A short coaching clip by Jim Katsoulis presenting the "fly on the wall" technique for changing bad habits by shifting perspective. The speaker asks you to imagine being a fly in the room watching yourself perform the habit (example given: night snacking), which often reduces desire and changes how you feel about the behavior; listeners are invited to try it.

The fly on the wall technique. So this is a great technique to use when you want to change a bad habit and it works because you're shifting your perspective. You're changing the way that you see that habit. So what you do is you imagine that you are a fly within the room wherever you do that bad habit. So let's just say for example you snack at night and you want to change this. What you're going to do is you're going to imagine that you are the fly in that room and you're going to imagine watching yourself snack throughout the night. And again as you shift your perspective on it you imagine watching yourself do the bad habit. A lot of times what you're going to notice is that it makes you feel less desire to want to do that habit. It changes changes the way you feel about it. So take a little bit of time and test this out. It can be very, very powerful.
