Dr. Jeff Langmaid (Evidence Based Chiropractor) explains why sharing chiropractic research with medical doctors is an effective way to build referral relationships and fill a practice. Drawing from his experience practicing in a large multidisciplinary orthopedic group in Tampa, Florida (one of ~25 chiropractors in a medical group), he argues that clinicians in those settings make decisions based on research, so chiropractors should showcase relevant studies regularly. He promotes the Evidence Based Chiropractor’s monthly MD marketing research briefs and invites viewers to visit evidencebasedchiropractor.com to increase referrals.

Hey doc, I'm Dr. Jeff Langman with the Evidence Based Chiropractor. And today I want to talk about why marketing to MDs with research is the way to get your foot in the door building referral relationships in your community. You probably know at the Evidence Based Chiropractor, we have helped hundreds of chiropractors generate tens of thousands of referrals into their practice around the world with our systems and processes. And a lot of this starts with our second pillar, three pillars, case notes, research and meetings. Let's talk about that second pillar, research and why it is so important. And I trace this back to when I practiced in a very large multidisciplinary orthopedic group here in Tampa, Florida. This is 10, 12 years ago. I was probably one of 25 chiropractors in the world practicing in a medical group, nonetheless, the largest, most respected orthopedic group in this area. We're talking chiefs of staff at hospitals embedded within the local healthcare community and we're talking about leaders at local healthcare colleges and universities, all within this group. So they own this territory. I was fortunate enough to practice there and one of the things I picked up super early was a lot of these surgeons, a lot of these orthopedists, a lot of the sports medicine doctors were making clinical decisions based upon the research. And I said to myself, I haven't looked at chiropractic research since I graduated school. That was only because I was forced to do so well. Come to find out as I started to present the positive benefits of chiropractic care, who we can help with, the benefits they can expect and the differentiating factors of what we do compared to medications, drugs, surgery, injections and physical therapy. I started to see my referrals internally within this group start to pick up. So that was a very positive thing in my mind. I said, this is fantastic. I'm building referral relationships. My schedule is getting full and it seems as though these doctors are really respecting what I'm doing as opposed to looking down on it, just as they understand what it is that I do, which makes a lot of sense. So I thought to myself at that point, I said, I wonder if this would work if I start sharing research with other other healthcare providers in my community that are not my colleagues within this group. Probably see where this is going. It started to absolutely help me fill in any of those holes in my schedule and really build a fantastic practice in a large scale orthopedic group because I was getting referrals from other healthcare providers. That's really how I built and grew my practice. And that was built on the back of great chiropractic research. My great grandfather practiced in the 1920s and 30s. And I can tell you at that point in time, chiropractic research was hard to come by. But this year, next year, in the following years, there are such a plethora of chiropractic research, the breadth and depth of what we can lean into has never been greater. Showcasing how effective we are at treating an array of conditions, showcasing how quality of life overall improves. I can nearly guarantee, no matter what type of chiropractor you are, probably is research out there supporting it now. Nobody in your community is going to know unless you share it. And if you share it consistently over time, you'll be able to start building referral relationships. And referral relationships enable you to decrease advertising cost, decrease your stress, and fill your schedule because you're not reliant upon the latest algorithm change. This is why referral relationships, in my opinion, are the best way to build and grow a practice. Yet so many chiropractors out there are not doing it. And I'd ask you to think back over the last 30 days. How many referrals from other healthcare professionals have you got in your practice? If it's 0125, then I'm going to encourage you to head over to the evidence based chiropractor. We can help you build and grow that number with a proven system and process that's helped hundreds of chiropractors generate tens of thousands of incoming referrals. But it starts by showcasing who we are, what we do, by helping other healthcare professionals understand the benefits we can provide their patients. And there is no better medium to do that than research. So our MD marketing research briefs with the evidence based chiropractor, they come out each and every month and they're a fantastic way to stay top of mind, to build relationships, and to ultimately increase the referrals coming into your practice.
