14 May 2021 · 20 min
Jordan Candlish talks about trusting your instinct when something feels like growth, even when it scares you. He argues that expansion requires breaking linear thinking and building a loving relationship with yourself to unlock what you're capable of.

What's up, guys? I'm doing a live from the rooftop today. Felt cool to just change up the scenery, you know, and I wanted to speak to that a little bit today in terms of what I wanted to share through what I'm learning through my expansion, through my evolution, through my. My growth here on planet Earth. So thanks to if you're tuning in live, welcome. If you're watching the replay, I appreciate you.
It's so great to have you with me.
I got such an epic view from where I'm standing right now. We've got the beach out there behind me. Beautiful, calm day today, but this is the rooftop where I'll come up and do a bunch of my work. I'll come sometimes, take some calls up here, but I like to change it up. The environment. I'VE spoken about that a lot, actually. The importance of just finding some flexibility or fluidity in your day. And a lot of that comes down to just changing it up. So I'm taking the live up on the rooftop today. It's such a beautiful day. Something that's been really at the forefront of my mind recently is breaking up the linearity of our growth. And to our mind, we think life is linear. You know, we go to A to B to C. We progress in a linear pattern. But, you know, the nature of the universe and nature doesn't work like that. You know, like A, B and C are actually all happening at once at the same time. And what I've done in the past and something I've noticed myself in the past do, is get attached to ways that used to work for me or routines or habits that used to work for me in the past, but I would keep doing them because in the past they work. So I thought, oh, wait, it's linear, right? If it works in the past, it's got to work in the future. But life doesn't happen like that. Yeah, like, life is always. There's this infinite options happening in every single moment. And the more we can get in the practice of listening to, okay, what feels right for me right now, what feels like it's going to serve and support me right now. And then we break down, we collapse that linear pattern, and all of a sudden, life is happening in multiple different directions at once. There's multiple directions that we can. And every single moment really comes down to what is my bliss? You know, what is my bliss in this moment? What is my highest calling in this moment? And the practice that I'm trying to get into is really feeling into that and listening to that and being okay, following that. So as an example, this morning, you.
Know, how that looked for me was.
You know, in the past, I'd be so rigid with my meditation practice, you know, around. Like, you know, I meditate for an hour at this time, and I go to the gym at this time. And it was something that was just regimented. And I would just get up and just do it, which serves a purpose for a period of time. If you're trying to anchor in practices, if you're trying to anchor in a new way of being, having some level of discipline with a routine is great. But now I'm at a point in this process where it's like, okay, like, some days I'm waking up and I don't want to meditate right away. Or some days I'M like, I don't want to go to the gym at 7am every single day or 5am every day. So how can we get up and listen and tune into what does the body want right now? Or what is my highest bliss in this moment Now? The beautiful thing that happens once we try and experiment and feel into all these different ways in which we can do what nourishes us, we almost have like a library or like a tool bag that we can pull from as to what's going to best support us in the moment. And my kind of library of like practices is so big now that it's like, okay, what do I feel like today? Is it qigong? Is it meditation? Is it a walk? Do I just want to sit out by the beach? Do I want to jump in some cold water? When I do a really intense workout, what is going to support me in stepping into my highest expansion? Meaning what's going to give me access to more energy? What's going to give me access to a higher state of frequency? And when you, when you step into that and follow that, you'll notice that every single moment there's a breadcrumb that life is trying to give you, that's trying to pull you into that higher feeling state. Yeah, that higher feeling state. There's always, it's always available to you in the moment. So you'll notice when you don't feel like you're in a good state, you're not going to feel like doing certain things. You know, if you, if you're not feeling like you have a lot of energy, it's like, okay, what's going to get me to that next level? Don't think, how can I jump from like low energy to high energy right away? You just want to think, how can I get to the next step up? Reach for that next feel good thought or that next feel good action. And sometimes it's, hey, I just want to go for a walk. Feel like pretty shit right now. I'm just gonna take myself out for a walk. I'm not gonna jump in and try and do like four rounds of breath work and trying to like transform my state. Start with a little walk, get the energy moving. Start just like moving the body and just being with the experience of this is what's going on right now. And as you follow that breadcrumb, you get another breadcrumb and maybe it's like, oh, I wanna go ride my bike today, or I wanna go swim in the ocean today. If you keep following the breadcrumbs of your life, you will reach a point where you'll realize you're always being guided in every single moment and that you never actually have to worry about where you're going because life is taking you exactly where you need to be. Think about how much we try to control our experience by, you know, trying to overthink what we should be doing and where we should be going. What if we could let go of that altogether and realize that where you're going, you're going to get there whether you like it or not, whether you try to control it or not. Ultimately, the destination is the same for all of us. We're all heading to the same destination. But the journey and the level of enjoyment that we get to bring to that journey all comes down to our ability to get out of here and back into here. So, you know, I wanted to speak to that a little bit today and, you know, letting go of the linearity of our progression and trusting that it's going to change in every single moment. So, like, for me, there's a lot of change that's about to unfold for me. You know, I have two months left on this. This lease that I'm at with this beautiful apartment, literally living on the beach, my favorite beach in the world. And at the end of these two months, I'm feeling like it's time to change. My body's like, hey, it's time to switch it up a little bit. It's time to create a new environment. And I'm most likely going to be moving out to the east coast of Australia. And, you know, following this calling that.
Your heart is always giving you is.
A practice at the end of the day. And that practice for me began when I was working in my corporate job. I did not like my job, but I had this calling that my heart wanted to leave. And I wasn't ready to listen to that calling just yet. It took me 16 months to get into the habit of being okay, trusting what life is trying to bring through me. And to me now, where that trust comes from, from. From what I've understood through the work that I'm doing, all comes back down to your relationship to fear. Okay, so early on in life, when we grow up, we develop a relationship to fear. And oftentimes we experience or notice that relationship to fear. It gets anchored in based on how our parents react to fear, things that happen around us and to us. Now, what gets labeled or put on top of that is a judgment around fear, that fear is bad, that it's bad to feel fear. It's uncomfortable to feel fear. So as you go about your personal development journey or you go inward, all we're trying to do is trying to react, rewire, play around with the wiring of how you respond to fear. Because the minute you're okay feeling fear, everything in life starts to open up for you. It's actually the resistance to fear that blocks us from taking action, to trusting the calling. It blocks us from following our highest bliss in the moment. The resistance to fear, it's not the fear, it's our relationship to the fear. So a lot of the work that we're doing is can we be okay feeling fear? Can we practice feeling fear and actually loving it? Because fear is inevitable part of life. You actually need fear to be a human. If you didn't have fear, you'd be doing crazy shit and you'd probably risk your life every single day because you're not afraid of dying. So fear is programmed into our brain to help us stay alive. So we acknowledge that fear is a part of the human experience and it's great, we need it. But our resistance, our judgment of the fear, how? Avoidance of the fear, our keeping our, like, you know, staying in our comfort zones, we never have to feel fear again. That's all a part of this ego that gets developed, this protective identities that we wear to stop us from ever feeling pain associated with fear. So as we unravel that, peel all of that back and we get to a place where, hey, fear is okay. It's normal to be afraid. It's okay to be afraid. If you think you want to leave your job and go travel the world, it's scary. Like, what, what if things don't work out? But if you can sit back and embrace the fact that, hey, you know what, I'm fully okay feeling this fear right now, and I'm actually going to step into that and own it and it's okay. And recognize that fear is never gonna kill you. You know, think about the main thing we're mostly afraid of is actually the fear that we're gonna fail. Right? We're afraid to take action on things because, because we think something might happen. We're going to let people down, we're going to run out of money. So we're afraid of something that isn't even real. Because if you. I ask people this all the time, it's like, what happens if you fail? What does it mean if you fail? And this gets into the second question, this definition that we've created, this meaning that we've created around on top of the fear, I'm afraid that I'm going to fail. Because if I fail, that means I'm what, Not good enough to receive love? If I fail, that means I'm not worthy. If I fail, it means people aren't going to like me. So I would invite you to think about that question. What is the meaning that you've created around failure? Because the fear of failure is the main thing that stops you from taking action. So what does it mean if you fail? Does it mean you're not worthy of love? Does it mean you let people down? So rewiring this, meaning you've created the rule around failure, rewiring. That is so important. Because the minute you decide I can only fail in life if I give up on myself, that's the only way you can fail. If you give up on yourself, you failed because that's you saying, hey, like my circumstances, I can't do it. I'm not good enough. I give up. You failed. But if you never give up on yourself, if you never give up on staying connected to the part of you that's afraid, if you never give up on giving love to the part of you that's afraid, and that part of you is always reassured that, hey, even if I fuck up, even if I run out of money, even if people start judging me, I'm always going to love myself. How can you possibly fail? You always be unconditionally loved and supported. If you never give up on yourself and you develop that trust with yourself, that level of connection opens you up to taking courageous risks in the trust of your expansion. That level of connection creates that. That level of connection allows you to have a better relationship. To fear. It dissolves this, this fear of failing because you realize you can never fail. You can never fucking fail. And I really, truly believe that. That is such a powerful reminder that we can give ourselves every single day. Wake up. Remember, if I could not fail in life, what would I do today? Or what would. What, what, what would become available to me if I knew I couldn't fail? Or if I was no longer afraid of feeling fear, what would become available to me? What would I do today? Think about that. Think about that and practice that. Can you make little decisions every single day that align with that stepping up and just saying something in front of, you know, speaking up and doing something scary or, you know, posting something on social media? Like, I do shit like this because it scares me a little bit. I'm a little bit scared. Like, what are people gonna Think of me when I jump on live. Or what if no one shows up to my lives and just me talking to myself like, you know, am I gonna feel like a loser? Like, people gonna think, oh, fucking Jordan's got no. No one follows his shit. Like all these stories that, you know, my mind creates to stop me from feeling fear, right? So what if I practice being okay feeling fear, which is me just doing the thing that I'm afraid of and saying, hey, I can't fail because I'm always connected to myself. Even when this fear comes up, I'm gonna just love myself because that's all I'm searching for. That's all I want in life, is to feel loved if it can come internally. And I don't need anything externally. All of a sudden, you're free. You're free. Like, that's it. That's really it. We're all subconsciously chasing love and free freedom. And when you realize that it can only come from you embracing and holding yourself in the face of fear, then what happens is you get trust. You get a level of understanding that you're always going to be looked after. So the journey is, is taking you full circle. This linear journey that we think we're going on is actually like a circular journey. You start off connected to your truth, connected to love. And then you come through life, you build the ego, then we're going full circle, back to ourselves. So the faster you can complete the circle and arrive back home to yourself, back to love, then all of a sudden, infinite possibilities open up for you and you can really follow, follow that feeling of expansion, you know, trust that feeling of expansion. So that's the practice, you know, can you trust that feeling of expansion? Can you trust that your passion is actually something that's coming through you moment to moment? What's your highest level of excitement right now? And really feeling that, feeling that, and just like, where do I feel that my body was thinking about this before? How we go about our days, right? We wake up every single day and sometimes we just like, if we're not careful, we'll just go through the motions of the day. And you really want to start to make a conscious effort at being intentional with everything that you do. And I'm trying to do that again today. Like, I went for a walk and just like sat and thought, fuck, damn, life is good. And just breathe into my heart and really feel into that and really slow down enough to feel how amazing your life is. And sometimes you just have to reflect on all the amazing things that you've achieved. Sometimes you got to reflect on all the amazing people that you have in your life. But I really suggest slowing down, actually making a conscious effort to feel gratitude. It is one of the most important things you can do in your day because it's this emotion that starts to just like swell. You become bigger when you feel grateful and when you actually make the effort to breathe that into your heart and slow down and be like, hey, your life is so amazing. You know, we've got access to so many amazing things that, that is one of the most beneficial and impactful things that has happened to me when I, when I make more of a conscious effort to do that. So I'm always reminding myself to do that. Just be so grateful for what, what we have. And then oftentimes when, when that happens is everything that you have expands, everything that you have grows and appreciates. So being, being consciously grateful for what you have. And today, today I'm just gonna really practice expressing that. So with all that being said, guys, with all that being said, if you're watching this in the replay, if you're watching, watching it live, if you're with me, I appreciate you. But if you ever want to dive deeper into how to actually embody a lot of this stuff that I'm sharing, if you hadn't seen, I announced that I'm going to be starting my next self worth program. It's all about how to build a stronger relationship with yourself. That's kicking off next week. So if you want to be a part of that, I would suggest either sending me a DM or filling out the application form in my Instagram bio. If you want to learn more how to be a part of that program. And really the reason why I created it is because, you know, the relationship that we have with ourself is really shaping the relationship we have with life, because we are life. And I wanted to really bring together the core components, the core foundational components of how do we actually create that deep, fulfilling, nourishing, loving relationship with who we are. And over the last four years, I would say that my relationship with myself has really exponentially grown. And through noticing that, I've seen all other relationships in my life around me build off that relationships with money, my relationship with my girlfriend, my relationship with my family, my relationship with my job, with my creative work. It's all expanded around my connection with myself. And as I've coached more people, I've actually started to notice, okay, it's actually all about that. Your self worth is measured by how connected you are with yourself. How much do you know yourself and understand understand yourself and spend time with yourself? So in this program that I've created, I've really structured it in that kind of way. Like there's enough resources to support people and being able to understand the self awareness, to build the self trust but also take the responsibility to build the accountability, to build the discipline and ultimately have the self love. So if you want to learn more about that, you want to apply for that because application only. I'm not taking everyone. You got to be ready for this kind of commitment. You gotta, you gotta fill out the application form or just send me a DM and I'll send it to you. Otherwise as always, I will be sharing more content like this posting a fair bit on Tick Tock these days. So if you want to check out the old Tick Tock, it's Jordan Challenge one.
