Meditation Stories with Amber Dawn. Kundalini experience.

In this episode of the Meditation Stories series, host Joy D. Fanning interviews Amber Dawn, a mother of three and former daycare owner, about her personal meditation journey. Amber describes how working with children led her to value silence, how reading The Secret sparked a deeper curiosity about the mind, and how she spent years cultivating an "observer mode" that lets her watch thoughts without judgment. She recounts a powerful spring‑2021 Kundalini (or vagus‑nerve) surge that lasted for hours, gave her a bird‑s eye perspective, and left a lasting sense of alignment. After the experience, Amber integrated the energy into her life through practical mindfulness—using chores, music, travel, and parenting moments as meditation opportunities—while also noticing synchronicities such as a recurring $22,266.66 number. She shares beginner advice: recognize that short, judgment‑free moments already count, practice non‑judgment, and use visualization techniques like "zipping up" the central meridian for energetic protection. The conversation also touches on the role of pets (especially cats) in reminding her to pause, and on inner‑child work that helped her move from a "people‑pleaser" mindset into a state of flow. The interview is conversational, supportive, and enthusiastic, offering concrete practices and personal anecdotes for listeners interested in integrating meditation into a busy life.

Hello. My name is Joy D. Fanning, an astronaut of life, and I help people go inward to explore. This video is part of a series called Meditation Stories where you might hear me share some of my own stories, but the main part is to share other people's experiences because there are so many ways to meditate and so many things that come to us when we meditate. So without further ado, Here's the video.
Hey Amber! Hi, how are you?
I'm so glad. I'm great. I'm so glad to have you here today. Thank you for joining me.
Oh, thank you for having me. I always wanted to talk about this but never had the opportunity.
Well, I'm so like blessed that you've chosen my platform to, to share your story with everybody today. So to get us started, Amber, can you just tell me a little bit about yourself?
Okay, I'm just your average person. I'm a mom, I got 3 kids. I'm kind of doing life on my own and I ran a daycare for 6 years, my own day home, and then I'm off working now. But yeah, it's, it's been fun working with kids and having that time to play with my inner child almost.
Oh, I love that. Yeah, I've worked at a daycare before. I think I just did it for like 2 years, like it was way back in the past. Only how long? Maybe 2 or 3, but that's intense. And then 6 years. Wow. How many?
Well, my, my kids were in elementary school, so So I did that to be home with them. Yeah. And it actually gave me a lot of time to work on myself. And, and that's kind of what brought me to meditation too.
Oh, that's awesome. Yeah. And I liked how you said it helps bring out your inner child because it totally does. When you're playing with kids all day, you're like, I'm excited about this Lego tower. Like, what are you talking about? Here we go, right?
Yeah, basically I spent many a day just— my work was playing in the park with kids, you know, every chance that we could get. It was just outside at the park. We all had run around and have fun. That's something to do that when you're— I'm in my 30s, so to do that at this age and just really reconnect with myself, that's beautiful.
That is so beautiful. So obviously, yeah, we're here to talk about meditation, and you mentioned it a little bit. How did you get started into meditation?
Okay, well, I've always been like a spiritual person, and I always knew that was a tool I could use, um, but it really wasn't until I started working with the kids that I really truly appreciated— once everybody was gone and my kids were in bed, I could sit down and I just I would sit in the silence. I wouldn't go and watch TV or any of that. I would just sit there and I would absorb the silence, and that's where I really got started.
Oh yes, the silence.
Yes, silence is golden.
Well, especially around kids all day. I mean, I spent one year teaching in a school which was here in Colombia, and like I did not value silence. It— I valued silence on a whole new level after that job because I love children to death. I don't have my own, but like, I love working with children. They're like, who's loud? Like, next level loud. Oh yeah, crazy, crazy fun energy. But yeah, it just was almost like my brain can't handle it anymore. Like It's like I just need a break from noise. Yeah, and silence. Yeah, absolutely.
And then I'm also, like I said, I've always been spiritual. So in about 2015, I went and read the book The Secret, and of course that mind blew me. I'm like, what? And it just opened up all new levels, and that's when I really knew that I really needed to kind of work with my mind and work on really watching what's going on in my mind, which I feel is a lot about meditation is too, is to really observe yourself and be able to, you know, correct anything that might be going on. We don't— when we don't watch our thoughts, we don't know what they're thinking half the time.
Oh, that is some deep stuff, Amber. You are so on that. Mm, preaching. I love that because, well, it changed. That's like next level for me when you— yeah, you meditate, but then when you realize you can like shift into this observer mode, suddenly like, wait a minute, I'm not those thoughts. That's not me. This observer thing is me, right? Like it changes your whole perspective of how you interact with your own mind. At least that's my experience. Sounds like it was yours too, right?
Oh yes, absolutely.
Yeah. So how long did it— how long were you— let me figure out how I want to write this. How long did you meditate for? Not like time-wise, but like, was it a few months before you were able to get into this observer mode, or did it take Oh boy, it, it probably took a couple years if I'm honest with you, because obviously distracted with life and everything else.
So I basked in the silence for a while, a couple years on that one. And then, um, yeah, just more I took in about spirituality and learning all the things I wanted to learn, the more I kind of shifted. And I had to learn that meditation wasn't just about going and sitting in and trying to focus on something. But it was so much more than that. And it can be so much more than that for everybody. People get hung up on the thoughts keep coming instead of maybe you're supposed to be watching your thoughts. And that's kind of what triggered it for me. I'm like, just stop focusing on the fact that you're not meditating and start watching what your mind is doing. And that's how I shifted into that observer mode.
I like that. Yeah, no, it took me like at least a year, if not more. It takes a bit to almost train yourself to, to do that, but then once you do, like I said, yeah, it's a whole nother level. Have you— can you tell us about an experience you've had while meditating that has really stayed with you?
Well, I'll, I'll tell you about this spring. In the spring of 2021, I had always been saying I need a week off with no, no kids, no having to cook dinner, no worries, no nothing. And I got it. I got it in the spring. Yes, it was absolutely amazing. So what I did is I'm calling it intuitive living. I intuitively lived for about 9 days. And a lot of that time I spent doing inner child healing, generational healing, all these meditations to really focus on myself. I worked with my chakras daily. I cleared the mind. I used music and sound and color therapy. I went to town. I did everything I could. I was having my own little mini retreat in my house and I just shut myself off and nope. World be gone. I'm just doing me. And I, I don't even know exactly what to call it. But over the Easter weekend, I— the energy was so intense within me that I had my Kundalini or the vagus nerve aligned. You can see it both ways. And, and the energy that just surged through me was— I will never forget it. It was incredible. I felt like I completely aligned with everything. And for quite a while after that, I was viewing life and everything from that bird's eye view, from that universal height. And all I wanted to do was have everybody experience it. Everybody needs to. But you know what? If I'm honest, if there's people who experience it that aren't ready, they're going to think they're dying. That's what's going to happen. But it was incredible. And I mean, it lasted hours and hours, just the energy surging through me. And it probably took me realistically about 3 days just to come down to be able to actually function and to be able to— okay, kids, you can come back home now.
I was going to ask because, like, if you were in an intense energy for that long, surely it's going to take a bit to kind of incorporate it all, right?
It did take a long time. And then of course I'm like, okay, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this, I'm going to do this. Like, I had so many ideas going on. I had so many, like, potentials. I saw so many potentials from that universal level that I'm like, I'm going everywhere. I needed to bring that back down. Um, one of the the most profound things that happened after this, when we had to go back to school and back to work and stuff like that. At the time, I was working lunchroom supervision at my children's school. And when I walked in the doors— and keep in mind, these people have known me for years, including the kids— I walked in the doors, everybody could see that I was changed. Everybody. I, I want to take a camera over there and kind of do an interview, like, tell them about me. But, you know, can't do that. Anyway, everybody could see I was changed. And when I walked into the classroom that I was going to be supervising that day, I actually— the entire class interrupted the teacher and gave me a round of applause. And that's because I wasn't with them the month before. So they really wanted me back. I'm the kids love me. But I got a round of applause. And I feel that that like it happened in part because I came into alignment.
That is awesome.
Just talking about it, I'm getting a high again. Yeah, right back in the experience. It was, it was amazing.
I feel like that clapping was like, like your guides prompting those children to just be like, okay, let's, let's use these beautiful children to give Amber a pat on the back because she did exactly what we wanted. Oh wow, that is awesome. So how do you— so that was in the spring. Now that, that's not quite a year past, but like, how have you incorporated this new energy in your life now?
Oh, I'm very balanced, to be honest with you. I, and I think that's what it was all about is coming into a balance within yourself. I was faced in the spring, I was faced with the fact that my business wasn't recuperating from, you know, what's going on in the world. And I didn't know what I was going to do. That experience in the spring told me I was going to be absolutely fine. Everything was going to be fine. I knew coming out of there everything was going to align beautifully for me. And I will be absolutely honest, it has. It has flowed. My life has flowed in a way that it would take way too long to explain right now. But I landed a— what I was calling for from the universe was stability and security, whatever that looked like. When I manifest, it's from a place of generalized, and I ended up with a— getting a job that pays extremely well, and it's something I know, so I can, I can support my family and I can not worry about that. And the people there are amazing, and it's literally something that I can go to, to retirement if I want to. Like, like it's that type of place where people just, when they get you, they get you and you don't leave. Um, because they really support their employees and they're very family oriented. So I'm really proud of that. Um, but yeah, just everything's something as silly as numeral. I like my numbers. And the other day I was working on, I do payables, so I was doing calculations. and there was something wrong on a sheet that I had to change. And when I was done my final calculations, the number came out to $22,266.66. I literally took a picture on my phone. I was like, are you kidding me right now? So all just all these synchronicities are happening for me. And with the meditation, I daily Daily, I'm doing something, but it's not like I'm sitting down for an hour and, okay, clear everything out. No, I do my meditation in what I do every day. I can do it in dishes, or I can do it in listening to music and falling into music while I'm traveling and stuff, or I do it when I'm playing with my kids. I get into this zone of this is what I'm focusing on right now and nothing else. And I see every opportunity that I can for meditation as a meditation. Instead of, oh, I gotta make time for this, it's incorporated into my time.
Oh, that's a beautiful point because I think so many of us don't really have like hours where we're like, okay, I'm gonna go into monk mode and just, you know, connect and whatever. And it's— you gotta be practical, right? Like, I love that, like that mindfulness of, yeah, I'm doing the dishes, I'm doing this mundane task, but my hands and my body might be washing the dishes, but my mind is, is traveling and, you know, opening. That is such a good point. Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up because most people have busy lives and I suffer from anxiety, so if I don't like set that time aside or even view the laundry time or the dishes time as like time I can also utilize for meditation or just mindfulness, I get frustrated, right? And anxious because it's like, I need to just take 10 minutes to do this, but now I feel overwhelmed, so I'm not going to do it. Yeah, I think we've all been there.
Oh, yes. That's something I learned from this year too, just because there's so much going on and we're here to do the going-ons, you know, that's what we're here to experience. So we really have to learn how to incorporate the, the spiritual or the, the, the self-love side of things as well as the responsibilities and the fun.
Yeah. When your energy is so beautiful and uplifting. So I can tell, like, whatever that event that happened on that week in the spring, you've stayed in it and carried it. How beautiful.
Now, try—
what do you think if we were gonna give advice to, like, a new person trying, or a person trying to meditate, what do you think is, like, the hardest part when you're starting out?
Realizing that you already do it a lot. If you can get over the fact that it's not something that you have to really give a ton of focus to, and you can just find those little moments to just, you know, have that release breath and just my mind is clear, even if it's just for 2 seconds, you're good. You're good. Do that multiple times a day, even better. It doesn't have to be a big production. And don't judge the thoughts you have.
Oh, that's great advice, Amber. Yeah. Well, I think just taking those, even if it's like 5 seconds or 10 seconds to just stop and be like, okay, if I keep going, I'm gonna get overwhelmed. Let's just breathe for a second. Okay, I'm just gonna be in this moment. I'm just gonna be calm. Even if it's just for a few breaths and just kind of let your energy shift, right? Like it's, I think especially as Americans, we're also go, go, go, go, go, get her done, get her done. I've learned that living outside of the United States, that that's very much in our culture. And not everybody in the world does this. So I think as an American myself, like, it's been a big lesson to take those moments and realize, you know what, it's all right for me to take this 10 seconds for myself. Like, my gosh, how— it's totally fine, right?
Like, absolutely.
Yeah. And people need that. Yeah, I think so too, especially Americans. And then your other one too, I'm trying to remember, like, yeah, pay attention to your thoughts, right?
Like, and don't judge your thoughts.
Oh, that's it. That was like, there was something juicier in there, I think. Yeah, don't judge your thoughts.
Oh yeah, when you are trying to focus on quieting the mind, that's when your subconscious is going to come into play and it's going to start throwing things at you in ways that you might think is not great, or you might find yourself thinking about something that you're like, what the heck am I doing thinking about this? It's trying to tell you something, even if it is just acknowledge me and then let me go.
Oh yes, oh I love it. Like even symbology, right? Like Maybe you're thinking about food and, and maybe it's trying to tell you to adjust your diet. Where, like, oh, well, it could be so many things. Like, or if you're daydreaming about some person, it's like maybe this is a connection you need to make or sever or whatever, right? Like, yes, I love that because I feel like, yeah, I feel like our higher self uses our subconscious to talk to us, and most of us just go around not listening or not even really—
yeah, don't even acknowledge it.
Yeah, there's messages all the time, but it's like, yeah, so they're right there. Like, that's how you listen, right? It's just to get in that observer mode and then see, wow, okay, I have a lot of thoughts about my work, I guess. I really need to organize my workspace better or my time better because I'm seeing a lot of thoughts about worry about this or something like, yeah.
One of the things I would love if people got into the habit of doing is recognizing the housework and the state of your house as a reflection of what's going on with you. If you're someone who, you know, a hoarder, a hoarder needs counseling. I'm just gonna put it that way. They need professional counseling type thing. As seen, you see it everywhere. Like it's fact actually. And when you are cleaning, instead of seeing it as, oh my God, I'm doing this task or this chore, it's yes. I get this chance to really clean this and have it, you know, imagine cleaning a section of dusty cobweb part in your mind somewhere that hasn't been looked at lately, right? That's the way I do it anyway.
I love that. Yeah, I wrote a meditation a few months ago called Cleaning Your Inner House, and it literally is a visualization of that. That is so cool. Yeah, where you like mow the yard, then you go inside and dust everything. And I've done it several times, and each time, like, no, my house needs so much work still. It's a daily thing. And you're right, as we clean our physical house, I mean, while you're doing that, you're like, okay, I'm dusting off these— the couch in my mind, I'm dusting off whatever. Yeah, that's so cool that you said that because, yeah, I wrote that meditation because, no, you do have to dust off the inside. You've got to clean it too, right? Like, absolutely. And you can do it, you can do that meditation I mentioned, or like your chakras is a good way to clean your energy. And it doesn't— I think a lot of— I myself, I used to think like there had to be some big ritual to it or some big like ceremony type thing, and then now it's like Nah.
Yeah, I hear that.
Well, nothing wrong with grand ceremonies or rituals, and when the time is right, I totally do them and stuff, right? But it's not practical, and it's just— it's really not always needed. Like, if you need to work on your chakras, or you can just take 5 seconds on each one. What, that's less than a minute? I'm probably better at math than me, but you know, I'm like, in those few minutes, like 1 minute, and then wow, you've adjusted your energy. And you can do it while you're cleaning, while anything. Yes, this is awesome, Amber.
Yeah, I love the synchronicity there.
I know, right? That is so cool.
Yeah. And if you want, if you want a little tip, and I got this from Donna Eden, she's an energy medicine practitioner. If you're walking into a space that you know is going to be difficult to walk into, you know, the other people around or whatever situation's going on that's hard, put yourself into a good frame of mind before entering and envision zipping up your central meridian line, energy line, and like locking it at around the jawline. And you do that a couple of times. And I've actually given this advice to a couple of my friends who have done it, and now they swear by it. They're like, I don't know what it is that I'm doing, but it's working. I'm able to maintain my inner peace. And so that's another one of those things that I want to pass along, is just envision the energy and lock it in place, the energy you want to hold instead of absorbing what's going on around you.
I like that because a lot of times you hear about putting protection around you or something, which I'm not saying there's anything wrong with, but this is almost like an inner protection of like keeping that energy, yeah, and locking it versus like, nobody can get me, no bad vibes.
It's a very different vibe. Yeah, they're two different vibes. And the zipping up, it really works well.
It feels more— it feels a higher vibe to me than, than like putting yourself in it.
I love that you said that. I love that you said that.
Thank you. To me, yeah, to me it does. And I haven't even tried it yet, but like just talking about it and hearing, it's like No, you're like holding yourself at that high vibe, which before, I don't know, I guess the protection thing, it's kind of barring yourself off.
Yeah, instead of, no, I'm still here, I'm internally good, you know.
It's more like I'm standing in my light, and if you want to project darkness, that's on you, but this space is light. And if you want to be in it, fine. You want to be out, fine. It's up to you.
In saying that, I still tell my children that if they're becoming overwhelmed to put up their bubble, to envision the bubble, nothing in, nothing out. So that is a very good practice as well.
Yeah, yeah. I'm not saying it's bad either. I'm just saying like, I haven't heard this one you mentioned and it just, it feels a little, yeah, a little bit higher in vibe is like of a— to me it's the same thing, right? But it's just a different way of doing it.
That, that's my cats are going nuts. Sorry if you can hear them.
No, we're in luck. Mine aren't, aren't in here. They're sleeping in another room today. But do your cats ever meditate with you, like, or sit with you?
Oh my goodness, when life's getting busy, it's my cats who remind me to stop. They want me to stop. They want to sit on my lap. They want to fight over who's sitting on my lap. And they want me to pet them. And I, I've had them for about 5 years. They're, they're turning 6 in September. So that's still a ways away. And I appreciate them so much. I'm so grateful because there's a lot of times where I wouldn't have stopped and relaxed for myself if it wasn't for them. Saying, hey Mom, I'm not gonna let you— I'm not gonna stop bugging you unless you do sit down. Oh, so yes, you meditate with me.
Yeah, I, I like that they do that. My cats do that too. I have one, his name's Kubrick, or I call him QB. Like, I'll be working and like in my zone, and then I'll just feel this little paw. Yeah. And I'll— I won't lie, I'll get a little annoyed because I'm like, dude, I'm in my zone, like, just give me a minute here. And he just is like, hey, but I want attention. So yeah, I'll have to stop and I hold him and he starts purring, and then we spend a few minutes, and then it's totally changed my energy without even realizing it. Like, I was all frustrated at him, I'm like, oh fine, I'll give you a hug. And then I'm like, it just softens you.
Absolutely.
They know.
My two are named Leo and Loki. Oh, and they're actual brothers from the same litter, and they're huge. They're like 20-pound cats. Oh yeah, it gets hot when you're sitting— when they're sitting on me.
Mine are 6 kilos. I don't know what that is in pounds.
About 12. Okay, 13 maybe, something like that.
Yeah, they're— well, I have a girl and a boy that are brother and sister, but the girl feels fatter, but apparently they're the same.
You know what, more, more space for the purring, and that helps with the vibration.
Yeah, yeah, she's— you can— you don't even need to touch her to know she's purring. Like, you can hear it. Oh yeah, and then the boy, you literally have to touch his throat to even know. Like, oh, he's a real quiet purr.
Yeah, I recommend animals to anybody.
Yes, anybody who wants them, especially cats, for meditation. I don't know why, but they, they really— they sense the energy and they seem to just help and And yeah, sometimes know better than us, right? Like when to take a break.
Yeah, I, I don't remember where I heard it. I heard it somewhere and it was cats are the key. And basically meaning they stop, they sleep, they purr when they're happy. They're very intuitive. They're very just live by whatever. And they're so peaceful and just loving most of the time.
Yeah, most of the time it's true. But yeah, they're in the flow. They're a constant reminder of just being in that flow, right? And I would say it sounds like you're in the flow now too, Amber, which is so cool. Yay!
Oh yes, no, it's, it's been wonderful. And I, you know, especially with me working with my inner child, I come from a background of people. I was trained to be a people pleaser. You know, I call myself a recovering people pleaser. And meditation and just my spirituality— my spirituality, speak Amber— it has brought me to this place of just really loving myself, really knowing. I am in my knowing. That is where I am. I am in my knowing and that is where the flow is.
I love it, I love it, I love it. Well, because I'm there too, and it's, it's just a beautiful way of living. And I don't even get mad at past me for not figuring it out, because it's like, you know what, they got me on the journey to where I am now, and now I get to be the rest of my life, you know, being in the flow. And that's quite the gift, right? Pretty awesome. Amber, thank you so much for, for talking and sharing with us today.
I'm very happy to be here, and I'm grateful for you for doing this and, and having your show to be on.
Well, thank you. Yes, yes, thank you so much.
