Joel Silverstone presents FIRST, a framework for training that treats learning like a Broadway show. The five elements are Fun, Influencing, Results, Simplified, and Tailored. Training works when it feels like an engaging event, not a lecture, and leaves people confident they can use what they learned.

Hi, I'm Joel Silverstone, and let's talk about the training experience. First, learners are participants in their own training process, and it's their experience that comes first. First stands for Fun, Influencing, Results, Simplified, and Tailored. Let's talk a little bit more about each one. Um, does this look familiar? Well, training is an event, or at least it should be, and every person in the room should feel like they are— Experiencing the anticipation, energy, and engagement of a Broadway show and humming the tunes long after the final curtain. So let's get back to FIRST, and the F is for fun. When participants are having fun, they become engaged in team building by sharing mutual feelings. Influence. A conversation in sales, leadership, or presentations cannot be manipulated. It can, however, be guided to create trust and ultimately to influence and aid in achieving the desired result. Results. Participants will leave the training program with the confidence and motivation to say, I'm gonna try that! S is for simplified. Yes, people need to know why something is relevant to their world, and establishing that relevance is the beginning before diving into complexities. And finally, tailored. This experience should be as unique as each individual client or company And all will be treated as such.
