Kevin Surace says China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea are amplifying anti-data-center protests in the U.S. to slow American AI development. A New York Times analysis found coordinated propaganda efforts by these nations targeting data-center construction, while environmental concerns about the projects are legitimate, the protest movement is being weaponized by foreign actors.

China and Russia want America to slow down on AI, and this tech pioneer revealed how they may be doing it.
I think that people have every right to say, I want you to build it environmentally sound. I get that because there are many ways to build data centers, all the way from not environmentally sound all the way to environmentally sound. So you have to ask the right questions. But instead, the great article in the New York Times just about a week ago where they did an analysis and found that China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea are stoking the flames on this anti-data data center and anti-AI movement so that the US doesn't build data centers and they build them all in China. And of course, people only just have to read the New York Times to understand that. But these people protesting data centers probably aren't reading the New York Times. I don't think they read. I don't know, because this isn't hard science to understand. So my point is, if you get that many people protesting data centers, these are also people against AI in general. If you listen to the rhetoric, you go, these people work at big companies.
