SSP157: EXACTLY How To Upgrade Your Nervous System
14 May 2025 · 13 min
Jordan Candlish explains how nervous system health affects relationships and business success. He covers breathwork, emotional release techniques, and energy management as concrete ways to upgrade your nervous system for better personal outcomes.
Have you noticed how your nervous system is really determining the quality of your relationship with everything? And if you want a better relationship with things like money or your business or your loved ones or men or women, then it really comes back down to the health, how to unfry your nervous system. And if you stay to the end, I'm going to share with you the exact process that I use, the Joe Dispenser technique that I've been able to pull in some of my dreams and realities through rewiring how I react or respond to my nervous system. And it's allowed me to quit my corporate job and travel the world and build a life of my dreams. And. And all of it came through understanding some of these principles. Now, the first principle around your nervous system is that the deeper you can feel, the more that you receive. And this goes contrary to the understanding of what we grew up believing, which, at least for me, I grew up, the harder that I work, the more that I receive, the more that I do, the more that I receive. Now, on one external level, this could be true. Maybe the more that you do in a certain area of your life, you've got results from it. So in your mind you've associated that belief to be true. But I'm sure you've noticed as well that there comes a stage when you're so exhausted that you don't even have the motivation or the inspiration to want to actually enjoy the simple things in life. So the simple things in life, the measurement of how much you can enjoy the simple things in life is really determining how connected you are with this felt sense emotionality of who you are, what it means to be a spiritual being happening, a human experience. And a lot of that comes back to less doing and more being. And what I've learned or discovered in my journey of getting deep into my body and feeling more and thinking less, is that the less that I actually do on an external level, the more rich I become in emotions and energy. And if we're in this game of energy, like Tesla's quote, right, if we wanna understand the secrets of the universe, we must think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration. If we make energy and vibration the highest commodity, we make that our number one priority. Then all of a sudden life morphs or shifts around the frequency that we operate from. And this is difficult initially when you're starting out in this journey, especially if you run a business, it's difficult because your mind is gonna create all these stories about why you don't have time to slow down why you don't have time to regulate yourself, but you may have got to the point many times where you've been so frustrated, so distracted and overstimulated that you're running around with like a ball of anxiety and your interactions feel like more force instead of flow. And really what we're trying to do here is find this path of least resistance. And the way you can find it is through attunement, deep attunement. Now, we have tools and instruments to measure the nervous system, right? We have the ring and the whoop bands and these devices that help us understand our heart rate variability, which is one measure of that, your nervous system health, you know, Another measure of it, like I said, is your ability to just sit and be still, your ability to sense and perceive. And this second principle that I want to share with you is to get to that point where we can feel immense joy and satisfaction and gratitude and actually tap into these feelings of abundance, which, again, are all energies. We have to become sensitive enough to them. And this principle of numbness is something that I've had to overcome many times, and it's one of the key challenges or shadows that I'm here to overcome in this lifetime. Maybe you can relate to that too, is the feeling of, I can't feel fucking anything right now. I'm so burnt out that I can't feel a thing. And then the mind creates all these stories about how I'm not doing enough and I should be doing more and I'm not progressing as fast as I should be. And this creates this shame spiral that can very quickly pull us down. But it's all just coming from the truth, the underlying fact that the nervous system's just burnt out and tired. You have no energy, or I have no energy, I have no energy to create from relating with the numbness. When you go into that experience of, I can't feel anything, I'm stuck, there's no life force in me. How do you respond during those times? Do you default back into reaching, grabbing for things, Coffee, social media, quick hits of stimulation? The dopamine pathway in the brain is directly connected to the nervous system. So the more you're firing dopamine, the more you're firing your nervous system. And in short terms, this is okay because this gives us jolts of energy and enthusiasm and life, but too much of that will deplete us. So examine your relationship with dopamine is one of the ways we can start to re attune our nervous system. Having a dopamine fast Reducing caffeine. For me, caffeine just, I just don't have a good relationship with caffeine. It's really just I love it so much. But when I drink coffee, I end up getting pulled around in too many directions. I end up losing my stability, losing my grounded. And you can measure your stability or grounded by how much you feel your body. If you're in your head thinking too much, remember every thought is in every energy. And if you're thinking about lots of different things, this energy is just leaking all over the place. But when we reduce stimulation in my life, I've noticed when stimulation is less, I can be more centered. When I trade the coffee for a tea, when I trade the sugar for something that's high fat, low carb, when I trade the city for an environment that's more suitable with around nature, all of a sudden I can rest deeper into the being, into the understanding of knowing who I am. I can rest deeper into allowing my nervous system to unravel and unwind itself. So notice that a lot of this requires a slowing down to speed up, you could say then the other principle around the nervous system that is important to understand is that we need to release emotions. We need to express emotions that are disrupting or dysregulating the body's ability to function. Now for a couple of years I worked in Toronto when I started out on this journey back in 2017. And I worked at healing studio in downtown Toronto called Soul7. And it was after I'd quit my corporate job, I left an accounting job in Perth, Western Australia. And I wanted to pursue this path of health and wellness. I wanted to work in that space. And I worked at this healing clinic that used pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. And the main purpose of this clinic was to support people and be able to use non invasive approaches to realign the body so the body could heal itself from things like cancer and different kind of illnesses people were coming in with. I developed this understanding that the body actually has this innate ability to heal. The body can do so many miraculous things when we just get out of the way and let it do its thing. But we get in the way by holding onto suppressed energies which are emotions. We suppress these energies, be it grief and anger and shame and guilt, sadness, anxiety. We allow these things to get stored and trapped and all of a sudden this creates disharmony in the system. The solar plexus being one of the core areas where we hold onto shame and anxiety and we resist it because we're never given the tools and Support, to actually go into it, to embrace it, to accept it and to allow it. So to re regulate the nervous system. It's a great practice to use things like breath work, to use things like an anger release practice in your life. And I'll link in the description below. An anger release and a breathwork practice that I like to use so you can try it out for yourself. And in doing that, you're going to start to understand what it means or how you know when you've got suppressed emotions. Suppressed emotions, the body will give you signs. Tension, contraction, holding, shakiness, irritability. All of these things are subtle signs. The cues almost call them somatic cues that the body will give you. The more you can sensitize yourself to these somatic cues, you can go, ah, I'm holding on to some fear right now. At the core of the instability or disharmony is fear. Fear around something. Fear that I'm not going to have, have enough, fear that I'm gonna run out of time, fear that I'm not progressing, fear that I'm gonna let people down. So examine these stories and beliefs that are wrapped around the emotions, right? Because the shame, the core of a lot of the pain that we experience as men and women is shame, right? This shame of wanting to hide, it's a contraction reading in the solar plexus, at least for me. Wanting to hide, not wanting to show up, wanting to play small, not wanting to be seen. And there's that belief or story that's on top of the shame that says, ah, I'm not doing enough, I'm not worthy. And this comes from childhood, right? Childhood programming. So much of this unraveling or reconnecting process is noticing these mechanisms in these stories by connecting with the energy and actually slowing down and stopping and interrupting the pattern and going, hey, let me be with this for a moment. Where is this fear coming from? What does this fear need? What needs to be expressed? What needs to move? Maybe I just need to sit with it. Maybe I need to allow it. Maybe I just need to surrender into it and notice the compulsion and want to keep doing. Notice the compulsion to want to solve the problem or fix the problem, but just know that the way out is the way through. There's nothing to fix, there's nowhere to get to. And then just relaxing into the knowing that you are safe, you're whole, you're infinitely and unconditionally loved and connecting with the intelligence that beats your heart, that changes and moves the sun, that moves the clouds. That intelligence is Moving through you and that intelligence. In my belief system, if you believe in God or a higher power, then I believe that intelligence is love. And I believe that that loving intelligence is unconditional. It's always available, it's always loving. So a process for unraveling, connecting back with your faith. And if you were unconditionally loved, what would you do right now? Would you be pulling out social media and scrolling you ask your body, if my body was unconditionally loved right now, what would I be doing? And for so many of us, maybe it's just I want to fucking lie down, I want to relax, I want to go for a walk on the beach. I want to just sit with my friends and have a laugh for a moment. And this pressure that we put on ourselves, we don't have time to do that because we've got progress to be made or things to do. Well, that's coming from a place of fear. So examine all of the activities and things that you do that come from fear and not alignment. And we must interrupt that if we're going to bring this nervous system back online. Now, the nervous system, the next principle, principle that will help bring the nervous system back online is nature. You know, nature is just this natural frequency that we all operate, have come from and we all are able to return to when we just give ourselves permission to immerse in. It could be a walk on the beach, could be sitting in a park, could be looking at a tree. If you're in an urban environment, it's going to take you a bit longer to unravel because there's still, you know, this, this web of energy around. The more people you're around, the harder it is going to be to unravel. But if you can get into a quiet place or you're willing to sit for long enough, then there's nothing you need to do. Nature will do its own thing on your body and nervous system. It's just a matter of sitting and watching and waiting. Patience, such a hard thing, right? For us business owners, we just don't have the patience sometimes to sit and allow nature to bring us back to us. But in your relationships, you'll find that your ability to connect emotionally with someone, your ability to really see and feel them, your ability to support them, to guide them, comes back down to how connected you are with yourself. How much can you feel of yourself? And the more you've been avoiding yourself, then the harder it's going to be to actually receive love from the people that you care about. Let alone give love. And so many of us think we're giving love. A lot of the high performing men that I've coached in the past, they think they're giving love by providing financially for their partners. When reality, their partner just wants to receive their presence fully, their partner just wants to feel their eyes gazing into their soul with vibration, with vitality, with depth. And sometimes providing emotionally for your partner, actually most of the time providing emotionally for your partner should be number one. Because if you're not connected with someone on an emotional level, then that relationship isn't going to last very long. So by making your nervous system health a priority, you're going to have much deeper, deeper and more fulfilling relationships and then you're actually going to be able to give and receive way more. And I'm sure you've noticed this already, but how you operate in business, how you interact in business is all relationships. You increase your energetic capacity, then you're in a higher frequency to attract more aligned relationships that then allow you to receive new information to support the mission that you're on. You see, I just believe that we just need to go up in energy. As we go up in energy, this information becomes available and then we just be the conduit, we just transmit that information into the world through what we put out. Like right now I'm just allowing information to flow through and I just get out of the way. And I trust this information becomes valuable to the person you who is receiving it. And in business it's the same thing. You're just transmitting information. What determines the quality of that information, quality of your nervous system and the quality of the receptivity of your heart. The heart won't open if your energy is low, if your nervous system is fried. Why? Because it's not safe. You go into conservation mode. You go into survival mode when you're exhausted because the body needs to rest for you to receive. If you ignore that, your heart stays closed and you're in scarcity, lack and fear and doubt. Things feel like a struggle. Now I want to share with you the Joe Dispenser technique that I'm referring to here that allowed me to really understand this and tap into and use this to create over a million dollars in revenue. In my business, it's allowed me to travel the world and attract amazing friendships and people into my life and sustain a long term relationship with someone that I love deeply, my partner, Amanda. Our relationship only gets stronger. And it's the understanding that when I got clear on what I want to feel on A day to day basis. The wholeness, the gratitude, the abundance, the love, the freedom, the peace, the calmness, the enthusiasm. When I got clear that's what I wanted to feel and that my future that I desired already existed. It already existed. Right now there's nowhere I needed to get to to have that future. And I had this future that I wanted to travel and make lots of money and do all these things, external things, but that what I really wanted underneath was to feel all these things. And when I declared that feelings are going to be more important than external goals, then every single day I made energetic investments in myself to fill my energy, energetic cup. So then my frequency went up. And I did this through meditation, I did this through breath work, I did this through getting out in nature, some of the things I shared with you already. And when this cop starts to fill and you get access to new energy, you become a new person. And in my case, I started to operate differently. I started to create content differently, I started to get new ideas and inspiration, intuitive polls on where to go and what to do. And that's when things started to change. And anytime I got tempted to go back into this old self, this old me that was trying to change circumstances, I would just come back to, you know, like, let me just change my energy. So when you shift your energy, you shift into a new reality. So my invitation to you is use this principle of make your energy more important than your circumstances. Make your energy more important than your environment or the people you're with or the thing that you do change the quality that you bring into all these things and the things that are around you will start to change. This is Wayne Dyer's quote. When you change the way you look at things, the things that you look at start to change. So this principle also comes back to the nervous system because it sounds great in theory, tapping into gratitude, love, joy and wholeness and abundance. But when you close your eyes, do you feel it? If you can't, your nervous system is not available to it. And you need to go through some of the suggestions I just made earlier. Slow down, remove the stimulation, express what needs to be expressed on an emotional level, and then allow your heart to naturally open and then tune into the life force that's all around you. And I guide men through processes in my men's group where we show them how to do this, we give them the tools and the accountability and the support to actually speed this up. If you're interested in getting that additional support, click the link in the description because you'll learn more about the men's group through there. That's all for this video. Hope you enjoyed it. Leave a comment below. I'd love to hear from you. And we'll see you in the next one. Peace.
