Stop Overthinking — Term Limits for Your Inner Critic (1-Minute) | Day 2
6 Oct 2026 · 2 min
A one-minute exercise to manage self-critical thoughts by naming them: the Critic, the Catastrophizer, the Historian, the Pleaser. Breathe in, notice each voice without fighting it, exhale knowing you're in charge of the meeting.
There's a fire inside you you can't ignore. Stand still? Not a chance. You're a lifelong learner who's come this far. Now we're here to help you keep going further. Capella University. What can't you do? Visit capella.edu to learn more.
Welcome. I'm so glad you're here. Let's talk about the committee. You know the one. It meets inside your head, usually before your feet hit the floor, and nobody takes minutes. There's the critic who has notes on everything, the catastrophizer who's already planning your funeral because you felt a twinge, the Historian who keeps every embarrassing file, and the Pleaser who just wants to know if everyone is mad at them. Here's the thing. You never voted for most of these people. Some of them showed up when you were 7 and never left. Some sound suspiciously like a parent, a teacher, or an ex. They've been running the meeting for years, and frankly, they're terrible at it. Please take a breath in, and as you do, commit that for today you will notice who's talking. Don't fight them. Don't argue. Just name them. Oh, that's the critic. Hi, catastrophizer. Hold. And as you exhale, please note the moment you name a voice, you remember something important. You're not the committee. You're the one listening to it. You're the chair. And the chair gets to say, thank you for your input. Meeting adjourned. So take another breath in, look around that crowded conference room in your head, and exhale, remembering who's actually in charge. I'm sending you so much love. Is there someone who comes to mind that could use a little peace? Share this with them. And please subscribe to keep returning to peace in under 2 minutes a day. Thank you so much for being here with me today.
