Welcome to the State Shifters Podcast, a show dedicated to helping you discover your true potential through connecting the mind, body and soul. Hello everybody. I'm doing a quick live on a Monday here in Perth and today's lives coming off the back of a week that I've taken away from coaching and my regular work, call it work. And I just wanted to share some quick insights that I've had from my time off. And during my time off I went away and spent some time in solitude and basically booked an Airbnb and spent five days by myself, just with myself. And I've titled today's live Knowing yourself. And the reason why I felt like it was time for me to do this activity or this getaway was because it can be so easy to get lost in the doing, lost in our everyday activities. Even as a coach, you know who I prioritize practices to maintain A connection with myself. Sometimes we can get, I got narrow focus and we get, I got consumed in doing more, doing more, doing more. And as you start to do more, you want to start to keep the energy high because you think if you do more of external things, you will achieve the outcome you're after. But it's, it's the other way around. And with this awareness, I already have this awareness, yet I still get consumed and caught in the external, doing the external, chasing, wanting to achieve more. And it's, it's in these moments where the body, my body was giving me subtle signs that it's time to, hey, pull back, slow down a little bit. And the better you get at knowing yourself, the better you get at understanding and hearing the messages that your body is trying to give you. Now you ignore the message, which is what I caught myself doing in the past. When you cut back on sleep, where you push through when the body's tired, or you, you make that coffee because you're like, fuck, I'm feeling tired, but I need to get up and get this thing done. Or when you skip the meditation because you're like, now I don't have time for that today. I gotta, I gotta get to work. I'm gonna go on that call. It's these little things that we, we overlook when we feel like we've got to do more. We disregard the number one relationship that we have with ourselves. And that relationship with ourselves is based on quality time, quality time that you spend with yourself. And it's basically like energy economics. That's, that's, you know, given the fact that I studied business, economics was a, was a big part of the study curriculum when I was at university. And economics deals with finance. Surplus, deficit. When you have, when you have enough money coming in, you have a surplus. When you have money going out too much, it's a deficit. You're the exact same. Our energy system, our energy body is the same. It's like economics. If you're giving out too much, you're going to have a deficit. And what happens if you don't catch up? If you don't balance the books energetically on the inside, your energy, your body starts to carry forward this deficit. It's like, yo, you're dipping out on the overdraft, you know, the banks depleted and you're pulling from the overdraft by cutting back on sleep, by not meditating, by not exercising or doing too much exercise. And what happens is it comes a point where the body will like, will say the bank will close up the energetic bank closes down and goes, no, no, you don't have it anymore. You get sick or you just wake up one day and you go, fuck, I can't be bothered doing this. I'm not enjoying this anymore. I don't know what it is. I'm doing everything that I normally do, yet I'm not, I'm not enjoying life. I don't have the same zest in life. That's usually an indicator that you've taken too much energy from the bank as time to go back in there and fill it back up. So Mike, in my scenario, ideally you want to get to a place where you have enough self awareness to be able to maintain your energy. Economics all the time. Now I've made this my life's mission. I'm still learning the shit. So be kind to yourself throughout this process. But if, you know, you know, if you're starting to get signs that hey, I'm not, I'm overworked or my mind's too active, or this, I'm not enjoying life as much as I used to, it's usually a big indicator. It's time to just press pause for a second and top yourself back up. You're giving out too much now. For me, that looked like really just going to be with myself to connect with what's going on underneath the surface, what's going on beneath my thoughts, what am I, what am I feeling? What's, what's down there that's trying to be felt that I haven't given myself a chance to feel because I've been too busy trying to do things, trying to run around and do different things and give too much energetically. So this like, it's like taking yourself on a date, you know, like, and I get it, it's probably not gonna be as accessible for a lot of people depending on your situation, families, job commitments and whatnot. But try to make it a priority at least, at least at some points in your week where you take yourself on a date and maybe that date is like you just go for a drive and you sit in the park for a few hours. You don't bring your phone or you don't, you know, you don't talk to anyone. You just sit there and you listen to yourself. You know, in any relationship, one of the primary skills is the ability to listen and to be present with the other person. The exact same thing goes for the relationship we have ourselves. If you don't listen to yourself, if you're not present with yourself, how can you hear what it is that you need. Like, it's like being in a relationship with someone and just ignoring them all the time. They're trying to tell you what they, what they need, and you're just like, oh, no, I have other things that are not important. Like this. This relationship we have with ourselves is the foundation for everything. But we never take ourselves on dates, we never connect with ourselves, and we never just sit in here, say, hey, what do you feel? What's going on? What are you feeling? I'm here, I'm with you. So this practice of knowing yourself, and for me it's come in the form of, of taking myself on dates, taking time in solitude, extended time and solitude, if you can. The more time you can spend with yourself, the better you're going to get to understand these little subtle dynamics, these subtle, these subtle feelings that are going on beneath the surface that when we, when we don't, when we're not connected to that, we just overlook it. We just, we just reach to the next moment. So really learning to just drop back in, Drop back in and feel, especially as men, like, as men, this is something that is a lot more challenging for us because it's sort of been conditioned out of us. It's been conditioned out of us to feel. So we're sort of relearning this element. And when you start to relearn how to feel, it can feel a little bit uncomfortable on an easy. A little bit initially, and that's normal. And expect that, like, if you're going to sit in meditation and you haven't done that for a while, it's going to be quite uncomfortable because you're not used to being with yourself yet. Your inner child is pissed because you've ignored it for so long. So a big part of your process will be getting to just reassure and reconnect and build that relationship back. So for me, that's been about this time in solitude. And what comes from that, what comes when you spend enough time with yourself is, Is way more space, way more clarity, way more insight. Like, I realized that, you know, I was turning to things like coffee, you know, like, I would be like, oh, I didn't have a coffee today. I gotta have a coffee to get myself up to go to the gym or go have a coffee to, you know, get myself up for that conversation. And what, what was going on was I was reaching for something external to pull me away from something internal that I wasn't willing to sit with. That's very, very interesting, very fascinating when emphasize that you Know if you find yourself reaching for something external, if you feel like you need something external, I need that coffee, I need that drink, need that smoke, you know, whatever it is, there's something internal that you're not willing to sit with or be with. Then in my case, a lot of the times was there was this part of me that felt like I needed to do more. This part of me that didn't feel like I was enough and it thought if I just did more and more and more and more stuff, then I could feel accomplished and I could feel seen and understood and significant. And that part of me would drive me to cut back on sleep. It would drive me to work out too much at the gym, and it created this energy deficit. So when I pulled back and had time in solitude, I realized that my body just needed sleep. There was a part of me that just needed to catch up on energy. So for the big part of my time in solitude, it was just about sleeping, sleeping more. You know, I was so caught up on waking up at 5am and getting these, getting the workouts done in the morning, filling my day with coaching, that I was carrying around a deficit in sleep this whole time that was creating an energy deficit. So initially, as you, as you renunciate your external dependencies, you start to feel into, holy shit, I just need to sleep more or I just need to eat more food, I need to eat less food, or I just need to, like, listen to nature for a little bit. You start to hear what it is that you need to have that awareness to really understand what you need. You have to renunciate, meaning let go of anything external that you think you need and then just listen to where your body pulls you. It is that simple. That simple. Like, yeah, it can be amazing when you just, when you give yourself that, just sleep for a few days or just don't set an alarm if you can and have that time to just like, okay, give yourself permission to sleep in. Maybe it's the other way around. Maybe if you're already sleeping too much or if you're not, you're not doing enough, what you need, what that pull is, you want to express more, you want to share more, you want to get more done. It's listening to that calling, giving space for that part of you to emerge out. In my case, it was the other way around, you know, always trying to give, give, give. It was like go back in and really just listen to what it is that I need, which was just to sleep, to be, to be in stillness to just not do anything, you know, let go of this notion that my mind always had to be doing, giving something, creating something, and just listen to what my body wanted at that time, which was just sleep, do nothing. So this all comes back down to the relationship with yourself and all the subsects of that. And I've listed them out because it's so important, the subsect being self responsibility, self accountability, self discipline, self integrity, self love, the relationship with yourself, you got, you've got to solidify or build all those key components, you know, and really once, once you have such a strong relationship internally with you, you know who you are, then energetically, how you show up in the world is perceived and felt by other people. And people, people, we're pulled towards someone who's living in alignment with who they are. And it takes, it takes a lot of introspection to understand, to understand who you are. At your core, you know, at our core we're all the same. At our core, we're all an expression of the one consciousness, the one life that we are. We will share that expression. So the more time you spend connecting with that part of you, the more you're going to understand the unique way that that consciousness wants to express through the vessel that, that it's occupying, which is you, your personality. And it's different. We're all different. We're all different human beings, but we're all coming from the same source. Most of us don't spend enough time understanding the source, reconnecting with the source, plugging back in to the energetic fucking outlet which is life, which is God, which is the universe. So understanding who you are is really the foundation of having a strong relationship with yourself. And once that's established, then you build those key areas like I mentioned. I'm gonna leave it there, guys. Keep it brief, keep it simple. But this week was all about solitude. It was all about reconnection. It was all about understanding myself better again. So if you resonated with this and you want to get some more insight into understanding who you are, shoot me a message.
