Kevin Surace argues that joy and success are linked, and that we should approach each daily task as a moment of joy. Our brains evolved to focus on threats and complaints, a survival habit that persists even though modern predators are gone. He says the fix is simple: find what's joyful in every item on your to-do list.

That joy and success are tied together, and you need to approach every task during the day as a moment of joy. Now, as humans, we don't typically do that. In fact, we look at everything as, oh, I'm thirsty, oh, my knees hurt, oh, this sucks, oh, I got to do another podcast, all right, whatever, right? And we do that naturally as humans, probably because our ancestors, which is the reason that all of us are here, were scared that the lion was going to eat them, right? So everything was worry, worry, worry, and complain, complain, complain. Well, today the lion's probably not going to eat you, and there's unlimited food at the door behind you. And so we don't need to worry about those things. And when you take that off the table and you say, I can't complain every minute, instead I have to take everything on my to-do list and say, what's the joy moment I get from this?
