Program Yourself Thin Live 7-20-26

Jim Katsoulis argues that picking and eating fresh produce directly reconnects your body to natural eating patterns and regulates appetite. He emphasizes weight loss depends on reprogramming your subconscious through self-talk and habit formation, not willpower alone. He shares experiences with CSA farms and pick-your-own operations as practical tools for mindset-based weight management.

Shit. Hey everyone, welcome to today's program, Yourself Thin podcast. Today we're talking about picking fruit in order to lose weight. I know it may sound strange, but I'm here to remind you and encourage you and inspire you if you've never done it to go and pick some fruit, right? Here we are in the summer and there's good food all around. And there's something special about going to a blueberry patch, a strawberry patch, a raspberry patch, an apple patch, a vegetable patch, really doesn't matter. Um, and going picking some food and eating it. There's just something magical to it. I'm inspired because I've I've been doing a lot of that this year. And every time I do it, I am reprogrammed at such a deep level and reminded of what it truly means to eat. I think we can go our whole lives and forget why we're eating. And the reason we're eating is to nourish our bodies, to give our bodies what they need. And nothing gives your body more of what it needs than food that was just picked and just eaten. There's something magical to it. Call me weird. I don't care. It's like the life force of it. I don't know. It's being outside. I don't know what exactly it is, but there is something fundamentally different in your body when you eat this food that you just picked. I don't know. You'll have to go experiment for yourself and see if it's true for you too. But for me, it absolutely is. And what this does is eating the fresh food is it is okay. So I picked some blueberries. That's going to change my life. Well, it can be the start of that because We eat the berries, the fresh vegetables, the fresh food that we just picked in order to remind our body what real eating feels like. That's real eating. It's as real as it gets. That's how we ate for millions of years. We picked something, we ate it. And now we live where food was picked or prepared or processed, and then we eat it somewhere way down the line. And that life force piece of it's disappeared. That direct connection to the food source and then putting in our body has disappeared. And it's caused our body to evolve and program in an odd way. That's the only way I can put it. And even if you get a little bowl of blueberries that you just picked and you eat them, it does something for a little while. There's a little window opens up and it reminds your body of what eating whole natural foods in a natural way feels like. And it's inspiring. It's inspiring. That's all— only way I can put it. So don't overlook it. Don't minimize it. Don't do it and then be like, I don't feel anything different. Do it and spend a little bit of time quietly with yourself. Do it and then just sit in a chair and just notice how you feel. And a lot of times what you're feeling is that life force. And again, I'm not sure if it's just what's in the food so quickly eating it, or it's also the experience of being out there, seeing where it's grown, being with the bugs and eating as well. I don't know. Maybe it's all of it. But what it does is it reinforces the eating that makes it a lot easier to manage your weight. And that eating is when you are eating more and more whole natural foods. You don't have to only eat whole natural foods, but the more whole natural foods you start weaving into your diet, you start to have more control over your weight typically because it calms you down, it relaxes you, it nourishes you, and it helps you to see things clearer. And that supports you in making better food decisions and choices as you move forward. And one of the best ways I can think of to do it, in so many different ways, is to go out and pick some food. Pick some food and eat it that day, that moment, that night, and see if what I'm saying is true for you as well. And if you want to go deeper into this mindset that makes this possible all the time, click the link in my bio and go get the free hypnosis session that I made for you. It's called The New Thin Me, and it is ready for you. And on top of that, I just created a new training called Reprogrammed, and you'll get that as well once you opt in there. So go check that out. And if you are on Facebook or YouTube, I'll put the link up in the screen there. And then in there it is. And yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and are ready to have a great week coming up. Uh, there it is. What's up, Carolyn? Karen said, yep, so great blueberries are incredible. My mother picked at 90. Oh, that's great. Yeah, yeah, I'm planting blueberry bushes. I don't care. I went and got blueberries yesterday and we are smack dab in the middle of blueberry picking season. So, um, I will tell you, and I don't know if they have this around you, this has been one of the greatest things ever for me is I'm part of a It's called different things. Some people call it a farm share. Uh, the place I'm at, it's a CSA, community supported agriculture. And basically what happens is you, you give them some money at the beginning of the year and every week you get to go pick up food, you know? So every week I'm getting vegetables and greens and whatever they're growing on the farm. But with that also includes pick your own. So they got pick your own strawberries. We already did. They got pick your own beans, uh, pick your own blueberries right now. I went to another place and pick your own raspberries and black raspberries. That was pretty cool. Um, yeah, once we get past the blueberries, it kind of slows down a little bit in terms of pick your own, but there'll still be tomatoes coming up. I can't wait for that. Um, all different types of string beans, pea pods, all that stuff. So yeah, anyways, it's, uh, I don't know, it's just one of those things. I just want to sell it to you because it's not just— I don't know, it's a whole experience that I think is so worth it to get out there and eat that food. Apples are one of my favorite ones to do that as well. Get out and go apple picking. But the more you get out in nature, the more that you, um, you know, kind of eat these foods in a natural way. I think that's some of the most powerful programming you can do to yourself to really reinforce in your mind and your body just how amazing it feels to eat whole natural foods. Right? So again, this is the positive side of race. I think sometimes people guilt themselves and shame themselves into eating something healthy. But what I'm trying to tell you is let all that go. You don't have to only eat healthy, but if you make it a point to eat something really healthy, enjoy it. And don't just enjoy that you might lose weight. Enjoy the experience, the flavor, the taste, you know, the experience. If you go pick it yourself and notice what that does to you, it's a completely different paradigm of food than most of us have ever grown up in. So it's worth checking out. Jody says, Jim, how can we hear the new training? Uh, yeah, new training. Um, I'll put it in the members area, you know. So yeah, you can go check that out. I think it's really good. Um, again, you know, if you're in the program, you, you're living it, you know. But I don't think it ever hurts to, um— I think the training is really good. So I think it's actually— it's probably worth it even if you're in the program. It's probably worth watching, um, the first 15-20 minutes just to kind of get I would say a more optimized overview of the whole process, you know. Um, so yeah, I'll put that in the members area, I'll put it in Circle, and I'll put a link to it. But yeah, it's completely recorded. I just got to do a couple backend things and it'll be out there. So, um, for anyone else who's opting in today, well, if you're on my email list, that you'll be getting an email about it maybe tonight or tomorrow, um, depending how much I can— how quickly I can get some few other things done. But, um, yeah, today or tomorrow you'll get the link for it and you can go watch that, check it out. Another free training. It's really good, I think. Um, but that'll, that'll be coming out, yeah, next couple days. But yeah, if you go get that, that hypnosis session is just gonna be there waiting for you, so go check it out. But yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. I get here every Monday through Friday talking about weight, whatever you might be dealing with, uh, let me help you out. Um, I'm the creator of Program Yourself Thin, so my approach is really kind of a holistic, comprehensive approach. Part of it's mindset, part of it's lifestyle, and part of it is what you're going to eat. But it works, I think. Well, I don't say it works, but it can help virtually any plan you're doing. So whatever you're doing to attempt to lose weight, whether it be cutting carbs, restricting calories, intermittent fasting, whatever you're doing, behind all of that is your mindset. And so if you're struggling with if you're struggling with weight at all, uh, understand that your mindset's at least part of it, right? I'm not saying all of it either. I mean, you need strategy as well. It's not just a mindset thing. Um, but if you're struggling with anything in terms of your weight, uh, feel free to ask a question. Let me take a— let me take a swing at it. Sometimes I can give you insights and perspectives that you may not have in terms of eating or in terms of how to manage your weight, your mindset, all of these things. 'Cause most dieters, unfortunately, most dieters really are stuck in the willpower struggle, right? Where everything's about willpower and basically fighting against yourself in order to get yourself to do the right thing. But that's a short-term approach, right? You can't fight yourself for long. It's very difficult and energy intensive to fight yourself. And so that is why dieting— that's one of the reasons why dieting is really not a great Um, not a great, uh, strategy, you know. So in Program Yourself, then we spend that time instead really focusing on, um, reprogramming so that we can naturally and automatically do the things that help us manage our weight instead of always fighting to get ourselves to do it. So yeah, and yes, that, uh, that new training, Reprogrammed, will kind of break it all up and show you how to do that. So Yeah, if you're in the program, I think you'll like it. I think it's really good. Um, and again, if you're not in the program, it's free, and I'll be sending that out, um, tonight or tomorrow, depending, depending how things go. Uh, what's Carolyn? Carolyn says, what about the way we speak to ourselves? I can't have, or I get to choose. Um, yeah, oh, for sure. What, what you say to yourself is so important. I think the way I think about it, big picture-wise, Your subconscious mind, your subconscious mind's like a computer and it's extremely literal, right? So if you, you don't have to know much about programming a computer, but if you know anything, you gotta be very, very specific when you're doing computer programming. Every symbol, everything has to be exact. Um, if you screw something up or, you know, vague about something, the program won't run. And so I think it's important in your mind, um, to realize that you, uh, you know, what you say to yourself really, really matters. And so when you say to yourself, I can't have that, I shouldn't have that, I need to do this, I have to do this, right? These are all words that imply you're not doing what you want to do. You're being forced to do something you don't want to do. And so you subconsciously resist it and fight against it. And a lot of people kind of find themselves there. Is, um, again, it's the language of fight, right? And again, if you've been a dieter your whole life, you've internalized this language of fighting. So you think about weight loss as a fight. And, um, again, the shift in language immediately can bring relief. You know, you don't have to lose weight, you want to lose weight. You can't— you don't— you can't have that food, or you could have it. Um, you're choosing not to have it because you want to feel better. Physically, mentally, emotionally. So the language we use really leads to the emotions we feel, that leads to the behaviors we do, and that leads to the results we get. So again, if we reverse engineer success, it always ends up back to what your thoughts are, what you're saying to yourself, what you're thinking specifically. And the truth is that if you're not getting the results you want, I can almost guarantee you it's because of the way you're thinking about it consistently. And this is one of the structural reasons why you've tried to lose weight for so long and have not succeeded, uh, because the way you think about it, you know, is, uh, is kind of bringing you the opposite direction you think it should. Uh, what's up Kimberly? Kimberly says, how do you shut people up that don't support you, especially when you eat something they feel is off plan when I've planned for it? Punching them isn't an option. That's a funny question, but it's very, very real, right? Because when you, when you are taking on your weight and learning how to manage it more effectively, absolutely, at some point you're going to have to learn how to deal with the other people in your life. And it could be friends, it could be coworkers, it could be family, but everyone has to deal with the other people in their lives because food is such like a communal thing in so many ways. So when you go and attempt to change what you're doing, other people matter and they can matter in all different ways. You could have the friend who tries to sabotage you. You could have the parent that, that, you know, berates you if you make a mistake. You could have, you know, a group, a diet group you're part of that make you feel really bad if you screw up. You could have a diet group around you to support you if you screw up. So again, there's all kinds of relationships we have. And I can almost guarantee you the more, the more important relationships in your life are almost always related to your weight. This is true. So a lot of times if we're going to manage our weight, we've got to manage our relationships to some degree. And so the question comes, Kimberly, so I'm glad you have this awareness of these people. So how do you shut people up that don't support you, especially when you eat something they feel is off plan? So it sounds like you have kind of a co-dieter in your life, someone who's invested in what you're reading as you are. And, uh, again, that can come in different forms, right? But if you in your life have someone who's in your life who's invested in what you're reading as you are, that's kind of a problem. That's what I'd say right off the bat. And so those people there, yeah, I mean, I think you have to start asking yourself the question, how do I want to handle this? When I eat, I, I made plan, I know what I'm going to do, and I'm going to go eat, you know, a bun and a cookie, whatever, you know. And you go and do it, and then you feel guilty doing in front of these people, or these people say something, how do you want to respond to that? And so it's not, it's not for me to say, oh, say this, because every situation is just so unique and different. So I want you to start asking, how do I want to respond to this when I go and do this and the person says something? Okay, it's a spouse. Yeah, so this can especially be true when you have a partner that you're living with, share your life with. Um, yeah, when they get invested in your reading That again, it's never good. I always feel like, you know, no one should be more invested in your reading than you. You know, that's a, that's a you job. Your job is to, you know, take care of your reading the way you want to take care of it. Um, it's a really, it's a one-person job. We don't need two people on that. So again, if it's upsetting or triggering to you, you know, the question becomes, how do I want to handle this? You know, and you spend a little bit of time thinking about it because Most likely what you've been is stuck in a cycle of reaction. So, you know, the person— you're doing really well, you, you eat something, the person says something, and then it spirals you, and then you get really upset, and you just think in your head, you know, all this upset of reflexive reaction to it. So we want to calm down and ground ourselves. Okay, here I'm with this person and they say something. How do I want to respond to it? What's the ideal response? And you think about that. And again, I don't know what the answer would be for you. It might be anger. It might say, listen, don't worry about— I'm fucking eating. Some people, that's the right answer. Other people might say, do you mind? I really would appreciate it if you didn't, you know, concern yourself with what I'm eating, and I won't concern myself with what you're eating. Is that a deal? Yeah, some people that works, and some people, you know, I know you mean well and I really, really appreciate it, but is it possible you could just stop paying attention to what I'm eating? It stresses me out. I know you mean well and I appreciate that part, heart, but my nervous system just gets tweaked up, and it would really actually help me a lot more if you would just not mention anything, you know. So, um, again, there's different ways to respond to it, but, but start to consider your own situation and, um, yeah, and think about it. And I'm gonna tell you something funny here, Kimberly, and I, I might sound nuts when I say this. I can only see your, your profile picture is like this big to me, so I can't really see it. But I will tell you that when I look at your profile picture, I feel like I'm— what I feel like is a picture of you playing a banjo. I don't know if you have like an odd, like, kind of a design on your shirt that looks like a banjo to me, or if you're actually playing a banjo. But if you play the banjo, write it— write him a banjo song, you know what I mean? Write him a banjo song about a spouse that stops paying attention to his, uh, you know, their wife's, uh, food choices. But I'm joking, I'm joking, but I'm not, because I'm saying whatever works for you. And everyone's in a different situation, so I think that's the right question, um, to ask. And we just don't know what the answer is yet, but that question will get you there. So that's the plan. But yeah, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them. I hope you're all having a nice summer. There we go. But yeah, again, questions, feel free to ask them. Like I said, if you're not in my world, make sure you click the link in my bio and go get the free hypnosis session, or go to programyourself.com. Selfthin.com. Um, go check that out. It is, um, yeah. Kimberly says, oh, I was on a cruise at the steering wheel. Okay, I got you. Oh, I see. All right, I just zoomed in. Okay, yeah, you, you probably never played the banjo. That's kind of a weird thing to say, but it looks like a banjo from far away. And if you don't know what it is, yeah, there you go. So there you go. Well, you're, you're the, you're at the steering wheel, so it's very, very, um It's interesting that's your picture because you, Kimberly, are the one at the steering wheel and you can have more control over how your spouse responds than you may think, right? So take a step back, ground yourself, relax, look at the situation, ask the magical question: how do I want to respond to this? How— when my spouse or partner says something, how do I want to respond? How do I want to handle this? Where do I want this to go? Start connecting to your power and your ability to influence the situation because you've got more of it than you think. You're the one at the steering wheel in the picture and in life. So yeah, if anyone's got any questions, feel free to ask them. I know Monday, Monday, July 20th, we really want to talk about weight right now. Some people do. People started to finish up their vacations and get back on the— back on track. So that's why I got— I'm glad I got Reprogrammed is the new training I did, and I can't wait for y'all to see it. I love it. I think it's super good. And, um, that is done now, and so I just got to put a few finishing touches, and it'll be available to watch tonight or tomorrow, and you'll get the email for it, um, as soon as it is. All right, so I can't wait. Other than that, you know, I'm gonna get out of here. I got a lot of stuff I do want to get that finished, so let me go work on it some more, and I will, um, be back tomorrow. Again, if you're not in my world, click the link in my bio or go to programyourselfthing.com, go get the free hypnosis session. Uh, if you like this, I'm here every Monday through Friday, usually around noon Eastern. And, um, yeah, it, uh, I'm here every day to kind of help you out, answer your questions. And if you like this but you can't make the live, it's also a podcast, so you can search any podcast platform, uh, search Program Yourself Then, and it'll pop up anytime you want. All right, um, yeah, Carolyn likes that analogy. Very good. All right, very good, everyone.
