Love addiction makes your partner your whole life, so any change triggers collapse. Healing means building a bigger pie where they're just one slice. That way you survive if things shift.

It is absolutely possible to have a new experience. And the thing that I find really interesting about love addiction is it's, it's an invisible addiction in a sense, in a lot of ways, because what it does is it's— you're basically focusing all of your time, energy, and attention on sex and love, like on a romantic partner, on a desired person, right? And that person becomes the whole pie in your life, so there's no room for much else. There isn't room for much else. Once you start doing the healing, then you're able to expand from this tunnel vision of focusing on this one person, this one thing, this one relationship, and actually expanding it out so that yes, you may have a relationship that is part of the pie. Great. But it's no longer the whole pie because when it's the whole pie, it's very dangerous because if it goes somewhere or something happens happens, you will be hurled into all of the pain that you've been running from all of these years by anesthetizing through a romantic interest, a romantic partner. Does that make sense?
