Never Start Another Diet Again

Jim Katsoulis argues against the diet cycle. Instead of starting and stopping, adopt an "all or something" mindset: always do at least one small healthy action to keep momentum. He breaks overeating into specific habits to target and explains why weight regain happens.

Welcome to today's program yourself Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about never starting another diet again. Oh, the greatest day of your life is the one where you just said, I'm never going to start another diet again. The end of starting over, right? The ultimate goal for any person who wants to lose weight, and that starts now. Okay? You stop. You stop starting your diet right now. Whether you're on the diet or whether you're not, you just get it out of your mind. Stop thinking about starting a diet. You've got to stop doing that because that start stop thing is really screwing with your head and it's causing you to stop most the time or to be stopped most of the time and to put off starting. And then once you're starting, then you're wondering how long it's gonna be till you stop again. And then you wonder how long it's been till you start again. And this idea of like starting and stopping is a direct consequence of thinking all or nothing with your weight loss, which is what the diet industry has taught you to do, okay? So it's really, really important that you start to think about your weight loss not as a start stop thing, but as a thing you're going to do forever. And the clearest example I can get it for you is brushing your teeth, right? Brushing your teeth is something you never think and start stops with, right? You're just going to do it. And on the off chance you forget to brush your teeth for some reason, you don't think just, oh, God, I got to start brushing my teeth again. You just do it, right? It's just part of what you do. And the more you start to think about your weight this way, the better because you have to get out of this idea of the big starts, the big stops, all this big stuff you're going to do and start to realize you're always going to do something. Now, you could still do more, right? But you want to maintain that base level. So in program yourself, then we call this all or something. We're always doing something. And because we're always doing something, no matter how small it may be, and sometimes that something may be drinking a little more water, eating an apple, going for a walk. It doesn't have to be anything big, but because we're always in the game, we get rid of the starts and stops and we always are doing at least something. And when you do that, you just run at a higher gear, okay? Because again, you're always going to do something. You're always in the Game, of course you can always do more. That's why it's all or something. But we're never doing nothing. We want to keep that mindset away from us. It's so toxic. Why would you ever just be like, oh, forget, I'm not going to think about that? You know, that's what causes most people's failure when it comes to their weight, is that they're all or nothing, starting and stopping. And statistically, they're stopping a lot more than they're starting, and that's what causes the problems. So statistically, if we can just start to be engaged more of the time, more frequently, we can get that percentage of engagement up. We're going to improve our results. And the beauty of that as well is that we can improve our results and do it more consistently, more comfortably. We can do it more comfortably. That's one of the key things. And so we want to be comfortable with how we're managing our weight. We don't want the extremes. You don't, Right. I know you like the extreme weight loss, right. I know you like the extreme results, but of course you don't like the extreme diets or things you have to do to lose the weight quickly, Right? So again, we want to just extract that mindset, right, from our brain, just pull it out of our brains and throw it away. From now on, I'm always going to be engaged for the rest of my life. I'm always going to have at least one eye on my weight, on my health, on my food. And when you start thinking that way, it just raises that foundation, right? Because again, a lot of times you're going to nothing mode. And that nothing mode can last months, years, right? So we want to eliminate that and always at least be doing something. It maintains a sense of momentum, it maintains a sense of movement. And so when you have even a little bit of movement, it's a lot easier to keep going forward as opposed to being in a direct stop, a complete stop, and then trying to get ourselves going. Right? It's the basics of physics, which I don't know about physics, but it's the basics of an object that rests, tends to stay at rest, right. It's the same idea there that when something stops and even if it's just psychological, right. Even from. I'm done with that. I'm done with that diet, right? We have this sense of stopping, and now it's harder to get ourselves moving, right? Because the object at rest tends to stay at rest. Object in motion tends to stay in motion. So we want to keep ourselves in motion. And the secret is to have a variety of ways to do that, from all to something, right? So when we're really focused and motivated, we've got energy, time, all the rest of it. Knock yourself out, go all in, do whatever you want to do. But the key thing to plan for is when you are exhausted, stressed, tired, no time, busy, what can you do there to actually stay in the game? And again, it does not have to be big. It's because so much of the something piece of it is about mindset, you know, I mean, so it's not. I know I start, I'm going to go for my walk today. Maybe that walk's not going to transform your weight completely, but what it does is it gives your brain a way to say, I'm still doing something. I'm always in the game. Again, drinking some more water is not going to necessarily change all your weight, but it's just one more way to stay in the game. And so we look for all these little, easy, simple ways to stay in the game. And when you start to add more and more of those into your life, what happens is you're more and more involved, easier and easier, and that is how you get the results you're looking for, because it's that way of approaching it over time that gives you the results you're actually looking for. And I would suggest that it's almost impossible to get the results you're looking for with this start stop mindset of dieting. It's just never going to work for you. Mathematically, it just doesn't work because statistically, you're just out of the game too much of the time, and the amount of effort and energy it takes to get started again is wasted. So, again, we want to keep ourselves moving forward in simple, easy, comfortable ways. And when you start to focus on that part of it, what happens is you kind of build yourself a machine that keeps you moving forward, right? And that machine's in your head. It's a mindset, and it's really important. So I hope this helps you out. And if you want to go deeper into this, click the link in my bio and go get the free hypnosis session. I give you hope. It's called the New Thin Me. It's a kickstart session, and it is free and designed to help you get kickstarted, right? Get you motivated, get you fired up, clarify your goal and connect to it so that you can start losing weight today. And I've got a training for You. I can do a bunch of other free stuff as well when you get in there. So again, click the link in my bio or go to program yourself then and go get that. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them again. I am here every day, Monday through Friday, usually around noon. I don't know why I keep saying noon. Usually I say it's probably. 12:30 is probably more accurate. That's what I'm usually getting here. Sorry.
So anyways, Gladys. Hey, Jim, how are you? Don't forget to activate my hypnosis sessions. You know, Claudia, I was pretty sure I did activate your hypnosis sessions, so I don't know why that hasn't worked. You're not getting emails. Can you shoot me an email one more time? I've had such a tech week. It's been two weeks. I gotta be honest, I've had a lot of tech over the last two weeks and things have absolutely fallen through the cracks. I could have sworn that yours was fixed. But anyways, just shoot me the email and I would promise you I will get that done within the next 24 hours. All right? So apologize for that.
They have any questions, feel free to ask them. What's up, Jody? Jody says, love, love, love the COVID It's perfect, Jim. Thank you. Thank you. Yes, I did choose the COVID.
And again, I say it once more, thank goodness for deadlines, or else I'd still be. Oh, I don't know. But at the end of the day, you know, it's so funny. I slept, like, last night because I was thinking about which cover I was going to choose for my book. I was down to two of them. And. And it's. Yeah, it's really exciting. I love the COVID of the book so much. And I knew. I will tell you those. Those are the two that I love, the two final ones. And the first one, I was like, oh, I really love that. I really liked it. And then I was looking through and looking through, and again, you have to understand, I went from, like. I don't even know. I don't say all these different numbers, but they're literally like 300. There were over 300 designs, but a lot of them were like versions of each other. Right? So I'd say maybe there was like 150 unique designs for this book. And so it's so hard to go through them and choose. Right? So there's. They were. I would say easily over half of them are really good. And anyways, so I was like, oh, I really like this one. I Liked it. And then I saw this other one. I'm like, oh, this would be better when I thought about it. And anyways, I put the poll and the, the one I really thought was the best one was the one that people liked the most. That made me so happy. And on top of that.
That designer even made it look nicer, so. So I don't know if you saw, Jody, the new updated one. You may have.
That one was updated, be a little more colorful. It's so cool looking. It's so exciting, I gotta tell you. So, yeah, so we're finishing up the design of the book. The interior design is being set up right now.
The book, I went through it again today. You know, it's ready to go. I just gotta fix a couple things in the beginning of the book, like the blurbs and little intro stuff, but that I will. I'm pretty much right there, so. Oh, I'll let you know. I'll probably hire a designer today or tomorrow and I'll see. I can't imagine it taking more than a few days. I, I, But I might be crazy on that. I don't know. It's not a very long book. I mean, we're talking probably 10,000 words, which, you know, laid out might be 100, 120 pages maybe, you know, so it's not, it's not a big book. It was not designed to be a big book, but I cannot wait for y' all to get it. Anyways, I'm glad you like it, Jody. That makes me happy. All right. Sherry likes it, too. Good, good. Yeah. Yeah. I'm so excited. And I can't wait to show it to you all. I cannot wait to hold this book up and show you. It's very exciting for me.
All right. Shindida. Sanjita from India. How's it going? Nice to. Nice to see you.
I'm not sure what your name is. Oh, Ria. Ria. Yeah. Rhea. I've made healthy changes since watching you. Three meals a day that satisfy me so I don't snack between meals was a huge win. Yeah. That's great. Yeah. Again, structuring your reading, you know, it's, it's the, the secret to success, in my opinion. I would say, I will tell you, I've been doing this professionally over 20 years, and I work with intelligent people. Please understand that. Okay. And I would say that the biggest strategic shift that my clients make that helps them the most, I would say, over the years, is structuring their reading.
That's what I think. I Think that it makes me realize in dieting, it's not really like structuring. The way I'm talking about is different than structure, than the way diets talk about it. Right. Because diets give you very firm, rigid, strict rules. Okay? So it's really. I think we need more.
A plan of how to eat that's structured, so it's got some stability to it, but it also has some flexibility to it. Okay. And the main point of it is exactly what you just said, Rhea, that we're looking to structure the eating, not just to lose weight. You see, I guess let me just back up a little bit, because I think so much of Program yourself, then what makes it so unique is that it's not just about telling you what to do. I think diets and the weight loss industry is just always telling you what to do, and then it's left up to you to get yourself to do it. And so you try and force yourself to do it with willpower. Program Yourself is really different because we figure out what to do. Okay? So it's not me telling you what to eat. It's us figuring. It's me kind of guiding you through a process to figure out what to eat that works for you. And then a big part of programming yourself is how to get yourself to do it, you know, how to follow it. And so we're always looking to both sides. I can't just give you a plan and say, do this. You're going to lose a bunch of weight because are you going to do it? You know, whether you're going to do it or not really comes down to how comfortable or difficult or easy it is for you. You see, and so structuring your reading, one of the core reasons we structure our reading is so that we can eat our first meal of the day, and it comfortably gets us to our second. We can eat our second meal today and comfortably gets to us our third, and then we're good. Now, again, that's relative. You might like to eat four meals a day, five meals a day, six meals a day. Everyone's a little different, right? So, again, it depends on how you want to structure things, but the basic idea stays the same, that we're looking to know that this first meal we're going to eat is going to support us to the next meal comfortably. You see? So a lot of times with dieting, they're not taking your hunger into account. You're just assuming I'm going to be starving, but I got to fight against the starvation in order to lose the weight. And so, because of diet marketing and diets, you subconsciously associate pain, misery and deprivation and difficulty to losing weight. But if you approach it differently, you can start structuring your eating not just to lose weight, but first in order to move through your day more comfortably so that you start to know, oh, if I eat this here, I know it comfortably gets me to here. If I eat this here, I comfortably get to the next thing and so on, as much as you need to do it. But dieters never take that part into account because dieters are just looking to cut as much as they can so they can lose as fast as they can. But again, dieting and weight loss is all about getting to your goal weight. Programming yourself then is about living at your goal weight. And again, in order to do that, it's. It's important that you have some structure. What's up, Lori? Lori says news on your shoulder. I missed it. Oh, my shoulder is great now. Yes. Last year, I don't know, you might have seen an old video or I might have been talking about it, but it's. It's about. It's been a little over a year. A year and a month. I got my shoulder surgery and boy, what a great decision. Oh, my. Look at this. It just. Oh, it's just. This is not lost on me because I lived with a screwy shoulder for three, four years. You know, what a dumbass. I. I feel stupid. I will say that's one thing I feel pretty dumb about. I. I did not have to live with that for so long, but absolutely, lesson learned. And that lesson is going to serve me well in life because I do not wait anymore. If something's not feeling right, I go right to the doctors. Let's go check it out. You know, because I could have skipped three years of. If I'd gotten this arm fixed earlier. But that's okay. I'm glad it's fixed now. So thankful. So, yes, thanks for asking. My. My shoulder is wonderful. All healed up. What's up? X? X says, I'm so excited about your book. Thank you. Yeah.
Oh, okay. Jody. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, you got an email from the design place. That's wicked cool. Yeah, I really appreciate everyone. Yeah. So I guess everyone. Yeah. And I. I so appreciate your. Your feedback. I really, I got a bunch of. So many people responded and it was really, really helpful. And it just made me feel so much better seeing. And especially because I know a lot of you. You put your names in and stuff. So I even got to see because I know, I know a lot of you and so it was really cool seeing what your thoughts were and which ones you liked and all the rest of it. And I really appreciate that. If I didn't choose your design, understand it was, it was so hard. I, I feel like really, I wouldn't say, I think I sent you all the eight, eight designs. I would say probably four of those. I was really like, I, I, anyway, with these would be amazing. So I apologize if I didn't pick yours. You know, I, I took, I wasn't even sure if I picked mine. You know what I mean? Like last night I was like, I might pick the other one. I don't know. I was like, am I just gonna pick it last minute? And I did, I did pick it last minute. I had like five minutes left to pick it and I was like, I just, I'm like, I. But I knew, I knew I was going to pick that one. I could feel it. I felt it deep down and it was hard. That was very interesting. Again, I was talking about this yesterday. I build so much of my life and I kind of live so much of my life around my subconscious mind. And what that means, I guess that's, it's, it means a bunch of different things. But one thing it means in this context is I really do pay attention on kind of gut level reactions, you know, And I, I truly am a big believer that I, I chose the COVID before I knew logically I chose it. You know, I was thinking that and I really didn't know which one I was going to pick. I had a sense and an idea, but I kind of flip flopped. Anyways, I'm glad, I'm glad they sent that to you. That's really cool. And yeah, I'm so happy they sent you all the designs because you all deserve to get to see what that design is going to be and hopefully the next couple of weeks. Here you have that book in your hand. I cannot wait for you to get it. Every time I read through this book, I'm so excited for you to get it. That's got to be a good sign. So I cannot wait. It's such a unique book. I really, I love it so much and I'll tell you why I love it. Just let me just share this real quick. I don't talk this book a lot, but I'm just so excited about it. I am not a poet at all. I've never been good at writing poetry. It's just not a thing I do. I'm a fine Writer. I'm not a writer by any means, although I have written a lot in my career. But I don't consider myself a great writer. Don't practice it. Love it. All the rest of it. I do consider myself a hypnotist. That's my core skill, I believe. And this book is so much fun to me because I wrote it. You know, I don't even know. Is the grammar all right? I don't. I don't know. You know what I mean? Like, it's right enough. You know what I mean? But. But is it. Does it follow traditional formatting? No, I don't think so. But that's why I like the poetic piece of it, because I can just kind of do what I want, and it allows me to communicate how I would communicate when I'm doing hypnosis sessions. And so, I don't know, like, I have a fun time reading it because there's so many suggestions in the book. I mean, again, the book really is hypnotic. Stories, metaphors, analogies, kind of putting this Eastern philosophy sort of tone and framework. And the goal, though, is that as you read the book, it helps you change. It changes you as you read it. That's the purpose of it. And I cannot wait to see what the feedback is from you all, because, again, I've read this book hundreds of times. I feel like, at this point, and I just love it. I think it's. It's so fun for me. So, anyways, enough of that. Let me get to your questions. I am here to answer your questions. I promise. I promise. Okay.
Nice. Laurie says, great, by the way. I'm 20 pounds from goal weight. Nice job, Lori. That's great. Laurie's killing it over there. Nice job. What's up, Melissa? How's it going?
Jen says, I like your top. Oh, thank you. Yeah, but this time this is freezing out. I don't know what happened. It's. Winter's here. Winter is here. So.
For real.
Eric says hello. Jim, is it true that after weight loss, our body will try to gain weight back to where it was before, or is it just because diet is not sustainable? It's a bit of both. You know, like your body has a homeostatic system. Right? So the two main things that affect your weight in your body is the homeostatic system and the hedonic system. And so the homeostatic system. Homeostatic is keeping things balanced. Right. And hedonic system is kind of your pleasure system. And so when it comes to the homeostatic system, yes, it will Fight to keep your body at the weight it considers to be its normal. And unfortunately, that normal is typically the higher it goes up. That's what it considers it. Because again, remember, your body evolved in a food scarce environment. So the more food, the more weight, the more calories, the better in that environment. You put that into today's modern environment with all these calories now, it's not so helpful. Okay? But yes, your body will fight for a little while to get that higher weight.
And so that's definitely a real thing and it's something we want to be ready for. And so that's a real thing. But then it's also a real thing too, that people's diets are really extreme and difficult to sustain and maintain long term too. That's, that's more true in my opinion. I think that's a bigger issue than the hormonal body system issues. And then there's also a psychological issue, which is that most people, dieters, will trade the pleasure and excitement for the food for the pleasure and excitement of the scale going down. And so as long as they're losing weight, they're still fired up and motivated. But the second they get to their goal weight, even there's, what are you looking forward to? I know dieters always say, well, I'll just look forward to, I'm just gonna be so happy. I'm at my goal with, I'm gonna be, you know, skipping through the life, never eating overeating or eating bad again. But that's not the reality of it. The reality is you get to your goal weight and it's awesome for a little while, then you normalize to it, get back to that hedonic system. The hedonic adaptation is what happens. It's kind of like when you get a new car, right? It's great for a while and then it becomes your car. And so the same thing happens with your body. And so if you don't have some motivation to manage your weight and eat healthy and live healthy, that goes beyond just losing weight. How are you going to maintain whatever plan you're following, whether it's hard or easy? And I find this psychologically, to me, this is the number one reason why people can't keep the weight off. Because their motivation, they have none. Once they get to their goal weight, their motivation just disappears. And that's what I find. The number one thing is, but all three are factors. But I think we want to deal with all of them. All right.
Have you got any other questions? Feel free to ask them. Sorry. Tick Tock, I'm getting over you now. This is live. I am here.
Sometimes I think should be Tick Tock on its own. Although Tick Tock, I don't know what the hell's going on. Tick Tock, they stop showing my videos and it's like, it's being kind of weird. I don't know.
Tick Tock needs to make their questions easier to find. What's up, Chell? Chill says your live post is great. It's right on evening meal time where I live. Perfect timing. Oh, yeah, sure. Yeah. Again, sometimes, you know, and that's such a great point because all of a sudden, like, you know, if you know me and you watch my stuff and all of a sudden you see my yapping mouth, you know, got to be thinking about your weight, right? And it's funny because as soon as you start thinking about your weight, you know, all of a sudden, you know, you tend to eat different. You know, you tend to do make different choices. So.
So that's great.
Jail says I've upped the fiber more fridge and fruit. I also made your salad bowls for lunch. Oh, great. Yeah. I'm also imagining this is my future eating pattern. That's great. Nice job, Chell. Yeah, that's perfect. That's the plan. Yeah. You all eat those salads. I eat. My God, you'll be shocked. You will be shocked. Those salads I have are just top notch. I should make new salad videos. I actually my salads are a little bit different. A little bit different. But yeah, the salad. I think salad for lunch is one of my greatest things I've ever done with my eating plan. You know, I would say.
Sherry says, jim, as a teacher, I will tell you that in writing, hearing the writer's voice is so much more important than strictly adhering to grammar rules. Voice is key to reaching your readers. I appreciate that, Sherry. And I believe it a thousand percent.
And so, yeah, I, I, I totally believe that. And I gotta be honest, it was, it's really like this book is fun to me because I just, it's just, it's my own rules. I don't know. Like, it's not like I said, I, I'm not, I don't write poetry, so I don't know the rules of writing poetry. I, I just assume, I like to think. What I do know is that with poetry there can be no rules in a sense, you know, So I like, I like that freedom. And I use that. Not that it's all crazy. I'm not sitting here saying, you're all gonna have struggling with it. But, but I, I there could be grammatical. It's just laid out kind of interestingly, I think. And it's based on nothing other than just what I think looks cool.
But whatever. The content's good, so I know the content's good. I, I, I hope. No, I know it is. And I know, I know all of you in the program are gonna love it, and I think a lot of you are gonna love it because I think it really is a different perspective on things. And yeah, I can't wait. Can't wait. Lucy says help can't stop overeating. All right, well, when I get something like this, you know, I always start with the same place when I get kind of a big vague issue like I can't stop overeating that is so big and vague that you're never going to be able to get very far with that. Right. You're not gonna be able to figure it out too much because that's such a big, vague description of a problem. You know, it's like saying, I'm struggling my weight. Well, how so? You know, I mean, like. And so it's the same thing with the overeating, Lucy. So the first thing I'd want to do is I want to get more specific. Right. So when you look at all of your overeating that you do over a typical week, let's say, which overeating is the most problematic, do you think? Right. So out of all the overeating, you typically do. Right. Because we always, we all eat in patterns. And so out of the typical overeating you do on a typical week, which overeating habit in that week is the biggest issue. And so Lucy says I have a huge appetite. Yeah. But still, that's not where I would start because even I have a huge appetite means nothing. It means nothing. I used to have a huge appetite. So having a huge appetite is not the core problem. I can tell you, I will tell you for a fact that part of your core problem is that you have no structure to your eating. I can almost guarantee it. Meaning you don't have healthy, nourishing foods that you're getting into your body in a strategic way consistently, your eating's probably just all over the place based on when you're hungry, what's around what you can eat, and all that. And so that's why I would suggest I go back to the overeating and me personally, I would look at where in a typical week, what is the most problematic overeating habit. It might be snacking at night, overeating at dinner, grazing during the day, whatever it may be. And then I would start to focus in on that behavior, making it better, working to improve it. Because you're not just going to, like, fix your overeating. You know what I mean? Like, please understand this, folks, because this is part of the dieting problem, is that you. You frame your problems in such a huge way. I'm an overeater. Okay, so. So what's the solution? It's such a big. That's such a big chunk of thing, right? You make over 200 food decisions a day, right? You eat every day, multiple times, every single day of your life. I'm an overeater. So what? So you get. Monday's going to come and you're not going to be an overeater anymore. That's not how things work. Fine, you're an overeater. Let's break it down into smaller pieces and go to work on those. Oh, my. Nighttime snacking. That's the biggest problem right now. Okay, well, let me go to work on that. That was my first issue, is that's the first thing I worked on was night. Night snacking. And I snacked every night, seven days a week. I would snack every single night. And so I spent months and months and months working on my nighttime eating. Different strategies, different things, playing with my mind, doing different stuff. And I ultimately figured out a plan that really worked for me and was comfortable and really resonated with me. And now here I am 30 years later.
And I don't eat at night at all. You know what I mean? So if we can stop thinking like, oh, Monday's gonna be here and I'm not gonna eat ever again, you know, Instead we start being more strategic with it as we move forward with it. Lucy says, if it's a food I like, I don't know when to stop because don't feel full like pasta. I can keep going. Yeah, but Lucy. Fine, that's fine. A lot of people feel that way. But again, you need to narrow it down. So fine. If pasta is your biggest issue, do you see what I'm saying? Because you can't just be like, oh, I got to stop overeating, that you dieters can't do that. And you think you can. You think you can just say, oh, yeah, tomorrow's Monday. I'm going to stop overeating. No, you can't. You can't do that. It's too much. It's like if I never played Piano. And I said, oh, tomorrow I'm going to be a piano player. No, you're not. You can start practicing chords or scales or learning songs. You can practice something smaller and then build up that skill and become a piano player. But you can't just become one. And so it's same for you, Lucy. So if it's a food I like, I don't know when to stop because I don't feel like. Like a full. Like pasta. I can keep going. Fine. Maybe pasta is your. Your again, program yourself. Then we start with your worst eating habit, your worst, you know, kind of food, maybe, Right, but again, they're related, right? Because if it's pasta for you, for example, Lucy, right, let's just say pasta. I eat pasta. And I used to do this. I eat pasta seven nights a week. My mom ate pasta every single dinner, sometimes multiple pastas. So that was a challenge for me eventually as well, is dealing with pasta at dinner time, you know, and dialing that down. But we can't change everything all at once. So to you, Lucy, I would suggest, let's just say it's pasta, for example. So you start focusing on pasta, and you bring more intention into pasta. And you say, when I eat pasta, I have a real hard time stopping at the right point. And so you start paying attention to that next time you have pasta. You notice how much pasta I typically eat? What's my pattern? How much do I put on my plate? How fast do I eat it? How do I eat it? What do I. How hungry and when I start eating, how aware and kind of grounded am I when I start eating and you start working on these things, you can get better at eating pasta. I promise you. Anyone can get better at anything if you practice it strategically.
You know, so if you work on that, Lucy, though, you can get better at it, but you got to break it down, right? Because you look at how you started this, you're like, oh, I can't help me. I can't stop overeating. And. And you can stop overeating, too, by the way. What if I said, lucy, if you don't overeat pasta, you have to eat pasta every day, every day for dinner. And if you don't overeat it any of the days, I got a million dollars for you in a briefcase, would you be able to. To eat it? Right? You know, so. So cant is a funny word a lot of times as well. You know.
Sarah says water fasting had. Helping me so much. Has been helping you so much. That's Great. But again, you know, most of the time, water fasting is helping people lose weight for a little while. And I very rarely find people water fasting for years and years and years and years. I'm not saying it can't happen because there's always outliers, but for the vast majority of people I know, water fasting is unsustainable. So, again, I'm happy for you, Sarah. That's great. And don't list. Don't let me make it negative. But at the same time, if you start to feel wobbly with the water fasting, you know, understand that. That there's other strategies and solutions you can use as well. But if it's working for you and you love it, that's great too. Shab says, thank you. Your hypnosis helped me to complete four weeks on a changed mindset to lose weight. Great job, Shabs. Nice job. Yeah, the hypnosis session is great, folks. So again, go get that. It's. Click the link in my bio. If you're on Facebook. I'll put it. Put the link in here. You can go to this link I'm putting in the comments.
And.
Oh.
That'S the wrong link.
I gotta type it all out again. I should just put this up somewhere and just copy and paste it. But I was saying this yesterday. My cognitive. I'm at the edge of my cognitive load. I am telling you that. I'll tell you, like, once I picked that cover, I was like, oh, thank God. That book cover was really, really, really using up a lot of resources in the background. Holy. So it was quite a. Oh, just do it. I felt bad too, though. I felt bad not picking. I feel bad for people that do work, and I'm not picking their work. I feel terrible about that. But anyways, I think we got the right one, so.
But anyways, it's nice. It's nice freeing up that extra energy. And.
I do sometimes. I probably have a second job. I never talk about that. But that. That thing's been going crazy too, and that's common. Down bookworm says, Jimmy, did you write a cookbook? That's funny. My cookbook would be the worst cookbook. I'm not gonna lie. I. I have very intentional. I love cooking and I love food.
But that being said, I'm also pretty lazy with the food, you know, So I will say one of my superpowers. I can eat the same thing over and over again. I don't. I don't mind. And I've built a lot of my success around that strength that I have. So my cookbook would probably be. Not one that wouldn't want. But on that front, what I am going to start doing is I am going to start making more content with recipes and cooking videos. Like I said, I got a bunch of cool stuff coming. I. I really. I know I say that all the time, but I do, right? This book coming is awesome. So I'm delivering. This book's awesome. I. I think you're really all gonna like it. I. I don't know. You know, it's like, I will say this is the first, like, book I've written, and it's very funny.
Because I don't know what to expect in terms of what people will think or how popular it'll be or whatever. I don't care. This really was a passion project, but. But it is funny. I don't. I don't know what a book does. I've never written a book, so it's. It's interesting putting it out there. But, yeah, cookbook, that'd be funny. I don't even want my cookbook.
Lana says when I have a stressful day or feel very tired, I overeat. Okay, Lana, great. That's. It's great to have awareness of that. Right? That's where we always start, is awareness is the first step. And so now you realize when you get stressed or you're feeling tired, you tend to go to the food. And the reason you do that is because going to the food when you're tired or stressed is your best strategy at the moment. The best strategy you have to feel better when you're tired or stressed is food. And it's not unusual, because in this culture, we all have been conditioned to use food as our main emotional management strategy. We've been taught to use food to deal with when we feel down and to celebrate when we feel up. So we constantly think about food, no matter what emotional state we get in, typically. So learning to manage your emotions genuinely is at the core of programming yourself then. And so what you realize is, okay, when I have a stressful day or when I'm tired, basically the only strategy I really got on deck is to eat. So we take a step back and we say, okay, when I'm stressed or tired, how do I want to feel more relaxed or energized? Okay. And now we start asking the question, what are some ways that I can feel more relaxed and energized when I feel stressed or tired? And you start coming up with ideas ahead of time because you're not just going to spontaneously think them in the moment, you know, so you want to start thinking, what else could I do when I get stressed and tired? And you want to think in context, what are some situations where you get tired or stressed, you get home from a long day at work, Right? Might be both. And so you want to think, okay, when I get home at work or I get home from work, what's something else I can do? And once you start thinking about this question, you start coming up with ideas. Maybe you go for a walk, maybe you take a quick nap, maybe you'll watch TV for a little bit, maybe you'll scroll for a little while, maybe read a book. Maybe maybe you'll call a friend, who knows, right? Everyone's different. So if you start asking the question, what can I do when I start to feel stressful and tired in order to feel more relaxed and calm and energized, what are some other things I can do that, I mean, that's to do with food? And eventually you're going to figure out the right solution that really works for you. And now what's going to happen is when you get stressed or tired, you're going to have two options. You'll have eating food, which makes you feel better for a second, and it makes you feel more stressed and more tired. And then you'll have your good options that help you feel less stressed and tired and make you feel good because you ate well, you know, it didn't affect your eating as well. So hopefully that helps you.
All right, there it is. Bookworm says great salad recipes would all be so awesome too. Oh, yeah. Well, I'll tell you my salad recipes. Basically, you know, it's like a green base, usually mixed greens, super greens, spinach, arugula, baby kale.
Romaines, red leaf, lettuce, you know, whatever the lettuces, that's the base. And then I will usually put, almost always have carrots, but then it's, you know, some mixture as well of celery, radishes, peppers, onions. You do put some homemade croutons in there sometimes I'll put some high quality blue cheese crumbles in there a little bit, some egg whites.
Walnuts, tomatoes.
Broccoli, sometimes. And I would say that's the core. And then it kind of rotates. And sometimes I find some other vegetables, I'll pop them in there. So they all kind of revolve around that. Basically they'll kind of in that similar ballpark. So. All right, everyone, we get out of here. Thank you so much. For your questions, your comments. I really appreciate them. If you enjoy this and you want more, I would suggest that you go get the hypnosis session I give you. It is at program yourself. Or you can click the link in my bio and go get it. And if you like this, I'm here every Monday through Friday. You can pop in here and ask whatever questions you have. I'm happy to speak with you, answer you, help you if I can. And if you do like this and you can't make the lives, you can listen to this as a podcast. It is a podcast I put up every day. You can go to any podcast platform, search program yourself then, and it'll pop up and you can listen whenever you like. All right. So have a super duper day and we'll talk soon. Bye.
