Stop Doubting Yourself and Lose Weight

Transcript of a Jim Katsoulis YouTube podcast episode focused on overcoming self-doubt to achieve sustainable weight loss. Katsoulis argues that repeated dieting fails long-term because plans are separated from the person; instead he advocates mastering mindset, lifestyle habits, energy management and flexible personalized strategies (e.g., 'clean' vs 'pleasure' days). The talk mixes practical habits (sleep, meditation, energy, flexible eating), reframing mistakes as learning, and coaching-style Q&A with listeners.

All right.
Everyone. Welcome to today's prem podcast. We're talking about stop doubting yourself and lose weight. And I think in that order I think hard to lose weight and you doubt yourself at least to lose long term. So there's a chance you doubt yourself you believe really going to do so many times it has why this time being different. You got a whole history of proof you can't do this. It's probably how you think the down inside and so.
Fight very fundamental poor doubt that you're going to be to lose weight and stay with something. The chances of actually sticking with are almost no almost zero. So how do we deal with this whole thing? How do you look at the doubt you have about yourself and get transformed so you start to believe in yourself so they believe if I have to work I don't want that's what we want certainty that comes way to believe in yourself now first understand take one the other is that the core reason you doubt yourself is because D doesn't work ding does not work. It may help you a lot long term and know this. You tried so many different guys you've tried so many different times. You know deeper and so lot really about you. It's about your strategy about itself. And if all the time you had a plan re in front of you and it was.
Like okay, a lot of work it's going to take you a while but if you start here consistently do this work and you keep doing the work you're going to end up here. And there's a leaf keep going forward, keep doing this I'm on And that doesn't make this wit loss because you've never learned a way to believe in the dieting basically told you what to do and that stuff up to you figure out how to get yourself to do it. They've always withheld most important me which is how do you get yourself to do it? How do you change your mind? How do you change the way you think and feel and behave the way it truly really resonates and works for you. And if you ask that question you clearly have no clue. You don't get out of change your thinking no idea how to change your feels your behaviors in fundamental way you never learned it so this is realized doubting they may feel about yourself Weight loss is not about you. It's about diet Coret because you're really need to lose weight. I'm here say do stick with it. There's another say you force yourself you don't want to do and anytime you don't want to do not do for long and let you great results. So yeah the secretary of removing the doubt you may feel about yourself ever losing me starts by questioning your method, your strategy you're planning on using and realizing that dieting is never going to do it. Just drive that point home. We have never had diet in our lives. We've had the last 50 years and the average American is 75 of Marine adults are over obese. So if dieting worked all how did that number exist? The number I'll share with you that's the 95 dead that lose weight on diet. So actually sink to the goal weight 95 put it back on. So dying in no way has proven itself to effective. It may help you lose with a little while it is absolutely ineffective long term and I believe this is a core reason I did it work because you bow in the plan separate the plan from yourself and realize get right hand you are a person. Take action in what you want, look the plan, follow it, polish work, family relationships, you have sense what to do your will work, you sabotage your salary, doubt yourself when you don't really have a plan when you don't have a plan made for you. And that's the big core reason why you have yourself. And so the more you spend this, the more you try to recognize this, realize this, the more solid you're going to look to find out the real solution for you, right? So if you're looking for support.
If I have any questions.
As they say that's better than ever. Someone's finally agree with that too because again in the day you know we have a knife where we want to succeed but the end of the day succeeding is far more enjoyable than not. So whether that success immediately takes a little while.
Was the idea of.
Motion versus motivation. Because so much of motion about getting to your goal weight you know you've lost put that on that not goal so hue be able to keep up. And the more you focus on the journey of improving yourself improving after those areas if you master your weight those are the ingredients, right? Those the skills you need to master your weight in the first place. So.
Never learned how managing mindset lifestyle and not even eating. There is a difference between tell you what to eat and you figuring it out for yourself what works best for you. Those are two holly banks they also nothing with each other. So it really is crucial that you recognize that your weight really is a never ending journey if you'd like to meet your goal for your life. If that's the case we want some. You do. So you want to live your goal for the rest of your life. It's really important that you see this never ending journey. And of course you need evolve for situations. You also build your successes. So again you approach your weight with a science of master and focusing on journey. It set you up to evolve and imagine. Because most think about weight loss is at first initial phase of doing something right. So it's like for you anything high six as you've got and you repeating with keep repeating at first phase. Now you dump your diet you 100% they completely wet and you perfect police and process going on. But problem with that process is you always stay stuck the first phase. The first phase is not good first phase really. So when you start thinking long term thing be that is they better you stand up your own shoulders skills mindset new lifestyle, new understandings. You can do this. You know there so many different times keep your face with something that that's the process of mastery. And.
Ever.
I love. I love Dieter and I die. I'm just pointing out that mindset and how silly it is. But you know for a while you know again I didn't know what to do. But please never see that you know to do. If you knew what to do. You do it. You know. So it's weird. It's a mental illusion yourself and you say I'll do it myself to do it. That doesn't mean anything.
Feel free to ask them here to Andrew no matter what you do.
Because he's a silly guy but do it. And so I'm still had to help him out but at some point keep people always realize.
But anyway I've worked for a while it was professionally for 20 years. So I appreciate that.
Let's see. Nancy says what's your look like?
It's an question of course like you know. That's why as I hate to say it because I think that.
Someone told you someone that same thing. There's no like real thought but it to. Well does that work for me? You know because if I tell you my me is it's like.
But I just want to preface by saying it almost doesn't matter what I'm saying because not me.
Genetics. It's illusion me telling you what I eat in some way help you don't think it is there principles of weight loss and are universal and you can't break them. And so I prefer following those those rules and customizing BO in the sake of not trying to eat people.
Like now you have me Harry. I Don't know.
Please folks, I promise you.
Pleasure days. These are the kind of containers I use to describe the days where I mean focus on eating for full and days where I mean focus fun as over. So my clean days I eat for fun days. I mean for full. Okay so it's a little. It's not dry. Those are down categories of low. So about five days a week. My goals to eat cleanly, eat for clean fuel to fill my body. And other days I'm more interested in enjoying food for fun. Poppies, you know, good desserts, stuff like that. Okay, so I cleaned a A typical clean day for me. Very consistent clean day. Breakfast, dinner, pleasure days of typically dinner, skip lunch. So let's kind of structure that and that typically for me may be zealous toast with natural heat butter and apple and peanut butter. For breakfast a few salad with you know, 8, 10 fruits of vegetables in it. For lunch dinner could be depending on the daddy it could be like dates and rice and some vegetables could be oh God. What's my best soup on my plate yesterday got 10 vegetables amazing. I had some ass bread normally flour sugar mic days but with that but yeah typical now my shape pretty much the same days didn't change but they're the same to eat cleanly meaning okay. I look to avoid processed foods look to white flour, sugar, alcohol, things like that. I'm very rarely 100% you know that's the attention. So yeah it's kind.
That's focusing on. It's interesting you know really because for me I auto fit years ago and I the same weight 30 for the last 30 years and the 1314 years ago. But outside that I've purchased the same weight and there isn't the same way I have not worked out in a consistent way. So the way that I managed and mastered my weight is to match my eating. That all focuses easiest for me and longest in the sustainable strategy because I knew like really if made all the working out.
Because you know working out really and the weight loss. Okay so ultimately impact your weight is your ability to impact your you. For 30 years. So I've been.
I absolutely love it. I every day I look forward to it. I love it. A perfect pleasure and fun design for me. Then of course I still throw up sometimes. But it's E track because it doesn't make for me I love it. You know those people that I always had experience because your diet experience really you know you're gonna force yourself to call someone's plan and that's all this intrinsic action to it it's not for you So I don't have attention who I am so f. I'm sorry vegetarian I mean.
It highlights diets people and that makes a little bit.
I do eat you egg clams you know eat some salmon you know eat some in there but you know but probably you know clams on the week fish you know and so primarily I'm virtually vegan. You know I really very little dairy, very little butter do eggs but you know just like with so many I really want a veg line but.
Especially nowadays just the one you have to remember is that the more rigid plan is less likely to work for you. It's very rigid fashion. So I think you know so crucial to have some flexibility and some black ability and ability to absorb just reality. You know job relationships Mango. So I think you have the ability to kind of adjust I always say mastering weight sounds like surfing and.
Changing so you need to be in moment engaged adjusting to. Yeah I think this is a much more accurate way to look at processing this idea that you get yours there you mean. Yeah the idea that's why I can't imagine right.
It also means what you did get your old was never continue so again it really obvious to have no plan no plan for how to maintain your old age. I can say the word as what do you do I'll figure it out here. Unfortunately Mar says.
That'S a good question. So relative okay so I've been for 30 years. I've been talk for 30 years. So if you start playing last week we are on completely different levels and I want to talk to you and children.
So the positive math is relative. That's. That's really important.
I go to coffee shop and there.
I better at it because when I do have screw ups or habits are bugging off track haven't so that mistakes in the program so don't we'll run away from mistakes make them learn from so yeah mistakes I make they keep getting better at better but correct it. This one is snacking at night. It's kind of handling so you know you handle snacking night.
Again that you know cubic psychology from that idea. So really what's more likely to happen is you snack at night you want stop snacking weight and back and forth to the point where you don't anymore.
Nights now but so that was one but yeah.
Snacking twin meals craving eating too much at lunch.
Now much going up you know it's been caught up on stuffing caught on cookies getting tired and turned to food he's trying to turn to the food. You know. But that's different for me. And I say this is the most important piece my opinion. It's funny I'm saying like I'll give you example last week right. So last week I got my daughter of college right. And the smurf school just things changing to be honest.
Have ask with you here you tired from the emotional physical.
So really focused on resting. So.
That when I screw up I learn from it or I understand more from it. So you make a mistake.
Any sense. And so I think that I will I will sit my sake and I will be with them and what them and what I can do next time. And that plus 30 years.
It just happens as I mentioned for me people.
Yeah I like that. And so I would reframe that whole process. You know and it would be frame it this way. You don't stop bing now if you start thinking as problem. I think more effective that they need usually for most people is doing something positive for you really do things are negative reasons. You know we do things have negative effects for positive reasons like bing emotional so you know it's not so much for you need to find better ways to manage our oceans manage your mindset so you stop binging. Also stress because promote people it serve purpose. The purpose it serves it releases the pressure should last for a little bit to hear me not distress let you feel better for a few moments. Okay so in good for you. But in negative okay but in minutes it's best you probably have I bet that being specifically IND is probably most effective strategy. You have to heal stress or loneliness depression or some negative emotional state. What are you guys. And so you want to stop. If you stop injuring your stop motion now you're just a thin lonely person thin trust person thin. That's great. It's not I promise it's not. It's better but it's only great most important you still have manage your emotions so to me section of the program and deal emotions emotions.
And will do that. Now all of a sudden when you food well you can imagine now all of a sudden you couple weeks you know months and there successfully so.
Thank you for watching.
I think this blowout are just absolutely exhausted. I think most people are dragging and I think that's the whole reason why struggles so much. It's so hard to gauge anything. You're exhausted. You know your exhaust is do a digital routine. And the very first thing we do is focus on your energy getting you re energized because without any Determining extra in ginger reading extra. So yeah, I get it. Paradise. I always say that personally folks, not really my energy. I'm really like focused on my energy and where it's at. And if my energy's dipping low, I will do things to get energy back up. That's not good. Okay so folks like getting more sleep, taking more astro more water, going for some walks, sleeping if I can't rest more at night, you know. And so I will create ways to get energy back up and again. Look at that. Because you are. If you don't get your energy up then you're constantly lying. And if you spend that energy you send that focus up pretty naturally. Chases this just flow better.
As well. And you gotta get him on stress. You know, just. I think it's a way of the world at this point.
You know.
I was younger but you know, I realized I was digging myself pit and Jake pit. And it was hard. It was hard decision 25 times. When I was 14 years ago my son just born as she sleeper. We just moved in the house now we the entire house. I was running my own business. So it was like it's one of the most.
Is a lot. And that was when I you know, kind of fell back to my eating habits and putting my pound on.
It's very difficult to succeed in drive when you're in Boston. So a lot of us just assume a lot of exhaustion. That does not need be assumed. We can rest and plan ourselves much more than we think we can. We've been taught to be exhausted all the time. We've been taught be depleted overwork, overextended over capacity in American culture and seem like normal world. But I can echo. So to me that's focusing on my energy level and I find it more energy that everything goes. That's a cool thing too. Eating your health.
More energy. You know, things flow. You're kind of flust. So the truth means I stay in a flow state a lot now. That kind of my goal. That's. And so I just feel that it really is for me everything's like okay, you know.
You know it is okay. Going to hold at the edges there.
Like all sudden energy low. That comes number one back normal. And.
Because you can always. You can always save more energy and yourself more energy. And I said you. I look. I consistently look back at 1.5. If I go back totally different. So even having all responsibility situations at that time I could have handled better. Now please and gentlemen here because having fruit challenge situations are energy depletes. Oh Goodness right. We almost don't realize it. One of my favorite things is like insomnia sleep state. And for us it goes near over tired is your awareness. So I can look at that and realize this is no off effect, you know. And again I would have made if this is bad energy level stay up.
Lots of their really stressful, even difficult, challenging times too. Okay. So yeah, so much of your successive ways and this is something that's probably you probably levels other than saying. But probably have no real multiled strategy for how to get your energy levels boosted out again. And.
Absolutely.
This is a true story. Let's say I'm going to say four, five years ago doesn't matter. Four, five years ago I started notice how my waking up maybe be like two four o'. Clock. Let's say on average I just wake up and I say wake up. Like oh boom, I'm up, right. It's for a while sat there and I was saying I would look for that. And one thing I learned for is that if get up 15 minutes as soon as you start saying.
I get up and I meditate meditating at that time for five years. And I telling this the first few times I meditated during the time I would meditate and let energy that I woke up energy go straight to my brain. My brain kind of free out of every little worry that I had my body following. I got a meditated, took that energy and meditated and the energy kind of. And I back asp all wake up. And that's what I started doing. And here I am or 5 years later I wake up every single night and I meditate and I go to bed. I was joking. I wake up like the name random annoyed. So my point is this, that.
Where the kid looks soon he goes, you can't spoon. It's a hustle. You can remember there's no spoon and you have your mind. Okay. So a lot of times we say healthy energize. Well that's saying what I'm going to say is get up about it, wake up. I frustrated in the strategy resolve it for me and I don't mind.
So what I'm saying is the answer to this issue for me anyways is not trying to force myself to sleep. It was being situation.
Adapted to it when it felt right for me. And now I have solution on my puzzle, you see. So to get a lot of wisdom in that whole thing.
By the way, something I learned through this process is that people were binaural meaning they will sleep. They were sleep quite a day 12 o' clock in the morning. So it was crazy. That's how a lot of people lived and I added like people and I remember reading feeling like so validated because so good.
But if yeah two o' clock there seem to be some time you wake up two o' clock and you're in full dream mode. This is the big problem. You wake up two o' clock and full dreams you l in bed. What do you think about and you think about two o' clock is worries and stresses of your life. When you think about the wor stress in your life in this hyper real state it's a bad experience she like more intense. You mean so like you think of the stresses you have in your life but you're thinking about such a vis way I know I'm way up to freaking out on like full panic something I wake up.
You seek rain you're free.
Out of two and there's in lasers and cancer getting.
I mean like on average maybe tw half hour exhausted I just 5 minutes so.
Years.
For you But I also say between two to four.
I really do think that the average quiet it's just my favorite Tim at all times a day and night my favorite time is mine just has so I I love big fan of it and then my life now this is the point to make is that never mind how tired you know a big part of this is how I go to sleep because when you go to bed worried you're going way up to four it's like you make quality sleep there you because you're already you're already nervous they're going to you're already kind of expecting it and then happens in.
And so no I'm good.
But even in early days virtually good as.
And it's working really well and now comes so full circle I literally I don't wake up on so again and how much this can change you know But I think in this situation genuinely in honest I think you're more likely to find strategies.
Your name is.
And it says weakness. Yeah.
Your weakness is not you can't stop yourself from being bored. That's not the weakness. The weakness is that you're a little bit of a boring person.
What I'm saying is if you get bored you have no way to entertain yourself other than food. That's bigger issue. So weakness is they don't know how to stop yourself feeding your board Weakness is that you don't have a lot of interesting things to do food when you're bored that actually interest.
Yes.
To the podcast is great I have a lot of people tell me walking and I think the right idea because I don't speak understand it even being on the podcast even right here I am using conversational hypnisis I'm helping you out when you I don't say stall ideas but I'm making suggestions they're going to move you in the Russian get control every week and so angelized to help people as possible.
So this.
Live every Monday through Friday here on Eastern if you can make a live podcast.
For a long time.
I don't believe.
He did what to do to be interested but have support this encourage all that stuff this the support system and learn how to run your own mind how to get and then knowing exactly what you should do to get yourself out your life so I think a comprehend holistic approach to truly your way I don't think is enough don't think if I just sessions it would be long term so I just want I think it's very important Excuse me excuse me my voice.
I talk so much with a mad person I mean I just talking just for hours and hours now anyways so yeah but.
He needed to really change this it's worth it anyway.
And I'm not exciting the scene working in the way coming out I'm finishing probably in a week or two it's pulling out a lot I can't for you to read it stories.
