Is Chiropractic Legitimate? You'll Be Shocked at the Answer!

Dr. Jeff Langmaid presents a short, evidence-focused defense of chiropractic care, arguing that chiropractic is legitimate based on clinical practice guidelines, research in leading journals, and inclusion within major healthcare institutions (e.g., Mayo Clinic, Duke, Harvard, Veterans Administration). He highlights benefits for neuromusculoskeletal issues and sports performance, discusses chiropractic's evolution from its origins, and outlines a three-part wellness approach (traumas/thoughts/toxins: movement, nutrition, mental aspects).

Hey, I'm Dr. Jeff Langman with the Evidence Based Chiropractor. And if you've had the question, is chiropractic legitimate? I want to take a few minutes and attempt to answer that question for you today. So I am a little bit biased because I am a chiropractor, but I know there's a lot of people out there that have had varying experiences and you probably found this video searched is chiropractic legitimate? And the answer to that, the short answer is absolutely yes. Many clinical practice guidelines, including the American College of Physicians and and many other national and international organizations, recommend the use of spinal manipulation or chiropractic adjustments for the care and treatment of many neuromusculoskeletal issues that could be neck pain, low back pain and many, many more. Additionally, we see that nearly every major professional sports team utilizes a chiropractor on its team, not necessarily for rehab, that's where they have their athletic trainers and their rehab specialists, but more for performance benefits. We, we know that movement is an absolutely critical component to sports performance as well as daily performance. So moving well segmentally, as we would say, between the joints of your spine from your extremities as well, regionally, such as your whole neck, your whole low back, your whole leg and then whole body is absolutely critical. And whole body and regional movement are built upon segmental movement. So chiropractors can help from a performance aspect. We've seen changes in cortical drive, slight increases in strength, that's short term, and a variety of other things as well. But predominantly chiropractors are helping athletes move as well as possible so they can perform their best. Now, if you are not a specific sports chiropractor, you might be helping people with pain relief, you might be helping people recover from injuries. And again, there is no question at this point in time, based upon the preponderance of literature out there from leading journals, as well as the guidelines and recommendations from most major healthcare organizations that that chiropractic is legitimate. Additionally, you can look at some of the major healthcare institutions, Mayo Clinic, Duke, Harvard, Women and Children's Hospital, you name it, that have chiropractors as a part of their healthcare team, either in clinical practice or research. So over the last two decades, we have seen a tremendous tectonic shift in chiropractic's place in mainstream healthcare. Now, if you trace things back, which often people do, they might say the original founder of chiropractic, Dee Dee Palmer, was, was a magnetic healer and that is 100% true. But just as medicine has changed from surgical theater and from bloodletting to what we see today, chiropractic has evolved as well. The core functional components of how are you moving your body, what are you fueling your body with and how are you thinking? We would say traumas, thoughts and toxins, those are stressors in our lives. And chiropractors have always been focused on that and continue to be focused on that today, which the research has shown is tremendously important. People who want to get well, that mental aspect are more likely to get well than those who don't. People who are fueling their body with the right things. High quality nutrition, eating right, absolutely critical to lowering inflammation and feeling our best. And then of course the third part, pretty obvious, which is the movement component. How are you moving your body? Are you getting enough daily exercise? Are your movement patterns have a great balance between strength and flexibility? All these things play a huge role. So if you're curious, is chiropractic legitimate? The answer overwhelmingly at this point, it shouldn't have to be asked, but it does need to be asked in many contexts and the answer is yes. Now if you'd like to learn and discover more, please feel free to search out chiropractic at all of these major healthcare institutions. Connect the Veterans Administration also has, I believe, close to 100 chiropractors practicing and working serving our veterans throughout the United States and beyond. So is chiropractic legitimate? Absolutely. Are there some chiropractors out there that might not be the best? There are, just as there are within any profession. But if you are struggling with any sort of neuromusculoskeletal issue, or you're looking for performance benefits and or you want guidance to live the highest quality life possible, chiropractor might be the right person for you.
