Being Strategic About Hunger

Jim Katsoulis argues that fighting hunger leads to failed diets. Instead, evaluate weight-loss methods by their hunger impact: whole foods and low calorie-density options keep you full while cutting calories. Real change comes from reshaping your self-identity, not willpower alone.

It. Everyone, everyone. Welcome to today's program Yourself thin podcast. Today we're talking about being strategic with your hunger. This, in my opinion, is just one of the key approaches to really get in control of your weight. I know I say this a lot, but. But this one really is important because what you have been trained to do in terms of your hunger when it comes to weight loss is you have been trained to be completely not strategic. I mean, I can't overstate this enough, and this is such a core mistake that you're probably making and have been making your entire weight loss history, is that when you want to lose weight, what you have been conditioned to think is that you need to fight against your hunger. And what that really means is that you're actively trying to be as hungry as possible. I don't know, that sounds crazy, but every time you want to lose weight, subconsciously, you think you need to be as hungry as possible so that you can lose weight as quick as you can. And this is probably strategically one of the worst decisions you're making is that you're going into your weight loss thinking you're not going to eat for 16 hours. Which on the flip side of that, here's how you do it. You look at the strategy. Think of a coin. One side of the coin is the strategy you're going to use. The other side is how it's going to impact your hunger. So let's just say we're all of a sudd going to dive into intermittent fasting, not eating for 16 hours. Well, okay, that's one side. That's the strategy of not eating for 16 hours. The other side of that, in terms of your hunger, is that you're going to be starving. By the time you get to hour 11, 12, 13, you're going to be hungry. 14, 50, you're starving. So that by the time you are eating, you're usually a bit out of control. And it's very unpleasant. Those final few hours, if you're going to count points, you're probably going to be hungry because you're going to move through your points quickly, and now you're going to be hungry. Now, I will say, out of all the methods, the point counting is one of the better ones because you're looking to what you're looking to divvy the points up across the day, which again, the flip side of that coin is your hunger is going to be more manageable throughout the day. Okay, so I will give that strategy an okay, mark. You know better than a lot of the Other things. But if we're going to do a straight restriction, I'm going to eat a thousand calories. That means, again, one side is going to eat a thousand calories, twelve hundred calories. The other side is you're going to be really hungry. Really, really hungry. And so this is the secret, in my opinion, to changing your weight long term is how can I strategically manage my hunger. And this is one of the core things we do in Program yourself. Then that makes it a lot different than dieting. Is we take into account what we're going to do strategically, how's that going to impact our hunger? Because if the strategy that we're relying on is going to make us starve and make us really hungry and stoke our hunger, then it's not a good strategy. Because how. What kind of food decisions do you make when you're really hungry? I know the kind I make and I overeat and I choose the wrong foods. When I'm really hungry, I don't give a shit. I just I want to eat. And you're probably a similar way. So what dieting has trained you to do is to think that your weight loss is really a reflection of how much can you fight against your hunger, how hungry can you get and stay there? That's probably how you think about weight loss at this point, because that's what dieting has trained us to think. But let me give you an alternative point of view that what if you managed your hunger? What if you said, I can't let myself get too hungry, I can't get too hungry, or I'm going to be out of control meetings. So I'm going to manage my hunger. I'm going to make sure that my hunger feels manageable all day long. Now, again, each and every person, it's different. Some people, they get hungry right away. Some people takes a while for me. So everyone's different. You have to figure out what works for you. But when you start paying attention to the cycles and rhythms of your hunger, when you start to notice which foods you eat satisfy you longer, which foods you eat make you feel hungry, short after, as you start to pay attention to the food you're eating in terms of your hunger, how it feels in the moment, how it feels longer term, what happens is you start building a much bigger structural plan to not only control your weight, but you can't control your weight if you don't control your eating. And you can't control your eating if you're starving. So to me, managing your hunger in a strategic way, so that it's at a comfortable level, is a foundational piece of your success. And without it, you can look at me and I've been in my goal way for 30 years. But if all of a sudden tomorrow, with all my plans and strategies and mindset stuff locked in, if tomorrow you make, I don't eat it all until I can't eat until 5 o', clock, I'm probably not going to make great decisions once I start eating. Okay, so what I'm trying to tell you is that you've been taught to think that your weight loss is really a reflection of your willpower. How much willpower can you bring in and fight against your hunger? I'm sitting here saying, cut that shit out. That does not work. Let's take that energy and instead figure out what can we eat and when so that we can move through the day at a relative comfortable level of hunger. Because when you're comfortable, it's much easier to make better decisions. And I think a lot of dieters make this mistake of thinking that they need to fight against themselves, that they need to torture themselves, that they need to be starving and still not eat. That's not the secret. That is not the answer to controlling your weight. The answer is figuring out which foods satisfy you the longest and starting to eat more of those. And I'll give you a quick. Again, I could talk about that for hours, but I'll give you a quick kind of guideline that the foods that satisfy you the longest, it's real simple, are whole natural foods. So whole natural foods, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, you know, meat, dairy, you know, all of these things have their place and are typically going to satisfy you longer. Now, the other thing we want to add with that as well is understanding calorie density. So this is again, another factor you need to understand if you have any chance at all of managing your hunger. You have got to understand calorie density, which is the amount of calories and the volume of food. So if we took a cookie and we took the same amount of apple, again, they have completely different calorie densities. The cookie's way more calorie dense. So the same volume of cookie is gonna have a lot more calories in it than the same volume of an apple. And this is why whole natural foods tend to be a real magical path to getting the weight you want, because you're getting a lot of the volume, which makes you feel satisfied and full, and it's not a lot of calories. So that's one of the magical ways to reduce your calories while you still feel satisfied and content and not hungry. All right, So I hope this helps you out. And if you want to go deeper into this whole concept, this idea, click the link in my bio. If you're on TikTok, you can click my picture up there on the top left. Go get the free hypnosis session I give you. Read the emails I send you and that'll help you out. And if you are over in Facebook land, I will put a link in the comments. You can go there and go get it. It's free. And not only do I give you the free hypnosis session, but I do also give you. Geez, what do I give you? I give you the goal weight quiz to help you figure out your goal weight. I give you the three steps to living at your goal weight training for free. I give you the PYT method report so you can see the main technique we use. You can see how to do it. I'll show you. And the other thing I give you. Oh yeah, access to Jim AI, my virtual clone. So yeah, go check that out. And if you have any questions about your weight, feel free to ask them. I am here Monday through Fridays, usually around noon Eastern, answering questions that anyone may have about their weight. So if you have any weight loss questions, feel free to ask them. Any weight loss questions are welcome so you don't have to be interested in mindset even, even if you're just struggling with, with the old intermittent fasting. Feel free to ask some questions again and program yourself. Then where are my books at? I'm organizing more and more of my office. But as I do that, it's like more of it's organized, but then the organized part, the stuff that I took out of to make it organized, is now in spot, which isn't organized. Anyways. One thing I like to show. Let me flip this over because I think I'm a big fan of frameworks. Excuse me. And program yourself. Then we use the goal weight pyramid. So I don't know if you can see that. Mindsets on the bottom, lifestyles in the middle, and then eating's on top. And so it's a much more structured approach to dealing with your weight than just a meal plan. Right. And so Red111 says, I eat when I'm bored. Yeah, I mean most people do eat when they're bored. You have to understand. Let's back it up though. It's not just bored. You probably eat when you're stressed and sad and upset. And happy and celebrating. Understand that in this culture that we live in, all of us have been exposed to tens of millions of food ads in our lives. We have been conditioned down to a cellular level how to think about food. And every single food ad is basically conditioning us to use food as our main emotional management tool. So most people rely on food to manage their emotions, at least to some degree. Okay. So it's not unusual for people. I mean, it's pretty much the rule that all of us have these situations where we get bored, we eat, we get sad, we eat, we get stressed out, we eat, and what happens is. And again, we go back to the pyramid. Because I want to show you that. I show you this all the time just to give you a sense of a more granular, deeper understanding of how to deal with your weight rather than just eat better and exercise. Right. Clearly that's not enough information. So again, when we talk about it here, we're talking about, when we talk about mindset, one section of its emotions. I don't know if you can see that there. And the emotion part's in there. Because I believe if you're going to have any chance of getting to your goal weight and living there, you're going to have to learn how to manage your emotions in a more genuine way. Which basically just means how do you deal with the shitty emotions you don't want to feel without food? And how do you deal with and feel the emotions you want to feel more of without food? Right. And once you have the answers to these questions, it becomes a lot easier because now you have better strategies to manage your weight. For most people, they don't have good strategies to manage their emotions that don't involve food. Think about it. Do you. When you get stressed out or upset or anxious or bored, what options do you got other than eating? And again, even with the boredom eating. Here's. Here's another thing about emotional eating that the. The border meeting isn't really the problem. It's a symptom of a deeper problem. And the deeper problem is that you don't have better strategies to feel entertained or stimulated than the food right now. So this goes for all of you. If you're. If you're all boredom eaters, it's almost guaranteed that part of your problem is that when you get bored, the first and only thing pretty much that pops in your head as a real option is to go and eat. You don't have other. I don't know, you probably don't have, like, I'll read A book or I'll, you know, study something. I'll go play basketball or I'll go walk around, you know, with my friends. I don't know. You know, again, everyone's got different things they like to do. But if you're a person who eats is a boredom eater, don't take this the wrong way, but you're probably a little bit of a boring person, you know. So again, and I say this to you because most boredom eaters that describe themselves that way, they think the solution and the answer is to stop eating when they're bored. But then you're just a thin, boring person. I would suggest that the real solution to being bored, being a boredom eating eater, is to do more interesting things in life that actually interest you. I hope that makes sense. I'm not trying to be a jerk here either. I genuinely believe that. And I have followed my own advice on that one, to be honest, and it's been very helpful. I have a lot of things I do now. You know, again, when I was 50 pounds heavier, I really, I used to watch TV, I would eat and I would drink. And now I do yoga, I play guitar, I read a lot. You know, my fish day, I go walking, I play basketball, you know, do a lot of activity type stuff. I got a lot of things I want to do and I think that's really helpful, you know. So I think a lot of times people overlook that because what's the answer? You're just going to sit there while you're bored and just willpower, test it. Don't eat, don't eat it. I'm bored and I'm not going to eat. I'm bored and I'm not going to eat. You know what I mean? Like, that doesn't sound like a good solution, so hope that helps. What's up, Judy? Judy says, what's your thoughts on low fat foods? As in light bread, light butter, light mayo and so on? I usually don't like low fat foods simply because they're typically not the most natural. A lot of times what's making them low fat is chemicals. They've replaced the actual flavor of the fat with chemicals that have no calories in it or fat in it. And so just now, again, there's always exceptions, but by and large I am pretty skeptical. I like whole natural foods. That's what I want. And when I see low fat, when I see no sugar, when I see things that aren't really natural, I question it. And another thing you gotta remember is very important, just as a General rule, you have to understand the concept of the halo effect because marketers use this constantly. I was laughing about this literally a day ago. My daughter was excited because Cheetos came out now with a non dyed version. They call them Cheetos naked. Okay? And you look at the bag and it's like, there's no artificial dyes, there's no this dye, there's no this coloring, there's no this. So I mean, that's great, but it's still not. You gotta watch out for it, right? Because when you read all that, that bad stuff that's not in there anymore, you tend to think, oh, it's good now. It is. It is not. It's better. Oh, maybe, maybe even. By the way, okay, again, how did they do this? How do they all of a sudden make this with no dyes? Or. I don't know. And I haven't looked into it too much, but is it any actually healthier? I, I don't know, but I don't trust it. And so that's something I've trained into myself. When I see, you know, low salt, and I know it sounds strange, right, because this all sounds like it's healthy stuff, but I'm very skeptical of healthy stuff because what they'll typically do is they'll put front and center the thing they reduced low fat, low carb, you know, again, low sugar, no sugar, whatever. But in my mind I translate into how they do that, you know, and so if it's low fat, I know they did something because I know this company wants to sell food and I know flavor and I know fat sells food. And so I know if they're going to lower the fat, they've done something else to make it addictive or, or you know, that this hyper palatable. So yeah, my general sense is I, I personally would never base my food decisions on low fat foods. Like if it said that on the COVID Now I love low fat foods. I eat a salad every day. A salad is a low fat food because there's not a lot of fat in it, you know, so, so again, don't if it says low fat on the, on the COVID be skeptical. If it doesn't have a cover on it, you're probably on a better path. I hope that makes sense. I could talk about diet foods all day long. It's a big old scam job. I hate to say it, but it just is. The halo effect is such a powerful thing. You gotta look out for that. What's up, Nancy? Nancy says I'm on day 29, I so look forward to my morning message. Yes. All right, Nancy. And I hope you're getting your message. Right. As I saw that, I was like, oh, shit, we've had email issues over the last week. Oh, my God, I'm so sorry, everyone. It's again, you know, you have, you have access to the sessions, but the messages coming in every day is a key part of it. And last week it was screwball. It's supposed to be fixed now, so if for any reason you're not getting emails in the morning, let me know. Oh, my God, So annoying. So, but I'm glad I'm going to assume you just, you love day 29, you love your morning messages. That's what most people say. It is awesome. And program yourself then. One piece of the program. One of the pieces is that every morning you get a five minute hypnosis session for eight weeks. You get a five minute session each morning because it's built to be program yourself exists in an all or something mindset. So you can be perfect with everything. But we also want to have kind of a floor that we want to raise so you're never doing nothing. And so the five minute hypnosis session is one of those things. It's one of the easier things to do consistently whether you have a good or bad day, you know, whether you're in a funk or not. Listen to a five minute session where you relax, calm down, hear good stuff is pretty easy to get kind of addicted to, you know, so that's awesome, Nancy. Keep it up. Just keeps getting better. And again, those keep going. And Nancy, remember too, that once you do, you know, you do another month and you get to the end, you can always restart it. So remember that you can restart those sessions as many times as you want. All right? Just set up a, create a support ticket and that can happen. What's up, Darlene? How's it going? Yep. So I hope everyone's doing well. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them. Yeah, see. Yeah, yeah, know Tik Tok just takes me a few minutes to go through. Everyone's saying, yeah, CH says yes. Get hobbies. Remember what you enjoy besides eating. Yes, yes, exactly right. I mean, you know, again, it's, it's like we've all lived in for so long that, you know, it's, it's hard like, like imagine you go back like a hundred years ago and then anytime before that, it's like there just wasn't. It wasn't this food. You know, food has Become its own source of entertainment. I was like, my daughter's that way. She, she, like, she is so funny. She will literally walk around the supermarket is like something she, she likes doing a lot, you know what I mean? Like, it's entertainment to her, I would say. And I get it, I, I joke, I, I get it, you know what I mean? But it's, it's just, it's a fun because that never really existed as an idea, your market, whatever, but it wasn't like it is now with the amount of options, you know what I mean, with the amount of hyper palatable addictive foods. It's its own thing. And so I think you do absolutely need to intentionally, intentionally seek out hobbies and interesting things to do. I promise you, I promise you. I literally, I add, I'll go, there'll be a little secret. This is really more for people in the program, but in this, in this goal weight blueprint, I actually added two bonus habits to the lifestyle piece. So the lifestyle section is usually 8 habits we focus on. But in this book here, I added two bonus ones and one of them is hobbies. And I have found having hobbies or things that you're interested in and you know, again, being curious about something, interested, genuinely interfacing with something, getting better at it, improving these things just are so fundamental to being a happy, healthy human being. And I think we live in a society that doesn't really teach us the things and encourage us to do the things that really make us happy and healthy. We live in a society that encourages to overeat, eat the wrong foods, you know, so again, having a hobby that you really enjoy, things you really enjoy doing, people you enjoy being around is really such a benefit, I think, you know, directly to your weight. What's up, Jane? Jane said hi. Jim slept in today. Nice. Yeah, I slept in yesterday a little bit. It was wonderful. It was wonderful. I'll tell you that. Yeah. If anyone's getting questions, feel free to ask them. And I finally feel like, I don't know, I'm welcoming February. I don't know if anyone feels this way, but I just definitely feel, I don't know, the January. I like January. It's fine though. It's fine. What's up, quirky cat? Quirky cat says hi, Jim. I managed to lose £44. So much more to go. Wonderful, wonderful job. But I'll say to you, quirky Cat, because I can already, I can already tell, I could sense it right from your comment. And I get this a lot. People that lose A significant amount of weight, really just breeze by it and then they're just always on to the next thing, you know. And I would suggest that you'll really benefit from taking a little bit of time and really internalizing the success that you've achieved. You know, I'm telling you, I know this because I, I, I listen, I've been doing this professionally for over 20 years, so I know that, that dieters, they want, they lose, they want to lose 100 pounds. They lose 45 pounds and like lost 44 pounds, but oh, I got 1600, you know what I mean? It's all, it never feels, you never get to enjoy the success you achieved. And 44 pounds ago you would have over the moon to be 44 pounds lighter. But today you sit here and you barely have internalized that feeling of success. You barely have celebrated, you barely allowed yourself to feel good about it because you're always got to whip yourself to get to the next goal, you know, so be careful of that because what happens for a lot of people is subconsciously what happens is you just start to always, it's always pain. Even when you succeed, you don't internalize any of it. You still feel bad that you haven't gotten to your goal. You know, this is why to me, I'll give you a suggestion. Take it or leave it. And again, I don't know how much weight you want to lose ultimately, right? So I know you're down £44, you say so much more to go. So I don't know what that means, but let's just say for the sake of argument that it's another £66. £56. You want to get to £100 total and you got 56 more to go. One of the things I suggest, it's two, it's a two parter. Number one is stop focusing on how much weight you want to lose. Focusing on how much weight you want to lose is really confusing to your subconscious mind, you know, and your brain is much more designed to focus on what you're going to get. And so I would change the goal from I want to lose a hundred pounds to I want to weigh X amount of pounds, whatever that goal may be, right? And you start thinking yourself that way. Because quirky cat, what I would want to start doing and what we do in the program right from day one, mindset wise, is self image. So I believe that, you know, you can change how you eat and your weight can go down. But I think ultimately the real process to limit your goal Weight is to change how you think about yourself. Now, we got to remember, 85 to 95% of dieters that get to their goal weight put the weight back on. So just losing the weight doesn't mean you're gonna keep it off, obviously. And I think the big reason why is most people that lose weight still think of themselves as overweight people. In their mind, they still think of themselves as an overweight person even if they are 44 pounds down. They don't internalize it and they don't think of themselves any different. They know they've lost weight, but they're still the same person. And we need to change that. Again, the goal here, program yourself into an inside out approach to weight loss. So instead of just looking at the scale and watching the numbers go down, we start by imagining ourselves as the person we want to be. What is your goal weight? Who do you want to be? Who's quirky cat at X amount of pounds? So you start imagining the person you want to be, not just what you're going to look like, but what you're going to be like. Who's quirky cat at her goal weight? How does she, what kind of energy levels does she have? How does she think about herself? How does she feel? What emotions does she experience? How can she move? What's her mobility like? Right. What kind of clothes does she wear? How does she feel when she goes to social events? You know, so it's like we want to get more, more the details of what it's like to be that person. We can't just say, oh, I've been doing three months and three months of keto and I'm 44 pounds down. Well, yeah, but that's not set up for long term. And dieting sets you not up for long term. Dieting is all about how can you lose the weight as quick as possible. But it's not about how can you live at your goal weight. That's why, again, program yourself then. And the whole approach I'm talking about, that's why I wrote this book, because it's about living at your goal weight, living at your goal weight, not getting to it for one day and then being out of control and not knowing what to do. It's about living at your goal weight for the rest of your life on your autopilot. And if you're going to do that, then you have to focus on how you're going to think, live and eat as a thin, healthy version of you and then get good at that. That's how you become a thin, healthy person forever. All right, but great job, quirky cat. But. So that's the first thing is start to think about what goal weight you want to be at. And the second thing is measure your success not just by pounds lost, but by percentage to your goal weight. Okay? So again, let's just go back to the idea. Let's just say you started with a hundred pound weight loss goal. Okay? And if you're 44 pounds down there, you can start saying, instead of just saying, I'm 44 pounds down, you can start saying, I'm 44% of the way to my goal. And I like that more because it gives you a context of where you're at in the process. Because what I've seen people do is I've seen people £150 they've lost and they still feel overweight. They still don't feel that success. And this is a big issue, you know, so again, great job, quirky cat. But think about some of the things I just mentioned. All he says, hey, Jim, where do I go to restart the emails? You can just open up a support ticket. So if you go to the members area, you'll see the support area. Just go in there and just say you want to restart the emails and they'll get started within 24 hours. Jane says, I try to say to myself that no food feels better than thin and healthy feels. Yeah, that's great. One little, one little nitpicky thing is, is do not try. There is no try do or do not. There is no try. So again, you know, when it gets into the subconscious, communication, language matters. You know, your subconscious mind is extremely literal. And if I tell you I tried to close the door, is that door open or closed? I succeed or did I fail? I tried to close the door. Right. It implies that the door is still open. So again, be specific with your words. Don't say you're going to try to do something, do it or don't do it. I don't like to nitpick language. Yes, I do. Yes, I do like the nitpick language. No one likes it. No one wants their language nitpicked. And I don't blame them. But it really is important because a lot of times the quality of our thoughts turns into the quality of our behavior and the quality of our behavior turns into the quality of our results. So again, getting specific about how you speak to yourself. Fundamental, Absolutely. My opinion, yes, quite contrary. Mary says February means closer to spring. I am feeling that too. I mean, especially since last year week we got this, the 100ft of snow here. But I don't know, you know, it's funny too, I was driving last night, like 5 o', clock, it was still light out. So it's getting lighter. That's starting to feel nicer. And again, I just want to come back to this message because I think it's important to hear now that, you know, if you zoom out and look at a typical year and again, we all live in different places, so everyone's got different situations. But if you live in a place like me, like New England, you know, January, you're probably not going to be as up and ready to go and happy and all the rest of it as maybe May. You know, if you like warm weather and sunshine and all this stuff, you know, it's just, it's a darker, colder, quieter month, you know, And I think we live in this culture where every month should be perfect, we should be able to be perfect every month. But when you zoom out, I mean, obviously, you know, life kind of, you know, obviously there's a spontaneous things that happen, but there's cyclical things too. And the average person that lives in New England that gets, you know, four hours less of sunlight a day in January versus June, there may be an impact from that, that, that may have an effect on you. You may be a little more down than you are in May. And so, so again, what I'm trying to say is that program yourself then is really. I love, I don't know if Baja's here. Baj always says it's so, it's so supportive. It's like a bomb to her soul. She says, because we leave some space for you to have ups and downs. You know, dieting doesn't do that. Dieting demands that you're perfect every single day. And I think it's just not realistic. I mean, of course we have ups and downs as humans and how could the weather in the four or five hours of sunlight difference not make any impact on you? You know, my eating is not as clean in January as it is in May. I'm not as motivated, I'm not as clear headed. There's just, there's more things kind of working against me. So if I put a couple pounds on in January that I don't have in May, I don't give a shit. You know, I see it as part of the process. And the reason I bring this up is because I was talking about this last week quite a bit. But you know, at the end of January I've been doing this, like I said, I've been doing this professionally for over 20 years. I certainly, I can't tell you how many times people in January come and say, oh my God, I already feel like I failed the year. I already feel like I failed. Well, why? Because you expected to finish up the holiday season where you overextended yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, financially for a lot of people, then here comes the coldest, darkest month of the year. You know what I mean? You're smack dab in the middle of winter. You know, you're post buzz from the holidays. And then diet world says, okay, this is where you're supposed to be perfect now. Well, maybe you're just not in the space to be perfect. And if you're not in the space to be perfect, that's okay, you know, you got a whole year. I don't know, it's just makes me crazy. And it's just one of those things where dieting, it's like, I can't stand dieting. It says, thank you. I followed your advice. All right. I like that. £44. Great job. Yeah, happened before. Yes. Again, if you have any other questions, feel free to ask them. Contrary says like you usually say, it's helpful to think about it as practicing new skills. Yes, agreed, agreed. And I don't think most people think of that, you know what I mean? I just can't. I don't know, like most people don't look at their weight as like a reflection of their skills, but I do. I look at your weight as a reflection of your skills. And if you're overweight and have been for a while, I don't think you've got a lot of good weight control skills. Now, I don't know if you're saying you Jim, or if you're saying, well, no, I don't know where you're at in there because I don't know if you ever think of it this way, but I don't think personally you've got a lot of these skills under your belt. Do you. Do you know how to think like a thin, healthy person, live like a thin, healthy person, eat like a thin, healthy person? Now those are vague categories, right? So let me just dive into them a little bit more. Do you know how to motivate yourself? Do you know how to stay motivated even when you're stressed or tired, not getting the results you want? Do you know how to shift the way you think about yourself, your identity, so that you don't think about yourself as an overweight, out of control person, but you think of yourself as a in control, happy, healthy person? Do you know how to manage your habits strategically, how to transform unhealthy habits into healthy ones? Do you know how to manage your emotions genuinely so you can feel what you want, deal with the shitty emotions you don't want to feel more effectively? Do you know how to think, think the nuts and bolts, the questions to ask, the words to use. Like a thin healthy person. Do you know how to maintain, and I'm not talking about just maintain your weight, I'm talking about you know, how to maintain your behavior. Do you know how to stay on track even when you're feeling stressed? You know how to get back on track when you screw up? Do you have those skills or not? Because I, if you're. You do not. I, I'm going To say you don't have those skills. If you're overweight, you. I bet you don't have these skills. And if you do, please tell me, because that's just the mindset piece, right? Then we get to the lifestyle piece. Do you have this skill? Now, before I explain this to you, this is. These are habits, okay? You. I bet you have the habit of brushing your teeth. Well, that's a skill you developed. You weren't born with it. You were practiced over and over and over again to brush your teeth at these times every single day. And now you just do it on autopilot. Okay? So you got your toothbrushing habit. You've got your toothbrushing skill that you have. But do you have. Do you have a perfect hydration? Do you have a. Do you have a great sleep habit where you're getting high quality, abundant sleep regularly? Do you know how to hydrate yourself at an optimal level naturally, automatically? Just like your tooth brushing? It just happens. Do you know how to relax more deeply? Do you know how to breathe more deeply, more fully? Do you know how to nourish your body regularly? Do you know how to move more? Do you have the skill of meditating, of expressing gratitude? Do you have any of those skills at a high level that you're doing regularly and then eating? You know, do you have structure to your reading? Do you have awareness of what you're eating? I know you think you do. Do you have the ability to optimize your food and your eating strategically? I'm gonna guess you don't have any of those skills or very few of them. If you have all those skills and you're overweight, please, please let me know that. I would be more than happy to talk to you, but I don't think you do. I have never seen that. I've never seen someone have all these skills and not be at their goal weight or close to it. I've never seen it. I've seen a lot of people have none of these skills and are overweight and are struggling and are fighting like hell to try and lose weight. By D. I've seen that, but I've never seen anyone have these skills and still not be at their weight. So I don't know. Darlene says, I like that with the program, each day doesn't have to be follow this particular module. I can pop on here for motivation. I can pull up a chapter of the book. I can listen to a hypnosis session. It all reinforces, but not rules. Yeah, absolutely. This program, again, I'VE been working on program yourself then for over 30 years. And it's built to be practical and realistic. And I think that that's life, you know what I mean? Like again, if you want to go through the book from page one to page 144 and go linearly through it, you can obviously do that, that's great. But it's built to be, you can pop into a section that you're interested in, dive into it, get some valuable stuff, pull into another thing, you know what I mean? Like again, it's all or something, you want to do it all, you want to go through everything from start to finish, all in a linear fashion. Great, go ahead. But you had that intention and then a week later you lost your job or you got really sick or you know, something, some you lost someone you love and now you can't go through it. You can't go through it perfect. Well, you can go through it a little bit. And I think having that flexibility is so important because again, the all or nothing mindset of a dieter seems so crazy to me because what in your life can you just do all or nothing perfectly, you know? Yeah, quite contrary, Mary. Can't believe I'm giving Jim AI for free. I am right now. I don't know how long it's going to last. So that, that's a, that is the one out of the five things that I don't know how I'm going to do that for because, you know, there are usage things, so we will see. But at this moment here, I'm literally giving you all access to Jim AI just to prove it. Again, I, I couldn't believe in what I'm saying more. That's why it's funny, I've been doing this for a long time and I already knew I gave more, I give more away than anyone for free. You'll never find anyone giving more away for, for free than me. I, I, if you do, let me know, let me know, then I'll give even more away because it's a, it's a real feather in my cap to be able to do that, because I'm sitting here telling you this is, this is my mission in life, is to help people get to their goal weight and stay there. And in case you don't know me, the reason why it's a mission for me is because my father died when he was 54 of a heart attack. And so to me, your weight is life and death. And the reason I give so much away and I'm here every day for you all is because I want you to live as long as you can. I want you to be here for the people that love you. And I want to have the best quality of life while you're here, you know? So I don't know. Like, my motivation's a little deeper than the average kind of weight loss person, But, yeah. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them. You're welcome. Welcome. Shell. Shell says thank you. You're really helping me. Well, good. That's what I'm here for. Yes. Charlene says, all reinforcement but not rules. Jane says, what I would like to do is to order dessert and then only have a few bites, but so far, have not been able to do it, even though I always tell myself I will. Yeah. Well, there you go, Jane. There's the perfect example of why I believe program yourself saying something and programming yourself are two totally different things. Okay? So in your mind, if you're like, oh, I'm only gonna eat one piece of dessert. I'm only one piece of dessert. But your memory banks think about dessert, and every time you imagine dessert and remember desserts that you've had, you imagine yourself eating the whole thing. That's your programming. You saying, I'm only going to eat one is. Is. You're just thinking and talking to yourself. It doesn't matter, folks. This is why your dieting never works. Your dieting is what you're saying to yourself. Your subconscious programming is what you ultimately do. And, yes, you can think what you want for a little while and override your automatic behaviors for a little while. There's no question about that. But eventually, you get distracted or bored or tired or whatever, and you no longer focus on overriding yourself, and you just go back to your natural behaviors, your programming. So saying I'm only going to have one bite of dessert and then you do it is the perfect example of the difference between thinking something and having it programmed in. And so, again, in the program, you. You would program in having one bite of dessert or a couple bites of dessert, you know, but that doesn't exist as a concept in your mind right now, Jane. So, for example, here's what. Here's. Let me put it one other way. This is what a lot of dieters do. The programming is the overweight program doing. Right. So let's just say I'm going to stick with Jane's example. Example here. So Jane, in Jane's subconscious mind, eating dessert equals eating all the dessert. Okay? They're linked together. That's what it means. I hope that makes sense. Right? Does that make sense? Right? So it's like, oh, what's. What's eating dessert? For Jane, it means eating all of it. That's the subcon. So when it's all fixed, when it's all done, I'm done. I move on the next thing. So a complete unit of behavior, a loop of behavior, is I start eating dessert. It's all gone. I'm done eating dessert. That's what eating dessert means in Jane's mind. That's her programming. Okay? So now she comes into it. She's, ah, you know what? I should only eat one bite of dessert. But what she's actually doing is she's saying, okay, I'm not gonna eat all the dessert anymore. But her programming, her experience only knows eating all the dessert. So that's what feels normal and natural. Anything else feels weird. And this comes down to something really important, is that your subconscious mind does not understand negatives. So Jane has taken it a step further than the average person. Because most people, and I know Jane did this before, Jane would say, I don't want to. I. I gotta stop eating all the dessert. I gotta stop eating all the dessert. That's how most people are gonna start because they eat all the dessert, and they say, that's it. I gotta stop eating all the dessert. Well, your subconscious mind does not understand that. It's like me saying, don't think about a banana. Don't think about a banana. Stop thinking about a banana. And the more I say it, the more you think about a banana. Right? That's what is in your mind is the image of a yellow fruit, the concept and idea of what a banana is. And the more I say, don't think about a banana, you start thinking about it more. Okay? So most dieters, that's where they start. I gotta stop overeating. I gotta stop eating ice cream. I gotta stop eating the whole pint of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. I gotta stop eating the whole pint of cookie dough. Ben and Jerry's ice cream. And the more specific I get, the more vivid it becomes in your imagination. You might feel your mouth start salivating the more you think about it. Okay? So Jane has taken one step further in the right direction, which is, okay, I want to stop eating all the dessert, and I just want to have a couple bites. Great, because now you're starting to say what you want your mind to do. So we're definitely in a step in the right direction. But how do you actually program in a much Deeper level. Well, this is the program. Yourself, then, method. Okay? This is imagining yourself eating a couple bites of food, and you would practice it, just like if you wanted to. Pratt, if you wanted to play golf and you wanted to practice your golf swing, you would read a book or take a lesson about how to do it, and then you would practice those techniques, and you would practice the first time. You'd have all the knowledge. You just took the lesson, you'd go and practice it, and you'd be shanking the ball all over the place. Because knowledge is not behavior. And so Jane has the starting point of where she wants to go, but now she's got to practice it, you know? But what Jane's saying here is almost like, well, I don't understand. I just took a golf lesson, and I'm still hitting the ball wrong. Well, yeah, you got to practice it. So what are you going to do, though? And that's the big question, because most dieters are big babies. Not you, Jane. I'm not. Not saying you out specifically, but most dieters are huge babies, and if they. I'm gonna eat better. I'm. Okay. I'm gonna only eat half a dessert. Oh, I ate the whole dessert. Oh, no. I was doing so good, too, and I. I really wanted to not only have. Well, who gives a. So what if I go and swing the golf club and hit the ball the wrong way? I don't care. I'm practicing. That's what I'm practicing for. Let me. What I do wrong now? I turn this and turn that. Okay, let me practice some more. If you have that attitude. This whole process is much different. But most dieters are very catastrophic. They'll go, okay, today's the day. It's Monday, and here you all are. I know a lot of you starting, right, because it's the first of the month. It's. It's Monday. Okay, that's it. A lot of you started the day. Okay, I'm gonna eat. Today's the day. I'm gonna eat better now and then as soon as you make a mistake. Oh, I blew it. Blew it. You didn't blow. You just got to keep practicing. It's like, if you. If you were gonna learn to play golf, like, when. When do you blow it? At what point do you blow it? You're gonna learn how to drive the ball, and you take a lesson and then you go and practice. How many drives in have you blown it? Five times, shanking it. Now you're done. 10 times. Now you're done. It's well, it's up to you. And if you keep practicing, you're never done, and you just keep getting better, you see. But again, it's the mindset that you have, and you've been. You've installed. You've had a diet mindset installed into your brain. So you think like a dieter. And dieters just are so easy to quit, you know, they just are. You know, Jane says, how do I practice it then? I mean, you know, if you're. If you're in the Spark program, I give you the. The PYT method, which is a pretty good description of it. And I think it's kind of simple, but it's basically just using your imagination. I mean, hypnosis is just activating your imagination, a strategic way. So it's imagining what you want to do in the context you want to do it in. So I don't know where you eat dessert typically, Jane, but I would imagine yourself in that situation eating the way that you want to. But it's not just eating the way you want to. That's what most dieters think. They just think, I'm going to imagine myself eating half of it. But you have to understand that your behaviors flow out of your state. A chance in hell that you're gonna eat half the dessert. Now, if you're calm and grounded, if you go and meditate for two minutes and then you come back to the dessert, your chances eating half of it have gone way up. And if you've programmed it into your mind, if you've imagined yourself doing it and you keep imagining yourself doing, you focus on. You figure out why, and you keep strategizing. You'll get to a point where you start to do it naturally and automatically. It's that simple. Like it's not simple like what they say, like, it's easy, but not simple like it's an easy concept. It's not hard. The challenge, like with everything in life, really is will you practice it long enough? You know, will you take the time to program it in? That's the real question. And I find most people will, once they understand what's going on, you know, if they're motivated enough, if this is serious enough to them, they. They will do it. But most people have no clue about this concept of practicing weight loss. The idea of practicing being a thin, healthy person, it does means nothing to a dieter because dieters think they already know everything. How many times the dieter said to me, jim, I already know what to do. I just got to get myself to do it. I Mean, you know, I'm not a violent person, but if I was, I. I'd slap that problem. What? You already know what to do. What does that mean? You know, what does that mean again? I go back to the golf club example. Like, you could read a book about how to swing a golf club, but does that mean you're gonna be able to be hitting perfect drives? Like, no. Again, knowledge and behavior, two totally separate things. But dieters think they're the same. Dieters think that just because they were given a diet, they should be able to follow them or diet. How about this one? Because, please never say this again. Dieters, sometimes they'll hear someone who lost a bunch of weight, and they'll say, oh, my God, tell me. Just tell me what you did. Tell me what to do and I'll do it. No, you won't. No, you fucking won't. How you. How dare you, dieter? How dare you say to me, just tell me what to do and I'll do it. How dare you? How many times you've been told what to do? How many times did you do it for long. You know, and no offense, I'm not throwing shade or judging you at all, but Jesus Christ, how are we going to miss the. The biggest part, the biggest challenge of weight loss for everyone? It's the same for everyone. It's not a knowledge problem of, like, what to eat. It's that you don't know how to run your mind. T pal says, I've learned a very important lesson from you. I also teach others. Don't be boring. All right. Yeah, I was just talking about that. Right. And it's just kind of true. And I know some people get real triggered and upset about that. Right? But because you want to think there's some huge emotional eating thing you got to learn. Not really. You know, look at the emotions you're dealing with because don't. And don't describe it as. I'm an emotional leader. That's so big and vague, it's pointless. Get specific. What. What emotions? What emotions trigger you to overeat typically? Is it boredom? Is it stress? Is it excitement? What is it? It's. It's. It's. You need to get the specific emotion that triggers the behavior so that you can figure. Fix it. Specifically, the solution to fix emotion, boredom. Eating versus a solution to fix stress. Eating are two totally different things. They're not gonna be the same solution when you're bored. The answer is going to be different than when you're stressed. They're. Sometimes they Might overlap, but they're different things. So you can't just say you're an emotional leader, that that means nothing. That means nothing. You're not going to get anywhere. It's too vague. You need to get specific. Right. Billy Bob says, great information. Thank you. I needed this. Well, good. That's what I'm here for. I'm literally here every. Every Monday through Friday right around noon Eastern, and things are gonna get better. I've reshuffled my whole work schedule simply because I'm shifting gears this year to bigger scale is what that means. So I've kind of pulled back a bit, even on the coaching, so that I can put that energy and time into more scalable things. And you'll all benefit from that. So. Yeah. So make sure, Billy Bob, make sure you go click the link in my bio. So if you're on TikTok, my picture up in the top left there. Right over here, go click that. And if you're over on Facebook land, The link should be in the comments. Yep. Jody and Paula. My voice. The sound went out. Come on. It's back, though. All right, good. Yeah. Jody said I must be part Italian. I don't. Is it a Greek thing? I don't know. Greek people. They must talk. They're right next to each other. There must be some overlap. I talk with my hands a lot. Definitely. That's funny. I don't know why the sound went out. Like I said, I've been having the. I got. I got. It's just. It's a thing, but whatever. So I don't know why that's happening. Everything's kind of coming back, though. I will say, like I do. I don't know. Life is so funny because I can't tell you the number of times in my life where it's like things just. There's dips. I can't explain. I was talking this last week, so I was in a technological dip. Like, like six key things in my life technologically all just started getting wonky. And it's like, how could this happen all at once? You know? But luckily I've been doing this so long that I'm used to used to it by now. And thank God it always passes, you know? And once again, it's passing and it's nice to get back to normal. But, yeah, I don't know why the sound went out. No clue. No clue. It might still be out and I'm a lot of people and dropping off there. Bob says I'll be tuning in every day. I Just found you. I will. All right. Yeah. Great. Yeah. And again, go get that stuff because I give you a free hypnosis session. I give you a bunch of cool stuff. I'm not gonna go through it right now, but I am gonna get out of here, so maybe I will go through it. That all right? And Jane says sound was fine. It has been the whole. That was. Oh, that was Paulie and Jody. All right, that's weird because I know. Well, they're both on YouTube, so maybe that was the problem. So that might be a YouTube issue. Might got a little glitch in there, but. All right, everyone have a super duper day, and we'll talk about.
