DECODE Leadership Summit - Empathy

Jesse Ferrell talks empathy and team collaboration at DECODE Leadership Summit, arguing that asking better questions and giving enables receiving. He uses audience participation and blunt language to push leaders toward action-oriented empathy rather than abstract connection.

Sam.
Really excited about this next part. We've talked a lot about evolving over the past two days and it's really been the theme where we've come over the past year. So I'm going to turn it over to Jesse. I know some of you guys, this is the first time that you're going to be hearing Jesse talk. And he just doesn't talk. He wants you guys to participate as well. So this is going to be really important. So without further ado.
Okay, let's do it.
Let's do it.
What do you know about me so far? One thing. Based on that one sneaky. But that's one tiny thing. It's not about me. This is designed because it's about you. And that's what a lot of your leaders, the middle leaders and senior leaders. Every meeting we have, we talk about what is going to be good for our team. Am I right? Snow Grove? The whole point of this is we're all in this together. When I say together, I want you to say we're better together. Together we're. Is that not true? Are we not better together? Who in the room? Midas Kathleen could independently step out and do what we can do together. We can't do it. It's too much. Am I right?
Yes.
So very powerful. I don't give a damn what you are entitled to.
Did you order the program?
I did my job. You goddamn drug. Empathy is deep. Empathy is serious. Empathy has threads. I came to tell you all the feel good fluffy stuff and easy to understand empathy. I have to tell you some meaningful, heavy, hard stuff to give you empathy. Understand? If you guys get that, please.
Yes, yes.
So the moral of the story is be connected and ask the right questions. Don't ask the questions that you think. So the law of giving.
It's understanding of myself, it's growth. Like I said, I still have layers in there. You know, there's still things that I not ready to put out to the world, but I will. And so it's just about conversation. It's about understanding. It's about developing this to write more.
How many of you grow when you're sucking down cookies and cream? How many? Raise your hand. I've grown this one. Tim.
That's good.
That's good. Tim says he's grown this way. I get that. I'm talking grown intellectually or professionally or voluntarily. You cannot grow standing at the top of a mountain. And by the way, team, we are all living the same lives. You don't have to believe me. We're just at different points on the pendulum.
I picked this particular flowchart. There's a lot small again you'll get to leave behind. But this is the first major brand campaign that we've Biggest brand campaign and beard because it is liquid fuel. I can send you scientific studies that say two beards maximizes creative product.
Let that thought in this one take you through each day. For the only things we ever really keep are the things we give away. You got to give it away to receive it. Say yes if you got that.
Yes.
But I do want to say special thank you to Jesse, so we'll give.
A little round of applause.
