Weight Loss Is More Complicated Than You Think

Jim Katsoulis explains why quick-fix diets fail and what actually works: building habits through hypnosis and routines, shifting your mindset, and avoiding all-or-nothing thinking. He uses the holiday season as a chance to practice small, sustainable changes rather than waiting for January.

Hey, everyone. Welcome to today's program Yourself Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about weight loss being more complicated than you may think it is, which isn't a bad thing. Okay, I'm going to start off right by saying that that a lot of times I think we associate complicated with worse or more difficult. But in reality, I think when you start to see your weight loss as being a more complicated process, ironically, you make it easier. Because I would rather recognize and realize and accept that things are complicated and more layered and complex than I want them to be than to imagine that they're really easy and keep trying easy strategies to make something complex work. And it doesn't work. And this is where I find a lot of dieters end up, is that they know it's obviously harder than what they've been told, right? It's harder than just being given a diet and just following it. There's something more difficult, right? And so once you realize, yeah, it's difficult, and I haven't gotten the results I want because I haven't approached it with the comprehensive holistic strategy that I'm going to really need to accomplish this, right? I've been. What dieting has taught you to do is to approach your weight loss way too simplistically. It's taught you to think that the only thing you need to succeed with your weight is to be given a plan of either what to eat or how to exercise or how to live or whatever, and you'll just follow it and you'll lose weight. But again, obviously, there's more to it. You know that. And so once you realize, again, I'll give you my complex, complicated, you know, version of how to deal with your weight and program yourself, then we use the. The goalway pyramid, right? So we have mindset, lifestyle, and eating, right? And so we have all three of these things that we break down even more, right? So again, even a mindset breaks down into, you know, six other categories. Lifestyle, eight other habits, and eating, three other, you know, phases. And so we break it down. And at first, some people say, oh, my God, this is. It's too much. I don't want to think about all. I can't think about all that stuff, right? Just tell me what to do and I'll do it. That's the lie you got to wake up from. You know, you're certainly not one. Being told one thing to do differently away from being at your goal weight, right? It's more than that. It's understanding how to influence your thinking, how to influence Your lifestyle, how to influence your reading in a long term strategic way that's going to get you long term successful results. And it just takes more than just being told how to eat. So once you accept that, acknowledge that, then you can go to work on actually doing the work. And I think the clearest example I can see of this approach would be college. You know, or if you've ever done any kind of long term training program and it's broken up, right, you, you can't just learn four years of college in a semester. You just can't do that. You know, you have to learn multiple things. You have to take time. There's learning, there's growth, you have to build on top of things you already learned. There's a, there's a plan to it, right? And it's a comprehensive, holistic plan in order to start as a freshman and end up, you know, with your degree and all the knowledge, right? And so it's the same thing with weight. When you start to appreciate that there's more to it than just calories and macros and, you know, it's the simplistic of being told what to do and you start to realize the deeper layers that are truly, you know, the foundation of your success or failure. If you don't take care of them, then all of a sudden, again, at first it may seem a little overwhelming, but once you relax and calm down, oh, at least you now have a game to play, right, with the rules and all the different pieces of it, it makes sense. As opposed to dieting where you just keep trying this simple thing that never works and what ends up happening is you start creating the belief that I can't do this, there's nothing I can do to lose the weight. When in reality the only reason you haven't been able to lose the weight is because you've never learned how to change these other aspects of weight loss that you've never thought about or learned how to focus on. Which again is mindset, lifestyle and it's strategic eating, you know, so again, this goes beyond just oh, here's your meal plan, follow it, it's really eating and program yourself. Then is about how do I figure out a way to eat that works for me, that fits my lifestyle, that satisfies me, that still has, you know, the pleasure that I demand in life along with the weight loss and health goals I want too. But then we work the deeper levels as well, lifestyle, mindset and all these. So yeah, it is more complicated. You gotta trying to yourself, there are no Hacks around weight. There's no hacks around weight. Just like there's no hacks to getting your college degree. Either put the work in and do it or you don't. You, it's real simple that way. And with weight loss you've always been shown this path of, of hacks and trying to shortcut it and you know, trying to out outsmart the system. Listen, just do the work. If you just do the work, where you end up six months from now, a year from now, five years from now, ten years from now, is so fundamentally different that it's hard to even put into words. But the beauty is that not only you get better results, but the whole time, yes, it's more stuff to focus on and pay attention to, but it then gives you the opportunity to get good and improve on those things and to feel a genuine sense of movement forward. And that's what I would love for you to feel, because most dieters feel no sense of movement forward. They just feel like they're stuck in this hamster wheel, just kind of spinning around, you know, cycling through the exact same thing year after year after year after year. And so you chase these shortcuts, thinking they're going to be the easy quick fix. And you know, you take a second to look back, you say, holy. For 20 years I've been chasing shortcuts. At some point it's time to just commit to the real journey, commit to the path, and there is more to learn and understand. But it's so rewarding and it is so much more effective to do it this way than to try and cheat the system and, you know, again, try to do it instantly and without doing the real work. So again, once you recognize weight loss absolutely is more complicated than diets would lead you to believe. And that's okay because you can learn those components, master them and genuinely move forward with your weight. So I hope this makes sense to you. And if you want to go deeper into this way of thinking about your weight, click the link in my bio or go to program yourself then and go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. It's called the New thin me, about 10 minute session, right? It's a kickstart session and it's ready for it, ready to go for you. So just pop in there, you get that. I also made a training for you that's free as well. If you're on Facebook, I'll put the link in here. So you just click it. But if you're on Tick Tock, you can just click my bio picture and go get it. And you're, like I said, entering the program yourself then, and you can find it. There you go. Yeah. But if you have any questions, feel free to ask them again. I get here every day. Oh, I thought I was going to start earlier today, but. Oh, well. But I usually get here around noonish. Noonish, I would say.
To help answer any questions I can, you know, for weight. So any weight loss questions, feel free to ask them. I know it's a funny time to think about weight. I know a lot of people are still eating candy and what, Thanksgiving's a week away, two weeks away, so. Yeah, so that may be you, but my message to you is this. And this really, it goes deeper than just the message I'm going to share. It goes back to a mindset and program yourself. Then we're all or something, Right? Whereas a lot of dieters are all or nothing. And so if you're all or nothing at this moment in time, at this point in the year, you're probably going to struggle, right? If you're living a typical life where maybe you've been eating some candy, maybe you do have Halloween plan or Thanksgiving plans coming up, maybe you are doing stuff for, for the holidays. And if that's the case and you're an all or nothing person, it's going to be a tough month and a half for you, it's gonna be a tough life for you, but it's certainly a tough month and a half. Because if you're an all or nothing person, how are you gonna be all, how are you gonna be perfect and go through the holidays, you know, never overeating or eating the wrong thing or overdoing it. Sometimes you're gonna. And that's not a big deal. You know, it's. It's not a big deal if you make mistakes, it's not a big deal if you overeat.
You know, so being all or something during the holidays is probably the most important, valuable time to be all or something, right? So I hope that if you are interested or concerned with your weight, that you use this holiday season as an opportunity to get better, to get better and to start getting better today. Don't wait, don't wait. That's my big message. Do not wait until the first of the year. You know, I know even though a lot of people will, it just makes no sense. You've got to stop thinking that way. I think that is, in my opinion, the all or nothing mindset of a dieter is probably one of the most toxic mindsets you could have. Like, like genuinely, I, I think it absolutely just suffocates any possibility of success. You know, it just. Statistically, it just does not work out to be all or nothing, you know, because you're nothing too much of the time. Like, like for example. Right. Again, just as an example, let's just say you've been eating some candy and I like, oh, I gotta get back. Who gives a. You know, Thanksgiving's in two weeks. What's the point? And then Thanksgiving passes. Okay, I'm ready, I'm gonna. Oh, but they've got a party coming up in a week and a half. Yeah. You know what I mean? Next thing you know, you get six weeks, six, seven weeks of being completely off track, you know, and overeating and having all the extra stuff of the holidays. And then the new year comes. He's almost. New year comes, I'm gonna start all fresh and whatever again. Probably something you've said multiple times. And then the new year comes and you're not able to get started. Right. You're just, you're hungover from the last six weeks of, you know, so it's a dangerous path and it's full of bullshit. It's just not true. You're not going to start January 1st. You're going to be tired, you'll be exhausted, you put some weight on, you know, you're going to have sugar cravings. So again, in program yourself then people in the program, myself included, we will eat more food probably during the holidays. We might put a couple pounds on during the holidays, but we will still stay grounded with our core routines. And again, it comes back to, you know, mindset lifestyle and eating strategies that will remain. So while I may eat more food, I may more cookies and you know, just bullshit, I may drink some more wine over the holidays, I will still be drinking my water, eating my salads, getting my sleep, doing my meditation, you know, eating my apples. I'll be doing all the same stuff though, primarily, you know, and so that's what you can do as well, is get out of. You can use this holiday season primarily to get out of the all or nothing thinking and to just get better this holiday season than you were last holiday season, you know, and then that is what brings you up to the new year with some momentum. Right? Momentum is not only achieved when you lose a lot of weight. That's what you got to realize that a lot of times you can develop momentum through your behaviors. And when you can start making healthier choices in your life, whether it's food choices, mindset choices, lifestyle choices, whatever it may be.
Beyond just the benefit of those healthy choices, there's also the mindset benefit of knowing that you're doing something good that feels good that you can do at any time. So, like, when you start doing something like, let me say during the holidays, I'm gonna need an apple every day. I'm gonna. It's. It's. It's November 17th, and I want to start eating. And if I start eating an apple every day, that'd be a healthier thing I could work on, you know, so go eat your. During the holidays, whatever. But maybe now, all of a sudden, you eat an apple every day for the next six weeks. So now January 1st rolls around and maybe overdid a little bit here and there, but you get this apple habit, right? And again, it's not just the benefits of eating the apple that's great, but it's the psychology of saying, that wasn't that hard. And now I'm better off. Oh, now I eat an apple every day. It's kind of a normal. It's kind of a routine. It's a habit. Now you go to January 1st, you think differently about yourself, you know, and I know it sounds a little. But this is what I'm trying to say, because dieting is always training. You got to change everything all at once. And I found that that's, again, one of the most toxic ideas that exists, because you can't change everything all at once, and especially on the holidays, because you get all the stress of the holidays coming at you. So what, the most stressful time of year, you're gonna just change everything about your diet? No, you're not. But you could add an apple. You can get a little more sleep, you can drink a little more water. You know what I mean? You can add little things that when January 1st comes around, there's a sense of momentum. And so, you know, in my opinion, that's how you start thinking more strategically. And that's what I think everyone needs to do with their weight, is start thinking more strategically, start thinking more longer term. And when you start thinking that way, it's not that hard. It really isn't. You know, weight loss is so hard for you because you're trying to do it as a dieter. And dieting is extremely hard. It's. It's. It's literally built to fail. Literally. Dieting is a. Is a concept that was created by the food companies to teach you how to try and lose weight that doesn't work. I know you don't believe me, but all the big diets you know and reference subconsciously were all created by big food companies. Weight Watchers was owned by Heinz. Jenny Craig was owned by Nestle Atkins Food Products, owned by the same company, owns Ony Anne's pretzels and cinnabon. SlimFast is owned by the same company, owns Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. These companies don't want you to lose weight. They just want to profit off you. When you get motivated to lose weight and put a bunch of dumb in your head about how to lose weight, that sabotages you forever. And I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but I believe that a thousand percent. What's up, Judy? How's it going over there in Facebook land? But yeah, but what are you all working on? I know. How are you all feeling about the holidays? Halloween candy away yet? I got rid of mine finally. Thank God it lasts a little bit longer than I expected. What's up, Manus? Watching from Malaysia. All right. Malaysia, nice. Yeah, we get a number of people from Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, I'd say pretty regularly, so that's pretty cool.
What's up, Bookworm? Bookworm says, Jim, did you have a session last Friday? I didn't see you on Tik Tok. No, actually, I did not. Yeah, last Friday I was in work mode. I've been in work mode. I am wrapping up some projects and kicking some new ones off, but I'm wrapping up the big one, which is the book. And.
It'S very exciting. Very exciting. So the new book is coming out in the new book. This is exciting so. Well, okay, there's good and bad news, I suppose if you've been listening to that. The better news is that the book will be available January 1st. So it's a little bit. A little bit further than I wanted it to be expected it. But it's all going to make sense. The good news is that the book's going to be free. I'm going to literally give the book away for free for the first five days of the new year. So the digital version, obviously, I. I can't set all these physical ones out, but the digital version will literally be free. So that's really exciting for five days. And so I will let you know about that if you're on my email list. I'll send you emails about it all and that'll be that. Now, again, I will say it is an ethical bribe, as they say. I'm giving the book away for free in the hopes that you will read it and that you will leave me a review on Amazon. But it will be a free book for you for five days in the beginning of the year. So mark your calendars. What's up, Scott? Scott says, are artificial sweeteners like stevia bad for you?
Well, bad's a funny word, right? And so I like to look at things. I wish I could just give you simple answers. I never can. So I like to look at things kind of in more context. So everything's relative. So our artificial sweeteners like stevia, worse for you than sugar. Natural sweeteners. Right.
And what do we mean by that? So do we mean like, well, they give you cancer, right? Because that was a big thing for a while, that artificial sweeteners may give you cancer. Now again, that was based on, you know, pumping mice full of artificial sweeteners at levels that were no one would ever do, you know.
So, so I don't have the answers for that. I, I couldn't sit here and tell you if artificial sweeteners and natural sweeteners, which one's going to be better or worse for your health? I, I don't know. That's not something I, I am an expert at. What I will say is this, that regardless of whether the sweetener is natural or artificial, in my world, I am looking to moderate it. Okay? Because whether it's artificial or real, natural or man made, I don't want to consume a lot of sweetener because the more sweetness I consume, the more I calibrate my tongue to expect sweet flavors.
And part of my process, I guess, of eating well, part of it is managing what I'm eating. And so I very intentionally like to focus and choose whole natural foods. And whole natural foods don't have a lot of natural or artificial sugar in them. Right. And fruit sugar is a whole different thing, by the way. Okay, so we're talking about sucrose table sugar, and we're talking about artificial sweeteners and fructose and fruit is a different type of thing. Okay? So I'm leaving that to the side. So sucrose naturally made or artificial sweeteners, I'm moderating them and limiting them intentionally because I don't want a lot of sweetness on my tongue because the sweeter natural, artificial I consume, the more sweetness I want in, the more bland, natural whole flavors taste to me and the less I'm going to want them. So for me personally, I'm looking to dial them all down, natural or artificial. That being said, now I will Just add to the end of it that me personally, if I was going to have to eat a sweetener, I'm always going to opt towards natural ones. So I believe, again, I don't know, this could be true or not true. I'm not an expert in this, but. But I do believe that it's weird to indicate a very sweet taste on your tongue and then not have any calories come with it. So I find that the potential that that's going to trick your body or do something weird, you know, I just believe it. They have done studies with artificial sweeteners and sodas. So diet sodas and the, the people drinking diet sodas with the artificial sweeteners gained more weight than people drinking regular sugar sodas. And I think again, that I do believe the idea that if you eat something sweet, it signals to your body and mind that there's going to be calories coming and then your body starts ramping up to consume those calories and no calories come. And so it makes sense to me that artificial sweeteners may trigger to be hungrier in general. So that's something I believe. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. I don't know. Regardless, I never, ever consume artificial sweeteners and I moderate my sugar consumption, so hopefully that helps.
Carol says. Nice. Carol says, thank you for offering the book for free in early January. Such a great way to start the new year. Yes, it's going to be awesome. I can't wait for you all to get it. So, yeah, make sure you all get your. Your Amazon. You'll probably have to have an Amazon account because it'll be the Kindle version, but you will get it for free. So January 1st to the 5th, it'll be free. So there you go.
Some of you, some of you, my clients and people who voted for the book cover, you will be getting a version of the book in December for free. So I will be reaching out for you for that. But everyone else in the world can go to Amazon on January 1st, go get that book for free. And that's really exciting. I think you're gonna love it. It's really cool. So we're putting the finishing touches on it. The book's almost finished. It should be completely designed, ready to go.
Soon, but it won't be available till January 1st. Carol says your program is making a great change in my life. It's easy, fun, and interesting. I'm getting healthier. All right, Carol. Yes, right. That's the way the program's designed. It's designed to be easy and fun and interesting. Right. I really appreciate you saying that, Carol, because in my opinion, things that are hard, difficult, and boring, we don't tend to do for very long. Right. So I think that that's how most people approach their weight loss, is they approach it. It's difficult, sucks, and it's boring. Right. So that instantly is going to make a lot harder. So Program Yourself then. Absolutely is going to. You know, the goal here is to make it interesting. I say this all the time. You know, I lost over £50 over 30 years ago, so I've been doing this over 30 years. I'm as fired up and excited and motivated now about the things I do to maintain my weight now instead of losing it, because I'm there. But I'm as excited about this whole process today, if not more so, than I was 30 years ago. And that's because Program Yourself is built to be fun and easy and enjoyable. It's meant to show you how to get to your goal weight and live there for the rest of your life in the easiest, most natural way possible. True story. And so I aim to be a role model for that. But it's always fun to hear new people like Carol here, you know, just get in the program and experience that firsthand because weight loss doesn't have to be this miserable, shitty, you know, boring experience. It really doesn't. You've been taught that through dieting. But again, program yourself. Then we take the weight loss wrapped in personal development. So. And program yourself then it's really more about becoming the person you want to be. You know, an aspect of that is weighing what you want, too, but it's not the main focus. And I think that's a very important distinction because weight's pretty boring. You know, at the end of the day, it's really about being the person you want to be. Right. And again, part of that is that you don't just want to lose weight. You want to lose weight in a way that's comfortable, that's maintainable, that makes your life better. And it's, again, it's not that hard to do when you approach it differently than a dieter. So awesome job, Carol. Keep it up. Roshi says, when I crave sugar, I can't see what type of sugar it is. When I crave sugar, I can't see what type of sugar it is. I'm not sure what that means, but you can always see what type of sugar is pretty much. But you can taste it. It's not a very difficult I don't think, you know, I don't think it's very difficult to figure out what's, like, natural sucrose, table sugar, and what is artificial sweeteners. I feel like I can taste it in a second. But regardless, just look at the packaging, you know, is what I would do or ask people, if I understand that correctly.
Yes, yes. This must mean you're off the Snickers. Yes, I got rid of the Snickers and the. And the Twix. Twix has made a surprise appearance this year, but they're all gone now, thank God. But now my next. My next big challenge is bread. My brother got into sourdough making, and I love sourdough bread so much. It's probably one of my favorite things in the world. And he blew me away with the sourdough he was making. And so that's my new thing, is making bread and managing that. So I will keep you up to date with it. But I say this, and I share this stuff with you all the time, right? I mean, last winter I put ten pounds on because I got into cookies and there was other stuff going on. Please understand. You know, I will tell you.
It's. It's hard for me. One of the hard things is there's. Listen, so last year I put Last. Last winter I put like ten pounds. I said, well, I got in the cookies. Yeah, okay, I got the cookies. That's like the top level thing. You know, there's other stuff, too, but the cookies were one of the main things I was. But I got in the cookies because of other things going on under the surface, right? So again, we go to the goal weight pyramid. So, yeah, last year I started eating more cookies, but that's because other things below it had changed, you understand? And so that's very important to understand because if I'm just like, oh, my God, meat, more cookies. What's going on? I gotta stop eating more cookies. I would have never dealt with any of this stuff under here that had changed a little bit, you know, but because I have a granular, comprehensive understanding of how to maintain my weight, that includes mindset, lifestyle, and eating altogether. When I get a bit off track and all of a sudden £10 up and I've been eating more cookies, I don't just say, I got to stop eating cookies. It's never that easy. I go back and I recognize and there was. I was under some more stress. There's just different things going on, and I just got caught up in a little bit, and that's life, folks. You know, that's why I say the biggest issue for dieters is that the statistic that 90, 95% of dieters that lose weight put it back on. So it's not about losing weight. That shouldn't be your main focus. The focus isn't losing weight. It's living at your goal weight. They're two totally different things. And living at your goal weight requires more flexibility. It requires that you have the ability to kind of adapt to situations because things are kind of always changing. So for the last couple weeks, I've been eating Halloween candy. That cranks up my craving, cranks up my urges, you know, cranks up my hunger, messes with my sleep. It does all sorts of stuff. But now I know I'm doing it right now. All of a sudden, there's bread showing up in my life. You know, the sourdough thing is it's like now. So again, I know how to manage them because I'm not just freaking out. I'm not just hoping I eat well. I have such a detailed, comprehensive understanding of what influences my eating overall that I can. I feel very, very confident that I'll be able to manage all these things. Even if I get a little off track for a minute, it's not a big deal. Because even last couple weeks, when I get off track with the candy, yeah, okay, now there's more candy in my life, but I'm still got all these other things holding me down. You know what I mean? So even when I meet more candy, I still got all my lifestyle stuff grounding me. I got my mindset stuff grounding me. I got my other eating strategies grounding me. And so, yeah, there's a little bit more candy that shows up. But because I have these other things grounding me, when it comes time for the candy to go away, that's an easier process of transition for me. It's easier to go from the candy to the no candy because I have all these other things supporting me. I hope that makes sense. Yeah, yeah. Joan says, can't wait for the book. Yes, I can't either. You're all going to love it. I really believe this. I. Every time I read it, I will tell you the hardest part of this book, in my opinion, has been read like.
How'S all it's been? Oh, my God. It's going on three months now. I think it's funny because three months ago, I'm like, I just got this idea for a book and it's almost done. I'm going to have it done next week. But anyways, here we are three weeks later, but three months later. But the hardest part of the book has been I've been in the final draft phase for probably a month now, which means I just read. I keep reading through it. I'll make like, I'll. Out of the whole 40 chapters, I'll change, like, three of the chapters, you know, whatever. But every time I go through it, I'm like, oh, this is so good. I can't wait for these people to read it. I can't wait to get this out there. That's been. The hardest part, is having the patience to not just, like, I can't wait for y' all to see it. I. I think it's good. I don't know. I can't wait to get the feedback too. Just either love it or you don't. Whatever. I know. I know my people are gonna love it, so I'm not even worried about that. But.
It is exciting. Can't wait for y' all to get it. Jody's excited. Yeah, I can't wait. And, yeah, I know Jody and Joan, at least, are two people that will get the book probably in the beginning, middle of December, because again, there will be early, early versions going out for my.
My most committed clients and. And for people to help me choose the book cover. Gonna reward you. I appreciate that. But. Yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Tik Tok. I am live. I know. I get a little.
Yeah. Any weight loss questions, feel free to ask them. Oh, Lon has. What's in your hand? Oh, it's a little, like, fidget thing. Little magnetic rings. You can see it.
So these are really cool. I gotta say. These are some of my favorites. The one thing I gotta watch out for this one is, like, sometimes I'll have, like, two fingers in here, and I'll move my hand quick, and this thing will go flying off. So it's. They're so cool, though. I really. Look at this. I don't know. Little magnets. They really work. It's. They're, like, strong enough to hold them, but they're. You know, they're not too strong to. I don't know. I love them where I'm like.
Brass knuckles. Just move them around. They're fun. Some of my. My new favorite one, I would say.
So says, hi, Jim. I don't have a horrible diet, but I'm so inconsistent when it comes to exercise. Any tips? Yeah, I mean, my biggest tip, really. It's the same with all Habits. I think when you understand habits, it really doesn't matter what the habit is. You, you go at it with a kind of strategic approach. And I think when it comes to exercising, the biggest advice I would give you is to start small. I think most people have horribly inconsistent exercise routines because you have one exercise routine and it's probably like a half hour, 45 minutes an hour. It's probably at the gym, it's probably, it probably takes a lot of energy, a lot of effort, a lot of time to do it. And.
So, you know, it takes like almost a perfect situation for you to actually do it. I find that's the biggest reason people are consistent. So I think the easiest solution to that is to.
I think the easiest solution to that is to break it down, give yourself some options. I think my bet, the best suggestion I think is when it comes to your exercising is to have like a plan A, B, C and D. Right? And so for example, you know, one, you know, your plan A may be an hour exercise routine, plan B may be a 45 minute one, plan C might be a 15 minute one. Plan D might be a one minute one. You know, and I think the idea is that initially when you're looking to install a habit, whether it's exercise or reading or whatever, it may be that you start really small and simple so that you can just kind of, even if it's doing push ups, 10 push ups a day, if you've done zero and all of a sudden the goal Is to do 10 push ups a day, five days a week, because it's 10 pushups, that's a lot easier than trying to get yourself to exercise for an hour, four days a week. Does that make sense? Right. And so what happens is you, you focus on a consistency and once you have a consistency now, you can start to crank up the intensity. But again, most people are too impatient and so they just want to go. And if they're going to do it, they're going to do it right, and they're just going to, you know, do an hour. So I think most people way load themselves up too much with stuff and they dread it, right? It's too hard and then they, they quit, they stop doing it. So my suggestion, be, give yourself more options and be more flexible so that depending on what the, the day brings, your mood brings your energy levels, it's some, there's something you can always at least do and that'll start to build the, the consistency of it and then that will lead to intensity a lot of times it's definitely a better strategy, for sure.
Than just trying to start up some crazy plan.
Yeah. If you got any questions, feel free to ask.
If I missed any questions, I apologize. Tick tock's hard to find the questions on sometimes. If you get a little behind. Lois says, I'm very excited for the book. I did one of your hypnosis lessons and actually fell asleep. Is that usual? Yeah, a lot of people fall asleep. Listen to the hypnosis sessions. You know, you have to understand with hypnosis. Hypnosis is a big part of programming yourself then. It's kind of one of the core pillars, I would say. And it's important to understand that. I think most people think of hypnosis, they think of the words right in the. In the state you're going into. But I think it's really important as well that.
That you realize that when you go into hypnosis, you're relaxing, you know, for. For so many people. That was so shocking to me that I found that like most people that I would. When I first started my hypnosis office, people come in and I was shocked. I was like, wow. They would regularly say, this is the most relaxed I've ever been in my life. And that was really helpful in the beginning because, you know, again, I was okay. You know what I mean? Everyone's started as you start. But I knew for a fact that everyone came in. I knew I was going to help them relax deeper than they almost ever did, you know. And so it's important to understand that when you're listening to hypnosis sessions, at least in my program.
I'm not gonna say it's half and half, but. But. But half the benefit is the hypnosis suggestions you're getting and all the mindset piece of it. But I think at least half of it is the relaxation, because most people just never practice relaxation. And so the hypnosis session is extremely relaxing. You know, it's like, again, we always start in my sessions because, again, that's a core part of the whole program is learning how to relax yourself. And so every session starts by relaxing your shoulders, chest, stomach. Take a deep breath in, let it out. And that. That allows you to get better at relaxing and calming yourself, grounding yourself, centering yourself to me. That skill of being able to kind of ground and calm yourself, I think that's the most important skill to mastering your weight, to being able to live at your goal weight. I think that's the most important one. And so every time you listen to a hypnosis session, you're doing that. And so it's not unusual at all to fall asleep. The way I think of hypnosis is this, right? You're awake and you're asleep. And when you go from awake to asleep, you pass through a hypnagogic state, right? Hypnosis in Greek means to sleep. So again, with hypnosis, we're kind of going from awake to sleep. And right in that magical area when you're just drifting off. You know, when you feel like you're falling asleep and you're just. You're laying there, but it feels like you're falling, that's your imagination kind of taking over. It's your. Your logical mind kind of receding and your imagination mind kind of coming to the forefront. And then you shift into dreams, and dreams are crazy and all that stuff. But so what we're looking at with hypnosis is bring you right to that edge. So you don't actually fall asleep, but you get those suggestions because then when they go in your mind, you kind of vividly imagine them, and they have their impacts. Now, if you listen to a hypnosis session, you fall asleep. It's still valuable because as you're drifting off into that sleep state, you're getting all these positive suggestions. So, yes, Lois, it is completely normal and natural to fall asleep during the hypnosis sessions. And. And they're still valuable. They're still helpful. Now, if you were dead asleep and I put the session on, you're not going to get any benefit out of it. But if you're going to listen to it as you drift off to sleep, it's going to have the benefit of having those suggestions go in your mind as you drift off. And you may dream about those things. You. You know what I mean? You may wake up thinking about them regardless, they tend to have a positive effect. So, yeah, completely and totally normal. So not. Not a weird thing. A lot of my peeps fall asleep when they listen to hypnosis sessions because they are extremely, extremely relaxing.
So, yeah, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them. Otherwise, I have a quick day here, which might be fine, too. Got a lot of stuff I'm wrapping up here. A lot of things behind the scenes of different people. So it's like a lot of things going on. So I'm gonna wrap it. I'm gonna call it. All right, so if you're not in my world, make sure you click the link in my bio, go get the free hypnosis session and watch the training I made for you and, and just get on my email list. I got a bunch of cool stuff coming. I mean, it's all, it's all getting ready to go, right? Things are a lot, a lot of things are kind of coming together right now. So if you're not on my email list, you're gonna miss out a lot of cool stuff and a lot of it's free. So go check that out. And like I said, I will be giving you my new book for free. The first five days of January, the books are gonna be, the book's gonna be free. And so if you get on my email list, you'll be reminded of that. You'll be able to get it. So go do that. And then if you like this here, I'm here every Monday through Friday, usually around noon Eastern to answer any of your questions and to help you out in any way that I can. And yeah, and I'm also, this is a podcast. So if you.
If you like listening to this, but you can't make the live, go to any podcast platform search program yourself then, and this will pop up. I put this up pretty much every day. As soon as it's done. Susie says can you buy the hypnosis sessions to listen to?
Not right now. I have been convinced that it makes sense to sell the hypnosis sessions by themselves. I did this last year. I sold the hypnosis sessions by themselves. It's the number one hypnosis program on the planet for weight loss. There's no hypnosis program that comes close to this. It is an eight week program. It's so unique. There's literally nothing even like this. So it's, what's going on with it is that it's an eight week program. So every morning you get a five minute hypnosis session with a weight loss mantra in it. And that's to start your day relaxed, calm, grounded, getting these good ideas put in your mind. And then at night you listen to a 10 minute hypnosis session. And that session is each week you get a core weight loss mantra. And that one you listen to at night and multiple times during the week. And so what happens is you're kind of bookending your day. Five minutes in the morning, 10 minutes at night. And then there's also a hypnosis library with specific sessions that you can listen to. But what ends up happening by the end of the eight weeks, this session, this program acts to install a thin and healthy mindset into your, your mind naturally and easily. So yeah, there's nothing like it. And so, yes, I have. I'm always on the fence of whether I want to sell because it's like I want to sell the whole program as a whole. And I think the hypnosis session definitely works. I did last year. I sold it by itself and I got a lot of good feedback on it. I just felt like I was selling a incomplete thing. But then someone said, who gives a. If that's what we want to do and it helps us and that's what we want to do, let us do it. So I guess that's a good argument too. So anyways, at some point I probably will just sell the hypnosis session on its own. I recommend the full investment to get the program. But anyway, so there we are, you know, But I do give a lot of free hypno. I do give a lot of sessions away for free as well. So if you sign up for my. If you go to that link and sign up, I give sessions away all the time. Just a couple weeks ago, I gave away the. The first £5 hypnosis session. I gave that away for free. So I give lots of things away for free. Deanna says, hey, Jim, are we still using the Circle app? I've been having some difficulty. I get your emails, but when I click the link I get an error.
You know. Yes, yes, Deanna, we are still using the Circle app. If I had to guess what that is, that may be because of the Thrive emails. So I don't. Yeah, you may not. I don't think you're supposed to be getting those emails anymore. So I can fix that. But it still works at.
It's still, it's still. Circle app definitely works. It's updating now. So everything's kind of updating and I think everything's kind of working in there now and should be working good. If you're in the program, you're having any issues at all, it is going to be a login issue to the membership area and that's relatively easily fixed. You just have to clear your cache, which may sound a little complicated. I'm gonna set some. I'm gonna set up a post that's gonna guide you through that if that's a issue for you. Okay. But yes, we're still using the Circle app. If you're getting that. That thing though, I think it's because you're not in the Thrive program now. So it's like you're still getting those emails, which I will fix. So I apologize for that.
But that's why? But yes, we're still using the Circle app. And the Circle app's got a lot of cool stuff coming, coming its way, so. A lot of cool things happening.
Yeah, so that's what's there.
Bookworm says, where do we go to sign up for your mailing list, Jim? Bookworm, if you go to, you're on TikTok. So if you go up to the top left, you see a picture of me, click that and it'll bring you to my bio and then there's a link in the bio. Go click that link and it'll bring you right to the page. Take you five seconds. Just. Just opt in your email, answer five questions, take you two seconds and you get the hypnosis session. And I made a training for you too, so you'll get that immediately. All right.
Jen says, hey, Jim, I recently joined. I didn't start the first week, so I'm working on getting started. Jen, just shoot me an email if you. If you want me to restart the emails for you. Yeah, I can do that. Okay.
So, yeah, but, but you can, you can start. You can make a support ticket, Jen, or you can email me at Jim at program yourself then.com if you have any, like, specific questions. I can help you with that. That's the best way to get a hold of me and to get support is either fill out that to tech support ticket, which I'm gonna start putting those everywhere, folks. So you're going to see those everywhere. They're in that. They're all over the place in the membership area. But I'm going to start putting the tech support link in all in the Circle app. So if you ever have questions, you can just go quickly get those answered.
Yeah. Vicki says mystery Friday. Yes. I, I didn't Friday. I just went all in. I was locked in, working on stuff. Like I said. There's so much cool stuff coming, folks. I'm really excited. It's really neat, a lot of cool things happening and I'm just fired up, so. Yes, but we're back here this week. Yeah, Dan, I'll reach out. Yeah, Deanna, reach me out if you have any questions. Yeah, send that to me. Jma. Program yourself then and I will. I'll get back to you on that.
Get everyone.
Yeah, okay. Yeah, just shoot me a message and I'll get that set for you.
Yeah. All right, very good. All right, everyone have a super duper day and we'll talk soon. Bye, everyone.
