Your Way to Wealth (The Magicians Way) Module 5

Jane Slack-Smith explains the difference between action (direct steps toward your goal) and doing (endless activity based on perceived prerequisites). A choreographer seeking a dream home discovered the obvious action was to buy it now, not wait for imaginary prerequisites. Your limiting beliefs and misaligned focus are the real obstacles.

Everything that she was sharing today was happening on a number of different levels. She was quite specific about working with your own goals. I just love seeing people step into their true passion or nature and go, "I claim this and I want to leave this legacy for the world." There's nothing to do, just action to take. So if I just read what that says, there's nothing to do, just action to take. And Once again, I've used one of my husband's paintings here because what I love about this is that often I talk to people who are in the gutter of life, right? They are down there and they're reveling in it. They're either reveling in it because they want to bring other people down to it and this is their set point and this is where they are, or they're in it trying to get out and they're trying and trying. They're being you know, these human doings, not human beings. They do, do, do, do, do. And there's this, this kind of constant, you know, beating up against the authorities, or everyone's trying to keep me down. And there's a lot of people who are living in the gutter of life. And that's when I chose this picture, because there's someone who's just like going, what gutter? They're in the rain, but they're just stepping straight over it. And there's people who choose that direction. They have the end focus. I'm not going to be in the gutter anymore could actually be a liberating place because they're concentrating on not being in the gutter. Or it could be, I'm not going to be in the gutter anymore, and they're just in the gutter, and this is where they are, and their subconscious is just hearing, I'm in the gutter. So it's where they're coming from. They could be saying the same messages. One is going to a true vision of not being in the gutter, and the other one is, I have to escape Escape the Gutter. So when I talk about this action, and if I just read, you know, what that summary is from the book, it says, an action about taking direct steps. So action is about taking direct steps based on the obvious towards creating what you want. Doing is about fulfilling certain conditions you believe are necessary before you can get what you want. So, I had quite a famous choreographer come to one of my property investing workshops in Sydney, and quite a very famous person actually. And he then flew to Melbourne, he wanted to have a consultation with me about building a property investment portfolio so that he could then have his dream. And he was saying, like, I've been to all of these property people and there's this strategy and I could buy this and flip this and I can go to developments and I could do some subdivisions. And I don't have time to do renovation, but I have some time off between movies, so I could potentially do that. And I'm not in LA till this period and yada yada. And so he's all into, like, I'm not sure what strategy I need to take. What did I need to do to get to what I want? And I said, well, what do you want? And he said, well, I want a home in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. And I said, OK. I said, so could you have that? And he said, no, no, I have to do— I have to get the wealth to be able to get there. I said, OK, so let's do the numbers. We did the numbers and said, you can buy this many properties worth about this much. And we predict the capital growth that these areas have had over the long-term historical past. We can predict where they're going to be. And then you're going to end up with this much money that will get you to— this property. So, let's look at this property at this point in time. It's worth this much now, and we apply the historical long-term capital growth to this. It now gets you to this point in time, so you can buy it. So, you can actually buy it now. Say, no, no, no, I have to buy the properties first to get the investments. It's what people do to get to their dream home. Like, so let's just start again. You have the money now to buy this property that you want. I know, but I've spent money on thousands of, you know, property educators and wealth consultants, and they've told me how many properties. I just need to decide on the strategy. So what is it you truly want? What is the obvious action? You have the money now to buy the property you want. He's like, well, I guess I could just buy the property I want. Let's just do that. It's like, well, I don't need to do all this other stuff. Or you can do lots of things, or you could just take action towards what you want. So when I think about this, you know, in some of the conversations, like, I can— there's people out there who can sell you whatever you want. And if you don't know what you want, they'll sell you what they want to sell you, right? But if you know what you want, you don't have to do anything to get to it. There's an action that is obvious that comes up that takes you to the next step. And when I look at this, there's this kind of saying that says, are you wagging the dog? Are you doing all the activity as the tail at the back trying to wag the dog? Or is your life effortless and easy and you are just the tail and the dog's wagging you? And what this means to me and what I love about this is that A lot of people feel they have to do so many things to get what they want. And if we go back to the premise of this training and the premise that I'm working with at the moment, this is my New Year's premise, which is the universe conspires for our success and we're just the ones that get in the way of it. You know, we can either be the dog and things are taking a lot of effort and it's exhausting and we try to wag the dog. Or we can try to just be the tail and just like, "Hey, I know what I want. Let's just go with it." So these are a couple of quotes from the book again. "When you go from focusing on the process to the end result, you shift from the mechanical nature of the universe to the magical. There is always action to take, and it is always obvious. Doing is about fulfilling certain conditions you believe are necessary before you can get what you want. And remember that word believe when we did that exercise of the invincible arm before? As soon as we say do whatever you believe, you start getting into the conditions and your thoughts and your feelings of, you know, what you have to do. If you don't get what you want, you were not focused on it, because you will get whatever you focus on, and you get to choose. It's a choice. Whatever you focus on, you get. And if you're not getting what you wanted, you probably weren't focusing on it. If you're not getting the wealth or the health or the relationships in your life, then maybe you're coming from a disempowered place, which is around escaping something, or from scarcity, or, you know, coming from it from a point of view that you are not enough, or you are not powerful enough, you don't have capacity. You're not worthy. How can I prove my worth? I'll have a relationship with someone who idolizes me. But are they really idolizing me, or do they not? And then you start putting a little, little tricks in there to try to catch them out. And after a period of time, they go, I've had enough, it's too hard. You go, ah, there you go, I'm not worthy. I always knew people are going to abandon me. And you've created it. So being a creation is about creating what you love in life. And you don't have to have it your way all the time to have it. So this allows the opportunity for failure. It's not always gonna go your way. If you take action, you may not always get the direct approach. And there's this, oh God, what is it, Garth Brooks. Anyone like the country and western? I grew up in Dubbo, there's two types of music, country and western. Garth Brooks has this song called Thank God for Unanswered Prayers. It's like, I really, really— it's this song about this guy who really wanted to date this girl. And it was like, he's like, God, I will give up everything if you let this girl say yes to dating me. And at school, he didn't get dated. And he sees her years later as he's walking past with this love of his life. And he's like, oh, thank God for unanswered prayers. And I just love that concept of the fact that there may be something that you really, really love and desire, and it may not work out. And it's OK. Bring that failure on board with you, or bring that— that change of direction on board, but until you take action, until you have wind in the sails, you can't course correct the ship. It's just gonna be stagnant. If you focus on the end result and then take action, the action is less important than your focus, as the focus will influence your action. Mm, who's wagging the dog now, right? This is kind of deep. So this is kind of like, You know, if you're actually focused on what you truly want, and we talked about everyone has a heart. Your heart is your true nature, your passion, what you're trying to achieve. And we know that create, your focus creates your reality. And we know structure has integrity. You create a structure between what you really want and where you are. Wisdom or the obvious path will take, come up. The obvious path is that action, you know, and it's about taking that obvious action to the next step. So this is how all of these premises start falling together. It seems like quite a naive book story about this man's kind of, you know, wandering through life, but, you know, some of these premises, these 7 premises, these 7 secrets, actually beautifully fit together to show, on reflection in your own life, what comes up and what you need to do. It's not the secret, you don't will it and it will happen. There is action that has to be taken, but it's not doing. So has anyone got any thoughts on this, this secret, or what's coming up for them around when they think about the difference between action and doing? And here's a signpost to work out if you're in it. If it feels exhausting, you're probably doing, okay? If it's easeful and effortless Then it's probably you're creating some actions that are obvious that are directly leading you to end your approach. Do you need to buy lots of properties to get to your dream home, or shall you just get the dream home? Like, this guy was in that position. No obvious thoughts. I can see lots of thinking. Now sit with your thoughts, write some notes down. This is a book club, we're supposed to be discussing the book. I think it's the first, you know, worldwide first book club where we speak about one book for an entire day. But, you know, it's always good to be part of something new. And I think that a lot of people, you know, they're in the gutter of life. They're in the hard, they're in the effort, rather than creating what they want. They've taken that action to either get out of the gutter or not even see the gutter and just step over and go, well, what is it my true heart desire? And the observations that come up in stressful situations, your thoughts and feelings and how you try to protect your heart, you know, that's when— and, you know, depower the other person, protect your heart rather than come from your heart— that's when these things are coming up. And they're just all observation points that you can take with you to allow you to go, yeah, what's true for me? What is it that I truly want?
What's coming up for me?
What's coming up for you? Tell us.
The thought of doing is the— I can see it's my limiting belief in action. When I'm feeling stressed or trying to avoid the stress of a situation, avoid the stress of a situation, I will become a real doer and just like hammer away at things. And I could have probably done that much easier. Excuse me.
Thank you.
Thank you. So when I notice myself doing, it's a sign for me.
And when you feel— here's another, like, interesting sign. When your throat closes down, it's hard for you to talk about it. You know, there's physical observations as well. Do you want some water? Do you want more water?
No, no, I'm good, thank you.
But the thing is, when it does become exhausting, it is such an easy way to go, am I actually filling in time, or am I procrastinating, or am I delaying the fact that I don't deserve what I want, or do I not know what I want? Because a lot of people, I go into a lot of these vision calls with people, and they're like, okay, I'm here to, "Great. So what is it you want to create?" And they're like, "Well, like, didn't you hear me? Like, wealth." I was like, "Okay, so what does wealth give you?" And we have these conversations and we start with the, you know, wealth gives me this. It's like we get down to the fact that, you know, my dad pissed off when I was 6 and my mum had to bring up 5 kids and I need to always have, you know, some I need something in the background so that I can protect my family. And until I get wealthy, I don't have that. It's like, okay, so what are you doing? Are you living the dream, working 40 hours a week for 40 years to retire on 40% of your income so you can then enjoy life? Like, is that what we're doing here? Like, you're living the dream? Or are you actually going for what you want? 'Cause a lot of people do buy into that. And you know what? PAYG, do your job, get on with it. Like, absolutely no problem with that. I had one of my mentoring clients, she was an investor in solitude. And she said, I've always wanted to invest. And now that my husband's retired, he said, okay, you can do it, as long as you bring the firstborn son along and he can invest with you. You know, we're teaching him how to do it. She said, okay. And she said, so what would be the out? What do you want? And he said, I've been a bus driver all my life. They said they'd give me a pension when I finished. They did their part of the deal, I did mine. Like, I'm good. He was completely good. He entered into a contract with the bus company to drive the bus for 40 years. He did it. And at the end, they gave him a gold watch and he's, his pension, happy as. And I get that. Like, he knew exactly what he wanted and he achieved it. His wife spent 40 years going, can we invest? No, not until we have everything set up. Can we invest now? No. And she had a job and she brought up the family and brought up the grandkids. And now it's like, well, you can do it, but here's the condition for you to do it. It's not about you. It's now about helping the kid. And so we talked about that. And she got a property with the son, the money's gone, it's gone up in value, everyone's happy, they're going to buy the next property. But, so I'm not belittling people that their vision is something that I might think isn't going to save the world. But what he has done is he has created a very valuable career in life in serving and doing a job that he was good at and loved doing. To get to the end that he wanted. And now, you know, there's an opportunity for him to say, I feel like I've done my job, that contract's ended now. Now you can do what you want to do. Unfortunately, she had to wait 40 years for it. But, you know, there's people who can be very, very comfortable and in what I would think is maybe, or we might judge it as not as a grandiose, kind of activity. And that's okay. There's some people who, their grand scheme is to have a home and own it for their family. And set up the family so those kids can sit around a table every night with parents, unlike the 55% of parents that are divorced in Australia. And have a conversation and empower them so they can go on and do what they want to do. And I'm all in for that as well. Everyone has a different path. And it's not for us to judge the nature of the true goal. But it's about owning what it is and going and creating that and taking the action towards it. And for us, it's around this obvious action. So, and I love the fact, as I said, as my education business, I was trying to pull people out of the gutter and they didn't wanna come. I was spending a lot of time and energy doing and creating more things to make it easier for them, and question and answer sessions, and tutorials, and free this and that, because I was like, I gotta save you, you're in the gutter. And they're like, I bought your course, that's enough, I don't want anything else, it's in the back pocket. And so, I had to accept the fact that not everyone wants to be saved, and it's not my job to save everyone. I can give people information, I can assist them, but then they're powerful sovereign entities in themselves on their own path.
She's got a very down-to-earth approach, very open with conversations, and a proven track record as well.
I've spent probably the last 5 years just trying to dive into this concept. I love that movement, I love the journey, and I love the joy and the delight of those experiences.
