Jim Katsoulis explains two things about your subconscious: it ignores negatives, so saying "don't think about X" makes you think about X, and it can't tell imagination from reality. Phrase goals positively and imagine them vividly enough that your brain treats them as real.
Chapters
Two mind blowing facts about your subconscious mind. Number one, your subconscious mind does not understand negatives. If I tell you not to think about a banana, you think about a banana. And this is a real problem when you're stating your goals in terms of what you don't want. I don't want to be poor, I don't want to be unhappy. I don't want to be overweight. Because it's focusing your subconscious mind on the exact thing that you don't want. The second thing is that your subconscious mind can't tell the difference between vivid imagination and reality. This is why you can watch a horror movie in a safe place and feel really nervous. Because your subconscious mind is experiencing the movie as if it were real. So once you understand these two things, you can use them to your advantage and you can begin thinking about your goals in terms of what you do want. I want to be rich. I want to be healthy. I want to be happy. And you can start to imagine feeling those things so that your subconscious mind begins to accept it as if it were really true.
