GP-Tutor - Turn Quizlet Cards into a Conversation Partner

Jay Hack demos GP-Tutor, which converts Quizlet flashcard decks into GPT-3 conversations. Paste a deck URL and the tool generates dialogues that weave in vocabulary like "interminable" and "seductive" so you practice words in context instead of memorizing them.

Hey folks, this is a quick demo of GPTutor. So the idea is a lot of people like to study vocabulary or foreign languages by looking at flashcards on a website like Quizlet. And wouldn't it be cool if instead of studying, let's say, Spanish via rote memorization, you could instead just have a conversation with somebody and they would use those words in the conversation? So it's a lot more active. And it turns out you can totally do that using large language models and GPT-3. So I'd love to show you how. All you need to do is grab a link from Quizlet of a deck that you want to study. So I'm gonna use English for this demo. You can see there's a bunch of words in here. I'll paste it in here, and then it's gonna pull in all of those words from the flashcards and start to generate a conversation with me based on those words. So you can see here it pulled in the words up top.
Do you like this dress? It's very interminable.
So use the word in an interesting way. And I would say, Yes, I think that's quite a seductive look that you have going on now.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it. I think it's embossed too. Oh really?
Do you like dresses that are embossed?
Yes, I think they're very seductive.
So you can go back and forth and just have conversations like this. This, you know, it's kind of a questionable use of this word, but we'll give it to it. So now, just to give you an idea, we can do something like, you know, Japanese. I'll go ahead and use one of these decks, and these are a bunch of vocab words up here. This means to speak, this means store, this means bread.
Nanadesu ne? Soko ni kimashou.
Do you want— let's go buy bread. Where do you want to go buy it? And I said, let's go to 7-Eleven. This is— oh, is that right? Let's go to 7. And you kind of get the point. Anyways, thanks for checking it out. Let me know if you have any feedback, and you can check this out at gptutor.jai. Thanks.
