Hi, I'm Dr. Jeff Langman with the Evidence Based Chiropractor and this is your Research Minute. Today we're going to look at a brand new study published just last month by the Irish Journal of Medical Sciences and it is titled the effect of Spinal Manipulation on Brain Neurometabolites in Chronic Non Specific Low Back Pain. This was a randomized clinical trial and essentially what the researchers looked at were individuals who received chiropractic adjustments or spinal manipulation that had chronic low back pain that had and those that received a sham or placebo treatment. What they found was those that underwent spinal manipulation or adjustments had significant decreases in their pain and significant improvements in their function five weeks after care. Additionally, they attributed this to the neuroplasticity of the brain. So These researchers took MRIs of the brain and identified how is the brain changing? How are the neurometabolites altering throughout the course of that care? And the research was very clear. Those who received spinal manipulation or adjustments did have alteration or change to those neurometabolites which tells them that there is central nervous system changes that occur. So when you deliver a chiropractic adjustment, please keep in mind it is not only about the mechanical aspects of what you do in terms of decompressing the IVF and opening up the facet joints, but. But there are. And science continues to prove that there are central nervous system changes that can occur. So this is an exciting new step of research. I'm excited to see where these papers continue to progress in the future. And this has been your weekly research minute. Hey, what's going on?
