This is a YouTube video titled "beware of false hope syndrome" featuring Jim Katsoulis discussing the psychological pattern called false hope syndrome related to weight loss motivation and commitment, recorded in June 2025.
False hope syndrome is when you feel bad about your weight and yourself. And so you start imagining all the changes you wanna make, all the weight you wanna lose, and you start feeling more hopeful and more excited, which is great, but you've gotta make a commitment in that state because if you just feel good in that moment, you'll most likely never make a real commitment to changing it. And so then you just gets caught in this cycle where you feel bad about your weight, and then you start thinking about all the changes you wanna make, you start feeling better, and then you start feeling bad about it 'cause you didn't do anything to actually change it. So what you wanna do is make a real commitment. assistant, that exists outside of just feeling hopeful and excited about losing the weight, but something that ties you to getting on that path and making it a reality, whether you're motivated and excited or not.
