Everyone, welcome to today's program Yourself Thin Podcast. Today we're talking about why you overeat. Why do you overeat? Now, that's a big question, right? Because the reason you overeat really is usually very, very specific to when you overeat, which means that why you overeat might be different in the morning compared to the night, and one morning it might be different than the next morning. There's always kind of different factors at play. Now. There's absolutely patterns that start to kind of, you know, reveal themselves. But at the end of the day, the more you start to understand why you overeat, the better chance you have of kind of figuring out solutions to those issues. And what most people do when they overeat is they just blame themselves for not having any willpower. They just say, I blew it. That's it. I'm a bad person. That's it. I'm addicted to sugar. That's it. We need to understand the more specific reasons why in that moment you overeat. And if you spend a little bit of time after you overeat and relax, calm down and reflect what was going on there. Because you don't want to overeat, right? You don't want to overeat, you want to eat right, you want to lose weight. That's what you want. So when you do it, there's almost always some reasons why that happened. Which brings to mind something we talk about in Program Yourself. Then a lot is the distinction between reasons and excuses. You know, are there genuine reasons why you overeat sometimes, or are they all just excuses and you should just be able to fight them off and eat perfectly no matter what? And we gotta, you know, kind of deal with that first. Because most dieters just associate every mistake with an excuse. So I'm just making an excuse for myself. I should just eat perfectly. Whereas in Program Yourself, then we're way more to the side of reasons that when you overeat, there's almost always a reason why that happened, that maybe you didn't sleep well the night before and you were tired. Maybe you've been eating a lot of sugar yesterday and you had a lot of sugar cravings today. Maybe you got in a fight with your boss and now you're really upset and you went right to the food. And so as we start to kind of unravel the reasons why you overeat, what starts happening is you start realizing that there's things going on that are nudging you or driving you towards the overeating. Most of the time. And now you can deal with those factors. Okay, so if we don't do this, what happens is the answer is always the same, that you just have to make the right choice. Just do it. Just make the right choice. Well, what if I make the wrong choice? Well, don't make the right choice. Well, how do I get there? How do I make the right choice consistently? And I think the only way you can make the right choice consistently or more often is to start to understand the fundamental factors that nudge you in the direction of making good choices and the ones that nudge you in the direction making the wrong choices and starting to work on those. Because if we just leave it all up to willpower at the last moment when we're about to make a food choice, just choose the right thing. Well, has that worked for you? You know, it usually doesn't work well for anyone. So again, we want to start to understand the subtleties of what drives us one direction, what drives us in the other, and start moving ourselves in the direction we want to go in. Because if you find out I over ate yesterday at lunch. Okay, what was going on? He said, well, I had a lot of work to do and I was stressed out. My boss yelled at me and I was upset. I didn't sleep good the night before and I was tired. Okay, we can look at those things. We say, okay, if I want to eat better, because on one hand the dieter is going to say I should just eaten better. That's always their answer. But in the real world, how practical is that? You always know you should eat better. How often do you actually do it? Okay, so in program yourself, then we start to look at those subtle factors of I had a lot of work to do, so I was stressed. My boss yelled at me, so I was upset. I didn't sleep well, so I was tired. And we start to look at those three things and we say, okay, if I go back in time, I had a lot of work to do. How do I want to manage when I have a lot of work to do? So I'd like to be able to be a bit more relaxed and grounded. So my boss yells at me and I got really upset. How do I want to respond to that? In an ideal world, I'd be able to kind of take that in, take a deep breath and let go a lot of the physiology of it, focus on what they said to me and move forward. I didn't sleep good the night before, and so I was tired. Okay, when I get tired what are some other strategies I can rely on? Maybe I could go take a nap. Maybe I could drink a little extra water. Maybe I could listen to a two minute guided meditation, whatever. I don't know what the answer will be for you, but you're never going to get to the right answer if you're not breaking apart the things that are nudging you in the directions that you're going in. And again, most dieters are ignoring all those little subtle things and just assuming that ultimately at the end of the day, they're just gonna make the right choice no matter what. And I just have never seen that happen. I've seen, ultimately it really comes down to how are you responding to a lot of little things, you know? And again, like I said, once you start paying attention to this, you start noticing the reasons for why you did what you did. You start doing that for a little bit, you start to notice the patterns, right? You start to notice, oh, I was snacking at night cause I was exhausted, I was eating in the afternoon cause I was bored. We always start to understand the deeper reasons that are nudging us that direction. Now we can go to work on fixing them, okay? But it's a completely different paradigm where we're really dealing with the nuts and bolts of what's wrong. Instead of just assuming that willpower fixes all and hoping that someday we'll be visited by the willpower fairy and they'll tap us with willpower and we'll just have ultimate willpower and always make the right choice. Instead, I would rather notice the things that nudge me in the wrong direction and go to work on resolving those. Because again, not only are you going to make better food choices, most likely, but you're going to feel a lot better. We go back to my scenario. If you learn to become aware of when you're stressed, you have a lot of work and you realize you're stressed, you take a second and you check in and you relax and you let go of a lot of that stress. What if you started doing that naturally when you started to feel stress? Not only are you going to make better food choices, but you feel better, you perform better, your boss yells at you and you get upset, you realize you're upset, you take a moment to ground yourself, let those feelings go, breathe them out, and you feel a little bit better. Okay, so again, not only you kind of make better food choices, but you feel better, you perform better, right? You, you feel like a better version of yourself and so on. So again, I've seen this approach where it's much better. And I think it makes a lot of sense why it does. So if you want to go deeper into this concept and be able to do this more effectively, click the link in my bio or go to program yourself. Then go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. It's called the New Thin Me. And it'll help you do a lot of things I was just talking about. It will help you relax, it'll help you breathe more deeply. It'll help you ground yourself, and it'll help you think differently. It'll put new ideas in your mind that probably aren't there right now that really kind of nudge you in the right direction. So you can go check that out. It's completely free. And can we do have this. This book is now available as well. So I just want to make a little plug for this. People have been loving it. I really appreciate all the nice notes and messages and certainly the reviews. Are we up to 60? Yeah, come on. We need one more to get to 60. Not that it matters, but it'd be cool to hit that. That number. But it's been really, really awesome reading those reviews. And yeah, people loving the book. And I'm really happy about that. That was why I wrote it. So, yeah, if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. Any weight loss questions are welcome. And I know where people are at. I don't know if where you are, but it is a cold, windy day here in Massachusetts. I will tell you that. It is very, very windy. And it is getting colder by the second, but it's also sunny. So this is good. It's got a solar. Got solar panels and it's got hooked up completely. So it's fun watching, watching them work. So this has been the first sunny day since they've really been, you know, cranked on. So anyways. But yes, I hope you're all having a nice Friday, had a good week, and are ready to go into the weekend. Another thing I was almost talked about today. Didn't go into it. Is that it? Let's see. What are we two weeks, Two weeks into the new year. Is it two full weeks in the new year? No. Is it? Look at the calendar. I can't even. That's two weeks. Two full weeks in the new year, I'd say. Right. So where you at? You know, where you at with your weight loss? Again, I'm. Program yourself thin. If you haven't been perfect, it's fine because again, we're coming out of the holidays. And so we don't expect just in one day, we're just going to flip back into our normal mode. We give ourselves a little bit of space to kind of re enter into that, that way of being. So I don't expect myself a week, two weeks into January to be in the same place I was at, you know, in the middle of September, the middle of October or middle of March or May. Right? That's when I'm really, I'm thriving, you know, I'm flowing there. So. So give yourself a little bit of space to kind of ramp back up. I think a lot of times with dieters, they think so black or white, that they never give themselves the space to, to ramp back up to where they want to go. And so sometimes you got to do the little things in order to do the big things. And sometimes the little things are, you know, getting a little extra sleep, drinking some more water, eating a little bit more fruit, you know, doing something a little easy, simple, basic, foundational things that make it possible to get back up to all the big good things that you've been doing. But yeah, if you have any questions about weight loss, feel free to ask them. Any plan is welcome. I've worked with people on every plan on the planet. At the end of the day, every weight loss plan requires is a mindset shift. And so that is why, regardless of weight loss plan, you may be on understanding how your mindset is impacting it is really valuable. And I think mindset is probably the most overlooked aspect of weight loss in our culture. If I had to guess right, we're constantly bombarded by different plans, different plans of what to do. But very rarely are we shown or taught how to change how we think, you know, how we think about ourselves, how we think about food, how we think about behaviors, all of these things. And I think ultimately, at the end of the day, what's really going to dictate your weight more than anything is how you think you know. And if you're gonna not only lose weight, but live at your goal weight, if you've got any chance in hell at living at your goal weight, I think you would have to learn how to think differently. That's what I think. So anyways. But if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. And if we might have a quiet day here, we have a quiet day where no one has any questions, and that'd be fine too, you know, just talk about this for a second. Again, this book is out. You can get it now. At places where books are sold. It's an easy read, and it's very powerful. So, again, it's been nice reading what people have been saying about it. And I will say, you know, it is. It's. What is it? It's $10, I think, 10 bucks. And I can promise you this will be the best $10 you ever spent on your weight. Guaranteed. Guaranteed. No question about it. But, yeah, if you're all dealing with any weight stuff, feel free to ask any questions. How to eat better, how to bounce back from mistakes, how to deal with plateaus, how to frame things differently. These are all the things I deal with on a daily with my clients. No. All right, have a quiet day. You know what? I'm not in a mood to talk by myself today anyways. Oh, there's jelly up. You are brilliant. My mind has shifted from making eating well stressless into a calm, steady or. Yeah, that's awesome, Chell. Great job. Bookworm says Jim. Explain the COVID of the book. Yeah, cover. The book is real simple. I actually used a design contest, and so. Oh, what's up, Baja? Yeah. So the COVID of the book's awesome, though, I think. You know, and it's funny, this is actually. This was really cool to me, is I used a design contest, and so I, you know, put kind of like what the book was all about and all that stuff up there. And I got a ton of. A ton of covers. I mean, like, like 85 covers, I think, you know, cover designs. And so I whittled it down to, like, my favorite five, I would say. And then I sent it out to my best clients and asked them what they thought, you know, and so I got over. Over 150 responses on that. And this was number one. This was the number one. And it's funny, too, because my. My favorite was actually number two. And I was like, well, okay. And then I thought about. And all the rest of it, and we did modify it a little bit. And actually, this is actually. So I forget who said this now, if you know who you are, you know who you are. But this. Originally, the path was gray, and someone said, oh, you should make the stones kind of colored, too, like the flowers. So it actually helped design the book. So I really appreciate that, and I do. I'm a big believer. They call it the hive mind. So, you know, it's basically, you know, a bunch of brains working together typically is better than one brain, you know, so that this book proved that, because, again, I came around to this one. I definitely am so happy I picked this cover instead of the other one, and I really liked the other one. It really, like, right away I was like, I love that. But the more I kind of thought about it, as much as I loved it, it wasn't the right fit for this book. And this was absolutely, in my opinion, the right. The right cover. So that was kind of cool how that happened. But I will tell you, I love the other cover so much, I was like, I'm gonna write another book just so I can use that cover. But I get over that. So anyways. But the idea, you know, basically it's the idea of a path, right? I love the color, too. I just, I love, you know, like, the way the Dow is big and goal weight living is big. I love that. Just the colors of it. So, yeah, huge fan. Yeah. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. The color stones get smaller and brighter as you keep going. Yes, exactly. And then obviously the flowers are there, kind of represents, you know, that goal. But the main thing I think is it's a path, you know, and that's a key part of this whole book, is that it's really the concept of internalizing your weight loss as a never ending path. And I know for a lot of dieters that's terrifying when they first hear that, because most of you. But this is a real big red flag for your weight loss idea that if you think about dieting forever and it terrifies you, that's a real bad sign. Because on the flip side of that, if I ask you the question of how long would you like to live at your goal weight, you're probably going to stay forever, right? But if you think about living in a diet forever, you're going to think like, oh, I don't want to do that. Which again, reveals the main problem of diets, is that they're really built to be done for a little while. You diet until you lose the weight, and then there's this huge blank spot of how do you live at your goal weight? And that idea, that concept of living at your goal weight doesn't really exist. You treat it as an afterthought. It's treated as something that you'll focus on once you lose the weight. But the problem is that that time never comes for most people. You know, it's estimated that 85 to 95% of dieters that lose weight that are successful put the weight back on. So again, losing weight and living at your goal weight are two totally different things. And the irony is that living at your goal is actually a Lot easier. Because the reason you think weight loss is so difficult is. Is because the presupposition you're making is that I want to lose weight as fast as possible. And so every time you think about weight loss, you're really saying, how can I lose weight as quick as I can? And then that leads you to only consider extreme plans that are hard and difficult and stressful and all the rest of it. And so you never really think about how can I live at my goal weight? And that's a much more comfortable process. So, yeah, Shell says I'm recommending your book to everyone. Thank you. Yes. I appreciate it. I was saying that yesterday, I would say the. The biggest thing of this book that I would say is kind of like the biggest surprise and kind of like the most. I don't kind of emotional thing. I don't know. The reviews are awesome. Like, reading the reviews is really cool. But one of the other coolest things I hear is like so many people tell me they buy a bunch of them to give them away, and I'm like, that that's the coolest. I. Because I love the reviews. You know what I mean? If someone take the time to write a review really means a lot to me. But for someone to buy a bunch of books to give them away, they're so great. That that's just again, that really. It's so validating. And again, I knew this book was going to be good. I. I had no doubt this was a really good book when I was writing it. But it really. It's always nice to be validated, you know, for sure. Said the weight loss journey starts out bleak and dark and bleak and then brightness. And you get smaller. Yes, exactly. Yeah, exactly. It gets smaller too. I didn't think about that part of it. Right. I was thinking more as a kind of the time. The time concept that, you know, it's further, further in the distance. But yeah, you're right. Yeah, you get smaller too. That's kind of true. Yeah. All right, you know what? I'm gonna wrap it up here. I do have a lot of stuff. One of the things I am working on. Okay, I'm going to tell you this is get on my email list. All you have to do is click the link in my bio. So if you're on TikTok, just go up to my little picture on the top left there, click my picture, go to my bio, click that link, and then it takes you 15 seconds to enter that information and get on my email list. And if you get on My email list I'll be sending out today. Program yourself then PYT Spark. PYT Spark is a free program I'm giving you all, and it's got five things with it. It comes with a free hypnosis session, a program yourself then method report that shows you how to do the redo rehearsal technique. The goal weight quiz to help you figure out the right goal weight for yourself. The Did I say the new Thin me hypnosis session. So the thing Jim AI. I'm giving you access to Jim AI. Right. Which is basically my AI clone. So it's like talking to me. I think I'm missing something. But. But anyways, yes, all that stuff's going to be free, and there's even more than that. So anyways, I. I would strongly recommend, if you care about your weight at all, hop in there and get in my world. What's up, Adrian? Adrian says, I noticed this morning that the number on the scale no longer dictates my mood. Well, congratulations. Yes, that's a very big point to get to. Again, we tend to program yourself, then we honor the scale. I mean, we use it as a tool, but it's a tool. And there's other things we're focusing on more. I think you always know that you're making some big progress when all of a sudden the number on the scale doesn't impact you the way that it has in the past. I think that's always a great feeling, you know, and that's. I'm glad you had that because again, we want to ride that out, you know, that. That, that's what we want to. That's the feeling and that's the mindset we want to use to get to our goal weight and stay there. And it's the same with me because again, eventually the weight in the scale and numbers, they're just not going to have the same meaning. The scale means a lot to you now because you stand on. You have a very negative reaction if you're overweight, you're upset about that number. So every time you step on the scale, you have this very visceral neg response. And in a very Pavlovian way, you link it together. And so as you start losing weight, it all starts to feel real exciting. But in program yourself, then we really seek to minimize that. You're going to always enjoy when the scale's going down. Okay. But we want to balance that out with all the other benefits you're getting, too. And the thing about weight is that the number on the scale, the Weight that the scale shows is a lagging indicator. Okay? So you have to eat well for a while for that weight to show up, the weight loss to show up on the scale. But a leading indicator of how you're behaving, that's going to lead to the weight loss is a better thing to focus on, too, or at least add into it. And what I mean by that is that as you start eating better, living healthier, thinking better, you start feeling better, you know, instantly. And if you start paying attention, how you're thinking clearer, feeling better, having more energy, feeling more optimistic, feeling more hopeful, as you start to pay attention to those things and tap into those, they just give you even more horsepower to move forward. Right. Again, the scale going down is always going to be a motivator and exciting and feel good. But you need to add to that. You need to add to that the quicker wins, which, again, if you make good food choices today, your mental internal dialogue gets brighter. It gets more supportive. You start, hey, nice job. Great. You start to feel more optimistic. You start to feel more hopeful, more confident. You start to get all wonderful good things today. When you make good food decisions that cause you to lose weight, don't just focus on the weight loss piece. Focus on how you feel better today. When you wake up tomorrow and reflect on how you behave today, you feel better, and you wake up feeling brighter and happier. And if you start paying attention to those things again, you just bring more horsepower into this process. And so that's wonderful, Adrienne. I'm super proud of you. Happy for you. And again, that's just a little sample of what's to come. You know, you. You will have more and more of that as you continue down this path. So, wonderful job. All right, we get out of here again, if you are not in my world, make sure you click the link in my bio or go to program yourself.
