Resetting Your Weight Loss Expectations

Jim Katsoulis (speaker) presents a YouTube monologue (podcast-style/live stream) called "Resetting Your Weight Loss Expectations" (uploaded Sept 4, 2025). He argues that commercial diets create unrealistic, sprint-like expectations for weight loss that lead most people to regain weight; instead weight loss should be approached as a long-term, ongoing maintenance process. He outlines common misconceptions (straight-line loss, one-time finish), gives pragmatic mindset advice (expect plateaus/slip-ups; maintenance is ongoing), and describes his Program Yourself Thin system: a Weight Mastery Pyramid (Mindset, Lifestyle, Eating), a 144-page spiral-bound Goal Weight Blueprint workbook, hypnosis/rehearsal techniques (an 8-week hypnosis system with short morning/evening sessions), and a paid program with lifetime access and support via the Circle app. He also mentions target audience patterns (many clients are women ~45–70) and logistics (workbook printed as spiral-bound for writing).

Everyone, welcome to today's program Yourself Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about resetting your weight loss expectations. I'm gonna. Before I even go into this, I just want to warn you, this might be a little disappointing to you in the beginning, but I think you're gonna end up in a better place. Okay? So stick with me because this is so important. So we kind of start our journey reflecting on diet marketing for your entire life, right? So as long as you've been alive, there has been diet marketing at this point, which is to say that the primary way you think about weight loss has been implanted there and conditioned by the diet industry. And the diet industry is just a arm of the food industry. Weight Watchers is owned by Heinz. Dany Craig was owned by Nestle Atkins Food Products, owned by the same company, owns Ony Anne's Pretzels and Cinnabon Slim Fast, owned by the same company that owns Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. So you get the idea that the idea of dieting is not there to help you get to your goal weight and stay there forever. It's there to get you really excited to spend some money, start the diet, and then ultimately quit and go back to eating their foods. That's kind of the ultimate purpose of dieting. And so one of the main ways they do this is to get you excited and get your money when you want to lose weight is they sell you the concept of a diet. And the basic concept of a diet is this, that you're gonna do something extreme. Now, you may not think it's extreme because you've habituated to it, but let's look at all the different plans. Weight Watchers, you're gonna start counting every single point. Intermittent fasting, you're just gonna stop eating for 16 hours. Obviously, keto Paleo, you're just gonna stop eating carbs. Okay. And it just goes on and on. Okay? So these are all relatively extreme things. Again, you don't think they're extreme anymore. You've, you know, normalized to them, but they're extreme and they're overwhelming. Now, how do we get ourselves to do something extreme? You have to make a big promise in order to do that. And the promise of the diet is that you're going to take all this action and then you're going to get to your goal weight. Now, this is where things get interesting because they don't necessarily come out and say it, but they imply a lot of times, through constant marketing your entire life, this idea that you are going to lose Weight, and then you're gonna be done with it, right? You're going to do this intense thing, you're going to stick to it, you're going to take action, be a hard worker, use your willpower, get to your goal weight and then stay there. You're gonna, of course, right? You'll figure it out when you get there. The hard part's getting there. Once you're there, the rest is going to be easy. Don't worry about that part.
But if you look at your own experience, if you look at the experience of people around you, the experience of virtually everyone, what ends up happening on a diet in the best case scenario is that you get to your goal weight. But what is happens, it's estimated to have happened to 95% of dieters that lose weight on a diet, put the weight back on. So obviously that's not the ultimate goal that you want to achieve, Right? You don't want to lose weight only to put it back on. And yet this really is what diets create in you and everyone else. Okay, you're not alone. It's very, very intentional how these diets work. So what the diets have done is they have manipulated our expectations of weight loss. Is. And to sum it up kind of in a succinct way, basically the way you think about weight loss is you think of it like a sprint. You think of it as this intense burst of action and energy to get to your goal weight. Then I'll just figure it out. And whatever you're figuring out, you. I'm not going with maintenance or then I'm going to, you know. You know, I don't know. People have different ideas of how they're going to do it. Most of the time, they don't really consider how they're going to maintain their weight. They just say, well, once I get there, I'll figure it out. Okay, now, again, we know statistically that almost never happens. And so you have a lot of expectations about weight loss that are complete bullshit. And what I'm going to say to you, you're going to probably resist a bit because it doesn't sound as appealing as the diet promise. Right? The idea that you're just going to focus on losing weight, because that's the fun part. I know it sounds strange. The fun part is actually the losing the weight.
Why do I say that? Because you get the excitement of the scale going down. You all lost weight before, when you're really in the zone with it, when you're really on track, the losing weight is really the thing that keeps you going, right? The stepping on the scale and it's lower, the anticipation of that, that's really the main thing driving you. For most dieters, they're going to trade the excitement of the food, the excitement of pleasure of the food. Oops.
For the excitement and pleasure of the scale going down. But the problem is that eventually the scale stops going down, you get to your goal weight and now what are you looking forward to? What's the excitement and the pleasure coming from? And most people are going to struggle with this. So there are all of these expectations that are packed into dieting and what I want to do is kind of give you a much more accurate sense of what to expect based on my 20 plus years experience working with people to help them get to their goal weight and stay there. So the first one is that most likely you're not going to start with your weight up here and just have a straight line of success down to your goal weight. Again, I know that's the diet promise, right, that if you put the energy and the effort in that, you're going to start up here and you're going to have this consistent loss down to your goal weight. And that's probably the first lie. I have not seen this happen very often because most people have a bit of weight to lose, right? So most people, it's going to take them three to nine months at least to even have a chance of getting to their goal weight. Now, as soon as you can start getting past a month, two months, all of a sudden, it's very unlikely that you're going to be perfect that whole time. Because again, what this downward trail of weight loss implies is that you're eating and you're sticking to the plan perfectly the whole time. And very few people do this, to be honest, right? Most people can't make it a week, most people can't make it a month. But even if you passed a month, you're going to have these slip ups, you're going to have life, you're going to have holidays, you're going to have vacations, you're going to have parties, you're going to have social things. And most likely what's going to happen is your weight is going to start going down and then at some point it's going to plateau or it's going to go up. And so dieting does not prepare you for this, right? Because your idea is that I'm going to start today on Monday and I'm going to just do this down to My goal weight. And because you have that expectation, when you do hit the plateau, the uptick, when you hit the challenge, you ain't prepared for it and it feels like you completely have blown it. It feels like the ride's over. I was doing so good and now I'm done. But that's not true. Your journey is always going to involve blips up plateaus, mistakes, screw ups, lack of motivation. These things are always going to be a part of your life. So it's important to recognize this right from the beginning, so that when you do hit these times, you're prepared for them. And I find most dieters are not. And again, there's the concept. They describe this specifically to dieters. It shows up on. There is. It's primarily dieters and they call it the what the hell effect. And it's basically this idea that, you know you're doing perfect and then you have one little slip up and now you're completely off track. And I believe a lot of this directly comes back to the expectations you have of your journey and your expectations as a dieter again, that you're going to start up here and just go straight down to here. And I rarely see that. The path I usually see happen is kind of like this. Now, again, notice the trend line. It's trending down right the way it's going down. But along the way, there's ups, downs, plateaus, all the rest of it. And that is what I've seen a vast majority of the time. I rarely see this. Okay, I usually see this.
And if you go into the process with that realization, that expectation, I think you're much. You're in a much better spot to deal with those things because they're going to happen. There's literally no avoiding it. So, you know, maybe people get superstitious and they think, well, if I, you know, expect that there's going to be scrubs, I'll screw up more. I've not seen that happen because I see a lot of people, they're expecting they're going to be perfect and then they screw up. So I've not seen that, that pan out. So I think you're a lot better off to set your expectations accurately and be prepared for the real challenges that you're going to face right now. The next huge expectation that I want to share with you is that the myth of getting to your goal weight, when you get to your goal weight, it's absolutely worth celebrating. It's exciting, it's fun, there's all sorts of great stuff about it. However, there's also the reality that now you are going to have to maintain it if you want to state your goal weight. And the maintenance phase is absolutely harder because you don't have the excitement of getting to your goal weight pulling you forward. You lose out on that motivation. And that is a very powerful motivator. Really what we're talking about is dopamine. And when dopamine, again, dopamine is what's driving you eat the wrong foods. Most of the time, you're looking forward to them, you're excited by them, you eat them, you get this flood of this rush of excitement and pleasure, and that's what's driving you to eat the unhealthy foods. But it's that same process that drives you to lose the weight, because now, again, like I said, you just replace the looking forward to food, to looking forward to losing weight, to getting on the scale and it being lower. And it's this dopamine that drives you forward. And so as soon as you get to your goal weight, you don't really have that to look forward to. You don't have the excitement of getting to your goal weight anymore. You're at your goal weight. And then on top of that, not only at your goal weight, but now the fairy tale of being at your goal weight being this state where you never have to deal with stress or strife or challenges or whatever, disappears because now you're your goal weight and you're still having relationship issues, you're still having work issues, you're still tired, you're still, you know, have bills to pay. You know, life's still there. And on top of that, now you don't have to look forward to the weight loss. And the idea that once I lose the weight, everything's going to get a lot better. Okay, again, please understand, I'm not saying this to discourage you. I'm saying this to be honest with you, because no one ever tells you this stuff. The weight loss industry is built around bullshitting you, painting you a rosy picture fairy tale of the future that never comes to be. And I feel I take it on as my personal job to be honest with you. And yeah, it's a little discouraging in the beginning to hear this stuff. I get that. But tough, deal with it. Deal with it now. Okay? Deal with it now. And get better at dealing with it as you move forward so that you don't just get to your goal weight completely unprepared for this stuff, because that's the part we got to Deal with. It's not the weight loss piece. Most people can lose weight, the problem is they can't keep it off. And so you have to realize that living at your goal weight is really a forever process. Living at your goal weight, it's a forever marathon. Now the good news is it doesn't feel like a marathon. Or to put it a different way, it becomes easier to run the marathon, your muscles get used to it. You, you just become normalized to doing the things that keep you at your goal weight. So it becomes easier, relatively okay, but it's always effortless. I always use the example that maintaining your goal weight is kind of like surfing. And even if you never surfed, I mean again, the sense, the idea of surfing is that you always have to be engaged. Really snowboard, I snowboard. But I think even surfing is even more engaged because with surfing the wave is constantly changing, right? The situation is constantly changing and evolving and you've got to meet it where it's at. And so you have to be engaged and focused and present and, and the same is true with your weight. And really subconsciously, what the diets sell you is this idea that you're going to lose the weight, get there and then you're home free. You know, this fairy tale life. And that's just not true. I've never seen that happen. And again, most people, the vast majority, 95% is the estimates never keep the weight off. So again, these two expectations specifically, and there's more expectations beyond this, but I'm going to wrap it up. But the more you specifically focus on these two expectations that it's not going to be a straight line. Most likely you're going to have slip ups and that's totally normal and fine. But start the process knowing that, preparing yourself for that so when it does happen, you're ready. And then the other piece is that when you get to your goal weight, you have to keep going. And that part is actually a gift in disguise because when you actually start to internalize and except that living at my goal weight is a forever process, the magical thing that starts to happen is your brain starts to only or mostly consider strategies for weight loss that are much more sustainable and comfortable. And as soon as you accept the reality that you're going to, if you want to live at your goal weight, you're going to have to work this forever. It starts to dawn on you that if I'm going to do that, I'm going to need strategies that are relatively comfortable for me. You're not going to be able to do keto for the rest of your life and nor would you want to. You're most likely not going to want to track calories for the rest of your life. And it goes on and on. So my point to you is that as you start to reflect on these specific to expectations, you may go through the stages of grief and loss, right? So it's like you have to go through those. But when you come out the other side and accept that this is just the piece of the puzzle, right? Again, it's like if you, let's just put an example, say you want to get a, you know, a professional degree in something. Let's just, it's accounting, nursing, whatever. It's like, you know, it's going to be challenging, you know, it's going to be hard work, there's going to be ups and downs, there's going to be struggles and you know, challenges coming your way, but you're prepared for them, right? If you sign up for nursing school or accounting school or whatever, you're prepared for that, you know what it is. And so you are already your expectations are nudging you towards success because they're preparing you for these things. And, and on top of that, you know, whatever you may do, maybe you need to do continuing education as well. And so you step into that situation with a much more accurate point of view and perspective. And I believe that goes a long way towards whether you succeed or fail. And when you compare that approach to how you're approaching weight loss, I think you're quickly going to realize that the weight loss approach you've been using is woefully inadequate. It's not setting you up especially mindset wise. It's not setting you up for long term success. It's selling you a fairy tale to get your money in the beginning and then they're, they're selling you, you know, snake oil basically. And so to me, it's not until you really deal with some of these more emotional realizations that shift your mindset dramatically that you really set yourself up to live your goal weight. All right, so what did I get?
Got my new. My new goal weight workbook just got delivered. I can't wait to see these. I'm so excited. I can't wait till after the the live.
I've been working on this for a long time. Let's see. Let's hope it's not a hope it's not a bust. I might live stream disappointment. Let's hope that came out.
This is exciting. You'll be the first first in the world to see it right after me. Let's see what's going on here.
All right, getting closer.
Oh, those look awesome.
Oh, that's nice.
Wow, wow, wow, wow. Oh, look at that.
Wow. This is cool. Look at that. There it is. The goal weight blueprint.
Pretty sweet, huh? So this is actually just got these made just come ship. So again if you were in the program, I will have a link up this today maybe, maybe tomorrow if you want to get one of these shipped to you. Oh, look at this. It's nice. This is cool. I don't know how they do this. Oh, I see it's got that on there.
Oh man, this is exciting for me.
I've always had digital. This has always been a digital thing.
So this is cool. So you get a sense of what this is. This is the goal weight blueprint. So this is in program yourself. Then there's kind of three main areas but the first two are knowing what to do and being able to get yourself to do it. So knowing what to do.
Is obviously the first piece. Right. But knowing what to do, you have to build it around you. Right. I Think that's the first thing diets get wrong. Diets are always telling you what to do, right? They're not. Like, when you start a diet, it's not like the person knows you and they're just giving you a customized solution. You know, these diets are supposedly built for everyone. Like, everyone's supposed to be keto. Everyone's supposed to track their calories. Everyone's supposed to stop eating for 16 hours. You know, so there's no sense of, like, who you are, what your lifestyle is, what your situation is. So I believe that there are three.
Key parts you need to address to live as a thin, healthy person. So we call it the weight. I'll show you. Let's see here. I'm going to show you. I'm going to. Okay, so here it is. So you see, like, right here, the Weight Mastery Pyramid Mindset Lifestyle Eating. Okay. And if you address all three of these areas now in detail. Right. Again, I will be the first to let you know that this program is not for people. Just want, like, just a quick fix. Just get something done. Yeah, no, no. This is. This is like college. This is like college for weight mastery. That's how I think of it. And so mindset, lifestyle, and eating. But you got to customize all those answers to who you are, your lifestyle, your situation. All right? And so that's what the. The blueprints are all about. This looks awesome. It's cool, too. I. I don't know. I'd originally gotten it as a different binding, but they couldn't fit it because it was too big. And this is very exciting for me. Look at that cover, huh?
Shout out to.
My. My designer there. She did such a great job. I love this cover. So anyways, let's show you the table of contents. I'll give you a sense of what we're talking about here. Because all told, this is 144 pages. Like, it's even got beautiful pictures in it. Right? Yeah. Jodi's going to get her excited. Copy. Yeah. This is exciting. This is fun for me. So, yeah, so I will.
I will put that link up soon if you want to get this. So there we go. Right? So there's a table of contents, and basically, you know, we're starting with mindset. We're going to lifestyle, and then we end up on eating, and you go through all of those. Okay. And again, so that's knowing what to do, and you need to know what to do in detail. Okay. The idea. Oh, just stop eating carbs. Are you kidding? Me, like that's such a big ass. Vague. It means it's almost meaningless. It's almost meaningless. Just stop eating carbs. And so you need a real specific plan for what you're going to do. And it needs to be detailed. See, you don't think of the detail that's involved with your behavior because you just do it on autopilot. Okay, so for example, right, it's like when you were learning how to ride a bike. Well, that shit, right? You had to break it down. Oh my God, this feels impossible. Now you ride a bike and you couldn't explain how you do it. You just know how to do it. Okay? And so all the little pieces that you broke down when you were learning, now it's just one movement. I'll just ride my bike. Okay, well, your eating is the same thing. It's estimated to make over 200 food decisions a day. And most of those you're completely unaware of. You're just doing them on autopilot. And so what this is about is getting in detail about how you think, how you live and how you eat as a thin, healthy person. For you though, because how you're gonna think, live and eat as a thin, healthy person is different than how I'm gonna think, eat and live as a thin, healthy person. We're different people, we live different lifestyles, we got different genetics, we like different things. You know, so it's like, again, that's why one thing you will not find in here is just like a meal plan. Oh, do this what I eat. Do they do this? You know, you're not going to find that because, oh, I like to eat what I eat. But you probably like to eat different stuff. It's like that, right? Being a human, we like different stuff. So, you know, you gotta figure out, you know, for you, what works for you. Look at this thing. This thing is awesome. This is exciting. So for right now, if you are a current client, I will be sending out a link to get this. It'll be $40 flat. That includes shipping and everything else.
I was thinking, I was hoping. I don't know if it's here.
Oh, that is. The contents are right there. So yeah, I'll give you. I'll sign it even. That'll be kind of cool, right? At least the first couple here. Eventually though, what's going to happen is, and I think I've told you that the price of program yourself is going up and these books will be included with that. But for right now, with a lower price, these things you Know, they're.
These things are no joke, I'll tell you that. Look at this. This is so fun. Especially, you know, like, no more just digital stuff. So I gotta stop talking about this. I'm so excited though. Look at these pictures. Inspiring. Is that, huh? Look at that shiny. So we go through everything, you know, how to choose your goal, weight, lifestyle, blueprint.
You know, it's a little typo. That's all right. First edition. That's the fun part. Anyways. All right, so yeah, if any questions, feel free to get it. So again, I will say though, this book particularly, that I'm not doing this to tease anyone. This book is only for program yourself 10 clients. So this is not just for sale, it's only for clients. It is what it is. Okay, but I got you. I got you. I am literally 80% done with a book that will be available to everyone. And on top of being available to everyone, it's. I'm going to literally make it as cheap as I can possibly make it on Amazon. So that'll be, I don't want to say free, but it'll be as close to free as possible. And that will be available, I believe by the end of the month. I'm really close to that one. And then I'm working on the other book, but. But this book is a shorter book. It's awesome. It's really cool. That'll be available for everyone. So I will let you know about that. This one here is only for program yourself thin clients. And again, it wouldn't really do you much good to be honest, even if you weren't in the program. Well, it would, it would. It's pretty awesome. But I was saying before, I think there's three things you need to really live as a thin, healthy person. I think the first one is you need to know what to do. You need to know what to do for you. Okay. The second thing is you need to know how to get yourself to do that thing. Knowing what to do is not enough. That's why diets are never going to work for you. You need to know what to do and then you need to know how to get yourself to do it. That's the program yourself then technique, the rehearsal technique you use to program your own mind. It's a self hypnotic exercise. You just take 60 seconds and you use that to program yourself to do the things that you write in your blueprint. And then you need a support system. I find it's. It is very challenging to do this all on your own. It's a big thing to change how you think live and eat.
You don't even just gonna do it. Like, I don't know, it was like, oh, you're just gonna learn the piano. I'm not saying you can't, but it's way hard. Are you gonna learn another language just on your own? Maybe, but. But it's really hard, you know? So anyways, that, that's why this, that I only. This book is really only for people in the program. But yes, there is a book coming out and it's an awesome book. It's. It's so good. I love it and I'm still kind of working on it, but it's. It's a quick one. It's a quick book. I want to get a quick one out there. And again, it'll. It'll be very inexpensive and I will let you all know when that happens. So. Yes. So thanks for the feedback. Yes, it is beautiful. It really is nice. So that's cool to have. And again, it's something firm and you got it. Okay. So that's cool. Sherry says, hey, Jim, you're definitely helping me learn. Have the mindset to deal with those ups and downs. I'm seeing that trend line go down overall, and that's better than I've ever been able to do. Yeah, it really is a trend line. You know what I mean? Like, that's the secret is that again, your. Your weight loss is not just a straight line. I think that's one of the biggest lies of the diets. And it really sets you up for failure. Because if you just think it's just gonna be a straight line down again, when that, when that difficulty comes, you're just not prepared for it. Because like, if you think it's going to be a straight line down and then you hit a bump, well, where's the problem? Well, it can't be the plan. The plan said it's because lose weight every week. They said if I follow the plan perfect, I'm always going to lose weight. So where's the problem? Must be me. You ain't the problem. Why? Because you had a good week, a bad week, you had a week where your metabolism slowed down. There's just a million reasons why your weight fluctuates in the short term. So again, we really need to have a bigger, longer term sense of what we're doing here, you know?
Yeah. So Linda says, how do I get into the program? I mean, you can always go to program yourself thin.
I'll give you a little secret. You can still, like, if you went in, like, sign up for the hypnosis session, you watch the video. I haven't updated that yet. Just don't tell anyone. So you can still get a discount on the program that will not include the book yet. Okay. Because that is a huge discount. But you will be able to get the book if you want a physical version. Understand, too, by the way. I just want to make this clear for my clients. I'm not here to keep juicing you. I. I want to make that crystal clear. This is something that I have, you know, I really wanted to work on because I just think it makes the program even better to have this, because then again, you can take it. And this is the cool thing when you're filling it out.
You know, you get space to fill things out, and you can just like, lay it flat and just write, you know, And a lot of my clients like to write. So like I said, up until now, it's always been a digital thing. Or you could print it out and. Or do it in Google Docs. Right. I had one of those. So this one's printed out for you, but if you're in the program, you can go to Staples and just get this printed out for. I don't know how much it would be, but maybe 10 bucks or something. I don't know. But. But again, if you want to put a little more. You get this here. But so anyways, that. That's. That's two ways to get in the program right now. Yeah. Linda says let us know when your book comes out on Amazon. Oh, I absolutely will. And I can't wait. This book, I'm so excited about it. I'm so excited about it because this book is a real light book. It's like an easy read. It's built. It's like hypnotic stories. Sort of think of it that way. It's very hypnotic, so you read it and change while you're reading. It's very light reading. It's very easy to read. It's a little short chapters. And what it does is this book basically gives a short kind of hypnotic story take on each section of the program. So, as I said, when we go through mindset, lifestyle and eating, and there's categories within each of those, and those are all represented in the book in kind of hypnotic tail form, if that makes sense. It will when you read it. And so as you read it, you're changing the way you think. And it's kind of. It's an amazing introduction to this whole thing. And the next book that comes out is going to be a deep dive into all those components written out that you'll be able to read. And then obviously, the blueprint is to fill it out so it doesn't have a lot of the detail with it. It's really built to be filled out, and you listen to the program to get more. More content with it. So anyways, just Jade says if you want your future book to be close to free, you could always set it up. So it's cheap, but goes to a charity you work with, care about. Oh, yeah, that'd be really cool. I might. I. I'm actually going to do that. Thank you, Jade.
Yeah, I'm gonna do that. I. I actually serve on the board of a local nonprofit, and that's absolutely who I'm going to set them up with. And yeah, that's a great idea just yet even think about that. And that is absolutely what I'm going to do. So thank you for reminding me of that. So. Yes. But anyways. Yeah. So if anything, questions. I know I'm sitting here talking about this book the whole time, but I'm so excited. It's been. Been a little while. Plus, I wasn't supposed to get here until yesterday, so I'm really, really, really excited. It's cool. All right.
So, yeah. JB's pet rescue. What is it? Yeah, it's the foreign. It's the goal weight blueprint. So this is your road map. You know what I mean? Once this is filled out. Now, I want to be clear. I always say this to people. This isn't the type of thing like you just fill out now. It's just done. This is like your guide, your diagnostic tool, your.
Sherpa. You know what I mean? It's your roadmap to getting to your goal weight and then living there. And it really covers everything. Because again, with dieting, think about this, right? And I don't care what diet you go on. It's basically you do the diet, and as long as you're doing it perfect, everything's fine. But the second you make a mistake, you almost have zero ability to diagnose what's wrong, Right? You just say, oh, I don't know. I just. I ate cookies, now I'm binging again. I was doing so good, and now I'm just off track. I just lost my motivation. I sabotage myself. It's just these kind of vague, big.
They're not really explanations, you know what I mean? And so this here again, we deep dive into the mindset so you understand again in mindset in this book here. So I'll show you. This is a little typo on the book I just noticed. But.
Suppose I missed this one. But it says choosing your goal. That's supposed to say mindset blueprint. Okay, but whatever. So choosing your goal weight is its own section. But so when it gets to mindset, it's motivation, self image, habits, emotions, thinking and maintenance. And so we deep dive into those. So you have strategies to motivate yourself, strategies to think, change your identity and your self image strategies, real strategies to deal with your habits. Right, so there's just an example, right? It's kind of like, you know, just, just habits alone. Let's talk about habits because let me show you what habits looks like in this book and I just want to compare. Now again, the reason I'm saying this is I want you to understand if you've been struggling with your weight, I know you blame yourself. And my big message to you every day is that stop blaming yourself because you've never learned how to lose weight. No, no, stop saying because, oh, I don't know, I'm going to do keto lose 30. That, that is not knowing how to lose weight and live as a thin healthy person. You've never learned how to shift your mindset. Specifically, you've never. You don't want to motivate yourself. Your motivation is like the, the planets aligning you. You feel like you have no control over it, right? You get motivated sometimes, then it fades away and you have no idea how to get it back. Okay, so it's like again, right off the bat, just the motivation section, right? We go through and we start really deconstructing what motivation is. You know, there's a science of motivation. Like, look, see what I mean? Like, like it's like motivation, motivation. You know, there's a couple pages on motivation and when you start identifying what actually motivates you right? Now, if you start losing motivation, you can come back to it, remind yourself, and it either remotivates you or you realize that's not really motivating enough. I need to go deeper. Imagine though, imagine actually being able to diagnose what your problem is and fix it, right? So we do that for motivation. Your self image, believe me, your self image and identity is crucial to your weight. If you've been overweight for a long time and you think of yourself and identify as an overweight person, it's going to be really hard to live as a thin, healthy person. It's a subconscious Incongruency. It's hard to think of yourself as an overweight person and a thin, healthy person at the same time. How would that work? But that's what most dieters are trying to do. So again, in programming yourself, then we're looking to transform our self image as well. Habits, right? So I'll show you the habit part because again, when it gets to habits, what are you doing to change your habits? I'm going to guess, I'm going to guess you're using willpower to fight against them. That's not a smart, strategic way to change your habits, you know. So again, when it comes to habits, we got a whole plan. There's a plan, a strategy for how to identify the most impactful habits and how to change them strategically, not through willpower. I mean, listen, of course we always use willpower, but we're not relying on willpower. We're relying on strategy and mindset to change your will, your habits in a strategic, intelligent, practical way. When's the last time you did that? You know, I mean, like I know that ideas of exist. Emotions, right? I want to see the emotions. I'm excited. I can't wait to look through this. I haven't looked through it yet, but even emotions, right? So it's like you probably identify as an emotional leader, I'm gonna guess, right? But have you ever really deep dive into emotions, right? So if you're an emotional leader, how do you deal with it? Right? Well, you got to deal with your emotions. You know what I mean? Like, that's what I'm talking about. There's a whole section on emotions. What emotions do you want to feel more of? What shitty emotions do you feel all the time that you want to be able to manage more effectively without food? You know what I mean? Like, ever thought of that? So again, having all this stuff is, is, is really, really helpful and it breaks it down. So anyways, yes, Cheryl says how do we get the book again? This book here. If you're in the program, I will send an email out and I will.
In the Circle app, I'll put a link too. If you're in the Circle app. If you're not, if you're in the program, you're not in the Circle app. Please send me a message. You got to get in there, right? Circle app. It's awesome and it's just going to get better. I'm putting a bunch of cool stuff, focusing on that. That's going to be a new real big focus for me. So if you're in the program. That's how you get this book. Again, I do have another book that I believe will be done. And I always say this all the time. This, this time I really, this book's really like 80, 85% done. And it's just a shorter, easier book. And I love it. But that's. That should be ready to go by the end of the month. And I will let you know about that. That I'll just be selling through Amazon. So that'll be a much easier one. This one here is a little harder because.
If you care about books, the. This is a spiral bound, right? And so like Amazon doesn't spiral bound, they only do perfect binding, which is like a book binding, you know. And so I wanted this to be able to go flat so you could write on it easily.
So that makes it a little harder to source it, you know what I mean? So I just ordered a bunch of them and I'll be just shipping these out myself.
And as I move forward, I'm not sure how I'm going to manage that. But anyways, the next book is just a regular old book and so I'll be able to sell it through Amazon. Just be easier. But yeah, Shell says I just found out about you yesterday. Oh, welcome, Cheryl. Yeah, Cheryl, make sure you get on my email list. That's. That's kind of the first important step. Go sign up for the free hypnosis session. I'll put the link in there because I see you're on YouTube.
Yeah, Linda, if you're in the program. So here, here's the deal, right? So if you're in the program, you should have already got an email for Circle, but maybe you missed it. That's fine. So email me at jimprogram yourself then.com and I will send you a link to get into the circle. Because right now Circle is only for my clients, okay? And if you're not in the program and you want to get in circle, just make sure you're on my email list because I'm going to have a whole free section there. And so make sure that you're on my email list. I'll let you know about it. But for you, Cheryl, I'm going to put this link in there. If you haven't gotten into my.
Onto the email list yet. You want to do that because this is free, okay? So again, no one gives you more free stuff than me for weight loss. So I just put that link in there. Go there, put your, you know, it takes you two seconds to fill out A couple of things and then you instantly are brought. There's a video training and then I email you. The hypnosis session takes like two, three minutes and you'll have that. Then you're on my email list and I'll let you know what's going on with stuff.
Yeah. Jbs, what do you have to do to get one of those? Yeah, that's just again getting. Just joining the program. Yeah. It's beautiful, right? It is beautiful. It's so cool looking. It's shiny, it's nice and it's. It really is. Right. I gotta tell you, I've been. I've been doing this work for over 20 years but it's been almost. It's all digital, you know, I mean like I've been working online for 20 over 20 years and that's great and all but it is interesting how it's so different having like a real thing in your hands. This is cool. And I've had like I showed you that before. I had another program where I made up.
I'm not gonna get it but it's just. It's my Thrive program. Used to send out a planner every month. But so this is the first thing since then. And this thing is just like. This is the real deal, you know, it's all laid out. Nice. All right, I gotta put it down. I'm gonna keep looking. It's exciting though. It's really fun. Yeah. Spiral binding is awesome. So yeah, you can write in it real easily and. And it's just easier to interface with. I think for a lot of people it just feels different, you know. Again, I love reading digital stuff but even me like I don't really read on the Kindle. I read a lot but I don't really like the Kindle as much as I like a book. So yeah, kind of cool. Pretty exciting. Yes, I did do it. Thank you. Yes, I did it because like I said, I have had the goal weight blueprint. There's been a blueprint for literally I've been doing programming self Denver over 20 years. I should show you. I keep meaning to find that. I always want to show you like the first ad I ever made and I made it myself over 20 years ago. I just opened my hypnosis office. I was always focused on weight loss and program yourself then literally I've been teaching program yourself then for over 20 years. And so I got to find. I'm going to go through some of my old stuff. I'll show it to you. It's pretty fun stuff for Me, anyways. But it's my first ad I ever made, you know, that I put up and it's so, it's actually, I think it's pretty good. But it's so funny. I mean, it's like seeing this thing, it's, it's really cool. I'm really happy with how it came out. So. Yeah.
Look at that one. I want to see a cool picture. It's the old lifestyle blueprint. Pretty neat. Pretty neat. So, yeah, anyways.
Yeah, you love spiral binding. Yeah, it is good. Tick top shop. No. Oh, you know what, I wonder. Like I said, this, this thing really is, you know, I'm not trying to tease anyone, please understand. I'm just excited about. I want to show it. But this is really like, this is. You can think of like a course book, you know, I mean that's kind of the way to think of it. So this is really for the program. And then again it's a commitment, you know, I mean, so it's like I, I wouldn't even sell this on its own ever anyways, you know, because I don't, I don't like selling half ass solutions. The books that I'm going to put out, that I am going to sell are full solutions. They're just a lighter level of it, you know what I mean? But it's going to be a full. You're going to have an experience. Wait till you see this book. It's so good. I've been reading it. I'm like, I love it, I love it. So I can't wait for you all to get it. You're going to love it and that'll give you a real sense of what this program is all about. But this book here, I mean, this is when you're committed, you know, I mean, this is when you sign up for college and you're ready to do it. That's what this is for. So again, I don't mean to tease anyone. It takes, you know, it takes some focus to get through this. I'm not going to you. You know, it's 144 pages of information and questions. But once you got it, it's like.
Your roadmap, you know, to living at your goal weight. And the beauty is too like, like. So then you struggle with something. You can go back to this and diagnose it. Is it a mindset issue? Specifically? Is it a motivation issue? Is it thinking issue? Just kind of your thinks and thoughts, can't get them straight. Is it a maintenance issue? Right. You're struggling with maintenance because you're just dealing with time of stress. You got your answers right in here, you know, that's the difference. And so that right off the bat is going to make you feel different with your process compared to dieting. Right where we're dieting, you just have no. There's no real.
There's no granular understanding with dieting. You know what I mean? It's always just like.
Dieting is so simplistic. I always, like, metaphorically. I always compare dieting to, like, just say no. Remember, just say no to drugs back in the 80s. That's what I always think of dieting, like, because. Oh, just say no. Oh, okay. Is that it? Is that all we got to do? You know, obviously there's more to drug addiction than. I shouldn't have said that. D word. They'll ban me on TikTok. But there's obviously more to addiction than just saying no, you know, and. And there's obviously more to losing weight than just saying no to unhealthy foods, obviously, you know, and so I think when you start diving deeper into the different aspects of. Of weight loss and transformation, that becomes very obvious. And once you recognize those pieces.
You know, it's. I'm not saying it's the easiest thing, but what I am saying is it gives you a sense of, oh, okay, at least there's some explanation here. Because I know most dieters, what they struggle with, and especially my clients. Yeah, I'm making. I'm talking about my client dieters, which are overthinkers, perfectionist action takers. Those are my people. And when they are unsuccessful losing weight, what they tend to do is constantly try and figure out what's wrong with them, how come I can't follow the diet, and they can spend their whole lives wondering that. And so what I find is best for those people is to start using their big brains and all their thinking to move in the direction they want to go in. What do you want to look like? What do you want to feel like? How do you want to eat? How do you want to think? How do you want to live? And getting clear on that. And once you're clear on that, again, that's the first step. And then we work on programming it in and that. That's what it. That's what it does.
Yeah. Okay. Christine. Yep. How much your program. If I join today? Christine, shoot me a link. You. You're okay, you received the emails. Shoot me a link. Christine at Jim at program yourself then.com and I'll hook You up. Okay. And that's almost. I know. I haven't said. I know, I know the price. The price is going up, I promise you. It's just that, you know, things take longer than you think, you know? So again, I gotta. I gotta change a few things, but I promise you that the price is going up. I'm not just gonna do this forever where I keep. Keep it there. I just do it because I was waiting for this to come in, you know, I mean, like so. But again, the whole process of the program is changing. So. Yeah, Christine, if you want to shoot me an email, Jim at program yourself then dot com, I'll. I'll hook you up with something.
Yeah, Darlene says I'm working on filling the book out bit by bit. Take some real thought with it. Yeah, it does. Again, I wouldn't. I'm not trying to trick anyone here, you know, I mean, I want you to know this program is.
It's, again, it's for a specific type of person, you know, I'm not saying you have to go to college to do this program, obviously, but you've got to be willing to watch trainings, go through this book, you know, take a bit of time to reflect, write down your answers, type out your answers however you want to do it, listen to the set. I mean, it's a commitment, you know, it's. Again, it's. I think of it like college for weight mastery. And I don't know, I don't see anything in life that really is that worthwhile, that doesn't take some effort and time and energy. And so again, my clients don't shy away from that. But my clients are constantly work on this stuff anyways. They're, they're constantly reading books, they're constantly listening to podcasts, reading articles, trying different stuff. Problem is, none of them are really giving them what they need. So, you know, coming into the program, they're not worried about, you know, the work of it. They're happy to do that. They're already doing it. They're just happy to finally get real solid information that really moves the dial for them, you know. But again, I am very forthright with saying that program yourself then is not for most people. You know, it really is for people that are overthinking, action taking perfectionists, you know, that, that are willing to put the work in and do it. But if you're willing to do that work.
Metaphorically, I always explain, you know, again, wait, you feel so frustrated and apathetic about it, but it's because you're never really taught a real plan. You know, what you're given is just this real simplistic idea, right? Every diet is a simplistic idea. Every diet. What are you going to do? You're going to stop eating carbs, stop eating for 16 hours, count your points, track your macros, you know, whatever. It's. So it's always like one big thing you're going to do. I'm here to tell you there's no one big thing you're going to do to change your weight. There's lots of things you have to do. You need a comprehensive holistic plan, in my opinion, you know, and, and I don't shy away from that. So again, even last year I was joke. Last year I took part of the program out. Part of the program is called Goal Weight, the Goal Weight Hypnosis System. It's an eight week hypnosis program which really bookends your day. You start the day with a 5 minute hypnosis session, end it with a 10 minute hypnosis session. By the end of the 8 weeks you've listened to like 67 hypnosis sessions and you've gotten really good at relaxing and feeling calm and you got all these new ideas in your head. And I sold that just by itself and I got good feedback on it, but I just didn't like it because it's not the full answer, you know. And so to me it's like if you, again, even if you don't have mechanical ability or numerical ability, if you go sign up for mechanic school or accounting school and you actually go and do the work and do everything, you're going to come out the other side a mechanic or an accountant, regardless of your ability in the beginning. And I feel like it's the same thing here. If you put the time and energy to filling this out and really thinking about yourself and your weight in this paradigm, it's transformative because you never hit a dead end again. That's what the thing with the diet, you keep hitting a dead end, you know, because you keep, you start the diet and you're doing everything perfect and at some point something goes wrong and now you can't get yourself to do anything. And you keep repeating that cycle. And so the real secret is to approach it differently and again, to not do extreme stuff in the beginning, to start playing this for the long run. You know, it's like if you sign up for college, you're not going to cram. Day one, stay up all night pulling all night, or the first week of school, the first month of school. Right. If you do, you're going to burn yourself out. But that's what you're doing with the diets is you're burning yourself out so quick you can't stick with it. You know, Jamie's Pet Rescue. Is it a one time charge or a monthly annual. No, the program is a one time charge. So it's. Yeah, this whole program is. You pay one time and you have it forever. And not only do you have it forever, but you also have access to lifetime updates. And at this point you even get lifetime access to the Tuesday Q and A calls. We do. And, and that's what's coming down the pike too. For, for program yourself then is that one of the big shifts I'm making is I'm, I'm pulling even more away from group coaching, private coaching, and I'm really going to be focusing a lot of my energy on the program. Okay. So, so basically what that's going to mean is.
I hesitate to use this word, but there's going to be more coaching from me. And I say coaching, it's not the direct. Like right now my coaching is like we get on Zoom and I'm talking to you face to virtual face. Right. And so I can go really deep with people, but I can only do that for a few people at a time. The coaching here is more like you can type in whatever questions you have about the program and I can answer them in real time. And so there's going to be more of that. And so that's really what's coming with program yourself than the program is. There's just going to be a lot more support coming through. And it's going to come through the Circle app. It's going to come through trainings and things that I'm going to offer and you're just going to feel even more supported. And the beauty is that support is going to last. At least right now that support lasts forever. So you're going to have like lifetime. At least at this moment, you're going to have lifetime access to the Q and A calls. So, you know, you get started and you know, 10 weeks from now you got a question, you pop on there and ask me the question, you know, so I'll always be there to help you out. So that's really exciting and that's going to really change a lot. And then when the book's coming, it's just all coming together. It's really exciting. This is the first big kind of physical thing, but There's a lot of cool things coming, and I'm excited because they're the easier things. This thing, I will tell you, like I said, I had this blueprint I've had in some form or another for over 20 years, but really.
Even a couple years ago, maybe three years ago, I redesigned this whole thing and did it. And then in January of this year, I spent, like, six months going through this and really tweaking and making it really, really good. And then I got designed and all the rest of it, so it's. It's the best version by a mile. And so it took quite a bit of work, but it did set me up for these next pieces coming up. So anyways, you know, like, those are. Those are all the things that are happening. Yeah. Lindsay says, I think your approach is very interesting. It is really interesting. I'm not here to toot my own horn, but I have no time to bullshit you either. And when it comes to weight loss, you've been bullshitted. You know, you've been just fed diet after diet after diet, you know, simplistic solution after simplistic solution. And the truth is, you know, you may not want to hear this, but I'm not here to bullshit you, is that it just. It takes a real approach. You know what I mean? Like, if. And if you approach it that way, yes, it's a little bit more work. You know, maybe it's naughty. That's another question. Because I find dieting to be really tiring and difficult, and I find this approach. Yeah, it may take a little bit longer to tell her a thought, but embedded in the into program yourself, then, is taking at a comfortable level. I find most clients. It's funny, I got a chance to speak to a new. A new member yesterday, and she.
She. We were just. We got to. I got to talk to her, and she was saying, you know, I'm just so overwhelmed. I'm just so overextended. And this is so common. I'm gonna say the majority of my clients are probably women between the ages of 45 and 65, 70. Okay. And what happens is they've just gotten to the pattern. I mean, really, most people in America are like this at this point, but especially women, and especially if you're a mom and working and whatever. And it's like you're just used to being overextended. You're always just giving more than you've got. You know, I was running on credit, and you're just exhausted. And so for so many people, the real Answer is not to dive into another strict plan that's really tiring. It is to.
Take a step back and start to recover, recuperate, get some rest, calm down, relax.
Now let's start working on it. You know what I mean though? But the, the foundation is your calm. It's your relaxation, it's your energy. And I think dieting, you know, it's like you're already up to here, right? Life's just overwhelming. You're, you're up to here and then you want to start a diet and now it's going to put you up to here, and it's like you just don't have the energy to do it. I can't think of, I can't think of much better way to stress yourself out to the max than to start doing a keto plan tomorrow or to start trying to do intermittent fasting tomorrow and then forever. Right? Because that's what it is. But I can't think of much better way to really stress yourself out to the max than to start some diet. Even Weight Watchers. Because I know Weight Watchers. Oh, it's not extreme. Oh really? Tracking every single food you eat is not extreme. You can call it points. Points sounds more whimsical than calories. Fine, but it's the same thing and it's tiring. You're already, you're already up to here. You're just barely getting through the day with what you've already got to do. So to add a whole nother huge responsibility to that just is crazy. So with program yourself, then you know how you start the program. You're going to start it officially tomorrow morning. Whatever day you start, you start it officially tomorrow morning. Now again, you get access to the whole program. You start it as soon as you sign up, but it's tomorrow morning. You get your first 5 minute morning hypnosis session sent to you. You'll get like six in the morning, and the goal is to sit for five minutes listening to this. And you know what people overlook with hypnosis is yes, you're, I'm saying words and I'm changing how you think and all the rest of it. But maybe even more importantly, I'm helping you to relax. I'm helping you to breathe, relax your body.
Step into the present moment. If you do it right now, you'll feel the power of it. If you stop for one second and relax, your shoulders, your chest, your stomach, your face, your jaw.
Connect to your breath. Slowly exhale it out and then inhale comfortably.
You feel more Centered and grounded. You feel more present in the moment. And from that place, magical things start to happen. You start to feel better physically. You start to think better cognitively. You start to feel better emotionally. And it puts you in a position to naturally make better choices. And that's the secret to program yourself then, is that, you know, I always say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of willpower. So instead of just relying on willpower and white knuckling your way through your weight loss, what we're looking to do is strategically center and ground yourself into a calm, relaxed place. Now think about your life, right? Think about all the things you got to do. Think about all the different ways you get overwhelmed. Now imagine having the ability to decompress even in those situations, to be able to bring yourself down a couple notches. It just feels good. And I bet you'll feel like more like yourself when you do that. That's the key thing. When you bring yourself down and you relax, you step in the present moment, you calm down, you feel connected and grounded to who you truly are. And that's the purpose of program yourself then, is to connect to who you truly are. Because it. It's in there. She's in there, okay? And we want to connect to it. And when you connect to it instantly, right, you feel. Even now, and there's again, that that level of connection can get stronger, obviously. But isn't it interesting that just literally taking 10 seconds to relax your shoulders, your chest, your stomach, your face, your jaw.
To take a deep, relaxing breath.
To slowly let it out, every time you do that, you feel more connected to that person inside you. And that's the secret, is we want to connect to that you inside of you who's more calm and grounded and let that version of you start to make the decisions. And that's how you start to get magical results, right? So, yeah, Lindsay says it seems to be a way to address more of the core reasons why we continue to be as we are. Overweight, for example. Yeah, exactly. Right now, at this point, for most people, if you're overweight, the fascinating part of it is that you're overweight on autopilot. You're just like, if you're not thinking about food and you're just living your life the way that you live, the way that you eat, the way that you think you just stay overweight, which is to say your natural program setting at this point, your mindset at this point, the natural one for you is an overweight mindset. And so what we're looking to and program yourself, then, is to reprogram your subconscious mind so that your natural way of being is to be thin, healthy, and happy. And to do that, in my opinion, you need to shift your mindset, your lifestyle, and your reading so it supports that. But if you do it strategically, calmly, it's not rocket science. It's just that you've never tried it this way. And what happens when you approach it this way is just. Absolutely. You're right on the money, Lindsay, that when. When you approach it this way, you really are dealing with the core issues. Because dieting is really just dealing with the symptom, right? You're. You're hungry all the time. You have unhealthy cravings, you can't stop yourself from eating. You're addicted to sugar, and you try and stop those things, but those things are symptoms of a deeper problem. The deeper problem, you're stressed to the gills, you're overtired, you're dehydrated, you're undernourished, right? And it goes on and on. And so when you deal with these core issues, not only does it make it easier to lose weight, but more importantly, it makes you feel better almost instantaneously. I always say this. It's shocking how easy it is to feel better.
Almost instantly. Like, it's shocking because this is what I learned as a hypnotist. The very first thing I learned as a hypnotist is that I could take a person and within 10 minutes of meeting this stranger, I could make them more relaxed than usually they ever felt in their life. Which is to say, I could instantly help them to feel better than they'd felt in a long time. And it wasn't magic. It was just focusing on specific things, you know? So when you start doing this and you start to deal with the core issues, it really changes things in a very dramatic way, but in a way that also feels comfortable. And that's what you want. You want dramatic changes that feel relatively easy and comfortable to create. And what dieting is teaching you is that you've got an absolutely white knuckle.
You know, no pain, no gain it. And I find that to be complete nutter if you want to live at your goal weight. So what's up, Joan? Joan says connection. Such a good word for how healthy feels. Yeah, agreed. Agreed. It's connecting to that feeling inside of you. It's inside of you, folks. It's inside of all of you. You may not have connected to it for a while, so you've made the mistake of thinking it's gone, but it's not. I promise you. It's inside of you. That's what I learned being a hypnotist. I could connect people to that almost instantaneously. And so it's not. It's not that difficult. You just never learned how to do it. And once you know how to do it, it's very exciting.
