Hey everyone, welcome to today's program, Yourself Thin podcast. Today we're talking about why you can't change immediately. No, you can't change immediately. I'm sorry to disappoint you, but you got to recognize this. Just like you can't become a great piano player immediately, you can't become a great golfer immediately, you can't become a great artist immediately. You can commit to walking that path and eventually one day becoming great at those things if you commit and you give it the time and energy required to get good at something. But no, you can't just change immediately. And this is the bullshit lie that dieting has sold you your entire life, that you can just completely change in one day. And you cannot. You cannot. You can attempt, you can force yourself to make all the right choices for a couple of days or a couple of weeks, but you can't just change immediately. Change requires time, just like you can't plant a tomato seed and pick tomatoes tomorrow. You just can't. There are laws of nature, uh, that are at play here. And changing your behavior, changing your weight, changing who you are is the same thing. It requires a timeline that cannot just happen in a moment. And instead of this being disappointing to you, I hope it's the beginning of you feeling a lot better because you have been approaching your weight with completely the wrong expectation. It would be the equivalent that if you were told that, yes, plant this tomato seed tomorrow and tomorrow you will be picking beautiful full-grown tomatoes. Well, if that's what you were told and you go and plant the seed and the next day there's nothing there, you would feel really disappointed. It didn't work. Oh, well, no, it worked. It just didn't work on the timeline that you thought it was going to work. But if you believed it was going to happen tomorrow and then you wake up tomorrow and it didn't happen, what you're going to believe is that this doesn't work. I can't do this. And the truth is it absolutely works. You just have to exist within a different timescale. You have to give yourself some space and some time between planting the seed and picking the fruit. And it's no different with your weight. It's a longer term process. And don't freak out about that. When you went to college or you did some trainings in your life, they took a while to do them, but you did them. And again, you did that because you were operating in a longer time frame where you recognize that I'm going to first apply to schools, that I'm going to choose a school, that I'm going to commit to a school for 2, 4, 6, 8 years so that I can get the degree that I want. So you had a much longer time frame in your mind when you approach college or training or other things in your life that required it. Well, your weight's no different, and the time frame really dictates how you feel within it, because dieting has conditioned you that you can change everything starting Monday. Everything. And that's how you approach it. You try and change 100% of your eating, and it doesn't work. And then you say, I'm not working, something's wrong with me. Nothing's wrong with you. You just didn't give it the right time frame. So once you extend your time frame, you realize that you can get incredible results and that the results you truly want anyways take longer to achieve. Now, if you approach your weight this way, the first thing I want you to recognize is that because I could feel you pushing back against that, because of course you want instant results. But my big question to you is this: how long do you want to lose the weight for? How long would you like to be at your goal weight? And most likely you're saying forever. I want to live at my goal weight forever. Okay. So if you're saying I want to live at my goal weight forever, then what is your rush? Why are you existing in a timeframe this big for something you want to achieve that lives in a timeframe this big? It makes no sense. It would be like signing up for college and saying, okay, I'll get my degree as fast as I can. Well, no, that's not how this works. You know, it's broken up into pieces and it takes time. This is what you have to do. So if you start to approach your weight that way, you give yourself the time it requires, you understand that no change is immediate, then you can start to break your weight loss approach up into pieces and start to approach it systematically and strategically so that it's not this overwhelming experience where every time you try to lose weight, you try and change everything about yourself all at once, which leads you to feel overwhelmed and exhausted and frustrated and annoyed. And that's how you— what you associate to weight loss at this point. It's a net positive. I mean, it's a net pain for you in your life. And so once you start to expand the time frame, I think you give yourself the space necessary to not only get better results, but to get them in a more comfortable, enjoyable way. So I hope you give this some, some thoughts. And if you want to go deeper into this approach, click the link in my bio or go to programyourselfthin.com and go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. It's called The New Thin Me, and it is designed to help kickstart your weight loss in a way that is more comfortable, more enjoyable, and sets you up for the long term. to be successful the way you want to. So again, you can, uh, click my link in the bio, or you can go to programyourselfthin.com. Uh, if you're on TikTok, you can click my picture there and go to my bio. If you're on Facebook, uh, or YouTube, I will give you the link. I'll put it in the chat. Right off the bat, I see Pam Adams saying delete, and now I'm thinking, if I'm not mistaken, I think I see Pam say this before. So now I'm thinking she wants to delete me. That's so funny. That's the social algorithms, right? Sometimes you just land on something and then you just get a steady diet of that for days or weeks even though you don't want to watch it. We can all relate. Uh, but I hope everyone's having a nice day. Yes, you can hear me. I'm still working on my cold. It's getting better, I promise you. I feel like I sound as bad as I have the entire time, but I promise you I'm feeling better and I'm looking forward to this weekend. Hopefully mending up 100% or somewhere close to that. And I hope you are all having a nice week and weekend as well. I know this time of year is a funny one, you know. I know people— it's weird— people are getting ready to start focusing on their weight because the weather's starting to break, you know what I mean? You're starting to feel better. Most the holidays are past us. Easter's in the rearview mirror. And so a lot of people, you know, looking forward to getting back on track. And, uh, I hope that's you. And if you have any questions about your weight, feel free to ask them. I, uh, I get on here every day— well, every weekday, Monday through Friday. I am here to answer any questions you may have. Um, certainly I am the creator of Program Yourself Thin, and this is the blueprint in the program. There it is. So you can see that. And oh, but you know what, TikTok, that was reversed to you. So let's fix that. There we go. Yes, that is the Blueprint, 144 pages of solid gold here. And also the author of this book. I mean, that one's a book too, but this one you can just go and buy. The other one's for people in the program. But this is the book I've written as well, The Tao of Living at Your Goal Weight. And the main thing I want to point out is that it's about living at your goal weight. That's what you really want. So it's important to make that distinction. And I make it because weight loss is not really the goal. The real goal is to live at your goal weight. So that is the focus. But yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I work with people that do every diet. I work with people doing keto, Weight Watchers, carnivore, vegan, Mediterranean, intermittent fasting, all of them. And at the end of the day, they are all similar in the sense that they all have a similar mindset. Most people approach any one of those diets with the same mindset, which is a diet mindset where you're going to change your behavior 100% in one day. And that's kind of the expectation when you diet, regardless of which diet it is. The idea is that you're going to change your behavior all at once, 100%. In one day. I'm gonna wake up Monday and I'm gonna eat no carbs. I'm gonna eat no sugar, no desserts, no more than 1,000 calories, no more than 8 hours. It doesn't matter. And so people really associate with their weight loss this extreme overwhelming approach. That's what unifies all diets regardless of the specific strategies and tactics and philosophy is that you're gonna do it 100%. And it's overwhelming. And you feel that now. I mean, most of my clients are usually, you know, 45 plus. And by the time you get to 40, 45 plus, you have tried so many diets, you have tried so many times to change your weight that you now have the belief that you can't do it, that it just doesn't work. And so most of the time my clients are in their 40s or above, and they get to a point where they can't even get themselves motivated to start losing weight. And there's a good reason for this. If you look at it, you know, in a slightly different way, that part of you that's preventing you from starting another diet is really looking to protect you. It's looking to protect you from more difficulty and disappointment. And so I believe the solution to getting control of your weight once and for all is to stop dieting. Never diet again. And in place of dieting, you start to make small, strategic, systematic shifts to your behaviors. Specifically your eating behaviors, your lifestyle behaviors, and how you think. And as you shift up those behaviors and how you think, everything starts to change, but it changes in a way that's comfortable. And that's what most of you have never had any experience with, is comfortable weight loss. What a crazy idea. Imagine weight loss wasn't overwhelming and stressful and miserable and boring. And hard and difficult. Imagine if weight loss was easy and relaxing. What? I just got restricted. I don't know why. Oh, because I talk about weight loss. TikTok's so funny. I don't know why. They're just so, so, uh, arbitrary with what they restrict for. But regardless, right, again, the main idea is that if you start to approach your weight loss specifically looking for a way to do it that's not overwhelming that is comfortable. It's a game changer because you've never done that. The diet industry has conditioned you to just expect and assume that weight loss has to be really, really difficult. And it does not. It absolutely does not. It's just that we've been trained to think that way. I'm not saying it's easy, right? And anything that's worthwhile takes effort and work, but it doesn't have to be overwhelming. I always use the example, you you know, it's kind of like if you want to learn to play the piano and like the only way you've ever learned how to play the piano is you have to practice 8 hours a day. Well, then anytime you go to learn the piano, you're gonna overwhelm yourself, right? You may be able to get through a day or a couple days, but you really are stacking the deck against you with that approach. So again, I think a better strategy to learn the piano would be to practice 15 minutes a day for a long time though, right? And I think that if you use that approach with your weight, it, really transforms it almost instantaneously, right from the first day. And that's how you know if you're doing things right or wrong. Uh, if you're resisting your weight loss, you know you're probably doing something a little off. If you're approaching it and excited about it and curious about it, then you're probably doing something right. That's what I would say. What's up, Jane? Jane says, hi Jim, glad to see you here today. PYT has become an important part of my day. I watch this in the morning and listen to the hypnosis sessions at morning and night. Great job, Jane. Yeah, I'm proud of you. Um, and that's the resilience, you know, that's the effort and the action taken over time that really makes the difference. You know, it's just like your teeth, you know, you can't just really clean the shit out of your teeth one day and be like, all right, I'm all done. No, you've got to commit to a long-term small commitment to brushing your teeth every day to get the benefits of it. And it's no different with programming yourself then. So you're doing it right, Jane. And as you. Again, what you're finding, one of the reasons you're able to do that, Jane, it's not overwhelming. It's not overwhelming, um, to you the way that previous dieting has been. And so you're able to engage with it more, right? PYT has become something enjoyable, interesting. You're curious about it. You want to listen to it. You want to hear the sessions. Think about that core difference, Jane, right? That you want to engage with PYT. It's enjoyable. As opposed to previous diet approaches where it was miserable and you didn't want to do it and you kind of avoided it. I don't want to. Okay, I got to do it now, right? And that's what most dieters do. They have to get their pain way up here in order to finally kick themselves into doing the thing they don't want to do, whichever diet it is for you, you know. Yeah, Jane says, true, it's not overwhelming and I love talking to Jim AI. Yeah, Jim AI is the shit. That's just the extra bonus in the program. A powerful one though. So use it, folks. Use it, use it, use it. And especially use it when you're in the program, because I will tell you, unfortunately, one thing that is going to change is that Gym AI has been, um, kind of just in there for everyone to use for as long as possible. But unfortunately, that's going to become something that is there for, um, the 8 weeks that you're in the program. And it's just a financial thing. You'll have an opportunity to still engage with it. It will be in the Thrive program, but I'm just letting you all know that. So if you're outside of the 8 weeks, use it up now. It's not, it's not getting taken out immediately, but within the next couple of weeks, it will be. And I'm sorry to do that. But again, it's just purely a financial thing. It costs money to do. Jim AI is not free, as you can imagine, folks. To clone yourself with an AI bot that's trained on 10 million of your words and sounds just like you that you can talk to 24 hours a day. As you can imagine, right? Not, not a, not, not a cheap undertaking. So anyways, but yes, that is something that's included in the program, um, currently. But again, uh, it'll always be there for the first 8 weeks people are in the program, and then, um, it'll move on. But it will be in the Thrive version, so I will let you all know that. Yeah, sorry, Jane. I know it's just, uh, yeah, the numbers, the numbers. Yeah, it's okay. It's gonna cost me a lot of money, you know. So, uh, like I said, it's a pretty sophisticated and advanced tool, right? If you think about it, that alone is just so powerful. But again, I mean, honestly, the Thrive program is something, um, people should be considered anyways if you're through the program and enjoyed it. But, um, what's up, Sue? Sue says, 12 pounds down, very slow, but the calmness around food that I have learned from you is great. That's wonderful, Sue, nice job. Um, and very slow is great. We want slow weight loss. Weight loss that happens slowly tends to last longly. I don't know if that's a word, but you know what I mean. Um, slower weight loss tends to last longer, uh, because when you do it slower, you usually do it more comfortably. You're usually doing it in a way that's just sustainable. It's not that difficult, not overwhelming. So, um, yeah, that's great job, Sue. I'm proud of you. And again, the calmness around food is really something that really needs to be celebrated because again, with dieting, there's no calmness around food. You're cranking up the stress and the tension around food. And so Program Yourself then very, very intentionally is looking to create a more calm, grounded, peaceful relationship with food. And that's one of the primary foundational things we're looking to do, because when you feel more relaxed and calm, with your food, you just tend to make better choices. You tend to think more clearly, and controlling your weight becomes a lot easier. So that's, that's a huge deal, Sue. And you're doing something at a foundational level. Remember that too, because, yeah, it may feel like it's a little bit slower, but it's so much more solid. You're really grounding yourself in a completely different way of being with food, and that never goes away. Okay, that's not like dieting where you're forcing yourself to doing something. This becomes a completely different way to conceptualize, think about food and feel about it, and then act with it. So you're doing real deep, deep work here, Sue, that tends to last, um, way longer than any diet that you may have ever done. Right. Um, Deborah Barbara says mine is so slow, it's practically nonexistent. Um, Yeah, but what's that mean? I never believe anyone when they say mine's so slow, it's practically non-existent because I don't know what that means. Does that mean 1 pound a year? 1 pound a month? 1 pound a week? People really have wildly different expectations and ideas of what is slow and what is fast. I will tell you that. Um, but again, Program Yourself In too. Sometimes the weight loss seems a bit slower than diets because diets are really just designed to give you a quick boost of weight loss. That's unsustainable. Real solid weight transformation so that you can live at your goal weight tends to look a little different. And while it may seem a little slower in the beginning, as you zoom out and look at the big picture, you realize, wow, it was a little bit slower in the beginning compared to some crazy shit like keto or, you know, intermittent fasting or the other stuff. Wow. Over the year, it really showed up differently, which is one of my favorite quotes in the world, is that One of my favorite quotes in the world is that most people assume they can lose more weight— what am I saying? My head is out to lunch. Um, most, most people overestimate how much weight they can lose in a month and underestimate how much weight they can lose in a year, and that really sets them up for failure. Of Okay. And I'll, to prove the point, here's Barbara. Mine is so slow. It's practically nonexistent. She says, that's what Barbara says. Barbara trying to trigger me on a Friday, then follows it up by saying I've lost almost 30 pounds, but it's taken me 3 years. Who gives a shit if it's taken you 3 years? The other way to look at it is that you've maintained a 30-pound weight loss for 3 years. That puts you in like 0.1% of people that lose weight. In terms of success. This is what I mean, and this is why I push back on that, Barbara. Oh, now it's 4 pounds off, 4 pounds on. Oh, I got you, I got you, Barbara. Yeah, but who gives a shit? You're learning to maintain. That's how I look at that. People are like, oh, 4 pounds on, 4 pounds off. Yeah, you're maintaining a 30-pound weight loss. That literally puts you into— it's estimated that 85 to 95% of dieters that lose weight put it back on within 2 years, by the way. So right off the bat, you're in the 5 to 15% range just from that number. And the fact that you're into 3 years puts you in the 1 to 5% range of all dieters successful. So it's funny how you look at it, isn't it, Barbara? It's, oh my God, it's so slow. It's so slow. Yeah. Okay. How many of you out there have maintained a 30-pound weight loss for over 3 years? Yeah, no one, virtually no one. So you know what I mean? Like, this is what I mean. The diet industry has us so screwed up that even when we get the success that we truly want, it still feels like failure. It still feels like it's so slow I can't even stand it. But great job, Barbara. I'm proud of you. I'm not busting your chops. I'm busting them a little bit because, again, update that mindset. Congratulations. 3 years ago you would have never believed that you could have been 3 years from now, 30 pounds lighter, living 30 pounds lighter. And so what if another 3 years you're not— I don't know what your weight loss goals are, but congratulations. But celebrate your win. You've succeeded already. And again, I don't know what your ultimate goals are, but, um, don't talk about it like mine's so slow, it's practically nonexistent. I know you're kind of joking, but don't, don't joke about that. You've done something monumental. And you're minimizing it. Don't do that. What's up, Michelle? Michelle says, great day in Cabo. I gave myself permission to consume whatever and as much as I feel I need. Amazingly, I still ordered the salad and shrimp cocktail versus the heavy lobster dishes I always order, but this time I just didn't want to. It didn't sound as good as the salad. So grateful for those 3 days of PYT. I got them before the cruise. Not saying all my choices were that good yesterday, and that's okay. I did the redo before bed and woke up feeling successful, even though the scale may not say that right now. Great job, Michelle. I'm so proud of you. Michelle's one of my favorite stories because I, I, what I love about Michelle is she got the program 3 days before she went, was going on a cruise. And this is what I'm talking about. I always joke, Program Yourself Thin is the only program you'd ever start on a Friday. It's the only program you'd ever start. It's the only weight loss program you'd ever start 3 days before a cruise. But that's why Michelle thinks different than the average dieter. And I'm so proud of you for taking action, Michelle. And now here you are experiencing how a vacation can be different, still enjoyable, and still healthier. Huh? Who said that was possible? We didn't know that was possible, right? We thought if we went on vacation, we either had to be eating perfect or just not thinking about food at all. But here's Michelle proving to you and showing you that when you start to think different, you start to behave different in comfortable ways. You have to change everything. Only just a little bit healthier, a little bit better decision here. And you feel better, Michelle. That's the key thing. Remember that is this is probably one of the most pleasurable, enjoyable vacations ever because there's more balance to it. I'm so proud of you. That's a great job. Yeah. And when the program— when you get back, program's waiting for you and you're ready to go. So that's such a big deal. And you're really proving something to yourself so powerful here, Michelle, because right off the beginning, you're really proving to yourself that all-or-something mindset works. Because you're living it this week. You're living the something piece, right? You're on a vacation in Cabo. And even though you're on a vacation in Cabo, you're enjoying yourself, but you're not going crazy with it. You're living in that sweet spot. That, to me, is the most pleasurable way to live. So super proud of you, Michelle. And I'm glad— I appreciate the updates, too. That's wonderful. And again, I think it's just an example of what you can expect when you approach your weight differently. It doesn't have to be this miserable white-knuckle all-or-nothing depriving miserable affair. It can be enjoyable, it can be fun, right? Michelle's proven that in the best way possible. Yeah, Michelle says, I feel amazing on this vacation. I bet you do. I know you do, because this is something I've seen so many times with my clients, is the funny part is that their vacations get way better, right? Because you think that— most dieters think that their pleasure is directly related to how much they can eat. And program yourself. Then we figure out and learn that no, the highest level of pleasure is when you can eat the things you like moderately at your goal weight, or as the best version of you as you're getting there. That's the sweet spot. When you start to live from that space again, it's very powerful and it creates pretty, pretty amazing changes, you know, within you. So that's super, Michelle. Great job. Keep it up. Keep it up and enjoy your vacation. That's awesome. Wish I was in Cabo. I gotta be honest, it feels like Cabo here today. It is— what is the temperature? Oh, it's 51. That's a little cool, but, um, 51. Oh my God, it's blue sky day. It's so beautiful out. Life is good. It is nice. It's nice to have some nice weather, and, um, I, I'm enjoying it. So yes, um, but you know what, I'm gonna go enjoy right now. I'm gonna get out of here anyways. I got a lot of stuff to do, a lot of cool things coming up. So, uh, keep your eye on your inboxes. Um, got a special offer going out this week for Program Yourself Thin, so keep an eye on that. Um, if you've been thinking about getting to the program, uh, you'll get some information on that. And, uh, if you're not in my world, please click the link in my bio or go to programyourselfthin.com. I'll put it back in the chat window there. Go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. It's awesome. Okay, it's there for you. I made a training for you. I got a bunch of free stuff for you. Let's go check that out. Uh, if you like this, I'm here every Monday through Friday, happy to help you all out. This is a mission for me. I'm here every Monday through Friday to answer any questions you have, coach you along, do what I can to help you. And if you can't make the live, it's also a podcast. Everything in this book is going to help you think differently about your weight. So go check that out. And, uh, have a super weekend. All right, have a nice weekend, everyone. We'll see you next week. Bye.
