Don't Wait Till After The Holidays

Jim Katsoulis argues you don't need to wait for January to start managing your weight. Skip the all-or-nothing diet trap and pick one small thing instead: drink more water, sleep better, eat mindfully. Build from mindset first, then lifestyle, then eating habits, and measure progress by how you feel, not just the scale.

Everyone, welcome to today's program yourself, Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about don't wait until the holidays are over to start losing weight. You can start now. Now, how much weight you lose over the holidays is another subject. But don't wait. That's one of the most harmful things you can do. And to really make sense of this, you have to understand the dynamics and the difference between all or nothing and all in something thinking. And so most dieters, you're all or nothing, right? So as the holidays come up, you know, you can't be perfect. You know, you can't be all. You're gonna be able to stick to your things perfectly. Most, most people. And so you go into nothing mode. And you go through the next six, seven weeks just not thinking about what you're eating at all. And you start to establish six or seven more weeks of bad habits, of wrong mindset, of bad strategy, and potentially weight gain. So that by the time you get to January 1st, you know, you, you have all the intentions of starting and, you know, start the new year, new year, new me, all that stuff, but you don't have the ability to do it because you have been overeating, eating the wrong stuff, not taking care of yourself, right. For the last six weeks. So that's, you know, one of the paradoxes of this whole idea that we're going to wait till the new year to do it. And so what we want to start doing is being all or something where, you know, for most people, of course, your reading is not going to be perfect during the holidays. Okay, it doesn't have to be. But at the same time, even when your reading is not perfect, you can focus on the other pieces of the puzzle during that time. You can focus on drinking water, you can focus on getting some rest and some sleep. You can, you can focus on meditating or moving more or nourishing your body, eating some more fruit, whatever it may be, you can start working on those things. And what happens is six weeks from now, when January 1st comes, you know, even if you put a couple pounds on, you feel like you've been in the game. It doesn't feel like this drastic shift from nothing to all. You know, it feels like you've kind of been doing something. And so instead of having to jump from here up to here on January 1st, we're jumping from here up to here on January 1st, which is a lot easier. And on top of that, you know, when you do something over the next six weeks positive for you, you start to really impact Your mindset, you know, you start to reinforce that this is really important to me. And I don't just do it when things are easy, when things, you know, are just going my way. No matter what's going on in my life, I want to hydrate, I want to eat some apples. I want whatever it is, again, whatever your goals are, we want to start doing them because there is no good reason to wait other than you want to wait because you don't want to miss out on all the holiday fun. You see, that's why that all or nothing thing is so toxic. Because the. It gives us the alternative that we're going to eat everything in sight, not do anything to help ourselves out, or we're just going to completely, you know, or we're going to ignore it, or we're going to do everything perfectly. And when the holidays come, we're not going to do that because again, we're not going to just ignore, you know, all the fun things during the holidays most of the time. And so the alternative, again, is not to wait until January 1st, but to start doing things now that move you in that direction. And that's why I always say, like, especially these next six weeks, the holiday season to me is the perfect time to practice being something with your weight. So it's not this drastic all or nothing thing, but instead there's this middle ground that you start to become comfortable with, because I'm here to tell you, and I've been, I've lost over 50 pounds and lived in my Galway for over 30 years, that you're going to spend most of your time in that gray area, right, where again, you're not being perfect or you're not, you know, completely ignoring it, but you're kind of in this middle space. And this is why we have all our something. And so when you get this in your head, what happens is you stop getting so far off the track. That's the key thing. And Again, if you're 50% more on the track January 1st, to me, you're 50% more likely to succeed as opposed to being in a deeper hole. Okay? So again, start thinking in gradients. Start thinking in something mode where you don't have to do everything perfect, but you want to do some things that again, keep you focused, keep you motivated, keep you nudging you in the right direction. And the more you focus on these small things that maintain that is what transforms you. It's those things that are going to be here next year at this time that have really lifted you up to the level you want to be at. So if you want some support with this whole process, click the link in my bio or go to program yourself then.com and you can go get a free hypnosis session that I made for you. There's a training I made for. I got a bunch of other free stuff coming your way as well.
So. Yeah. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. And let me, I'm going to put the. I always mean to do this for you Facebook. Let me put the link.
So if you want, I suggest you do it. I one thing that is coming down January 1st to January 5th, I will be giving away my new book for free at Amazon. So again, if you get on my list, I will remind you of that and you'll be sure to get the book. Otherwise you might forget and you gotta pay for it. So again, go sign up there so you can get that book for free. And then again you get the hypnosis session right away. And that's a great session to listen to during the holidays. Talk about a something strategy. Again, if you're more relaxed and calm as you go through the holidays, it's almost guaranteed that you'll make better food choices. Not perfect ones, but better ones. And in a lot of ways that's even more important.
So cav, flip, flop, sand, wildflowers. Cav, flip flop. Love this topic and all or something. Not all or nothing. I can do that. Exactly. I can do that. Right? And that's exactly why I say it. That's what we need to do in order to succeed with weight. We got to change it from oh my God, I don't want to do that to I can do that. I got, hey, that's not so bad. Right? That's the fundamental kind of subconscious emotion shift we're looking to create. If you are absolutely like terrified of a diet and starting it and you're just like, oh God, I don't wanna, I don't even want to think about that. Right? If that's what you're thinking in your head about your weight loss plan, that's the wrong plan. I here to tell you because if your weight loss plan requires you to have 10 out of 10 motivation and focus and, you know, control, you're never going to stick with it because you're never going to be able to maintain that level of motivation and control long term. And so the answer is not to imagine that someday you'll magically be able to be perfect. It's instead to start being more honest and strategic and find things that are like, oh, I could do that. Yeah, okay. Yeah, I could do that. I could drink some more water. Yeah, I could go for a walk around the block. I could do that. You know, and as you start.
As you build your plan around those types of things, again, just absolutely transformative. Because foundationally, it doesn't feel so overwhelming. You know, I, I say this all the time and I just think, you know, dieters have just gotten trained and conditioned to just assume that weight loss is this stressful, miserable, horrible thing you got to do. And I'm here to tell you it does not have to be at all. I sit here in front of you as someone who's dropped over 50 pounds and kept it off for over 30 years, and I love it. I love what I do, I love how I think, how I live, how I eat. And so it's not a miserable thing for me, which I think is the reason why I maintain. And I think a lot of dieters never even consider that as a possibility. Right. It's not something, it doesn't even exist in your mind that there could be a way to manage your weight that would be relatively comfortable that you could do instead. Every time you think about weight loss, it's like instant, you know, freaking out, you know. And again, technically, we call that a sympathetic nervous system activation. Your fight, flight or freeze mode gets triggered. You'll notice this if you've been struggling with your weight for decades, as most people kind of have. If you've been struggling weight for decades, you have focused on it and failed so many times that now just thinking about your weight causes you stress. It puts you into this frazzled mode where you're in this sympathetic activated state. Fight, flight, or freeze mode. That's not a mode that is conducive for high level thinking. Right? You know that, right? What leads to high level thinking is being more calm, grounded, centered, focused, quiet. Right? I mean, like, we know this.
So again, this is one of the tricks the diets have done to you. The dieting industry, folks, is just a branch of the food processing industry. The diet industry is not there to help you live at your goal weight. I can promise you that all the big diets you're referencing in your life to lose weight are all owned by big food companies or a Trojan horse for shitty messages. And if you don't believe me, Weight Watchers was owned by Heinz. Jenny Craig was owned by Nestle Atkins Food Products, owned by the same company owns Onyez Pretzels and Cinnabon Slim Fast, owned by the same company, owns Ben and Jerry's ice cream. These weight loss companies do not the very last thing in the world. They want you to stop eating machine food into living your goal weight for the rest of your life. That's not how business works. Instead what they do is they get you when you want to lose weight, then fill your head with a bunch of ideas that don't work and half baked concepts. And then you here 20 years later trying to lose weight are sitting there blaming yourself for not being able to do it. When in reality the problem is that you've never learned the right stuff. Again, program yourself in just an example. One piece of the program is the goal weight pyramid, right? This is what I'm holding here is the goal weight blueprint, right? So this is your roadmap to get to your goal weight, but it's broken down into these three categories. Mindset, lifestyle, eating. When's the last time you broke your weight loss down into mindset, lifestyle and eating? And another other 50% of the program is how to run your own mind. It give you a 60 second mental rehearsal technique used to program yourself. Put those two things together with support and you get magic. But you, you most likely have never done anything like this, right? And so my main message here is that stop blaming yourself because you're blaming yourself because you are saying I don't have the willpower, I don't have the self control and you're blaming yourself and beating yourself up for it. When I believe the reality is that you've never learned how to truly run your own mind. You've never learned how to influence your mindset strategically, how to influence your lifestyle so it supports you and how to change your reading in a way that actually resonates with you and works for you long term. And I think instead what you get is you get these diet plans that are so intense and so extreme that you're able to follow them for a couple days, maybe a couple weeks, sometimes a couple months, and then you can't keep it up, you know. So I think the real secret to transformation weight wise is to start questioning what you think you need to do in order to lose weight and realize there's a lot more options and flexibility that you have. You probably have been realizing. So. But yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Any weight loss questions are welcome.
I know a lot of people like to ask protein questions. I, I'm not a nutritionist. I had someone yesterday ask me some protein question that came in after I got off the call here, but. No, it doesn't matter. But. But anyways. Yeah. Any questions you may have, feel free to ask them. Whether there's motivation. Yeah. Any of that stuff Lucy says, took your advice and started slowly in small changes. I've lost £4. Great job, Lucy. Okay, now this is the perfect example for me to remind you of this that I would suggest and program yourself then. We don't just measure our success by weight loss, okay? Because weight loss is fine. That's half the equation. It's only half of it. You've got to understand that you can't just measure your diet, your weight loss plan, just by how much weight you lose. I know that sounds strange hearing that, but hear me out. Because if we only look at just the weight side of it, that is how you drive yourself insane. Because just focusing on how fast you can lose the weight gets you obsessed with extreme things. So what we do is we look at the weight loss. Absolutely. That's half the equation. But the other half of the equation is just as important. It is, how do I feel with what I'm doing to lose the weight? So for Lucy here, took your advice and started slowly in small changes. I'm down £4. So all weight loss is not created equal. So we get someone who lost £4 by eating one meal a day and they're stressed out and they're kind of, oh, I don't want to do this. And then the weekend's coming up, I gotta eat one meal a day, and they're kind of freaking out that £4 is not the same as Lucy's £4. Does that make sense? You've gotta. If you understand this, I think this is the core of truly mastering your weight, is to understand that all weight loss is not created equal. Four pounds is not just four pounds. Four pounds on Omad. One meal a day versus four pounds. Making small, comfortable changes are two totally different weight losses. Does that make sense? Because if it's all uncomfortable, you can keep it up. So now Lucy's not freaking out. She believes because it was small, simple changes, she now has a complete different mindset. She looks to the future. This isn't that hard. Back to what, what Cab. Cab Flip just said. I can, I can do this. What? This £4. I. I just did a little, little changes here, a little change there. I'm down four pounds. That's pretty comfortable. I can do this. You see what I mean? This is what I'm talking about, Right? So now we got two totally different People mentioning their things, they completely match together. I can do this. Small, comfortable changes, create that kind of feeling. So we can't just look at the weight loss. We've got to look at how we feel creating the weight loss, too. And once you start doing that, that's the magic. Because now you will focus on and find the strategies that you can do that are comfortable and that will become part of your criteria. You'll look at these crazy diets, the, the carnivore, the keto, the one meal a day, you know, well, you'll look at those and you'll say, yeah, I might be able to lose weight, but, oh, it's. It's challenge difficult. It's too hard. I don't like it. Quality life was. And you'll say, I'm not going to do that. That's when you're free. That's when you're free. Because that's why Mindset, you know, Listen, when I show you the goal weight pyramid, right. Notice what's on the bottom. Mindset. Your mindset is the, the foundational piece of all of this. And when you start demanding only accepting strategies that are relatively comfortable for you, your whole mindset begins to shift. It's so. It's so dramatic, you know, and so if you can start to look at this that way, that's wonderful. So great job, Lucy. And so some of the specific things Lucy's doing says, I'm stopping when I'm full. Ask myself, I really want something, and it's just dropped off. Yeah, this is what I'm trying to tell you. This is what I try and tell all you folks. Right? Again, I'm. My weight loss was relatively easy. I say relatively. I mean, no change is easy, you know, I mean, anything, it's the easiest thing is just keep doing what we're doing. That's always the easiest thing. But if you're doing what you're doing, you're not happy with the results. The next best thing is to, okay, let me make some comfortable changes. Me, I always say I never push myself more than like 10%, you know, and most people, they start their diet, first day, they're cutting 50% of their calories out. That's intense, you know, So I just want to push myself a little bit more than the norm because I know that's going to be more sustainable. So, Lucy, that's so wonderful and I love it. Yeah. Stopping when I'm full, ask myself, I really want something. Those are great strategies that again, those are. And those are such good Examples too program yourself. Then it's really inside out transformation. That's what, that's how it's different, right? Dieting is an outside in transformation, right? Because when you diet, you think you're going to change your behavior, you're going to lose weight and you're going to become a different person. You're going to kind of be a different version of yourself. I believe you become a different version of yourself by changing how you think about things. Then that changes your behavior and then your weight changes, you see? So it's literally the opposite, it's going the opposite direction than dieting. And it starts right with what you think about yourself, what you think about food, what you think about your behaviors. And as you start to change that and you focus on changing it in ways that are sustainable and comfortable, again, it's, it's absolutely transformative. It really is. So great job, Lucy. Keep that up. And that's the path you want to keep following. And cat flip, you're welcome for the tips. Yes, that's what I'm here for. So if you have any questions, feel free to ask them again. I can almost guarantee you if you have any weight loss questions, at the very least I'll be able to give you a different point of view on it. I. That I'm pretty confident with. I've been doing this for over 30 years personally and over 20 years professionally. So I've done over 6,000 private weight loss sessions. I have thought about your weight probably more than anyone on the planet, but definitely up there. So again, I kind of a different take on things. And so if you're feeling stuck with your weight, which you probably are, now's your chance to ask.
A question. Maybe I can help you, help you out. Christy says, I'm now reminding myself how it will make me feel if I eat something unhealthy and pass on it. Yes, Christy, that's another strategy we use in program yourself then, which is to focus on the consequence. Right. There's always three phases of eating. Anticipation, consumption, and consequence. Our entire lives, we've been focused and fixated through marketing on the anticipation and consumption. Every single food ad is focusing on anticipation and consumption, never on the consequence. So as you start focusing on the consequence, things magically start changing in you. And I'm not talking about the consequence of gaining weight. That's too far in the future to really have any meaningful impact in the moment of decision. I'm talking about the consequence that follows 6 seconds after the last bite.
6 seconds after you take that Last bite of food. That's when the consequence phase starts. And I'm not even talking about the physical consequence. Primarily, yeah, you may feel full, but you probably don't because most people that overeat have built up a tolerance. So, you know, you overeat and you feel like. But you don't even realize you feel like. Because you felt like for so long. That just feels normal now. Okay, so it's important that.
It's important that you.
Distracted there. I was I gonna say. Yeah, that you focus on consequence of mental and emotional. So six seconds after you finish eating, right? Six seconds. Are you finishing the. The junk food, the processed food, whatever it may be?
How do you. What are you saying to yourself, right? Is it positive self talk? Are you feeling proud of yourself? Right? Are you saying, oh, great job, nice job, you did it again. Good work, or you saying mean things to yourself? Are you putting yourself down? Do you saying things that make you feel worse about yourself? Right? And then emotionally, what are you feeling? Are you feeling light, happy, optimistic after you eat that food, or do you feel down, depressed, heavy? Right. And so the answer is obvious. We start paying attention to that. Your decisions change because our naturally avoid pain. And a lot of times these foods that we think are so pleasurable in reality are causing us a lot of problems and a lot of pain. All right.
But that sounds great. That's great, Christy. Keep that up.
Wow, I'm so free. Says, I'm currently eating at 1800 calories. Would it be possible to up those calories if I weight train? I heard someone say weight training is the only way to burn fat. No, that's absolutely not true. You do not need to weight train to burn fat. Okay? You need to reduce your calorie. You need to create a calorie deficit. And so there's lots of ways to do that. Working out is not one of them for most people. So, again, I don't know what your level of activity is at the moment, but I, again, now I. I love exercise. I'll make that clear. Some people say, you know, you should talk about exercising more. I think exercising is great. I'm not an exercise expert. I have lost my weight and maintained my weight loss with no exercising. I just want to make that crystal clear. Is that the healthiest thing? No, it's healthier to exercise a lot. I'll admit that. But I didn't want to exercise a lot. What do you want? Okay. Everyone's got their path they're going to take. So, you know, my path to managing Your weight is really driven through your mindset and your eating primarily. Now, of course, if you want to exercise and do that stuff, you can do that as well. Everyone's got to choose their own path. But I do think that.
I do think that most people make the mistake of trying to exercise too hard when they want to lose weight. And so here's my point to you, is that if you've never done any weight training and you're going to start, what's going to happen is it's going to take a lot of energy for you to do that. It's going to take the mental energy to get yourself to do it and to learn how to do it. It's going to take the physical energy to do it, to lift the weights and then to recover from them. And then there's going to be the effect it has on your mindset. And one of the big effects it's going to have is the licensing effect, where all of a sudden you start working out and you think to yourself, oh my God, I burned 500 calories. I can have that 200 calorie muffin. When in reality you burn 200 calories and the muffin was 500 calories. So that happens all the time. It's called the licensing effect. It's fascinating. So again, I think exercise is great for a lot of reasons, but not for weight loss for most people. Okay. Now again, my people are people that probably haven't exercised in 10, 20 years. So if you're already someone who exercises, I'm not speaking to you, I'm speaking to my typical client. And my typical client hasn't really worked out much. So I don't think the thing to start off with is to start jumping into some deep, hard exercise program. I think that's the kiss of death. I think you're better off dedicating that energy to changing your mindset, your lifestyle and your eating in a comfortable way. And you can slowly start to crank up the exercise and all the rest of it, you know, as it works in. But I don't see it as a great first start for weight loss for most people again, but everyone's different, so you know that that's my thoughts on weight training. I think for most people, they're going to start weight training and it's, it's not going to help them because a, they're not going to be able to get themselves to do it. It's hard to start weight training and most people start too fast, start too hard, hurt themselves or get sick of it real fast and don't lose any weight anyways because they start eating more, because they're hungrier. So me personally and what I did and what I tend to advise more often than not you is start with changing your reading, make it as simple and easy as possible. And starting weight training is not simple and easy. Okay, so there we go. I hope that helps you out.
Yeah. Well, says yes. I've been making changes in my diet. I've been feeling better. Yeah, that's great. And again, like I said, if you want to weight train, fine. But the, the core of it, right, there's a, there's a saying in, in exercising as well, that you can't out train a bad diet. So at the end of the day, your diet is the number one factor controlling your weight. So if you want to start exercising, that's fine, but you got to have a sense of where your reading is at. And if your reading starts getting a little sloppy or it's hard to get your reading going and you're exercising a lot, you might want to pull back from the exercise a little bit and really get. Dial the eating in first, you know. Now get in a perfect world. Oh, yeah. In a perfect world, you're going to fix your eating and you're going to. We train all the time. You're going to do cardio and you're going to walk 10,000 steps and you drink your water, you're going to do everything perfect. So in a perfect world, you're going to do everything perfect. In the real world, you're not going to do everything perfect because you're going to get tired, you're going to get sick, you're going to get bored, you're going to get sore, you're going to get hurt, whatever. So there's real life in, you know, the fairy tale. And we got to be careful not to get caught up in the fairy tale. We're just a totally different person tomorrow because it's Monday, So hope that makes sense.
Vet says I have to get in a calorie deficit. I only lost 3 pounds in 12 weeks. Lost 6 inches. Body changes not to scale. Yeah, great job of it. Yeah. Again, you know, I think that's a great idea too. I think measuring yourself in multiple ways is a very smart strategy. I think that's a great strategy because what happens is, yeah, I see that so often that the weight doesn't necessarily change, but the inches and shape changes. And so I think that's a great strategy. And if you want to lose weight Though, you know, you can, you know, move forward towards that, but at least you know that you're getting some results, you know, and that would make you feel better.
Tiny says I get a few kilos down and then give up. Do you have any tips for me to be able to continue? I keep losing and gaining the same three kilos. No, you do not keep gaining and losing the same three kilos. You got to think of this differently, Tanya, okay? You're not gaining and losing the same three kilos. You're cutting your calories down in a way that's unsustainable, and then you're bringing the calories back up to where they normally are. So you have to understand that. That the weight loss is an effect. Cause and effect, okay? The weight loss is an effect. You don't gain weight or lose weight. Technically. No, you don't. No, you don't. You eat more, you eat less, and that turns into weight gain, weight loss. So that's the same thing, Jim. No, it's not, because they're two separate phases.
Very literal. Your subconscious mind is extremely literal. And I know you could tell, I gained weight, I lost weight. I know you know what that means in a sense, but it's actually confusing to your mind because you didn't gain or lose three kilos. You reduce calories and you drop three kilos, and then you eat more and you put three kilos back on. So you need to focus on the part that you're in control of, and that's the eating part of it, not the weight part of it. Right, because you reduce your calories through time and some magical process that you're not even aware of, your weight goes down, you start eating more calories over time, and through some process you don't control, your weight goes up. So we have to focus on our locus of control, which is our eating. And we start doing that by how we speak, and we stop saying, I gained three pounds, I lost three pounds. I don't know what's going on. I keep gaining and losing weight. No, because you feel out of control when you say that, because you're not in control of that. But if we start looking at saying, yeah, I can eat better for a little while, about three kilos worth, and then I go back to my normal eating, and that's clarifying. And probably, if I had to guess, the reason you can't stick with it, the reason you give up is the way that you're dropping the three kilos is extreme, because I noticed you didn't Give me a time frame. So I don't know how long it takes you to drop three kilos, but I bet it's about a week or two. I bet you probably do something that's kind of intense to drop those three kilos. You can't keep it up, and you go back to normal and you put the three kilos back on. So what's the alternative? How do you stick with it that you start to half what you do to lose three kilos? So if you cut, you know, 2,000 calories out to lose three kilos in a week or two, now you cut 500 calories out. You know, I mean, like, so whatever you're. Whatever method you're doing to drop the three kilos, make it easier and more comfortable, because then that sets you up to stick with it. And when you stick with it, that's the transformation. That's the beginning of it. Anyways.
Christy says, I'm glad I came across your videos. It's helped me make the changes in my mindset. Thank you. You're welcome, Christy. Yes. That's what they're there for. And again, if you're not in my world, make sure you click the link in my bio or go to program yourself. Then go get the free hypnosis session I give you. It's really good. And again, you'll get on my list, and then you'll get the book. I got a book coming out and you get it for free. Just five days of 20, 26, the book's gonna go up. It's going to be free on Amazon. You get the digital version, the Kindle version, completely free. So to make sure you don't miss that, make sure you go sign up for the hypnosis session and get, get on my email list. Monroe says, I follow you, I lose. Then I go out or lose interest. What kick in the ass do I need? Yeah, yeah, the kick in the ass. I get it. Commitments real. You know what I mean? Like, there's no question about it. I think the best example I can say, I don't know if you all have ever heard of, like, there used to be a website. I'm sure it's still around, but it was called Coursera. Right. And so basically what it was is you could go to this site and you could take literal college courses. Like, you could take like a Harvard course in whatever you're interested in. And. But you're on your own, right? So you don't get credit for it. You don't have a teacher. You don't have classmates, all the rest of it, but you can really go through the class. Okay. So I think that's what a lot of dieters do. They kind of dabble, right? And I can't. I've done it myself. I've gone a course there and taken 50 courses. I've completed none of them. Right. Because there's no real commitment there. And so you have to recognize if you're a dabbling dieter or if you're a really committed person to making this happen. And if you're dabbling, then you're going to get dabbling results, you know? And so my suggestion and answer to you is to really explore how you can commit to it, you know? And there's a lot of ways to make commitments, but, yeah, you got to commit. You know what I mean? What's up, Judy? Judy says I tried the how would a thin person act? So I found myself walking taller and more confident at the pool rather than trying to hide under a towel. I also ate slower and ate less and more mindful last night. I'll see how it goes. But as unsuccessful. Yo, yo, dieter. I'm ready to try your way. What you say all makes sense. Thank you. Well, thank you, Judy. Yeah, great job. Great job testing it out. You know, that's what I mean. I'm not here to bullshit you folks. I'm here every day for free. This is a service to me. As many people as possible live at their goal weight. I do have a program because a commitment is necessary to create again, the difference between taking a free online course versus signing up for college, well, one's cheaper and one costs more, but. But one's got a way higher likelihood of getting you to where you want to go for a lot of reasons. And so I do have a program, and you know, that's there for when you're really committed. But I do this as well, and I tell you everything. I'm not holding back anything. And so one of the key, the core strategy, the whole program yourself then program is the program yourself then technique, which a core of it basically is imagining yourself as the person you want to be. At the end of the day, you need to practice being the person you want to be. You need to practice being the thin, healthy version of you. This idea that just some random Monday can show up and you just are this whole different person who eats perfectly makes no sense.
No sense at all. So it's really, really important that I think, I don't know, you know, what else? What in life can you just not Practice that and just decide to be good at it. You know, it's like, oh, well, tomorrow's Monday, so I'm going to be a great piano player, start tomorrow and play hours a day.
I know you said, well, no, Jim, that's totally different because I don't. I don't know how to play the piano. I know how to lose weight. I know what I need to do. I just got to get myself to do it. No, you don't. You don't know how to do it. You don't know how to motivate yourself. You don't know how to keep yourself on track. You don't know how to deal with the cravings. If you did, you wouldn't be listening to me right now. And there's nothing wrong with not knowing, by the way. It's not. It's not a badge of dishonor, okay? You've never learned how to run your own mind. You've never learned to think about your weight in this concept. You've never learned how to deal with your mindset, lifestyle, and eating in a strategic way. You've never learned how to run your mind in a practical way that gets you to do what you know you want to do. You've never learned any that stuff. And you've been misled by the diet your entire life. To think that it all comes down to willpower. It does not come down to willpower. I promise you. I promise you. I've been studying this for over 30 years. I've read thousands of books on all that. It's not a willpower thing. I'll talk willpower with you all day. If you want to come at me with it, come at me with it, because I'll talk about willpower all day long. And once you understand willpower, you understand it's really a process of your prefrontal cortex, the newest part of your brain. The part of your brain, it's about half century. And so you're expecting this part of your brain that's so energy intensive and gets depleted quickly, that's going to drive you to your goal weight. Like you're just always going to use it to fight against yourself. And it's. That's not how it's going to work. That's why it hasn't worked. You know, you need a different approach. But the good news is, once you learn this different approach, it's just simpler. It's easier. It works. But unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to do it. That's why I'm here. Every day. So great job, Judy. Keep it up. Okay? Yep. Tiny says exactly. Well, good, Tanya. I'm glad that that helps you out. So do a different strategy this time, all right?
Thank you. Jody says you make so much sense. Great explanation today. Appreciate that. Yeah, Some good explanations coming today.
I'm feeling it. I'm feeling it. I. I am. Say I. I got so many loops, right? So you know the concept of open loops in your mind. I got so many open. Lo closing or I haven't closed him yet again. I'm like, I'm on the. The two yard line. The end zone's right in front of me. You know, I got a bunch of loops. I'm closing. Oh, I can't wait. I've been really kind of running at full capacity for a little while here, so I'm really looking forward.
No, I am. But thank you, Jody. I appreciate that. What's up, Sherry?
There's Patty. Patty says it takes years to learn the piano. I'm a piano teacher. I do think about this when I practice healthy habits. That's awesome, Patty. Yeah, I use the piano metaphor all the time because I always think of. Dieting is the equivalent of, like, someone like, imagine you lived in a world where everyone always said, if you want to learn the piano, you got to really. You got to really commit to it. And that means playing eight hours a day. If you're serious, you got to play eight hours a day. That's how you learn the piano. If you're serious, you want to do it, you serious? You got to play eight hours a day. And so you go and play the piano, and you get through your first day of eight hours. And now you wake up the next day and your fingers are like this. You hate the piano. The last thing we want to do is sit at that piano the second day. This is what dieting is like. You know what I mean? It's just this ridiculous, ridiculous strategy to approach something, you know, it's the eight hours of piano playing to learn how to play piano. And as a piano teacher, you obviously know that that's not a good strategy, right? The strategy is low and slow. You got to weave it, build it into your life. It's not about practicing 20 hours the first week. It's about practicing consistently. 20 minutes a day is more valuable. Right? Because those days stack up. That's what leads to success. Not the initial burst of energy and then fading, you know? So, yes, I mentioned the piano metaphor all the time because just to try to illustrate how silly dieting is, dieting is so silly. And if you put it into a different context, it reveals itself. But because we've been surrounded by dieting our entire lives, we've just normalized to it. So we just think dieting is the normal way. It is not. It's a goofy strategy and you would never use it in any other area of your life. You would never use that strategy because again, it's the, oh, I want to learn how to knit, so I'm 10 hours a day of knitting. It's this over. Ridiculous. Because think about how you're starting your diet. You're starting on a Monday, and you are 100% completely changing the way that you behave and the way you eat from that point forward. And it just, that idea completely reveals a total and complete ignorance of how your mind works. You can't just change everything all at once. As much as you would like to. I know that's the dream. I know you'd love to just change all in one day and lose all the weight this week, but you just can't. And it's that, that idea that the diet is really installed in your mind is one of the core reasons you're struggling. Because every time you try to lose weight, you just hit it 100 miles an hour. You know, here's the other metaphor I use, is that, you know, your weight is really a never ending marathon. I know you, you have a negative response when I say that, but let me ask you it in a different way. How long would you like to live at your goal weight? Well, when I ask it that way, you say, well, forever. When I say your weight's a never ending marathon, you. Oh, oh, no. Forever, right? Oh, God, I don't think about it. That's because though your whole life you have been taught to sprint in a marathon, you know, so it's like, imagine you're sitting at the starting line marathon, I'm gonna sprint this thing. These dumb bastards, they never thought of that. And then the gun goes off and you just start sprinting, right? And the first eighth of a mile, you're way out ahead of when you're. Holy. This is really working. I'm killing these guys. I'm killing. I'm winning the next eighth of a mile, you collapse and don't even finish the race. And that's your, that's your weight loss analogy as well. You know, you, you are sprinting in a marathon. Sounds great on paper. Yeah, just sprint the whole thing. It sounds great on paper, but in reality, it's not up for the Task. It's a terrible strategy. You gotta pace yourself. You've got to run the race you're running, you know, and the dieting industry has taught you to sprint in a marathon. And it's one of the main reasons you fail, because you gas yourself out, you burn yourself out before you have a chance of finishing the race. So the answer is to, you know, it's like. And then that person saying, oh, my God, I. I had him that first eighth of a mile. Did you see how far ahead I was? You see how far ahead I was? I just gotta run. I just gotta sprint further, you know, you say, okay, and the next race comes. You do eighth of a mile, you collapse. He's, oh, see, I was winning again, you see? I just see how far ahead I was. That's what a dieter is like. That's why when I hear someone say, oh, my God, I lost ten pounds this week, I don't give a shit. I. When I hear someone say, I lost 10 pounds this week, to me, it's like listening to the person, do you see how far ahead I Was that 1st 8th of a month? Who gives a. Who gives a. If you were eighth of a mile in first place, you didn't finish the race. Again, I'm not judging you. I'm just saying that that's. What are we celebrating here? That you were ahead for. For five minutes? Who cares?
If you can't maintain and keep it up, what's the point? And I think we have to normalize that. You know what I mean? Like, because again, it's. I'm not speaking. I love dieters and I hate the diet. Understand? Gotta be able to call out the diets. They're a bunch of. It's terrible. It's a terrible mindset, and it's the primary reason you're stuck. The primary reason you're stuck is you've got a dieter's mindset. That's the number one reason you're overweight. More than your metabolism, more than your medications, more than your addictions, all of that stuff. Your number one reason you're struggling with your weight is you think about your weight as a dieter, and it keeps you trapped, keeps you stuck there. So.
Yeah, Jane says, are you on here the same time every day? Yes, same time. Ish. I would say. I'm here every day, Monday through Friday, usually around noon to 12:30 Eastern. I pop on here. But this is also a podcast, too. So if you're on here and you like listeners, but you can't catch it, you can go to any podcast platform, search program yourself. Then it'll pop up. You listen whenever you want. That's how a lot of people listen to it. But get on here, please. Get on here and ask a question. Okay? I'm here to help you all out. This is a mission for me. So, yes, every day I am here.
Elaine says, I've lost 10kg. Feel like I've lost 10kg. Just as hard to keep it off. Your videos really helped me with my mindset. That's great. Nice job, Elainey. Nice job.
Yeah, just as hard to keep it off. But again, keeping it off is. It's not hard to keep it off. Do you understand? That's why we've got to take our. Our language out of I gain weight, I lose weight, I got to keep it off. We got to stop that because your weight is a reflection. Your weight is a reflection of your eating, your calorie consumption. So we want to focus on the calorie consumption because it's a level. It's. It. It's the level you can control. You can't control your weight. Does that make. I don't know. It may sound like I'm splitting hairs or it's just semantics or whatever, but I'm telling you, it's not. This is a really, really important point that you can't keep saying, I gain weight, I lose weight. I got to keep it off. It's really hard. Because.
It'S not hard to keep the weight off. If you love how you're eating and how you eat keeps you at your goal weight, does that make sense? I live at my goal. I've been on my goal weight for 30 years. A couple blips, but I've pretty much been at the same goal weight for 30 years. Is it hard for me? Nope, it's not. I have trained myself to eat a certain way to live a certain way to think a certain way. I programmed in. You're eating so you don't understand. Like, you. You run on autopilot. And if you think about it, your weight, you may be overweight, but your weight's also stable, right? It's. It stays at a consistent spot pretty much. I mean, sometimes it kind of goes up. Things are going on, but. But overall, pretty much. If you look back at your history, you know your weight kind of is around a certain spot. If it wasn't, you'd be a thousand pounds. It doesn't just keep going up and up and up. Stop telling yourself that. That one, too, but. So you're the Reason your weight stays at a certain spot typically is because you're programmed to behave in a certain way. Your. Your behaviors run in patterns. This is how humans operate. We tend to do what we did. We follow the patterns we've learned. And your eating is one of the core patterns that you have in you. And so you're eating is consistent. You're bringing in the same amount of calories consistently. That's why you're weighted what it is. And so instead of thinking we're just going to fight against ourselves to change our weight, we want to reprogram ourselves so our new behaviors are just as automatic as our old behaviors. That makes sense.
I hope it does, because when you focus on it that way, it sets you up to get to a place where you don't have to struggle to stay there. It just becomes the normal, natural way you do it.
Yeah, Caroline, exactly. Life is a marathon. Exactly right. Because again, you. And it's not just weight anyways, you know, but it's like, how long do you want to be healthy? How long do you want to have energy? How long do you want to be at your goal weight? How long do you want to have mobility? How long do you want to have independence, energy, stamina, strength, balance, flexibility? How long would you like to have these things? Right. I'm going to assume you're going to stay forever. As long as I'm alive, I hope is what you're going to say. So we need strategies that we're comfortable living for the rest of our lives.
As you focus on that goal, instead of just losing weight, you start focusing on losing weight in a way that's comfortable and sustainable long term. You start accumulating different strategies. And now it's like I sit on top of these strategies that I've accumulated and installed, and now they run the show. They kind of run me automatically to keep me at my goal weight. So I'm not struggling. I'm not fighting against myself. I haven't dieted in 30 years. I haven't exercised consistently in 30 years. What I've done is I've mastered my mindset, my lifestyle, my eating, and how to run my mind. That's the secret, you know, that's my clients do. Again, it's not. It's not a mission. That's something just I did. I would never get out here and just talk about what I did. I would never do that. I talk about things I see every day with my clients. Things that work I see over and over and over again.
Ken says I use Your same all or something attitude with my exercising, Kent, that's so great. And I think again, all or something is really the way of life because we can't be all or nothing with most things. You know, it's just not a real thing. So that's wonderful, Ken. I'm sure your exercise will improve, you know.
Yeah. It says, thanks for saying put your energy and lifestyle. Yes. When you invest in, you know, when you invest. Right. Because dieting is like not investing. I mean, like dieting is just like being in the moment. You're just thinking in the moment. I just want to lose weight right now. Right. Very short term focus. That's a big part of the dieting mindset. But with program yourself, then we're thinking long term so we can think in an investment kind of concept. And so we're not looking to just use willpower to change our eating each and every moment. We're looking to use our willpower to change our habits, to change our mindset, our lifestyle, our eating. And in a way that's going to continue automatically. Let me give you an example. Brushing your teeth. Brushing your teeth is the healthiest habit you've probably ever installed, right? So you were a kid and you learned to brush your teeth when you wake up, when you go to bed, maybe other times, whatever. But you learn that routine. And now as an adult, you just do it pretty much automatically. You don't have to remember to brush your teeth. You don't have to fight yourself. Brushes just, just kind of just do it. Just part of what you do. And I think that once you realize that you can do that with lots of things, life becomes a lot easier because think about your teeth are in the shape there and be directly based on your habit. There's other factors, obviously, but your toothbrushing habit is one of the primary factors in your tooth health. And most likely you installed a toothbrushing habit that runs on its own. Now, 40 years later, you're still brushing your teeth the same way, pretty much on autopilot. That is the secret to mastering your weight, is to invest your willpower into your habits, into things that are going to run themselves.
Hope that makes sense.
And he says I am. Take your strategy and revert it to alcohol. Thanks. Yes, absolutely. I used it for alcohol. I, I was a binge drinker. Real issue, you know, for a little while there. And I absolutely used all of the same stuff with, I use it with everything, by the way, it's a, it's absolutely applicable to literally every area of your life. Because every area of your life funnels through your mindset. You know what I mean? Your mind's involved with all of it. But I absolutely used it to get control over the alcohol and the drinking. So I think that.
That, that's a great idea and strategy. You know, what's up, Vicky? Because. Hi, Jim. I think of limit as goal weight range at all times, not a number. Agreed. Agreed. And that's true. I do say goal weight, but really it's goal weight range technically. And that's. That's an important distinction to make as well. TJ Says, I am struggling with trying to keep weight off and try and keep bad food out of the house. Stop baking, so I won't eat it all. Then I go and buy a cake of chocolate, keep it in the freezer, then remember it's there and can't just eat a row or two. I eat half the block and then finish it off the next day. So it's not in the house. Yep. Just heard your last comment about behavior, and I feel like I'm constantly self sabotaging myself. I'm glad you brought all that up. So thank you for asking that. Tj, I do not believe you're sabotaging yourself. I think saying you're sabotaging yourself is confusing to your mind and not accurate. So I start this off by saying, you know, if I sat you down at the piano, you've never played the piano in your life. I sat you at the piano. I said, okay, play me a song. And you say, well, I don't know how to. I would say, wait a second. Stop sabotaging yourself. You say, what do you mean, sabotage myself? I don't know how to do it. And I'd say, no, stop sabotaging yourself. Play me a song. Stop. Sabotage. I'll hear it. Right. That languaging wouldn't make sense in that situation. Right. The truth is, you never learned how to play piano. And the truth is, tj, you have not learned how to deal with the food consumption. You haven't really learned how to deal with your eating, specifically around the cake and baked goods. Okay? So I don't believe you're sabotaging yourself because there's a big difference between stopping yourself from doing something that you typically do for a little while and having a genuine alternative that feels normal and natural. Those are two totally different things. And so I would say to you, tj, just right off the bat, your. Your real issue is that you don't really have good strategies for how to reduce the baked good consumption in your life. And I will let you know that if you start to look at your baked good consumption. Right. Cause again, I think you're pulling a mistake on yourself by saying, I am struggling with trying to keep the weight off. You're not struggling with trying to keep the weight off. That's the easy part. The struggle you're having is eating cake. Do you see the difference there? I hope this is really making a point. You're not struggling to keep the weight off, folks. Stop saying that. If you stopped eating cake, T.J. you wouldn't struggle with the weight at all.
I know. I get what you're thinking. Right. But you've got to be specific. You need to be literal with your subconscious mind. Because if you say, oh, my God, I keep struggling to keep the weight off, that opens the door to, oh, my, metabolic issue, thyroid issue, insulin. I got all these things that are stopping me. That ain't the problem. The main problem is that you. You're struggling to stop eating so much cake. Chocolate cake specifically.
Now, if we follow that path, that's not the end of the story. Okay? So instead we. Instead of stop saying, oh, I'm struggling to keep the weight off because you're not struggling to keep the weight off. You're struggling to stop eating so much chocolate cake. So now we're on the right path, because now I say, okay, when are you eating chocolate cake? I think you're eating more chocolate cake at certain times. I don't think you eat the same amount of chocolate cake every single day, every single part of the day. I think there's very specific situations where you eat this cake, very specific moods you get in time of day or week, you get in. There's patterns to your cake eating. I guarantee it. And as you start to understand those patterns, that is the path transformation, because you do not struggle to keep the weight off. You struggle to eat less chocolate cake. And in order to eat less chocolate cake, you have to understand where you're eating it now and why, and then follow that path to start to make it easier and more comfortable to do other things in those situations than go to the chocolate cake.
Hope that makes sense and you're not sabotaging yourself. You don't have better strategies available to you. The best track. Because let me just go a little bit deeper. I'm going to guess now, I don't like to just assume, but I'm going to do it here. I bet, TJ that when you're eating the cake, you're in a bad mood. You're depressed, you're sad, you're stressed, you're overwhelmed. I bet you're in an emotional state and that's when you're eating the most cake. So I would want to notice the situations where you eat the most cake, understand them, and seek better alternatives and strategies in those moments. And until you have those, you're not sabotaging yourself. Hope that makes sense. Lori says, I so appreciate you. I just got back from two week vacation in Caribbean. Totally not surprised that scale went up given the food and drinks I consumed. Staying calm about it and moving forward with confidence and not criticism. Lori, that makes my heart happy. Thank you. And I'm glad you got to enjoy your vacation. That's what vacations are for. Vacations are not for losing weight. Your vacations are not controlling, folks. You're, you know what I mean? Like, like it's not the vacations that are controlling your weight. It's the 98 of the year. So great job, Laura. I'm glad you went and had a fun time on vacation. Ate a little more, drank a little more, good for you. And now you get back and you refocus. That's how you lose weight. And when you keep this process up next year, when you go on vacation or whenever you go on vacation again, you're close to your goal weight. You go on vacation, have a couple more drinks, eat it, more food, put a couple of pounds on, take it off, and keep going closer and closer to your goal weight till eventually you get to your goal weight, go on vacation, eat a little more, drink a little more, put a little bit of weight on, come back home, comes right off, go about your life. That's what weight, that's what living your goal weight looks like, folks. It's not that we live at the exact same weight all the time, always acting exactly the same. Really? What? Living at our goal weight gives us the flexibility to adjust to what's going on, to go on vacation, eat a little more, drink a little more if you want to, but then be able to come home and get right back on track. That's the secret. We don't want to live as a dieter our whole lives. We want to go to the Caribbean and eat salads and, and drink water all the time. Maybe if that's what you want to do, fine, okay, not what I want to do. I'll eat some food and have some drinks, that's what I want to do. But put a couple pounds on there, I don't give a. That week is not going to control My eating, I might go up a couple pounds for a week or two and then I'll come back down to my normal thing because I will get right back on track when I get home. That's the secret. So good job, Lori. I'm proud of you and I appreciate you sharing that.
Yeah, Vicki says all are something applicable to all areas of life. Agreed? Agreed. Yes, it really is. It's just so such a powerful concept, you know.

I've been doing this for over 20 years professionally. It, it's $25,000 to work with me privately, you know what I mean? Like so I'm giving you this free hypnosis session. This isn't, you know, Susie's hypnosis, you know, stand down the street. They just got certified last week. I've been doing this. I'm a master hypnotist, you know, I mean I'm a yoga instructor, I'm an LP trainer. I've done all this. I'm a street to you coach. I've done over 6, 000 private weight loss sessions. I've been working on program yourself in my program for over 20 years. I mean there's not a lot of me. So I'm just giving you this hypnosis session so you just experience it. I got so much cool stuff coming too.
Because the cool stuff is coming. It really is. I mean, you're gonna knock your socks off for real, right? But yeah, I can't wait for you. I cannot wait for you get this book. And then I'm gonna start almost right away working on the next book. I cannot wait for you get that book either. This book that's coming is the dao of living at your goal weight. And it is a. It's really meant to be. It's kind of a unique book. It's meant to be. It's hard to explain what it is kind of. Because it's written kind of a poetic style. So there's 40 chapters, but they're short and it's easy reading. It's. It's based on the Dao de Jing, if you're familiar with that. It's a collection of short hypnotic stories because the goal is to basically take you through the program yourself then system in a light and accessible way. And as you read this book, just reading it starts to change you. So it's meant to be read multiple times like it's meant to be read. It's very easy to read. It's like the type. It's the perfect type of book. Like you know, you put it back to your bed and you read, you know, a chapter or two before you go to bed each night, you know, leave it in the bathroom. It's the type of book like I've read this book 100 times. I think it's great. The great people know you're all gonna love it and so I cannot wait for you to get it. And the book that comes out after that is more of the kind of traditional book with just lots of information in it. Just breaking the whole system down from soup to nuts, everything about it. But for right now, this book is. Is the right book to go out first. And I think you're all going to love it and I can't wait for you to get it. So anyways, make sure you got my list though. Make sure you don't, don't miss out on the free version of it. Carrie says I need to correct that. It's either wasted on your body or it's wasted in the trash you make. Yes, that is true food for. For those of you the clean your plate, the food's getting wasted regardless whether you waste it in the trash or whether you wasting the toilet Is, you know.
Thank you. Appreciate that.
TJ Says you're right. I eat badly at night. Thank you for your wisdom. I'm usually in a relaxed state. Have been dealing with pain management the last four years. I can hardly eat through the day, but by the end of the day, I'm thinking about what I can eat. There you go, T.J. so you're so much better off now than you were when you just say, well, I'm struggling to keep the weight off. It's not a. You're not struggling to keep the weight off, folks. You wouldn't struggle to keep the weight off if you love eating healthy, natural whole foods and hated junk food and fast food. Right. You know what I mean? It's not about the weight. It's about your behavior. You're struggling with your behavior, and so that moves us a level closer to the reality of it. So good for you, T.J. you're a step closer because now you can have a conversation that what's going on at night? You know what I mean? So it's not the whole day now. Again, the night's related to the day. And when I hear you say, I can hardly eat through the day, I'm not sure exactly what that means. So I'm assuming. I don't know what that means because you're dealing with pain management, too. So I can hardly eat. I don't know if that means you feel sick and you can't eat during the day or if you're trying not to eat during the day and then you overeat at night. But regardless, you're a step closer at least to find a solution out than it sounds like you are. So keep focusing on the TJ and show up here again. I'm happy as you walk your path, folks. I'm here for you all. So it's like, if you ask me a question, let me kind of give you some feedback, go home, think about a little bit, come back, be like, oh, that. That was amazing. That really helped. Or, hey, what you said was a bunch of bullshit. Didn't work at all. It's fine. I've never heard that. Okay, but you could be the first. I don't have no problem. I. I promise you I'm not. I'm not worried that I'm going to say something to you and it should be, you know, not work at all. I've been doing this for a long time. Okay. I know what I'm saying has a good chance of moving you forward. May not be the perfect answer. May not Move you all the way to where you want to go, but I can almost guarantee you to move in the right direction. All right, Green Eyed Blonde says. I loved when you said in one of your videos that it's not that you can't stop eating, it's that you won't stop eating is what I'm going to imagine you're saying. And yes, again, it comes back to the language we use. We have to be careful with the language. It's not just semantics. It's literal programming, you know, so we got to be very careful of the language we use in our mind. And when people say that they can't stop eating, that's not true. It's not true. Stop saying that. Because. Because if you don't believe that, do you not believe that? Do you really think you can't stop eating? Is there anyone here that thinks they can't stop eating?
You can't. You can't think that. You can't possibly think you can't stop eating.
It's a motivation issue. You know, whatever food you think you can't stop eating. If I said, I'll give you a million bucks this month, we struggle to eat it, would you? Oh, I was so close to that million bucks, but I couldn't stop the Snickers bar from going to my mouth. Yeah, exactly. I like your million dollar analogy, of course, because it clarifies. It clarifies the situation. And that's really important because if you're walking around saying, oh, I can't stop eating. I can't stop myself from eating. I can't stop myself from eating. That's a hypnotic suggestion. It ain't true. Again, let me give you a million. You don't eat that, I'll give you a million bucks. You're going to struggle to eat, to stop eating Ben and Jerry's ice cream for a month if I give you a million dollars, you know, you're not. And what. How would that work? Because all of a sudden, you would stop fixating on the pleasure of the ice cream. You start fixing on the pleasure of the million dollars. And all of a sudden, in a second, that ice cream would just disappear.
So that is a very powerful strategy.
Well, thank you, Sherry. Sherry says, folks, Jim really is here for us. Solly proves that over and over again, and that is life changing for us. Yeah, well, I'm. I'm happy. And again, that really is my mission in life, and I'm blessed to live it. I promise you that. I'm very blessed with what I get to do. And this is just one of the key ways I do it. And that's why I get here every day. Because, again, for me, this is a mission. For those of you who don't know, my father died of a heart attack when he was 54. I was nine years old, so was very much weight related. And so for me, this whole weight thing is not. I think that's one of the core things that makes me different than a lot of weight loss stuff you hear, because a lot of weight loss stuff is really built around looking better. And while I do want you to look better, too, my main goal is I want you to live longer. I want you to live a happier, healthier life, too. I want you to have a better quality life while you're alive, and I want you to live as long as you can, and I want you to look good, okay? But those other things come first. And so that's literally why I'm here every day. Because to me, this is life or life or death. And I know getting on every day, I know for a fact I'm helping people live longer with their families, with the people they love. You know, I know it for a fact. And it's why I do this, you know, and it's why you should get my free stuff, because, again, I give you more free stuff than anyone. I got so much free stuff coming.
That it would be silly. If you do care about your weight, it'd be silly not to go get those things. All right? TJ says not through the day and end up eating in the evening. I will work on my behavior. Thank you. Okay, T.J. well, now see. See how quickly we can move T.J. into a better space. So now you're doing. The number one diet mistake is that dieters. This is the most common thing I see. They come to me, they say, jim, everything's going great for breakfast and lunch, and everybody's falling apart after night. So breakfast and lunch. I said, well, what do you. What do you want to eat? But nothing, you know, I don't eat nothing. Nothing. And so again, this. This is why I always say, like, where the problem shows up a lot of times is not where the problem was created. And so in your situation, tj, you're following the ex strategy to fail. You're getting yourself starving so that by the time the night comes and you're really hungry and you have no willpower and you're tired, that's when you're overeating. And so you think you're trying to. Again, this is what dieters do. They try, and it's like an endurance test to see how long you can go without eating, see how hungry you can be. It's a terrible strategy. So the answer, tj, would be to start structuring your eating. So you nourish yourself at breakfast, nourish yourself at lunch, go into the evening feeling satisfied, and you'll find that it completely changes everything. You know, now it's a work in progress. I'm not saying this is easy. I just made it sound. But that's the core strategy. You're doing the opposite of it. Trying to starve yourself and then wondering why you're stuffing yourself at night.
That's why. You know, when you get really, really hungry, you're not gonna be able to control your eating. I am not. Because I'm hungry all the time. I'm at my goalie. Keep it at a comfortable level all the time. So Rose says I got rid of all snack items so I don't eat without thinking about it. The thought of making something to eat makes me not do it. Definitely do not buy ice cream. True, true. That's a great strategy, Rose. I like that. And I do the same thing. I. I can eat ice cream. I can eat as much ice cream as I want, but I don't keep it in the house. And so if I do want, I. I've got to go out to get it. And if I go out to get it, I'm either going to get like an ice cream cone where I'm just going to consume that ice cream that moment there, and. Or I get like a little cup, like Ben and Jerry's thing, and it's a serving of it, and I'll bring it home and I'll eat that. And it's a. It's a one time experience, and that's it. I'm not going to go buy a pint of ice cream. Just keep it in the freezer. Talk about how do you crank up food noise. Go buy a giant bag of chips, a giant bag of cookies, a giant thing of ice cream and leave it in the house. That's how you crank up food noise instantly. You know, amongst many ways to do it. But.
All right, gonna get out of here. I got a lot of work to do. I really do. Oh, my God. I always wonder, is this gonna chill out? I'm on full, full blown work mode. Yeah.
Brick house. I'm actually the president of the board now, so that's another one, another thing I work on. But again, super duper organization. I appreciate all of you made donations there. Well, thank you for that. That's another thing. So anyways, I get out of here. If you're not in my world, please click the link in my bio or go to program yourself. Then go get the free hypnosis session. Get. Get in the world here. And that'll get you set up to get the free book January 1st. And if you like this, I'm here every Monday through Friday, usually noon to 12:30 Eastern. Get on here, ask questions. Let me help you. I'm happy. This is what I'm doing. I'm here for you, okay?
