Why You're Scared To Be Hungry

Jim Katsoulis explains why hunger feels dangerous to your brain, even when you're not starving. Your stress response and subconscious drives sabotage diets. He suggests aiming for mild hunger when losing weight, planning pleasure meals, and building a lifestyle around sleep, hydration, and movement instead of willpower alone.

Hey everyone. Welcome to today's program yourself Thin podcast. Today we're talking about why you're scared to be hungry. Let's just get down to it. This is one of the core reasons you're struggling to lose weight. Because deep down, and maybe up top, even you're aware you're scared to be hungry. Now why is that though? It's not because it's unique to you. That's what you have to first understand. You're not weird because you were scared to be hungry. You're scared to be hungry because you're a human being. And human beings have evolved over millions of years on earth in a food scarce environment. So all of the biology that you have inherited has evolved in a completely different, different environment than you live in today. And so you step into this environment today surrounded by again a. For most people, thankfully there's, there's no lack of food. There's an abundance of food. And on top of that, the abundance of food is all processed, hyper and engineered to be as delicious and appealing as humanly possible. Okay, so we take this biology that at our core that's never going to change is wired to eat as much food as we can when we're around it. Because the more food we eat, when we have the opportunity in a food scarce environment, the likelier it is that we're able to survive and continue along. And so the genes that can eat the most when the food's around are the ones that get passed on. And those are the ones that we have inherited. So when you think about it this way, I think it has a calming effect first of all, because I think a lot of times people don't really consider this and they wonder what's wrong with them. Again, there's nothing wrong with you. You are acting the way that you should act from millions of years of evolution. You're right where you should supposed to be. So the problem's not you. The problem is that the environment has completely changed the, in the last 50 years. We are literally, to think of it, we are literally living in an alien environment from anything that we evolved in. And so there's a mismatch there. And so even though we have all this food around us and we know consciously I don't need to overeat, I'm fine. Biologically, every cell of your being is pushing you to eat as much food as you can when it's in front of you. And that's always going to be there to some degree. And so we have to first understand it, and then we seek to strategize around it, okay? And there's a few different strategies you can use. But again, the first step is just understand this is normal. It really is. And there's even things. You know, there's a thing called spontaneous veracity where they were studying these tribal people in Africa, and they had found food, and they ate a bunch of food. This hunter, he killed an animal. He ate a bunch of the animal, um, a lot of it, and was walking back, found a beehive, you know, and then they ended up eating a quart of honey on top of that. So humans have the ability, when food's all of a sudden in front of them, to eat a lot of it. Okay. And it's a. It's a complete systemic process, right? It's physiologically, hormonally you start to change. Psychologically, you start to change. Everything starts to push you to eat as much as you can while you're in that situation. So once we understand that that's what we're dealing with from the start. Now we look at this a little bit differently. You're not going to be able to just fight against yourself, okay? Because, again, it's biological, it's deep. And what we want to do is we want to start looking at a deeper solution. And I think what you'll find is, again, once you understand this concept, then we step into it and ground ourselves in a state of calm relaxation. Because one of the biggest shifts that's happening to us psychologically is that we have this. I'm going to use hypnotic terms here. We have a subconscious mind and a conscious mind. And what that means anatomically is that the prefrontal cortex of our brain is the newest part of our brain, right? So that's the newest part of our brain is the part of us that really makes us humans, that gives us the logical abilities. We have the ability to influence our behavior, to plan and analyze. Okay? And so what happens a lot of times, though, is that when we get stressed or we get anxious or get overwhelmed, we revert back to our subconscious programming. And all that logic and rational and willpower just kind of goes out the window. And this is a lot of what you've experienced, that when you're trying to eat better, you know, when you're more calm and grounded, you tend to make better food choices. And when you're stressed or in a peak negative emotional state, it becomes a lot harder to make the right food choices that, you know, you should. Okay? So when you start looking at how you want to influence your, your eating. It's really getting to this level. And realize it's not just what you know, because what you know and what you're able to get yourself to do are really dependent on how you feel in the moment. And if you're in a peak state of stress and anxiety, you have less ability to influence your decisions. Okay? So the more you start to steep yourself and cultivate a state of calm, grounded peacefulness within yourself, you start to increase your ability to make more logical, rational decisions that are more appropriate for the environment we live in now. Okay, because again, if all of a sudden I take any of us and throw us into the natural world, that desire and ability, as much as we possibly can with foods in front of us, becomes life saving. Again, that same ability and kind of focus in a food abundant environment leads us to all sorts of health problems and early death. So again, everything is relative to the context we're in. And so again, we're in this food abundant context. So you have this intrinsic natural fear that you're going to be hungry because again, hunger was one of the primary things that was going to dictate your survival. So it's always going to be there. It's part of being a human being. But what we're looking to do is to kind of engage with it, to understand it, to manage it. And the primary, primary way you're going to manage your fear of hunger is to have a foundation of calm, peaceful, grounded relaxation. Now, even then, it's still work. Okay, but this is absolutely a crucial stage. And so once you have this calm, peaceful relaxation, what you do is you start to interface a little bit with the hunger. And this is where I think being mindful, not being a mindful eater, being mindful of hunger, of what slight hunger feels like as it progresses into a more intense hunger. What's that feel like when you know you've eaten enough and you start to feel hungry? You sit with that. What does that feel like? What am I saying to myself? What am I thinking? And a lot of times you're going to notice is there are a lot of times when you're just slightly hungry or something in the environment triggers you to think about eating and now you feel hungry, when in reality you're not genuinely hungry right now, again, genuinely hungry is a really funny phrase because we can see food and all of a sudden we're hungry. We have an idea in our mind. All of a sudden we've got a memory of a food. Now we're Hungry. So hunger is a very complex thing. But again, if we want to have some foundation we can build on, it's going to be that calm, grounded, relaxation one. And then we're going to start to interface with the thoughts and the ideas that come in our mind that get us to eat when we know we've had enough food. The afternoon snack, the nighttime snack, the extra helping of food, these situations are the ones you want to start paying attention to. And we first start paying attention to our calm and our relaxation. We ground ourselves. Let me calm down, let me pay attention. Then we start paying attention to the subtle thoughts we have about the foods. What are we saying to ourselves? Because a lot of times we'll say I'm starving, when we're not really starving. We just thought about a cookie we wanted to eat. They're different things. And so as you start to pay attention, you start to make more granular distinctions between hunger and fullness and the gradients between it. You start to understand yourself deeper and it increases your ability to, to exist with a state of hunger, which you're going to need to do to some degree to lose weight. Now, in my opinion, the sweet spot is you really are aiming for slight hunger. That's the sweet spot where you want to be to lose weight. And slight hunger is a relative thing. Okay, extremely hunger is not going to serve you well. Because when you're extremely hungry hungry, the first thing that happens is you're now no longer in a state of calm, grounded relaxation when you're truly, genuinely hungry. When you're genuinely starving, you are absolutely stressed and obsessed with food, so you can't stay grounded, calm, relaxed. Okay? So again, mild hunger is really the sweet spot we're looking to get comfortable with. Because a lot of times mild hunger, sometimes it's just a little bit of hunger physically that we're just getting normalized to because we're not overeating anymore. And sometimes a piece of that slight hunger is just mental health that we're just not eating when we used to eat. And so now what feels weird because we used to hear, now we're not that weird feeling we're interpreting as hunger, when in reality it's just because it's weird. It's just something different we're doing. So again, the main point is this, that the more you start to interface with hunger from a calm, relaxed place, the better you're probably going to do with your weight loss. Because again, understanding hunger in the context that you experience it in, you need to make some peace with it, you need to understand it and then come up with some strategies to deal with it because it's obviously one of the main things that you need to deal with in order to change your reading, which is what's going to change your weight. So if you want some help doing this, click the link in my bio. Go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. It's called the New Thin Me. And it's going to help you calm down, relax, put lots of good stuff in your mind, and I think you'll find that you naturally make better food choices coming outside out of that session. And so that's completely free. Go check it out. I'll submit a training for you, send you a bunch of emails, got a bunch of cool stuff for you. It's all free. Go check it out. And if you have any questions, feel free to ask them. What's up, David? How's it going over there? Everyone's on a nice day. Happy Friday. Friday. Friday. What the hell? Plane went over. Yeah, another Friday here this week went back kind of quick, but this was a great week for me, I gotta say. Really, I really considered this the first week of fall for me kids back in school, things kind of calming down and I feel myself settling back into my routine. And it's actually really nice. Probably the most relaxing week of work. Even though I did a ton, I. I really been flow, flow state. I've been a nice flow state. What's up, Barb? Barb says genuinely hungry. Yeah, genuinely hungry. I mean, again, to even notice.
When you, when you start to recognize what genuine hunger is versus mental and emotional hunger, that alone is really valuable. Even if you can't control it all the time, just understanding it is so, so valuable. Yeah. Barb says, can you address eating for fun? Yeah, absolutely. Again, in programming yourself then we really make that distinction. So again, in, in program yourself then there's knowing what to do, there's knowing how to get yourself to do it. So knowing what to do is really this goal weight blueprint, right? And so this is really your roadmap, your plan. And part of it is we have an eating blueprint here, okay. And so we go through the steps of awareness, becoming aware, structuring and optimization. But when it comes to structuring, the main structure that we use is this concept of clean pleasure days. Eating for fuel or eating for fun is another way to think about it. And so eating for fun and program yourself then is really the very bullseye of the eating plan. So in program yourself then the Very first thing you do to come up with kind of your eating roadmap, your blueprint is that you plan your pleasure meal. I know it sounds strange. It's a little different than a lot of their diets out there. And so the idea is that you are going to choose your most pleasurable meal because.
Most people are going to do this anyways. Now, this is not a cheat meal. Okay? So I want to be clear about that. It's not a cheat meal, it's not a binge meal, it's a pleasure meal. So what's that mean? Well, a pleasure meal is a meal you're going to have that gives you the maximum amount of pleasure. Now, hold on. I know your first response, probably in the back of your mind, is, oh, eating for pleasure. I'm going to eat everything. I'm going to eat everything. Hold on. I don't believe that eating everything is the most pleasure you can get out of food. I do not believe that. I do not believe when you're overweight and want to lose weight that eating just a ridiculous amount of delicious food is really the most pleasurable. I want you to stick with me on this because I think when you want to lose weight and you overeat, I think physically you feel stuffed and low energy. I think mentally you feel discouraged and you feel negative about yourself. And I think emotionally you feel frustrated and let down. Now, not while you're eating. I get it. While you're eating, you're eating. Right? But I'm talking about as soon as you stop eating. Now you said. Well, yeah, but Jim, this was about the meal. No, because we got to look at all three phases of eating. Anticipation, consumption, consequence. There's three phases there. And the biggest phase of all is consequence. So we're not going to do this shit anymore. We're not just going to pretend consequence doesn't exist. It does exist and it exists whether you want it to or not. So you can ignore it, go ahead. But that consequence always exists. It exists every single time we make a food choice. And when we make healthier food choices, we tend to enjoy the consequences more. And when we make unhealthier food choices, we tend to tend to enjoy the consequences less. And of course there's short term and long term consequences there. Okay, so when we take the consequences into account and we look at the most pleasure you can get out of food. Now we've started to change the definition a bit, haven't we? Because eating a gallon of ice cream, again, how is that the most pleasure? It's the most pleasure if you just make a wall here and completely ignore the consequences. But we're not doing that anymore. You've got to stop doing that. And so when we look at eating a gallon of ice cream, a whole cake, now all of a sudden we say, well, it tasted good. Eating it was fun eating it. And then I paid the price physically, mentally, and emotionally. Five seconds after I took the last bite, I started paying the price. And that paying the price lasted 24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours a week sometimes. So we've got to take this definition in. And so now we redefine what pleasure is and what it becomes is, how can I enjoy the food at the maximum level? And I would suggest what you may find out when you ask that question. Certainly what I've found out in a lot of my clients have is that eating the foods that we really enjoy moderately while we feel in control and while we're at or aiming at our goal weight is the most pleasure you can get out of food. It's the sweet spot. And I think when you start to realize this now, you won't believe this at first, because you've been conditioned your whole life, that more is pleasure. Pleasure equals more when it comes to food. But it's just not true. It's not true. And I will dare you. I will challenge you. I will have you sit in front of me, take your favorite food and eat the shit out of it, and then let me talk with you for the next hour afterwards. And guess what? You're not going to feel happy with yourself. You're not going to think good things about yourself, and you're not going to feel great physically. And that's the fact, Jack. There's no. There's no avoiding that.
Is there? Does anyone. Anyone. Is anyone gonna argue this with me? I'm not arguing that it's not fun to look forward to a binge and do the binge. I'm not arguing that part. I'm talking about the second that. The second that last bite finishes. That's what I'm talking about. And how are we just going to ignore that that exists? Now I know we ignore exists. I did this for years because then I gotta watch tv, scroll on the phone, read something, do something to disassociate from all of this. That's probably what you do. Because I dare you. I dare you. The next time you overeat or choose unhealthy food or binge on something, I dare you to sit for five minutes quietly in a Room with your body and yourself. Go ahead, let me know how that experience goes. Let me know if it's a positive or a negative experience.
So eating for fun to me means something completely different than it does to most people. And in program yourself, then we literally work on eating for pleasure because most people don't even know how to eat for pleasure. Sure, you know how to overeat, you know how to go yourself, you know how to binge, that's not eating for pleasure. And most people that, that come into the program, myself included, I didn't know this. I didn't know how to eat for pleasure. I didn't know what the sweet spot was. Now, now listen, now that I know the sweets, but I still regularly go over it, I want to be crystal clear. There is no perfection here, okay? There's just better and better and better that I do over time. So I still make mistakes, I still overeat, I still choose too much, I still choose the wrong food sometimes, but it's way less than it used to be. Okay, so it never, you never get a hundred percent with this. But what happens is you start getting a lot better at because you start to realize, I, I don't want to eat that much of it. I don't want to have the third helping, I don't want to eat again, I feel like shit afterwards. And all that happens, it, that happens from shifting our focus onto the consequences. And the more you start to do that, you redefine what eating for fun is. So I hope that helps. Barb, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yes. Consequence. Bingo. Good. Barb likes that. So good. And that's what I mean. Like that's one of those core differences. We make a program yourself then and we build around. That's why I say like for most of you dieters and weight loss, you know this, that subconsciously what weight loss means is deprivation. Giving up your favorite foods. So I'm program yourself then we, we just, we seek to destroy that right from the beginning. The first thing you do in your eating blueprint is choose a pleasurable meal. Now, there's a million reasons why we do this. I'm not going to get into them all right now. But one of the core reasons is that you get out of that mindset that weight loss equals deprivation and you start to realize weight loss equals more pleasure. There's so much more pleasure waiting for you folks. There's so much more pleasure in mastering your weight than eating food non stop all day long. I'll argue that. So, yeah, I hope that helps. Out.
Here I see it's always like tick tock is. I love tick tock. But.
If I don't get the questions in time, it skips a lot of them. What's up, Don? Don says sorry, forgot to ask yesterday. I missed the link for the blueprints. Can you send again?
Yes, Don, I. Well, I don't have them right now. I just ordered them. They should be in next Friday. So I will, I will have them ready for to go again. And so next, next Friday.
I should have them.
Oh, and you'll get yours quick too, because I know Shereen was saying yesterday she lives kind of in between you and me and she got hers yesterday or the day before even. So you should get them quick.
I'm trying to recover from a week long binge. I gained seven kilograms. Yeah, okay, so let's look at that, right? So I mean, yeah, week long binges, it's not, not an unusual thing, okay? Not the end of the world. Because it's any weight you can put on in a week, you can pretty much take off in a week. Now that's not exact, okay? It's not always exact. So I don't want you to, you know, hold me. It took me nine days, took me two weeks. Okay, that's not what I mean. What I'm saying is you don't want. In your mind, sometimes in our mind, we think the weight we put on is going to last forever and the weight we lost is going to come back tonight. You know what I mean? We just naturally do that. Negativity bias showing up. So a week of binging is the equivalent of a week of dieting in the long run.
In the long term. So, you know, a week's really not a big deal either way. You know what I mean? Like, what do you think? What's one week of dieting going to do for you Now? Notice this is just a fun experience, just a little aside, right? Because the negativity bias that we have is just so such a big factor for so many reasons in your weight loss. But here's just an example to kind of experience that. That thing that you have to deal with is that when you think about binging for a week, right, you think how catastrophic that feels, right? Like you're never going to be able to lose that weight you put on. But then think about times when you stuck to some weight loss plan perfectly for a week. Like you don't think all the weight's gonna fall off you forever. You know what I mean? Like it's it's funny, which is to say your brain over emphasizes, over connects to blows up negative stuff more than positive stuff. That's that negativity bias that we all have. And so this is one of those fundamental things, mindset wise that you really need to learn how to manage because it's just always going to be there. You're never ever going to focus and have the positive stuff be the bigger thing than negative stuff. Negative stuff just always grabs our attention more than positive stuff is always going to continue. So the first thing blee blee is it was okay, it was a weak binge. I got a little off track. Seven kilograms, 11 kilograms, doesn't matter, you get back on track. This if you just got back on track magically right now and for the next week you'd probably drop 5, 6 kg, you know what I mean? So the big thing to watch out for is like when we get off track, sometimes our brain makes it feel worse than it actually is. And that's a big part of kind of managing our weight is to be able to manage the, you know, the wobbly times. And the, the key thing when we hit the wobble time is just okay, relax, it's only been a week, no big deal. Next year at this time, this week's not gonna make a shit of difference. I'm so get myself back on track now. Getting back on track, okay, but I think the first thing is always mindset. I think again once you get off track for a week, you know it's a week up here, but back here your mind's like, oh my God, it's felt like two years I've been off track. Seven kilograms feels like 100 kilograms. It feels, our brain starts to make it feel like, oh my God, I stumbled all the way down the bottom of the mountain. No you didn't. Okay, you're going to be okay. Just start to get back on track. Like I said, if you magically got back on track, you'd probably drop 5, 6 kg over this next week. But if you're something probably happened to trigger the binge. And so getting back on track, you either just magically get back on track. Perfect. And or you start to slowly and systematically get back on track. And so there's your two options. But either way we want to start moving on track. And the first step to doing this, it's just a week, just a week, no big deal. Just relax from it. In the span of a year it's going to make no difference. What really matters now is what you do Next. And you're either in a position to just kind of kick yourself right back to where you were and, or make a small change that kind of nudges you back in that direction and either one of them is going to start to feel better. And again, you're just building your way back. That's so much of what weight loss is, you know.
But yeah, keep going, keep going. Again, the backslides, the steps, the binges, the bad choices, that's just part of weight loss. Okay? So there's no avoiding that. There's no path of weight loss that you're going to do for any period of time where you're not going to make mistakes, go through periods of binges, have a bad week, have a whatever. It's just always going to happen. And so, you know, I saw someone write guilt and, and that's again, that's one of those things that like we have a bad week and we feel guilty about it. You know, I will tell you, like, if I have a bad week, I don't feel guilty about it. What if I have a bad meal? I don't, I don't feel guilt, I don't feel shame, I don't feel any of that. I just look at it as kind of objectively and calmly as I can. I want to understand what happened there, right? Because usually if I have like a week long binge, there's almost always a reason. I rarely have week long, like off track things anymore unless I'm on vacation or that. But.
But, but if I do, I will look at, say, what's going on there now. I'm not saying, hey, you dumb asshole, why are you eating the wrong foods? I'm not saying that. I'm saying what's leading to this. And I almost always, it's almost always the same answer that my energy is low. I'm using that as kind of a catch all. But my energy is low either. I got a lot of stuff going on over here. I'm kind of overextended. Something emotionally is happening. I'm kind of, you know, it's draining my energy. I got big decisions to make. You know, life's just kind of crazy over here and it's draining my energy. And that's usually the reason why I'm turning to food most of the time or making poor food choices. My energy is low. Physical, mental amount, physical, mental, emotional energy is low. And that for me is usually the thing that's triggering me to eat the way that I'm eating. So when I make food Mistakes, that's my paradigm. That's how I'm looking at it. And I almost always say, oh yeah, that's going on. Oh yeah, that's there. Oh yeah, that's there. And now I'm supportive, encouraging with myself. I'm not piling on top of myself more and say you fucking jerk. You loser. Oh look how you ate. I told you you'd fail. Like Jim, I'm not doing that to myself at all. I love myself, I'm supporting myself. I want to help myself succeed most of. And listen, I got a negative voice in my head too. So I've learned how to manage it. But most people are walking around trying to lose weight primarily through this voice they've internalized in their mind. It's almost always primarily a parent. And it's very, it's not your whole parent, but it's the kind of, the worst part of your parent a lot of times the very kind of punitive, angry, belittling, you know, and so it's usually parent esque with other things kind of dropped in there. David Goggins, a little splash of Jillian Michaels. And it's like we got this voice in our head that's always like at us, you know, and as soon as we make a mistake, instead of encouraging and supporting us and trying to help us to understand and move forward, it just makes us feel like shit kicks us when we're down, makes us feel worse. So that fundamentally to me is so crucial to get the results you want because, and I know a lot of you. No, no, Jim, enough of this horse happy horse shit. If I'm going to succeed, I gotta, I gotta demand the best out of myself and really push myself. I mean that's fine if you want to believe that, but if you've been overweight for more than 10 years, I'm here to tell you that's not working and it's not gonna work. You know, it rarely does. So again, I'd rather be encouraging and supportive. I don't feel guilty. I don't feel guilty when I make mistakes. I, I feel curious. I want to understand what's going on. Did I just, you know, something happening there? Don't have the right strategy, what's going on? And I'll seek to understand it and I'll put that up against the guilt, shame, beating yourself up all day long. I think there's no question it's the, the dominant response energy of Feminina says, what do you think about meat? Well, you know, I mean I'm pescatarian So it's like I'm not fell. Listen, I'm not too judgmental because I don't understand myself. I don't eat land animals. I haven't eaten land animals for 25 years. But I see animals. I can't explain it. I'm not gonna say it's the most rational of. Of things. I do have reasons for that. So it's not as arbitrary as it may sound. But me personally, I no doubt my body feels like it thrives on. I'm really. I'm vegetarian. I'm pescatarian technically, but I eat fish maybe once every other week. I eat clams maybe once a week. That's about as much seafood as I eat pretty much. That's not true. I kind of eat shrimp on the weekends sometimes. So anyways, it's very little though. So I find for me personally a veganish vegetarian pescatarian diet for me is where I feel like I'm thriving. I love it. And I used to eat tons of meat. The first 20 years of my life, I ate meat every single day, multiple times a day. So I, I ate a ton of meat and I enjoyed it. But once I started becoming vegetarian, ish, well, vegetarian, I don't know. Again, people are very picky with the things. That's why I throw that out there. But, but I feel amazing as, as a vegetarian. And my philosophy is also pretty pro vegetarian. I'm not a huge fan of meat. I think I don't have a problem with it. And I think natural hunting, meat, eating it I have zero problems with. I think when you start getting to farmed animal food, I think there's health issues that are an issue to me. Certainly there's some ethical, moral concerns as well, but I put those to the back. But I think that in this culture right now, I think people are way overeating meat. I absolutely think that. I think people. You've been conditioned to just be obsessed with protein. I don't think you need as much protein as you think you do. I certainly don't think you need to eat as much meat as you do. And I don't think it's helpful for most people. That's what I think, you know, but who cares? You know what I mean? If you don't feel that way, it's fine. I've got Carnivores, my program. So my program is agnostic diet. Agnostic. You can be whatever you want to be in it. But. But you asked my opinion on it. So my personal opinion is that I am pescatarian vegetarian, vegan, ish version of that. And I feel that that's the healthiest diet for me, you know, so I'll just leave it at that. What's up, Karen? How's it going?
Yeah, 3 ugly says I never deny myself anymore. Portions are much smaller, though. Yeah, that's perfect. I literally almost did a lesson today on there's no bad foods, there's only bad behaviors. And I love that concept, you know, because I think a lot of people, they're like, well, I can't have any ice cream. If I eat ice cream, I'll eat a pint of it, you know, and it's like, maybe that's true right now, but maybe it's also because every time you think about weight loss, it's like you have to completely give up the ice cream. You know, that's what a lot of dieters do. They always just like go black or white, you know, all or nothing, cold turkey. And it's like, there is another way where you learn how to be more moderate. Oh, I can't moderate. Yeah, but maybe you suck at it because you never practice it. You know, just because you can't moderate right away doesn't mean you can't do it. I'm going to assume you've never really learned how to be a moderate eater in a strategic way. And to me, I think most of the time moderating is better than excluding, you know.
Nice. Karen's making a charcuterie plate for lunch. Nice. Those are always fun. Celeste says. Is it an ebook? If not, do you ship to South Africa? No, it's. Well, this is an ebook, actually. This is.
But this is only for people in the program right now. I do. I'm working on a book right now. It's going good too. I gotta tell you, I. I did the classic gym. Classic gym is that. I think I'm like 70% done, but I think I'm 95% done. And that little mix up in my brain messes me up because I know I'm further away deep down, but I don't acknowledge it. And anyways, I didn't do that this time. I've really. I keep working through it. It's really been great. I'm really hitting a whole new level in stride with my productivity. I've been working on it for a while, but I've really made big gains this year. And so anyways, that book, though, will be available on Amazon for everyone, everywhere you can get it. Just like an Amazon book. This one here is for at this point only for people in program yourself then. And I'm sold out of them right now. But I got more coming in next week. I will have them. And yeah, you can get them, but it is also an ebook, you know, in the program. So if you're in the program, you can get this right now. It's in the Circle app. Just download it. It's right there waiting for you. This is an extra thing. If you want to get this, you have to order it, but you do have the PDF that's available right in the program.
What's up, Sarah? Oh, let's say rebarb's comment first. You're teaching. So clear, relatable, comforting and hopeful. Well, thank you, Barb. I appreciate that. Take a screenshot of that.
I just love my. I appreciate that. You know, hey, listen. You know, if you do that, you do something long enough, eventually you get good at. I bet. I've been doing this professionally for over 20 years and.
And I've been doing this podcast now for almost three. Over three years. Is that true? No. Is it? I don't even know. I. I've lost track of time. I don't know if other people like this. I swear Covid did something. My memory banks. But anyways, I don't know. This is like episode 607, so maybe it's been three years. Yeah, I must be yapping every day. But I. Like I said, I've done over 6, 000 private weight loss sessions. I just talk for hours and hours. I was talking to my kid about that the other day. He's like, how do you talk so much? I was like, I don't even know. I don't even know. He goes, you know, you just keep talking about weight. You just talk about weight non stop forever. I do. I really do.
Anyways, thanks for that comment, Barb. I appreciate that. Sarah says, whenever I am successful in losing significant amounts of weight, I struggle afterward with thoughts and cravings to eat. Bad. Not sure what's happening there. I don't struggle reaching the goal. I struggle staying at the goal. Weight. Okay, Sarah, let's talk about that. Because that's the cornerstone of what I'm talking about here is that what you just said is pretty much everyone's experience. And everyone's issue is that the losing the weight is easier than maintaining it. Why is that? This isn't rocket science. This isn't your metabolism changing. It's primarily a psychological thing. Okay. And so what's going on is that, you know, most people, when they're going to lose weight. They trade the excitement of the pleasure of the food for the excitement and the pleasure of the scale going down. And so there's really no difference. Technically, they're focusing on the losing weight, and that almost becomes addictive, almost as addictive as the food can be. And then all of a sudden, you get to your goal weight. What are you looking to now? What's motivating you now?
Right? What? No, just staying there. Oh, yeah. You ever heard of hedonic adaptation? Hedonic adaptation is something that happens to people. They normalize to their reality. So if you've ever gotten a new car, right, and you're like, holy shit, I can't believe it was a new car. And you're so fired up and jazzed about it for a couple months, and then it just becomes your car, right? That's hedonic adaptation. And so that's always something that's there. We've got to recognize that. This is what I mean when I say you've got to understand your mind because it's. It doesn't work the way you think it does. And a lot of people are just making real simple, silly mistakes because they just don't understand how their mind works. But even the sadonic adaptation, you've got to prepare for it. So if you're going to lose weight and your main goal is, I just want to get to my goal. We just want to get to my goal. I just want to get to my goal away. And then you finally get there. Where does the motivation come from now? Well, you say, oh, it comes from next. I'm just going to live there. But this is where everything falls apart, because what's going on is. And the diet industry is a big part of this. The diet industry has sold you this, that getting to your goal weight is like this fairy tale. Like you're just going to get there. You did it. Great job. You know what I mean? It's this, this thing you did wonderful. And they just kind of say it like that. But then what? You subconsciously just say, yeah, I did it. Now I don't have to worry about anything. That is the day you get to your goal weight is the day you have to start living at your goal weight. And I'm assuming you want to live at your goal weight forever. So you have to understand, again, understand this dieting is about getting to your goal weight. Program yourself then, is about living at your goal weight. And those are two totally different things. And so program yourself then. Right from day one, we really are focused on maintenance, living at your goal weight. So the idea of living at your goal weight and the idea of getting to your goal weight as fast as you possibly can, those are two completely different strategies. And so if all you care about is losing weight and getting there as quick as you can, and that's your obsession, you're going to choose extreme things, and you're going to run through them fixated and focused and excited about just getting to your goal weight. And all of a sudden, you get to your goal weight. And now what happens? And now here I'm going to. I'm going to sound negative, but please understand, I'm not. Okay, you're going to get to your goal weight, and you're going to say, oh, I don't look as good as I thought I was going to look. Oh, I still feel like today, Oh, I still fought with my partner. Oh, I'm still stressed about this work. I got to get doing done. And now the big issue is that now what are you looking forward to? Because now you can't look forward to the food, you can't look forward to the weight loss. So what are you looking forward to? To stay motivated and on the track.
You would have to let me know that. So in program yourself, then right from the beginning, we are seeking to deal with that. And we're right from the beginning saying, listen, getting your goal weight's exciting, but that's just a phase. You know, the weight loss phase is just the initial phase of what I'm talking about here.
And so right from the beginning, I'm, I'm. I'm challenging your brain to think beyond the weight loss, beyond just getting to your goal weight. I want you to think about living at your goal weight.
And I think the secret to doing that is that you have to take your weight loss and wrap it in personal development. So I'm programming yourself, then. It's really, in a weird way, and I got to do this, because I got to deal with this issue, is that we need to make this really not about weight loss. Because if we make it all about weight loss, what's going to happen once you lost the weight?
So we need to make this about personal development. And so in program yourself, then it's not really about losing weight. It's about living as the best version of you possible. And that's what I want you to start thinking about. That this is about being the best Sarah that you can possibly be. And so I don't know what's important to you, Sarah, Okay? But if you look at your life and what are the most important things? There's probably some relationships are the most important, you know, some, some focus years in life. You know, maybe it's work, maybe it's adventures, maybe it's learning, hobbies, whatever, Whatever things are most important to you in your life. What I want you to start doing is I want to start thinking about the best, Sarah, that you can imagine yourself being in, how you would show up in those areas of your life, how you would perform, the results you would achieve, the accomplishments you'd have if you were at your best in those areas consistently. And now what happens is you start to move beyond just the weight loss piece of it, and you start thinking yourself as a better and better and better version of yourself. And what happens is now we never lose the motivation, because here I am, right? I lost over 50 pounds over 30 years ago, okay? And so 30 years I've been at the same weight. I had one blip 14 years ago, I put £25 on. But other than that, I've been at the same weight for 30 years. So what motivates me, it's not how I look. I mean, I'm happy, I look how I look, and that's cool, but that's not really the main thing. What really motivates me is that each and every day I keep getting better. So I'm programming yourself then. Like I was saying, we're not just looking at weight. What we're looking at is we're looking at mindset, we're looking at lifestyle and we're looking at eating. And so I'm always working to optimize this system because it keeps making me a better and better version of myself. So I'm at the same goal weight, but I'm as fired up as if I was trying to lose 50 pounds, you know what I mean? But my goal is not the 50 pound weight loss. It's I want to be a better and better and better and better version of me. And that's never going to end. And so I've got this never ending motivation in me, which is crucial, you know, because I asked her, I said, yeah, like what? What's going to motivate you once you get to your goal weight? What's motivating you now? What are you looking forward to? Said good question. Which means you probably don't have an answer to it, which is probably the reason why you kind of hit the cooling jets. Once you get to your goal weight, you achieved your goal. What's the goal now and where's the motivation come from? You know, so that's why we got to reframe this whole process from the beginning, in my opinion, you know, because otherwise I think you're just going to run out of steam. You're not going to have anything that really jazzes you up, that keeps you going. So if you take your weight loss rapid and personal development, that becomes the, the never ending goal. And it's very inspiring and it's a great. To me, it's a great strategy for life because I'll be 150 years old and I will still have something I can work on. It won't be the same things I'm working on now. It'll be something different. But there's always going to be something I can improve. It might be a mindset thing, might be a lifestyle thing, might be an eating, you know, strategy I'm using. But there's always something I can work on to get myself feeling better and better and better. So I feel like that's crucial. You know.
Sarah says, so I have to form a lifestyle, go to motivate me. Yeah, I would think so. I mean, it's just, it's Sarah, it's got to be a bigger goal than just weight loss. It's got to be a bigger goal than what you look like. That's the big issue for most people is that dieting has conditioned you to think about your weight loss goal as a visual thing. Right? I mean, every single weight loss ad you've seen is the before and after picture. And so that's trained your mind to think about weight loss as an aesthetic, superficial, like what you're going to look like thing. And it's missed out on all the deeper reasons why you'd want to lose weight. You know, improved metabolic functioning, improved cognitive functioning, more energy, more flexibility, more strength, feeling more successful, you know, feeling more momentum in your life, taking more action, you know, all these things, right? And we don't think about those things, but, but they're there and they're absolutely impacted. And not even just by the weight loss, but by how you're eating, how you're living, how you're thinking. You see what I mean? So this is where they kind of converge and they lead you and support you to be at your goal weight for the rest of your life. But it's in service of achieving more. It's not. The main goal isn't to be at a number. The goal is to be this person who you want to be to live the life you want to live. How can that not be more motivating than a number on a scale? The number on a scale means nothing to your subconscious mind, by the way. Let me point it out. Let me prove it to you. Imagine all of a sudden the, the, you know, American Medical Society comes out and says, you know what? We're not going to measure your, we're not going to weight by pounds anymore. We're going to measure it by square inches of skin. And the, the goal is to be 36 square inches of skin. Now, I say that to you, right? That has no meaning to you. You have no reference point, 36 inches of skin. What's that mean, the weight? The number has nothing. It means nothing to you. Now again, it means something. You, you've conditioned, you've associated meaning to it over life and reality that you live. But subconsciously, intrinsically, that number has nothing to do with you. You've never weighed yourself. People never weighed themselves before 50 years. You know what I mean? Like, no one had scales. You didn't, we didn't evolve with scales and mirrors and pictures of ourselves. We have a very low sense of what we look like. It's not very intrinsically motivating. You think it is because it's just pumped down our brains the whole time we've been alive in this reality. But, but, but again, I'll put your number, I'll, I'll see your number that you're aiming at, and I will see you and I'll play poker. I don't know how to talk that way. I don't know if I can call what I'm going to do. I'm going to see you. I'm not going to call you. I'm not sure what I'm going to do, but I'm going to raise you. Maybe I'll raise you, but what I am going to do though, is again, I'll take your number on one side and then I'll put it against the person I want to be, the things, the life I want to live, you know, how long I want to live for, the quality of life I want to have while I'm alive, the relationships I want to have, the accomplishments I want to achieve, the adventures I want to go on. Which one do you think is more motivating to you? You know, so again, this is why, by the way, right off the bat in program yourself, then the very first thing you do right after choosing your goal weight is motivation. You all don't know how to motivate yourselves. You know, so it's a crucial skill that you got to learn, you know, as you can imagine. Yeah. Sarah says yes, I need to think on this. Thanks. Yeah, you're welcome. You know, give it some thought though. Sarah, again, great job. I mean, you're a person who takes action, so you're in a great position. You're just missing some key pieces of information. And the key piece of information is what keeps me going once I get to my goal. Why am I doing this beyond just how I look? That's the big question. You know, Barb says this makes so much sense. Says someone who has lost £100 twice and regained. Yeah, Barb, right, I get it. So you know that. And I always say this, and it's, this is really true. Like, people always ask me, like, why do you do this? Because I'm, I'm here every day, Monday through Friday, and I've been doing this now for years. And it's like a mission for me, you know, Again, first off, my journey started. My dad died of a heart attack when he was 54. I was nine years old. So there's no question that kind of put me on this path. But the reason I really, what really drives me with this process is that it's, it's the people that lose weight and then put it back on. I swear those are like the main people I'm here for because I know, like, you're action takers, you're willing to put the work in, like, like you'll do everything that, that's kind of being told you to do, but it's not enough. It's not enough. Dieting is not enough. It doesn't give you the mindset, doesn't give you the lifestyle. And to be honest, it doesn't give you the, the right eating plan either. Not for long term success. And so the people that will actually put the work in and are failing, they literally break my heart. It literally breaks my heart, those people. And, and I'm here for you more than like anyone else. I think about that people in your situation all the time. And, and that's why I do everything I do. And I've got even more stuff coming because again, there's nothing that breaks my heart than someone who's willing to do the work and put the time and the effort in. And because they're not given the right information, they don't get the right results. That literally, that literally keeps me up at night, you know, especially with something so important, you know, as it is with weight and everything. So great. Job, Barbara, great job. Still being here again, you're still engaging and so even listening to me, I will illuminate a lot of kind of missing pieces that you have not had. So again, you've got a lot of qualities already, right? You know that to lose 100 pounds twice takes a ton of skills and qualities. So that's wonderful. You're just, you've been missing a few other key pieces as well. Put those things together. I think you're going to find that you get much better results and keep them. That's the main thing. You know, Natalie says love your insights. Thank you, Natalie. I appreciate that. What's up? XX says, hello, Jim. My scale went up two kilograms, but my body fat percentage drop and my muscles go up.
Finally I can stop eating before bed and eating more during the day. Thank you so much, Jim. I make brownies and have them every day without addictive. Nice. I use real butter and stop buying desserts from shops because I don't know what they use. And they're very sugary too. Yeah, agreed, agreed. I think that, yeah, I mean, just a general rule of eating is that making food versus buying food is always going to be healthier, you know. Are there exceptions? Well, of course, but, but across the board, as a rule of thumb, that's a real good thing to kind of internalize because again, when people are selling food, you know, it's a business, you know, so they're going to put more, you know, addictive ingredients in there, you know. So again, making your own food is almost always a smarter choice and you should really aim to make as much of your food as you can, you know, understanding that there's reasons why you may not be able to make all your food. No judgment here. This is a judgment free zone. What is that? Is that Planet Fitness says that, but this really is true though. Here is Plant Fitness a judge for you. I don't go there, but I walk by there sometimes and I don't know. So Corey, Corey says hello. How did you get rid of eating at night? Yeah, okay, eating at night. Now eating at night was, was something. First of all, I. All I did when I first started wanting to lose weight, almost all of my focus was on my eating at night. So I need to re. I need to remind you that when I lost weight, I did this differently. I was relaxed, I was calm. It was a different process for me because I wanted it to last forever. So I did it strategically so I didn't try changing everything all at once. The first thing I really focused in on was my eating at night. And I, I did trial and error. So I tried different stuff with it. I thought about it, I reflected on it. I paid attention to my nighttime eating. I did lots of different things to really understand it and find strategies and solutions that are gonna work for me. So I can't just sit here and say, do this and it'll work for you. What I would say to you is that pay attention to your nighttime eating and start to notice when you eat more, when you eat less, what triggers you, what foods are you looking forward to. Who's there? Now, again, this doesn't make a lot of sense right now because.
You don't understand probably my whole way of thinking. What I would suggest you, if you're, if you're kind of new to my world, is click the link in my bio and go get the free hypnosis session I made for you. That's where I would start because I made a video training for you as well. It's like 20 minutes long, but you sign up and, and it takes like two seconds to sign up. You're brought to the page of the training. You can watch that. And then in the meantime, you're emailed the hypnosis session. And it'll give you more of a baseline to understand this. But again, the main thing is that eating at night is I didn't just get rid of it, whatever that means. I, I would try different things, I'd understand it. And, and I don't know if that makes sense to you because you may be thinking, what do you mean? I just eat at night, I gotta stop. You know, but that dieters look at things too simplistically. This idea that, oh, if I eat at night, well, I'll just do that. Will pound. I'm gonna stop because I'm gonna diet. Well, what happens to all your neural wiring? What happens to all your neuro associations? What happens to your, you know, habits and thought patterns that you have? What are you gonna do with them? I'm just gonna fight against them. Oh, okay. You know, so again, when you truly want to change embedded habits, it's. You need a more comprehensive, holistic approach to doing it. There's not just like one simple answer either.
What's up, Tara? Tara says I went from 465 to 230. Wow. Holy macaroni. Nice job, Tara, but I'm back at 270. Okay, but Tara, you know, on the same hand, okay, listen, great job. Okay, Great job. That, that's a huge accomplishment. Jesus Louise's. That's. That's. That's twice your. That's half your body weight.
You know, you lost half. Half a tar is gone. All right? So that's what I want you to understand first. I know, right? £40 on that, that can feel scary. And I get that. Okay? But I want you to still remember you're still, you know, 200 pounds lighter than you were. So I want you to always start from that point of view. Again, negativity bias, right? The 40 pounds you gain can override the 200 pounds you're still sitting out lighter. That. That's our brains for us, and that's a big problem because it can put us in this mode where we just start eating. We just. Oh, my God, I hope I don't put the weight back on. Oh, shit, here I go again. I hope I don't start putting the weight back on and we start panicking, freaking out, and putting the weight back on. So the first thing I want you to do, Tara, is just relax. Celebrate your success. You're still successful. You're still 200 pounds lighter. If I talked to you at 465 pounds and I said, hey, you want to wake up Tomorrow morning at 270, you'd be over the moon, okay? So I get it. You're trending the wrong way lately. That's okay. I want you to zoom out for a second, look at the big picture. Great job. Okay? Because that's what I want you to remember now. I want you to zoom into the 40 pound weight gain, and I want you to think what went on there? What's been going on there? Now, again, I don't know the time frame, I don't know what you've been doing, so it's hard to speak real specific here. But I just want to zoom out again. Listen, weight loss, a lot of time, this is absolutely what it is. It's managing these ups and downs and real weight loss. I will let you know this, folks. Real weight loss does not just happen like this.
It happens like this usually, okay? And so we're looking for the trend line going the right direction. But moment to moment, there's ups and downs, there's plateaus, okay? There's all this. And so. And weights are relative things. So what I'm going to do for you, Tara, is that I want you to think about your weight for a second. Statistically, okay? Because you're thinking £40, and that sounds like a real lot. But £40, in your situation.
You know, that's only you know, we're talking about.
Well.
My brain. My brain just shut off. Wait a second. I was gonna do this because I was looking at all the numbers. Let me think here. Let me think which number I want to go with.
Well, first of all, I guess we'll start with this number that you're still 200 pounds lighter than you were. All right? So.
Yeah, so you're still 43% lighter than you were when you started. Okay.
Now let's look at this.
Okay, 17. So you've put 17% of the weight that you lost on. All right? So it's not the end of the world. All right? So again, we just relax. It's been 17%, but now what I would want to do. And again, first. First off, I'm saying this is kind of normal. You know what I'm saying, Tara, to have lost so much weight. I don't know what you did to lose so much weight. I'm going to bet it was pretty extreme. Again, I don't know your timeframes, I don't know what you did, but I'm going to just assume that it was fairly extreme to lose that much weight. I bet you did it kind of quickly. And so I think it's important to understand that at some point with. With extreme weight loss is what this would be categorized as. There's going to be these adjustment periods, and you're going to need to be able to kind of manage this 40 pound gain, staying calm and relaxed and looking at what went on there, what was going on there.
Did something happen 40 pounds ago that kind of trigger you something in life, relationship thing. All of a sudden, being 200 pounds lighter can all of a sudden hit you like a ton of bricks. And, whoa, what the am I doing? I had somebody yesterday say I started freaking out because I lost too much weight. I lost way too fast. You know, one thing people understand a lot of times is like, even when good things happen to us, it can still be disorienting and feel weird. I don't think people recognize this. Good things can happen. This is well studied. I mean, they've studied people that won the lottery. It's. Oh, win the lottery is great. Yeah, it is great on one hand, obviously, but it's also really weird and scary sometimes. And weight loss is the same thing. When you go from being 465 to being 230, it can be very disorienting. I mean, Tara's like a completely different version of herself and people responding away, and you're all of a sudden you're kind of figuring out how to make your way in the world again. It's very weird. Okay, so you did portion control, and I drank a lot of water, so that sounds great. Okay, I'm really glad to hear that. I was worried I was gonna hear keto crazy fasting, you know, something extreme. But, yeah, portion control and drink a lot of water. So now the big question is, what happened £40 ago? That's what I want to know. What happened £40 ago where the portion control got a little wobbly and maybe the water intake got a little wobbly? That's what I'd want to know. Did something happen 40 pounds ago? That's my first question, you know, so let me know if something did. Kristen says, how does menopause affect the approach to weight loss? Menopause doesn't affect the approach to weight loss and program yourself then at all. So regardless of whether someone's completely healthy, whether they got insulin resistance, whether they got Hashimoto's pcos, menopause causal issues, whatever phase, thyroidism, no matter what your situation is, the response is the same. Because in program yourself, then the response is built on kind of a three phase system, which is we follow the goal, weight pyramid, mindset, lifestyle and eating. And so when it comes to menopause specifically, and I will Let you know, 95% of the clients that I've worked with in my career have been in some phase of menopause. Okay? So I have literally watched menopausal woman after menopausal women lose weight. So I do not believe that menopause causes weight gain. Exactly. And again, you can look at Japan. Japan women, their BMI stays the same their whole lives and they go through menopause. So a lot of this is cultural. Now, I won't disagree that everything I mentioned, these physical things I mentioned, they absolutely have the potential to impact your journey. So, for example, any number of those things may slow down your weight loss. You may have lost weight quicker, now you're menopausal and you lose weight slower. I'm not arguing with that. That may be a reality. But what I'm looking to do is I want to go at all three of these things and so especially the lifestyle piece, because my belief is that when it comes to menopause, that a lot of times, the way I look at it, okay, so menopause happens and maybe you feel like things are slowing down a little bit, but I look at it like, okay, you're getting a little bit older, so now you got to Clean up your lifestyle because, yeah, maybe your metabolism slow. Maybe things change a little bit in you physically. And now you can't live that same lifestyle and be the weight you want to be at, you know, and again, it's always come down to the food, too. But lifestyle seems to be the biggest thing that's gonna make the biggest impact for you. And when I talk lifestyle in order of importance, what I'm talking about, specifically, sleep, hydration, relaxation, breathing, nourishment, movement, meditation, gratitude. Those eight habits are the cornerstone of a healthy lifestyle. And the truth is, Kristen, come on. That you don't really know how much is the menopause and how much is the lifestyle and the eating until you start to clean up the lifestyle and the eating, you know, and the mindset. So you don't really know which is which. So for me, when I'm working with someone menopausal or any physical issue, I want to kind of get their mindset straight, their lifestyle straight, their eating straight, and let's see what happens and then take it from there. But I have yet to see someone who's menopausal that doesn't lose weight. I've never seen anyone just because they're menopausal not lose weight. So don't let that be a limiting factor.
Even though it's a challenge. Again, like I, you know, I mean, it's two things. It's a. It's absolutely can be and.
Like a piece of the puzzle, it can be a real challenge, a real issue for you. At the same time, it's not something that's going to stop you from getting the results if you're doing the right stuff consistently, instantly. So that's what I mean.
Yep. Chris is the Audi deal menopause with the incident. What's up, Vicki? Ongoing refocus and refrain is so important to me to maintain my gains long term. Yep. Absolutely. Same with me. Yeah. Your mind going. Reminder to stay grounded in myself. Yes. That's a big part of what I do. Being a poker player. That was very funny. Yes. I got. I. I almost am embarrassed by that. I can't believe I don't know how to play poker at all. I really don't. I've watched movies about it. I've even watched a couple of poker games on tv, but.
Oh, there we go. All right. Caught up on Tick tock.
Kristen says, I think my issue is mindset. Yeah.
Sure. I'm sure part of your issue is absolutely mindset. Kristen and I just. Oh, there we go. All right. Caught up. On Tick Tock.
Kristen says, I think my issue is mindset. Yeah, I'm sure, I'm sure part of your issue is absolutely mindset, Kristen. And I just, I laugh. I'm not, I'm not picking on you. Everyone's issue to some degree's mindset, you know, Um, I laugh. I'm not, I'm not picking on you. Everyone's issue to some degree's mindset, you know, because everything we experience in life is filtered to our mindset, you know, and, and for most people it's like, oh, that was weird. You've never learned, on top of like, never learning how to have a good, healthy mindset. You've literally been trained and conditioned. So it's a double whammy. So I promise you, Mars is definitely your mindset. But another big part of your issue, I can almost guarantee you, Kristen, is your lifestyle. I can almost guarantee it. I work on my lifestyle non stop and it's an issue for me. So it's hard. It's hard in this day and age to live a healthy lifestyle. But boy, it is really, to me, it's your secret weapon. I mean, the mindset's crucial too. I mean, you need a great mindset, but the lifestyle is what really makes things easy, I would say. And for me right now, most of my attention is really on my lifestyle because as my lifestyle goes, everything else goes. And so I'm a huge. I'm always really fixated on my lifestyle, keeping it locked in because as that goes, everything else in my life goes. Well, you know.
Oh, Lanya, what's going on? I know how to say your name. Am I saying it right, though? If you're charged for the book, when shall we receive it? Yeah, if you ordered a book, you should get it by Monday, so. Oh, you stop. So there's the last time I received the mantra email. I will look into that. Elena says, sorry about that. I will look into that and figure out what's going on.
I don't know you. You. I don't know if are you at the end of the program, so you might have stopped and I can restart you. There is another program if you want to keep going with new mantras and sessions. It just keeps going forever. I got that going for you as well, but I'll look in. So I'm not sure.
Where you're at.
Oh, look at that. Kiki Whack. All right. I just received my goal weight blueprint book in the mail. It's pretty fantastic. Thank you. Yeah, you're welcome. Keegan, I'm glad you ordered one. Yeah. So there you go, Funny girl. So again, like I said, all of you will start getting them, probably depending on where you live between now and Monday, you know, you should all have them maybe Tuesday, you know, you know how that goes. But that's awesome. Yeah. Glad you got it. Yeah, it's really cool. I don't know, I'm a big fan of it. Right. It's a. Look at this thing. This is the nicest thing I've ever put together. So it's kind of exciting for me.
What do we got here?
Yeah, it's a beaut. Look at that. But yeah, this one's cool because then you can just write right in it too. So you fill it right out. There's also a PDF version, but this one's. It's neat. So I love this. I don't know, all of a sudden I love making books. I'm telling you, I got another book that's going to be. I think I'll have it done by the end of the month and I cannot wait to get this one out. It's really exciting. Everything's coming together. The way this new books work. I'll just give you a quick, quick thing about it and I see a couple of questions here, but really the program yourself, thin system, really, it's kind of built around these things here. Now this is the blueprint, right? So this is really again your mindset, lifestyle, eating. And then the final piece is Transformation, which really about programming your mind, you know, how to program your mind. So these, all these ideas are going to be laid out and this, this next book that's coming out, it's laid out kind of hypnotically. It's kind of inspired by kind of hypnotic writing, hypnotic stories. So that it explains the main concepts of the program and very kind of easy to understand hypnotic ways. So as you read it, you're kind of internalizing some of these ideas. And so it's not because the next book after that's coming down is going to be the deep dive into all those concepts really explaining it all out and all that. But this one here is really built to be. It's really light reading. It'd be like the perfect type of thing to like read. Like right before you go to bed you read a chapter two and all the chapters are a page or two. It's all short, you know, but it's a great way to get kind of an overview of, of these components and it's really cool. I don't know I've really been loving writing it and I still. Still read it. So. Yeah, Don. Yeah, I will. I'm getting more this week.
So. Yes, you'll be able to order them. I will have them on.
That. Yes, Mari. Yes, I know. Yes, Your blueprint will probably take ages, although it shouldn't. It would cost a fortune to send it to you. But it was like. Yeah, I don't. I don't know how that works. Geez. I know. It's funny, like, someone told me I've sent stuff to, like, Australia and Canada, and Australia is pretty slow. You know, it takes a while to get there. Canada. I kind of forget now how that worked, but I don't know how UK works either. I don't know. Like, I have sense stuff there too, but I'm kind of blanking on what it's like. But yeah, that did go out, Mari. And I don't even have any clue when you would get that. So it was sent out, though, like, Monday or Tuesday. Everyone else was going to get theirs on Monday or Tuesday, so I have no idea how much longer it would take to get to uk. So I guess we'll find out. It's funny, I had to check, like, three times to just make sure the address was right. I'm not used to that format.
Okay. Lori's was still waiting for the book. I'm in the Seattle area. Yeah, Seattle. Yeah. Imagine you'll probably have it Monday, if I had to guess. And that'll be good. Sharon says, what do you mean by lifestyle? Yeah, exactly. Lifestyle. It's a great question. And what I mean by lifestyle, specifically, again, in order. Sleep, relaxation. No sleep, hydration, relaxation, breathing, nourishment, movement, meditation, gratitude. Those eight habits, and they're in order of importance. And so again, in the program, we systematically work to kind of weave those habits into our lives. Because as those habits are in your lives, they really become. They kind of lift you up. They do a lot of the heavy lifting because they. Man, they affect your energy. You know, your energy is controlled by your lifestyle. And as you know, I mean, when you're low energy, it's harder to make changes and make the right choices and choose the right things. And when you have more energy, it's easier. I mean, it's not rocket science. But we never. I don't think we really, like, take that piece out and look at it as itself. So, you know, again, when I look at, like, the. The goal weight pyramid here, right. I think what most people are doing is they're just focusing on the eating, right? So their lifestyle is kind of. So when your lifestyle is. You're low energy, your cravings are higher, your moods are worse, your thinking's cloudier, you know, you're hungry all the time, so it's really hard to make good eating choices. Right. And then the mindset as well. Right. If your mindset's not right and your lifestyle's off, I don't give a what eating plan you follow. It's. Again, it's like building a house from the roof down. It has no foundation under it. So again, program yourself. Then we're dealing with all three of these things at the same time, and we're doing it very strategically. And I don't know, it doesn't, you know, I don't know. I guess anything you do for. For 30 years, it starts to feel like, kind of obvious. But I hope this seems obvious and necessary. If you're out there and you're just like, oh, I don't need. What's this? Just tell me what to eat. If it's 20, 25 and you've been trying to lose weight for 30 years, you're like, oh, it's not this. What's this, Jim, just tell me what to eat. If you're still saying that, what are you doing? You. Do you really not think this is important? Do you really think that just it. Who cares? I just need to tell it to eat and I'll just do it.
Wake up. It's never gonna work. You can't just change this. How could you? And this is what every dieter is doing every Monday. And by the way, this eating is not like you're eating. This eating is not a diet eating just beyond that, just by the way. But again, no matter what you do, if you just do this top piece and you don't do this, I. I don't know. You would have to explain to me how you would get results. Not changing this stuff. How. How did that work exactly? I don't know.
Sea Star says, I lost some weight. My mom looked at me disgusted, frowning. Yeah, classic mom move. Yeah. I mean, you know, again, learning how to deal with people in your life as you weight, one of the main things you're gonna have to deal with. And it's one of those counterintuitive things because you just assume that people that love you and care for you in life are going to be supporting your weight loss. But that's usually not what happens for a bunch of reasons. So, again, you need to be able to absorb or not absorb or repel you know, absorb or repel, whichever one works for you. When she says that, who cares? You know, she can say what she wants, you know, and the way you do that is you reinforce in yourself why you're doing this. How do you feel about how you look? How do you feel about losing the weight? And you do. You. That's what you lean on. That's what you steep and ground yourself in. And so that when your mom comes say something, someone else says them. I went through the exact same thing. Oh, you sick. You look like you're sick. You okay? Jesus, you look like you're sick. Yeah, I used to get all mad. I get so mad, you know, but eventually, I don't give a. I don't. I don't think I look sick. I think I look great. I'm really happy about what's happening to me, you know, and that's where I'm at now. So someone's like.
I had this. I think it's so funny. I had, like.
I went to a class reunion and someone saw me, I don't know, 10 years ago, whatever, 15 years ago. But it was like. Someone's like, jesus, you look like you got. I'm gonna say that's kind of weird. I shouldn't just said that before. But they're like, yeah, look, I got some kind of disease. And they were joking, right? But not really. It wasn't funny. Like, I don't know, but I don't care. I don't give a. You know. So it's like, again, it's. I will tell you this too, like, just on that same tip, that in this society, 75% of the population is overweight or obese. So if you're at your goal weight, and if you're doing it easily, comfortably, happily, you're an outlier. And outliers are always. It always feels weird to be an outlier anyways. So to some level, you're always going to have to learn to be okay being kind of the weird one. If you start eating healthier, if you start living at your goal weight, you're going to be the weird one in most environments, most groups. So.
Yeah, just got to deal with it. But that's the type of stuff you got to deal with. I don't think people think about that all the time. Like, it's not. It's not like when you're. It's not just like when you're struggling with food. It is like. It's like even when you're succeeding, you know, like, that's what I'm trying to say. Like, a lot of times on the weight loss journey, it's like the times you succeed, that can be the most triggering and disorienting and throw you off track. I cannot tell you the number of times that someone's like, hey, how's the week been? Oh, my God, it was terrible. I went to a binge. Why? What happened? I stepped on the scale. It's the lowest it's been in years. I can't tell you the number of times someone's told that to me. So you say, why? Why is that? Because it's fucking disorienting. Don't you understand? Like, we don't just. Like, we're not built to just have the happiest life. We're built to kind of just normalize to whatever we've known. So you can sit here and say, I don't want to be overweight. I don't like being overweight. All the rest of it. But if you've been overweight for years or decades, you can't argue that you're used to it. You're comfortable being overweight. Like, you're familiar and know how. To be overweight in the world and to all of a sudden change that and be a different version of you in the world feels weird. It takes effort and energy to figure out how to orient yourself in that way. I don't. That sounds strange, but I promise you, it's a real thing. And so that's why a lot of times, you know, as people are on their journey, as the scale goes down, it can be triggering, kind of throw them off track as they feel weird. Who am I? Who am I? What am I doing? I literally. I had a client the other day. She goes, you know, a bunch of shit in the world going on. And she goes, yeah, friend called, all freaking out. And the friend's like, wait, what? How come you're not freaking out? You sound so calm. And she's like, oh, I don't know. I guess I've been doing this stuff, whatever. And she goes. She gets weird. She's like, I'm the calm one, right? It's just she's, like, disoriented, though. I'm not the comma. I've never been the comma. What. What am I? It's weird. And that's so much of programming yourself then, is that people are improving and they're. They're transforming, you know, now they're more relaxed now they're more calm now they want to eat healthier now they. They want to eat just the right amount, you know, like all the things you want to do, they want to do it, but it's also weird. And. And so we have to manage that too. And I think a lot of times people don't recognize that, you know, funny girl says weird, but people secretly admire the weird ones for self respect. I agree with that too. I totally agree with that. You know, but you got to steep yourself in that, you know, because again, I went through this. I went through literally losing weight, feeling great about it, and someone would say something shitty to me about it, you know, and so I would get upset. And so I, again, I took a step back, I thought about it where, you know, did all my stuff and. And that's what I came up with. I said, I don't give a what they think any. On the back of my mind, I'm sure, you know, there's a bunch of reasons why they're saying it, but I don't care what they say. I'm going to do this because I want to do it. This is where I feel best. And again, that it comes right back again to my main motivation for doing this are my own reasons. I'm not doing this for anyone else. I'm doing this for me and my reasons. So it was easier to ground myself on those reasons and then kind of shore myself up for what I'm going to hear this shit. I don't care. I don't give a. Oh, you think I look sick? Great, Cool. Thanks for sharing. Appreciate it. Right? Don't give a. And I genuinely feel that way, you know, so. But most of you, if you're on your weight loss path, I can almost guarantee you're gonna have to come up with something. You may like to swear you might want to say, I don't give a. But it's gonna have to. Something like that. You can't. Oh. So I said, you look sick. Oh, my God. I was doing so good. And now my mouse, I look sick. And now I don't want to do this anymore. And I went through that. So I'm not. I'm not judging anyone. I was going through that same thing. But I look at it now and I'm like, what the fuck? I don't care. I don't care what people said to me. It's my life. I always say this, that your weight really is one of the most core, basic, essential freedoms that you have in life. You're the one who gets to choose what you want away.
Right? And so at Some point you've got to decide, what do I want to weigh, where am I at my best, what do I want to do? And then build around that. And it makes it easier to deal with when people say dumb shit. Because they're going to say dumb shit. Guaranteed. Guaranteed.
Moni Glow says, I just want to say thank you. You helped me lose 10 kg. I'm now 52 kg. Great job. Screenshot that. A little testimonial board that I'll never make.
I've got a folder with 5, 000 testimonial things that I just keep in my computer. That's something. I'm gonna do it next week. I gotta put that together. I got a list of like, little things. I'm actually, like I said, productivity wise. I'm literally on a new level. And it's weird too. So I was just talking about this, right? So even for me, just on a. On a business level, like, like product productivity wise and just efficiency wise and organization wise, all of them are kind of melded together. But I am like more efficient and set up than I've been ever in my life. And as awesome and cool as it is, it's weird. It feels weird. And I'm, I'm like normalizing to it. And I don't think people recognize that, like as you're transforming, you can't just go from, you know, £200 to £120. Like, it's just. It shocks your mind, you know what I mean? So usually you kind of, kind of like adjust to it as you go down and get normalized to it. And it's not even just the weight. It's how you're living, how you're thinking, how you're eating all of these things as well. Yeah, but. Great job. Won't he keep it up? Keep it up. Karen says, love your shirt. Oh, thanks. Yeah. You like this?
That's funny. I. It's actually a little. It's a little warm. I'm gonna lie because it's actually warm out here. It's nice. Today I want the book. How do I get it? Oh, okay. Karen. Yeah. You're in the program. So next Friday I think I should have it up. So you're in the Circle app, right? I posted in the Circle app last week. I didn't email it out. I know that's where most people get it, but again, I'm glad because it sold out real fast. But I got more of them coming, so they will be available at the end of the week. And so look in the Circle app, but I'll email out too, as well. What's up, Carrie? Carrie says I've been out of the loop. I need to order, please. Yes, I will. Like I said, I'll send the email out next week when I get them back in. But they should be in Friday maybe, right? I don't know. They're always having disruptions. I guess that's what they're saying. Oh, no. What did I just see? Did I just see Carrie say she's still a nudge? Oh, no, Karen. No, no, no, Karen, you got to get the Circle app. So shoot me a Whoops. Yeah, Karen, shoot me an email because I'll send you the Circle app link. You got to get in there now. It isn't even a thing anymore. I, I, it was so funny. I literally was like, I'm gonna stop using them. I was making the switch over. And literally, like that week, they're like, we're closing down too. So anyways, yeah, nudge, Nudge was fine from I'm thankful for it when it was there, but Circle's a million times better. So, yeah, shoot me an email and we'll get you in there. You can get in there through the membership area too, I think. But if you want to just shoot me an email, I can send you the link and you can get in there and you'll see all the links for it. Yeah, Vicki, I think you'll probably get yours probably Monday or Tuesday. If I had to guess, that's what it seemed like most the dates were. Most the dates in America seemed like they were Monday, so you should get at them. Cool. All right, everyone. Yeah. If you're not my world, make sure you click the link. Go get in my bio there. Go get the free hypnosis session. Or you can go to Program yourself then.com and go get the hypnosis session. There's it's free. There's a training I give you as well, and I send you emails and all sorts of other cool stuff coming on the way. So go, go do that. Go check it out if you like this. I'm here every Monday through Friday, usually around noon Eastern. I'm here to answer any questions you have, so please feel free to ask them. I'm here to help you out as much as I can. And if you like listening to this can't make the live. It's also a podcast called Program Yourself. Then you can go to any podcast platform, search Program Yourself then and it will show up and you will be able to listen to these anytime you choose to, because I upload these as soon as they're done, so they'll be up there ready for you. All right, everyone, have a super duper weekend, and we'll talk soon. Bye.
