Chapters
Hi, I'm Dr. Jeff Langmaid. With your research minute. Does tech neck or forward head posture affect your ability to breathe? That is exactly what this research study looked at and it is titled the effect of forward head posture on Thoracic Shape and respiratory Function. So we know with the advent of tablets, smartphones, computers in our modern life, we spend a lot of time in cervical or neck hyperextension. With that forward translation, how does that ultimately affect how we breathe? The researchers here found that it does affect our ability to breathe. As a matter of fact, they found the forward head posture causes expansion of the upper thorax and contraction of the lower thorax and these changes cause decreased respiratory function. So if you are somebody that is either looking to get well, stay well, or engage in an exercise routine of any kind, which all of us should be, you're gonna wanna keep an eye on how you have your posture throughout the day. It can have a huge impact on your ability to breathe in deeply and get maximum respiratory function. So keep an eye out for tech neck, watch your posture, make sure you can breathe and exercise to your maximum capability. My name is Dr. Jeff Langmaid and I'll see you next week for another research minute.
