After the main conference, we're now in Milan to show you the interior design highlights during Milan Design Week, and I will show a little surprise at the end, so stay tuned. Today we have Anna with us. Anna and I and Adi, we know each other from 12 years now. We met in Milan actually for the first time. Anna, come! This is Anna. Hi!
Hi!
Welcome to Milan Design Week. This is so delicate, this fabric right here, right? Oh, look at this, Anna! This is interesting. This is like embossed. Yeah, cases too. Is this a rug?
Rug.
Look at this, the detailing on this one. I love this. I even like the way it feels, the velvet, right? Oh, this would be a nice like— this is nice. Yeah, right, nice drapery, or even like, you know, throw on top of your sofa or just at the edge of the bed. It's really nice. I like the way it feels.
We started as a kimono fabric maker, so we don't make whole kimono, we just make the kimono belt part now. Yeah, we just want to show people that traditional Japanese culture with the— yeah, so we try not to use as much machine.
Yeah.
We're trying to focus on more handmade, so it takes the time, but the quality is the best. So the idea is to not designing a lamp, but a sculpture that can be adapted to every single plane in the world. This way, vertical, horizontal, reverse ceiling mounting, Next to a chair because the height is 50 cm. When you sit right here, rotate it, read a book.
But it's beautiful. I like how they're moving the floor. The transition of this video is so smooth. Yeah, now we're into modern world. This is exactly how today's fireplaces are, the big Italian marble, right, slab on top. So beautiful. My excitement was off the charts. I couldn't stop touching everything and asking questions about all the unique creations from from around the world. There was so much to explore with countless creative minds gathered under one roof. It's a very green dining table, the green base and green marble on top. Floral. I like floral. Wow. Oh, very cool. I like how it could become like a bench if you put it together, but still someone can't sit in the middle. But it's a really cool take. I can smell the freshness of the wood still. It's so nice. Oh, this is so good. This is perfect for short people. I'm short. It was the perfect height that I need to work on a desk. I mean, you should sit according to your height anyway, and this is perfect. Love it. I want to take this home. Oh, look at this. It also, like, from far away kind of looks like Egyptian. That's nice. Oh, it's just £85. Welcome to Mirko Cathay. It's an antique rug place, and I was wandering the street of Milan, and as I was walking by, it caught my attention, and it's very beautiful. Let's check out some very beautiful antique rugs made in China, in the Middle East, and let's go. So let's talk about this one. This guy is from the 19th century. It has the uses of the most beautiful natural color. I was talking to the saleperson and he— and she said that the use of green is very diff— uh, difficult from that time. So it's a very special rug, absolutely stunning, with all the beautiful color blocking on it. And then This guy right here is also from the 19th century, beautiful Chinese rug. Here we have a beautiful, um, rug from Borsulu, Turkey. It's, um, handmade, so it's— every single strand is hand-knotted. So if you go back in time, they used to have smaller equipment to make these rugs, and so the size is very special. From that time and the color, the design. So like, they had no design to work with. So anything that they were making, they were using their imagination. So, I mean, that's a wonderful creative mind to make something so beautiful without having any type of design inspiration and you're just making things out of your mind. I just wonder how creative these women were. I'm a bit emotional. Because I'm an interior designer. A bit emotional because, wow, 16th century and I get to touch it. And wow, I'm sorry, what's the place again? Place? Uh-huh. Isfahan in Persia. This is where this was made. Um, I'm kind of choking because I am very emotional. Oh my God, 16th century, guys. Um, so beautiful. So you find something like this in museums, obviously, and Again, look at the use of colors. Like, we've been using colors for many centuries, maybe ever since this earth was invented. I mean, I love using colors in my design, and this is absolutely stunning. It's probably one of my favorite piece in the showroom. It's again a masterpiece. It's a work of art. I know it could be complicated, but let's not take life so seriously. It's not as complicated. We make it that way. Just live the life. Live the moment because life is like this, up and down, and we just don't have control over it. So just live it, live the moment, live every day, and everything will be okay. Sunshine towards the end of the day, and stay happy. The beautiful statue of Leonardo da Vinci. Um, I remember last time there was a pigeon on top of his head that wouldn't move, and I tried to capture every moment I could of that, and it was just so Silly, he just kept sitting on top of his head, different position and styling for me. Milan is one of my favorite cities. Milan Cathedral is one of my favorite places here. I decided to visit after the crowds had left to quietly observe its architectural beauty and the delicate metalwork on the front doors. Tradition is to to spin on the bull's testicle 3 times to bring you luck. Let's see if this bull brings me luck. 1, 2, and then 1 more, 3. Ta-da! It's pretty nice. I like this city a lot. I think, um, Anyone should come here, but especially if you love fashion design, this is it. This is a city to be in, especially during Design Week. I mean, there's so much inspiration in every corner in the city. It's unbelievable. And it's like the world is here. Something Anna said, I'm like, why is this so crazy right now? She's like, the world is here. It's absolutely true. The world is here at the moment, and it's so diverse at the moment that just realizing People say music brings us together. Well, even design brings us together from every corner of the world. Hi guys, so Milan has few design districts, so we are in the Brera interior design district today. So let's go check out some of the unique stores that they have here. Follow me. Walking around and found this stunning café. One thing I absolutely love about Europe is how they never neglect the fifth wall. Look at this beautiful ceiling.
If it's you see is work, is work also, and it's very fragile.
I can tell.
And for example, there is this that is my painting. Yeah. And there is always a constellation, but this constellation is also a human figure, like a sculpture.
Like in the middle?
Yeah, yeah.
This is marble?
Yeah.
So you took the whole marble and it just created these?
Yeah. Oh yeah, the marble, this marble is from Morocco, Morocco, and it's called, uh, Sahra Noir. And, uh, I was very lucky because when I sculpt the piece, the interior piece I discover this because you don't know what happened when I start.
Yes. What is this?
Pozzoli is the artist. The life.
The life.
The woman.
Got it. That's why there's a— I see the hole.
The light.
The light. Okay. Aluminum.
Look this, look, look here. Oh wow, different artists, different style.
Yes, all very unique. There's the artist of that artwork behind us. Mius Panau has steered it a lot. I hope I did a good job, but I was walking along these streets and I peeked through the window and they have some really fabulous pottery inside.
So what you see around, this is our ceramic. We produce it by us, every bowl. So it's all handmade. But we also design cutlery, we design glasses, we design incense. Nice.
It's kind of like the welcoming hands are like, here you go, would you like some fruits? So found another beautiful— just something about floral that I really like. Beautiful picture. And then look at this plate right here, so royal. So beautiful. This Right here, kind of like the Beauty and the Beast theme. This is so cool. Welcome to this stunning lighting exhibition by Tom Dixon. In interior design, lighting is one of the key elements when designing a room. As an interior designer, I believe beautiful light fixtures and grand chandeliers are like dancing art pieces on your ceiling. So this boutique hotel, used to be a home, and this building is from the 18th century. So as you can see, the roof is original, and I love that they have kept that. And if you see this column right here, this big concrete— it's exposed to the wooden ceiling— is really nice. Now here comes the surprise. Bergamo, less than an hour from Milan, is a beautiful city. Its timeless streets transport you to another era as you roam around, and hidden design inspirations await around every corner. Look at this beautiful painting. Is that what with the brilliant wood carvings surrounding. It's part of the altar. There's some beautiful tapestry work too, viknis, all around the church. I'm gonna go a little bit closer. Anywhere my eyes lift up or down, I can't stop saying wow. It's a stunner. Again, beautiful tapestry. It's absolutely stunning. Everyone got to come here. Now imagine if we all had entrance door like that to our homes. Wouldn't that be stunning? When I get to places like these, I realize how much I love traveling and how much inspiration it brings me. To all architect or the uses of color. Stunning floors. I mean, these will never go out of style. This is timeless. Look at the details. These candle holders, absolutely stunning. Oh, more wood carving and the artwork inside. This place is like an ancient museum itself, you know. It's so beautifully preserved. Like, I honestly feel like this was built not too long ago. They have preserved it so well. They're taking care of it. It's beautiful. Usually around the altar we have these seatings, and in most countries in Europe there are morning and evening prayers where guests are allowed, so you can be part of it and you can sit here. And be part of the beautiful ceremony. I'm a big fan of wood, different types of wood, and everything is just so stunning here. Look at this and all the wood carving around. Oh man, this is so So nice. Am I allowed to touch it? So soft to the touch. Holy wow, it is absolutely stunning. The level of details everywhere. This is part of the bench seating. This is all handmade a long, long time ago. The level of detail that's everywhere. I'm going to go a little bit closer, look inside this beautiful archway. That's Stunning, beautiful metal work on the banister. Look at that detail, detail, detail. This banister is stunning. Look at that. I love the flooring. The placement. Basically, it's almost like a hexagon. So this way it's like a vertical effect, and then if you turn this way, it's like a 3D. How cool is that? More beautiful flooring. This is my view at the moment. Reminds me of the Tuscany countryside. God, I gotta love all the countryside of every country. 10 days of Milan Design Week have come to an end. Italy was wonderful, and I am grateful for my time and experiences here. Whenever you travel to a city, always explore surrounding cities. You never know what wonderful surprises you'll come across. For me, it was Bergamo. So it's our last night in Italy. Heading to Paris tomorrow. It was more fun in the Design District. The exhibitions and all of that was really fun. It was very beautiful.
