Good morning. Up early to head over to ABC Action News Tampa Bay to film a segment on live TV on back pain in the workplace. So come along for the ride.
All right. Joining me this morning is Dr. Langmaid, and we're here to talk about a problem that all of us deal with. We're talking about back pain from, you know, whether it's like sitting over at the computer or standing too much. Thank you so much for joining us this morning.
Yeah, my pleasure. Every day I sit with people and patients that suffer from neck or back pain and really it negatively affects their quality of life. Seated for long periods of time at our job at the workplace, it can cause a tremendous amount of compression on the low back, which irritates the nerves and discs. It leads to pain and dysfunction and it's a big issue affecting millions of people.
So just bad news bears all around. So let's talk about the best way to reduce back pain. What can we do?
One simple thing is stay well hydrated. When we're well hydrated, it keeps the tissues around our spine supple and it also decreases inflammation. That's one quick tip.
I would have never thought of that. Okay, so now let's talk about. We're sitting at our desks a lot. What are some good stretches that we can do to kind of relieve our back pain a little bit?
You can start simple. One of the easiest things and we can do it together is stand up.
Alright, there we go.
When you can take a moment and stand up and then just go through a simple range of motion. Now, you don't want to go all the way to the point that it hurts. If it does, then you should seek some conservative care. And if you don't get over the hump with that, then certainly us at Laser Spine Institute are happy to chat with you.
And you were talking about. We're going to sit back down for a second. You were talking about one other stretch that you can do. We'll see if the camera can get back down to us because I'm not going to do it because I'm going to dress. But why don't you show us?
Absolutely. If you're somebody that doesn't have the opportunity to stand like we just did, then a simple stretch, and you can do this at home even before you go to work or after you get home, is simply pull those knees to the chest. So that is a great stretch for the low back. And again, just do it to the point of comfort.
Simple tips to hopefully alleviate any back pain that we've got going on. Thank you so much for joining us this pleasure. We'll be right back after a quick break.
And there you have it, A day at the ABC Action 6 News studio.
