Program Yourself Thin Live 7-20-26

Jim Katsoulis argues that restrictive diets fail because they're unsustainable. His Program Yourself Thin framework uses hypnosis to reprogram subconscious eating cues, building lasting habits from a foundation of mindset shift rather than willpower or extreme restriction.

All right, everyone, welcome to today's program, Yourself Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about the easy path to losing weight. And this is a mindset, a concept, more than it is a specific path that I'm going to tell you about. Don't freak out about that. Don't leave, because this is really important. If you take a look at every time you've tried to lose weight, it's always been the hard path. That's been the path that you have wanted to take because you believe the hard path equals the fastest results. So you have walked the hard path of weight loss your entire life because that's the only thing you've ever been shown. And in that world, um, pain equals gain, uh, challenge and difficulty lead to more dramatic results. And that's what you've been fixated on. You're missing the part though, where doing the hard thing is something that you can do for a little while and then you can't keep it up anymore. So we have to recognize that part as well, that the hard path, while we feel proud of ourselves when we walk it and we're really You know, excited about it when we're doing it, we also have to zoom out and look at your life and notice how long you've been able to walk the, the, the hard path for. And usually you're going to find that you can walk the hard path for probably a couple of days to a couple of weeks. Usually there might be one or two times you stuck with it for months. Right. But more often than not, you're spending a very short amount of time doing the hard thing. So the easy path to losing weight is just what it sounds like. It's the easy path. And it starts though, before you can kind of figure out what that path is, you have to understand why. Because, and how, I suppose, because in order to walk the easy path, the one thing you've got to shift is your timeframe. Because the diet industry's conditioned you to think of how can I lose as much weight as possible this week? This month. And so everything's optimized to fast weight loss. But again, the fastest weight loss can only be achieved by the hardest methods. And so if we're looking for the longest lasting weight loss, that needs to be created by the easiest methods. So what we are giving up a little bit in instant results, we are getting back in long-term results. And that's the hardest part. I'll be honest with you. The hardest part is having some patience and seeing the big picture and starting, starting to orient your success around 6 months from now, a year from now, 5 years from now. That's the hardest part. Because once you do that, once you start to realize that you don't just want to lose weight, you actually want to lose the weight for good so that you can live at your goal weight for the rest of your life. Once you really internalize that, guess what? The easy path to weight loss is pretty easy. How do you figure it out? You know what? You keep doing the easiest thing you can do in the moment to lose weight and to get to your goal weight. It ain't that hard. So what's the easiest path? Okay, well, let's compare them. On one hand, we have the hardest path, which is keto is an example of a hardest path. You can't eat any carbs. So here it's Monday, you can't eat carbs anymore. Uh, that's pretty hard. That's about as hard as it gets. On the other hand, what's the easiest? Um, you know what, I'm not gonna eat a roll with dinner tonight. I'm not gonna take an extra serving of, um, rice or pasta or whatever it may be. I'm gonna eat my sandwich and I'm gonna take the bun off, the top bun off of it. I'll just give it the bottom bun. That's easier. I could do that. See the difference? Intermittent fasting. Okay, you can't eat for 16 hours. You can't even— okay, that's a hard path, right? What's an easier path? Um, you know, I'm gonna stop eating an hour before bed. I usually eat right up until bed. I'm gonna take a, you know, an hour before I'm gonna stop. I can do that. That's not too hard. Great. All right, instead of that, I gotta get my calories down to 1,500. I'm gonna cut my calories down by half, you know. No, how about we just cut them down by 10%? You know Make it easy, easy. Instead of going to the gym and working out for an hour, maybe I'll just take a walk around the block for 5 minutes. It's, it's not hard once you wrap your head around it. Now you say, well, yeah, but that's not going to give me the results. It gets you the results. They just don't come as fast, but they last a lot longer because all those things I mentioned are a lot easier to maintain. It's a lot easier to maintain, you know, not having the roll at dinner, not eating an hour before bed, going for a walk. Those things are a lot easier to maintain and keep up. And that's where the real results you're looking for exist. It's in the consistency and the stability of doing things that are relatively easy for you. That's where the success comes from, not from overwhelming yourself and just hoping that this will be the time that you stick with it forever. No one sticks with diets forever. They're not built to be stuck with. They're built to be done for a little while and create dramatic results and then eventually stop doing them. That's what diets are made for, and that's what they've programmed you to do. I mean, it's not an accident that 85 to 95% of dieters that get to their goal weight put the weight back on. Those are abysmal numbers. And so there's something going on beyond, um, people just not having willpower or not being motivated enough or having broken metabolisms. It's much deeper than that. And it really comes down to the idea that diets are built for the short term. And one of the ways that they're built for the short term is that they expect you to do the most difficult thing you can possibly do and to try and maintain it. And that is not a recipe for success. So instead, start following the easy path, do the little easy things consistently to get the results. And not only do you get better weight loss results, but you tend to feel a whole lot better along the way as well. All right. And if you want to kind of start walking that easy path, I think there— has got to be no easier way than getting the free hypnosis session that I made for you and listening to it. It is the easiest way that I have ever seen in order to kickstart your weight loss. You close your eyes and relax and listen for 10 minutes, and you come out the other side feeling more relaxed, calm, and motivated to make better food choices. And so it's there for you to test it out. If you, um, Click the link in my bio or go to programyourselfthin.com. It's just waiting for you. Uh, go get it. And if you are in TikTok, you can click the picture up in the left there of me and it'll bring you to my bio and you click that link. If you are in Facebook or YouTube, I'm going to put the link in the chat window. Feel free to— where is this thing? Feel free to go click this link and go get that hypnosis session. It's a really good one. And it's completely free. So go check that out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Any weight loss questions are welcome. I'm here every day to help do it. Justice Lover says, we couldn't afford sweets as a kid. Now I eat junk food because I couldn't afford it. Now I can and I do. Um, yeah, that's a real— that's a legit thing. And I think, um, again, whether that's applicable to you all exactly is really less important than the process behind the specifics, right? And what I mean by that is that a lot of our food decisions, a lot of our decisions in life period, are really based out of this subconscious programming that a lot of times we're completely unaware of. So at least Justice here has a sense that, you know, I grew up without, you know, we never got sweets, we didn't make money. Now I got some money and now I eat them a lot. Um, but I think the step forward is to honor and acknowledge that those phases of life, but then define a better reality as you move forward. Okay, so nowhere in those dynamics of not having it at all or having an abundance of it constantly, neither one of those situations taught you how to interface with it moderately, which is the ultimate, ultimate, um, reality to be in when you can have candy and sweets and consume them moderately so you can not only have the sweets and enjoy those you can also have the body you want. And for you specifically, you can also feel the abundance that you now have in life, that you can buy sweets if you want to, right? But you can buy them and you can do it moderately. And that's the sweet spot, in my opinion. But I get that. And things like that are really, I think, helpful to notice. You know, Justice Lover says, I eat until I can't breathe. Yeah, again, I mean, people do this, right? And it's like, that's the response that's kind of been built into you now, but it can be changed as well. You know, it's not, it's not fun to eat till we can't breathe. It's really not. It's, uh, it just feels gross ultimately. And of course, when you get to that point too, there's a long tail effect to that, right? You eat so much that you can't breathe. It's going to probably impact your sleep. It's going to impact how you wake up tomorrow morning. It's going to impact your blood sugar, your energy levels, your hunger, your cravings, your weight, your health, all these other things as well. So again, We're looking for the sweet spot of pleasure, and that ain't it. You know, binging ourselves till we can't breathe is not really, uh, enjoyable. So, but I get it. Yeah, Digital Encore says, damn, that makes so much sense. Yes, that's talking about the easy and the hard path. Yes, it's— it makes a lot of sense, right, when you hear it. Um, again, in my world, I'm really obsessed with the easy path. I should say the easier path. I mean, nothing's easy in life that's worthwhile. Um, so certainly managing my weight, my health, my happiness, all this stuff, I wouldn't say it's easy. Um, I would say it's way easier for me than it is for people that are trying to diet or take GLP-1s. I don't think GLP-1's an easy path either. GLP-1 is just a path to a different destination than what we're on with Program Yourself Thin. Because with Program Yourself Thin, we take the weight loss, rapid and personal development. So it's not just about losing weight, it's really about becoming the person you want to be. So at the end of the day, it really is a, um, personal development program. What's up, Wendy? Wendy says, it took me a year to find a balance of proper eating activity and self-control that works for me, that I can maintain a lifestyle for the rest of my life. Nothing dramatic, just like you said, easy things that are easy to maintain but make a big difference. Love your hypnosis session. Well, thank you. Yes, um, thanks for both of those things. Again, we need to hear over and over and over and over and over and over again Um, where we need to hear over and over again that the easy path is the best path when it comes to weight. Because our whole lives we have been constantly— what— we have constantly been, um, bombarded with messaging that weight loss has to be difficult. It doesn't. Weight loss doesn't have to be difficult. As a matter of fact, if it's difficult, you're on the wrong path. I mean, it can be a little difficult, right? A little difficult is fine because anything we do new is going to feel difficult to us. Okay, so a little difficult is fine. A lot of difficult is not fine. A lot of difficult is a bad idea. So, um, Mariel, I see you're asking about that, that hypnosis session. I just put the link in the, the chat there so you can just click that link. But again, you go to Program Yourself Then. If you're on TikTok, you click the picture of me and go get that hypnosis session. Uh, it's a good one. And, um, like I said, beyond just the hypnosis session, I also have a training I made for you, uh, called Reprogrammed: How to Live at Your Goal Weight Without the Fight. That is in the final phases of getting finished. Um, it's finished. I just need to set up the pages and things that go with it. But, um, that should be coming your way within a day or two. So go sign up and you'll get the email for that. I think it's my best training so far by a mile. I think it's so good. It's completely free and it'll show you literally how to reprogram your mind. I show you the redo rehearsal technique, take you through it, everything. I think it's a wonderful training and you get it for free if you're on my email list. Okay. So if, again, if you're not on my email list, go check that out. I give you that hypnosis session as well. But, uh, I think the, that, um, that training, I think is gold. I think it's so good. So go check it out. But yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Any questions are welcome. I do talk a lot about mindset, but I work with people doing every kind of weight loss plan out there. So I help people with any diet, any plan, because at the end of the day, regardless of what plan or path you're following, your mindset is going to be a factor at some point. No matter where you go, your mind's there with you. And so if you're going to manage your weight effectively, I'm going to suggest that you probably need to learn how to manage your mind more effectively. And you may notice once you start to think about it that you don't really know how to manage your mind because you have never learned how to manage your mind. Have you? Um, you've never really learned how to influence your thinking. You've never learned how to influence how you talk to yourself. And these things matter a lot. If you think about when you have attempted to lose weight, what usually stops you is your mindset. You get negative, you get discouraged, you get frustrated, and you stop. So managing our mind, in my opinion, is ground zero of managing your weight. And that's why in Program Yourself Thin we have the goal weight pyramid. And if you look at it and you look at the bottom, the base of it that supports everything else, it's mindset. So we got mindset right there, and then Lifestyle and eating's above it. So there's that. What's up, Luna? Luna says, I'm curious about the differences and similarities between meditation and hypnosis. Would be great to hear your take. Um, yeah, I think about this a lot. I do a lot of meditation, so I'm in both of those worlds. My impression, and I kind of— my favorite description of it is kind of like two paths up the same mountain. We end up kind of at the same place, um, but we do it in different ways. And so Neuroscientifically, the brain state of hypnosis or meditation are very similar. They're very similar brainwave patterns. Okay. What we're doing with those brainwave patterns is the difference. So with meditation, now I'm talking about, I want to make the distinction here too. I'm not talking about guided meditation. Guided meditation to me is hypnosis. Meditation traditionally is something a person does on their own inside their own head. And so maybe they're saying a mantra, um, but more often than not, they're doing kind of quiet meditation within themselves. So I see meditation as being a singular, solo, silent thing, short of a mantra. Maybe you're repeating a mantra, but it's silent other than that. And I see hypnosis and guided meditation as the same thing. I see them as they're guiding your mind to a place. So with meditation, when I'm meditating, I'm really looking, honestly, I'm looking to stop thinking. I don't want to be thinking. I'm looking to exist in the silence as best I can. And with hypnosis, I'm using my mind actively. I'm imagining things that I want to, um, I'm imagining things that I think are going to help me and support me. So I may imagine myself as the person I want to be at lunch tomorrow. So I'm actively lighting up my visual cortex, my auditory cortex, what I'm gonna say to myself, my kinesthetic motor sensory cortex for what I'm gonna feel in that moment. I'm gonna imagine and rehearse how I'm gonna show up for lunch tomorrow. Okay. So to me, that's hypnosis. Now I'm actively imagining the person I wanna be. So that's self-hypnosis. I'm generating that if I'm doing it. But hypnosis is very similar, right? I mean, maybe you listen to a hypnosis session I make where I have you imagine you're at the beach and you are actively lighting up your visual cortex, imagining looking at the ocean and seeing the, the umbrellas and the sand. You can hear the birds, the seagulls in the sky and the sound of the waves crashing. You can feel motor, motor sensory cortex. You can feel the sand on your toes, the sun on your skin, the wind in your hair. You know, things like that. And by illuminating those sensory components, especially visual, auditory, and kinesthetic— visual, auditory, and feeling— by lighting those up intentionally with your imagination, you have an experience and a shift in your body. So hypnosis to me is very intentional. We're looking to create kind of a destination, or we have, we have a goal in mind. In meditation, I guess we have a goal in mind too, but it's a goal in mind where we just go into a state of being, of, of not thinking. So that's kind of how I think about it. So I think about them very differently though. And again, guided meditation to me is guided hypnosis. I do not think guided meditation is meditation at all, but that's my definitions that I go with. And so when it comes to actually creating change, I think the hypnosis is way more effective. I, I think meditation is very valuable and helpful in creating personal change as well, but I think more in an indirect way. And I think hypnosis used properly is way more directly helpful to creating the outcomes that you're looking to create. So yeah, to me, hypnosis is really crucial to understand because it's fundamentally how your mind operates. We are not logical creatures. We are emotional creatures. And what we're imagining in our minds is really dictating our lives to some degree. That's why I will tell you, when it comes to weight, for a lot of people, they are already hypnotizing themselves to be overweight because the way they think about food, it creates lots of craving and desire for it. Every advertisement you see is a hypnosis session. And the ad is implanting in your mind a way to think about that food that generates maximum desire and craving for it. So we think hypnotically out of the packaging. We all think hypnotically. We all have hypnotic brains. This is why— this is the magic of being a human to some degree. This is why we can watch TV or movies and enjoy them so much. Because we have these brains that have the ability to see a movie that we know is just light on a screen and sound waves hitting our ears. It's not real. We're sitting in an empty room or we're sitting in a room with a bunch of— a dark room with a bunch of strangers. But we're having all of these emotional feelings during that time. I just watched The Odyssey the other night. You're going through all these, all these emotions. I know I'm just watching Matt Damon. I know it's just Matt Damon from, from over in Boston. I know that., but in the movie, I imagine he's Odysseus and he's going on these challenges and my imagination makes it real. That's the thing. You ever watch sports on TV and you're like all hyped up and adrenaline in your body? Why? You ain't in the game. You know, you're just watching light on a screen. You sound in a thing, but your imagination makes it real and it creates a real physiological impact in you. And that's the secret of hypnosis. And that's why it's so important. To understand it, because your mind is constantly generating images and sounds and feelings that are really driving your life in the direction it's going. And what most people try and do is they leave that part alone and they try and just focus on willpower to fight against what the subconscious is generating. I would suggest you're much better off using your willpower to reprogram what the subconscious is generating so that it generates the things that bring you in the direction you want to go in. And again, if you're not in my world, please get the hypnosis session. Click the link in my bio or go to program yourself, then go get the hypnosis session because you're really going to want to watch the Reprogrammed workshop I put together. It's like just 20, 25 minutes of straight content that if you have any serious desire to manage your weight, I cannot imagine even trying to manage your weight without watching this training. It would be the silly— I don't know. Anyways, yeah, it's really interesting to hear your thoughts here. Yeah, well, I'm glad you enjoyed that. Um, yeah, or I hope that you find that helpful. Um, I think hypnosis and meditation, again, it's a, a lifelong commitment for me. I'm just fascinated by both of them. Um, but I do think of them very much differently, and I think a lot of the confusion does come from the phrase guided meditation. I, I just don't agree with that languaging at all. I think of meditating as being a solo thing we do on our own, and, uh, that kind of works for me. But yeah, people can have different definitions too. All right, everyone, we get out of here. I got a busy day here, so I'm gonna skedoodle. And, uh, if you are not in my world, again, please go get that hypnosis session. It's there waiting for you. Uh, just click the link in my bio, go to programyourselfthin.com. If you like this, I'm here every Monday through Friday at noon Eastern, except for Tuesdays here at 1.
