How Chiropractors Can Use YouTube to Grow a Massive Audience

Dr. Jeff Langmaid (Evidence Based Chiropractor) gives an actionable, beginner-friendly guide for chiropractors to start using video across social media. He frames five universal "commandments" for getting started, then narrows focus to two essential priorities: audio first (quiet space, project voice, use a shotgun mic for DSLRs or a lavalier for phones) and lighting second (two-point LED panels or a ring light). He demonstrates how good lighting sharpens visuals, encourages low-cost gear purchases, and closes with audience engagement prompts (comment, link sharing, subscribe).

Hey, I'm Dr. Jeff Langmaid with the Evidence Based Chiropractor. And today I want to break down how you can utilize video to get the best results across all of your social media channels. I want to break it down, make it simple, make it actionable, and give you tips to make it happen. So as you probably already know, video is the single most effective way to communicate. It is also by far the most impactful way to communicate with, online and off, for that matter, right in person. So video is where it's at. But many docs get super tripped up. And I've been there, believe me, saying, I don't know about video, I don't know if I want to do it. And what does that come down to? It comes down to the five commandments of video. And I know you probably have all five of these in your wheelhouse. Everybody thinks that they look weird, everybody thinks they sound weird. Everybody thinks that they do not have the right gear. And. And nobody knows what they should talk about. And believe me, nobody wants to get one view or zero views. These are the five universal commandments of video. And if they're a universal commandment, what does that mean? It means that you need to get over it. Everybody start somewhere. Your first video is certainly not gonna be as good as your 10th or your 100th. But getting started is by far the most important step that you can take. So let's make it easy for you to get started. The keys to creating an awesome chiropractic video are two things and two things only that you need to keep an eye on. And that is sound and lighting. And it's in order for a reason. Audio challenges with audio. Weird audio. Low audio is one of the first reasons people will click off of your video. They'll deal with lighting that's a little subpar. They'll deal with a little bit of this kind of thing going on on the video side. But if your audio is not good, people will click off. So you want to make sure you keep your sound great. How do you do that? Do your videos in a quiet space. It might not be perfect, but try to minimize that background noise. Also be sure you are speaking loud enough. You do not want to hop on video and start talking. You want to make sure that you are present with your audience and that you are projecting in a great way. And speaking of projecting, you can use a microphone, make it easy on yourself. There are shotgun microphones and there are lavalier microphones. Two examples on the screen right now. I have owned both of Them neither is better or worse. They're just different. If you are filming with a Canon, a Nikon, a DSLR camera, I'd probably suggest the shotgun microphone. It plugs right in, slides in on top. That's the black and red one you can see right there. It's less than 100 bucks. It is going to make your audio way better than having just the microphone on the camera alone. If you're shooting mostly on your phone, then you can pick up a Lavalier microphone. It plugs right in. If you're shooting like selfie style, it's probably not more than a few feet away. I'm using a cordless one right now. Yours can be corded, you can see it's less than 20 bucks to get a microphone that you can clip on. It is going to make your sound dramatically better for a low cost second. We talk about lighting, right? Make sure your lighting is good. This is a simple two point lighting setup that will make your videos look way, way better. There's a key light and a fill light. What does that mean? All it means is that you are illuminated from the front. It's the easiest way to go about it. But when you're illuminated from the front, people can see what you're about, people can see your face, people can understand what you're talking about. So don't be in a dimly lit situation. So when we talk about lighting, what are some good options for you? Here are two. Right now there are two LED panels that you can pick up. They're 30 bucks each. So you can have a full lighting rig, two point lighting rig for 60 bucks or less. They're great. They're LEDs, they're not hot. They use rechargeable batteries, super easy. And if you want to save even a few bucks below that, you can get the other thing on the screen which is a ring light. A ring light would be just one facing just towards you. Probably not as good in many cases as a two point lighting setup or a three point lighting setup. But a ring light will get the job done cheaply and easily and be super simple for you to get up and running. So what does this look like in practice? You can see it right here on one side of the screen. You will see I am illuminated. Everything looks crystal clear and sharp. That is one thing that lighting will do for you many times is it'll make your images look super clear, super sharp, which is engaging for the people who are ready to look at your videos. On the other side of the screen you can see my lighting is suffering a little bit. Things look a little orange. It just doesn't look as enticing to click on. So nice, bright lighting helps people see your face. They see you're excited about the topic and they're much more likely to become engaged with it themselves. So keep all of those tips in mind as you go through and make killer chiropractic videos for your practice so people can better understand who you are, what what you're about, and how your care can benefit them. There's no better way to do that than video, but keep those few things in mind. Maybe pick up a light or pick up a microphone. Make things easier on yourself and make your content more engaging for the people in your community. I would love to know if you've started to shoot video. Leave a link down below.
