Jeff Langmaid explains that aging brings more nerve fibers and blood vessels into the discs of the spine, making older adults more sensitive to disc problems. This increased nerve supply means chiropractic adjustments that restore motion to the spine can be especially effective in older patients.

The blood supply to a disc inherently improves as we age because on in the annular fibers, little capillaries grow in, and when that occurs, little nerves go with it. And we become sensitized. When we are young, we can't feel our discs, quote, unquote, at all. And it's true, because we have very little nerve or blood supply to it. But as we age, the end plates grow in a little bit, and from the margins as well, let's say east to west, we do get some blood supply, and with that comes the nerve fibers. So as we experience challenges now we know about it, you might have had a challenge when you were younger, but you wouldn't have felt it or known about it. But we become very sensitive to it as we age. So you think about what we do when we're able to get motion in, when we're able to affect the central nervous system, when we are able to get, you know, motion in the disk, motion in the facets. This starts to become why what we do is so compelling and so impactful.
