Chiropractic Postcards- Are They Worth It?

Dr. Jeff Langmaid (Evidence Based Chiropractor) recommends using physical postcards as part of chiropractic practice marketing, arguing that three specific types—Happy Birthday, Reactivation (to reach inactive/past patients), and Holiday/New Year postcards—provide high return on investment and regular quarterly touchpoints when paired with automated email. He emphasizes that postcards should augment, not replace, online/email automation and encourages testing direct mail.

Hi, I'm Dr. Jeff Langmaid with the Evidence Based Chiropractor and today I wanted to break down the three crucial postcards that you need for your practice. If you are doing direct mailing or snail mail now, you might be saying, man, where is this guy coming from? He talks a lot about social media and online marketing. I believe that is super, super important and it is the way you can grow your practice quicker than anything else. But, but there is something to be said for the physical nature of mailing a postcard. And there are three postcard types that can get you the best return on investment and that I would recommend starting immediately if you have not already. So postcard type number one is the good old fashioned happy birthday postcard. It is great to get physical mail. Think about it yourself. If when it is your birthday, you open up the mailbox, you you see a card there, it makes you feel good. You should absolutely send this via email. Your happy birthdays, no question about that. But sending a physical postcard at somebody's birthday just has that little bit of extra umph. It's a little bit special, it's a little bit over the top in this day and age and I think it delivers very high return on investment. Postcard type number two that you should investigate is a reactivation postcard. So sending out reactivation reminders, hey, how's it going? We've been thinking of you. We haven't seen you. We care. That matters. Long tail as you start to have inactive patients, past patients that number dozens into hundreds and potentially thousands, sending a physical postcard reminder, AKA direct mail is a great way to remind people. Again, this does not take away from the fact that you should be doing this consistently and automated within your email system and have an online solution. But reinforcing that message offline can really drive the point home. A reminder that you exist for many, many people is a great opportunity for them to pick up the phone and call. If you know 80, 90% of people are leaving your practice and happy and healthy and a lot better than when they came in, then you have a plethora of raging fans of your clinic out there in your community. But don't hesitate to remind them with a physical postcard that you are there and you are ready to see them if and when they are ready. And the third postcard type that I think is a great one are your holiday postcards. And that might be Christmas, it might be New Year's, it might be Kwanzaa, it might be whatever it is to you, but around the new year is a great time to send a physical piece of mail a postcard to your audience, your past patients and let them know you are thinking of them. So in short, the three postcard types that are crucial for your offline, not your online, but your offline marketing are Happy Birthday Postcards, Reactivation postcards and Happy New Year holiday postcards. Those three will give you touch points practically every quarter with your patients right? Four quarters in a year. Three postcards and that physical nature of a postcard just does something that an email does not do. But never do any of this to the detriment or without completing your online portion of it. Your online portion through email will allow you to scale and automate far better than any physical postcard. But there is something special about getting a piece of mail in your mailbox when it's your birthday, when it's the holidays, or a reminder that you care. So those are the three postcard types that if you have not started with, I'd encourage you to do so. There are a variety of people that produce these types of postcards and there are some awesome designs out there if any of these interest you. We also have them available at the evidence based chiropractor in our shop. But I would encourage you to explore sending postcards in 2019. Test it, see what kind of return on investment you can get. I think you'll be happily surprised with the results. Sam.
