist, I'm not viable, I'm dead. You know, how is that coming into your decisions about how you invest or how you live, or how you— is it a life of servitude or of service? And, you know, think about if you did do what you had wanted to do at that time, you wouldn't be here now for your son.
Exactly, exactly.
And in those moments of stress, up comes these, you know, thoughts and feelings. I don't exist if he's not here, my family's not here, what do I do? And a horrific, horrific situation, obviously. And I think about that kind of experience and how people go on if they've had these horrific tragedies. But I recently had an experience where my son's teacher, who was the head of the sports department, passed away at the age of 32, leaving a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old. Sudden heart attack. Just dead. And it upset me quite, quite deeply. But then they had to do a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the funeral, and that broke me. It completely broke me. And, you know, here's this young mum dealing with this loss, and I was just like, you know, how do, how do people overcome that that type of experience and how she will turn up for her children. So that kind of experience is something that is devastating and happens, but is something that, you know, she can create their best life as much as possible without Mr. Williams. And it was funny because I was talking to William about it and I was crying and I was just pathetic. And I was like, my thoughts and feelings aren't real, my thoughts and feelings aren't real. I'm like, fuck this for a joke. This is real. And then I said to him, okay, this is non-existing, 'cause I'm feeling deep grief here. And he's like, dude, it's grief. Of course, experience it, get on with it. I'm like, okay, you're saying that I can have thoughts and feelings? He's like, just, you're human, like, be human. And it's funny, 'cause you can take these kind of secrets and you can make them like, it's my way or the highway. And then you can just go, you know, and then there's life. We have to apply that to it. But this, that's, I mean, a dramatic story, right? But that kind of how would you exist if no one was else there and you shed everything? Then if you are coming from I wanna create that sanctuary and safety and security for my family, my friends and family, and completely engage. Maybe just be aware of how that is affecting some of the decisions that you're making. And is it from protecting you and your heart from death, or is it from truly being in that experience of serving and supporting and loving? Interesting. Sue, did you have—
I had some luck. I had old Miss People to share it with. If there were animals, I'd find them. But I'd be seeking companionship. And I had a list of all the things. Things that I might want, but they didn't really have value anymore. So I guess a little light for me is, um, how do I use what I've got for what's really important?
Yeah, same thing. I remember doing a, you know, they had a Young Leaders of my company course, and we all went off and we had to get all these questionnaires filled in from our friends and family and colleagues, and there was this young guy and he said, I've got a very young family, my family's number one, my relationship with my wife is number two, work is number three. And his wife, family, and friends all said work's number one. And he's like, I'm doing this for them. How did they not see that? And they're like, but we don't see you. And he's like, that's it, I quit. So then the company had to restructure how they did the surveys. But I was like, ooh, truth bomb. But it's interesting, you're having these kind of observations, right? So, but yeah, and I think that when we just think about this, that focus, and we're gonna get into this, and I have some experiments for us to play, is the focus and what we're really coming from, that emotion, that vision, and tapping into that rather than our thoughts and feelings or disempowered position is something that As we gain that awareness, we can just go, "Ah, there's another signpost. Now what's happening here?" She's got a very down-to-earth approach, very open with conversations, and a proven track record as well. I've spent probably the last 5 years just trying to dive into this concept. I love that movement, I love the journey, and I love the joy and the delight of those experiences.
