Jim Katsoulis realized his weight problem wasn't a knowledge gap but a behavior problem. Instead of hunting for the perfect diet, he started practicing the daily habits of someone thinner, like not snacking at night, the same way you'd learn piano.

The biggest breakthrough I ever had with my weight is to realize it wasn't a knowledge issue. It was a behavior issue. And what I mean by that is that for a long time, I was out there looking for the perfect plan that would work for me. But I realized that it wasn't about knowing what to do. I knew enough about what I should and shouldn't need. The problem was I couldn't get myself to consistently do it. And so when I shifted to focusing on the behavior, I began to approach my weight almost like I would if I wanted to learn the piano or learn a language. And I began to focus on my practicing, getting good at acting, and being a thin person. And that's what it took. It took practice. It wasn't enough to, no, I shouldn't snack at night. I had to practice not snacking at night. So I hope this makes sense, because you already know enough about what you shouldn't. Shouldn't do. The problem is getting good at doing it. And so rarely do we think about losing weight as a process of practicing. But that was the biggest shift for me.
