Why I’m Starting a Blog in 2026 — Jannese Answers Every Objection
12 Jul 2026 · 18 min
In this episode of the Business Without Burnout podcast, host Kirsten Roldan interviews successful blogger Janice Torres to explore why blogging remains a viable business strategy in 2026. They debunk the myth that blogging is dead, explain how Google’s ad revenue model sustains blogs, and outline the shift from lifestyle diaries to problem‑solving, niche content that answers specific user queries. The conversation covers the interplay between AI‑driven search tools and traditional Google SEO, emphasizing that AI often struggles with niche, culturally specific topics and that human‑crafted, authoritative content still wins. Janice details how authority signals—repeat traffic, site age, clear structure—affect crawlability and rankings, and she addresses common objections about blogging’s long‑term payoff, offering guidance on research, commitment, and realistic timelines (often a year rather than many years). Throughout, they promote their “Sales Without Social” bundle and a one‑time “Passive Profit” webinar that teaches entrepreneurs how to build a blog and email system to generate sales without relying on social media. The episode blends personal anecdotes, data points (e.g., 1/3 of websites are blogs, 77% of internet users read blogs), and actionable advice, aiming to inspire listeners to start or revitalize a blog as a sustainable, low‑burnout revenue channel.

Welcome to the Business Without Burnout podcast. I'm Kirsten Roldan and I help entrepreneurs make a lot of money peacefully. I'm a New Yorker who went from working in healthcare while cleaning houses and braiding hair on the side to building a business that's generated over $4 million and counting. But there was a time I almost shut my business down because I had a lot of money but no peace. I managed to turn it around, and that's why every week I share the 4 strategies that help you grow without burnout: email marketing, team systems, and mindset. So let's dive in. I made 6 figures with under 100 subscribers. She makes 6 figures from a blog alone without selling any services. And we are two people who built 6-figure income streams without relying on social media and found each other. Now we are collaborating to help entrepreneurs learn how to make sales without social. The Sales Without Social bundle includes the full blog and email system you need to get found and paid without posting. You can only get access to it right now, so don't miss out. Join our upcoming webinar, Passive Profit: How to Get Discovered and Make Sales in 30 Days Without Posting on Social Media, happening one time only on Tuesday, July 28th. The link is in the show notes. I'm starting a blog in 2026. I mean, I do already technically have a blog, but it's not a blog like Janice teaches how to do a blog, which is why I am getting my act together inside Blog Bootcamp. And I'm so excited for you all to be able to as well. Make sure if you haven't already that you sign up for our upcoming webinar. The link is in the show notes. I've been avoiding really putting energy into a blog for years. And so I wanted to tell you what changed my mind and who actually changed it. So Janice Torres makes 6 figures from her blog alone without selling any services. And I wanted to figure out for myself and for you all. How? Because I believe it is the perfect topic for building a business without burnout. So why am I taking blogging seriously now? I will never forget someone telling me that they found me on Google when I have not put any effort into my Google presence at all. I, I, when I heard that, I was like, How is that? How is that possible? How have people found me on Google when I'm not even putting any effort at all? And also, what are they seeing? Because I don't know what's up there. And it's so funny, y'all, I still have some Facebook pictures up there of my young self. Like, I look a little crazy on Google right now, so I need to polish it up. And it's been such a big topic of conversation even in my household. For those that don't know, my husband is a YouTube expert, and he's been really getting on me about my Google presence. And he's like, they're prioritizing videos and they're prioritizing blogs and they're doing this and they're doing that. Like, you need to get on it so that you can make more money and get more leads without social media. But also, I for years have had clients in Million Dollar Email who have never posted on social media. Like, I, I talk about being social media optional with Million Dollar Email, but I still post because I like to post. Like, I like social media. But I have clients that don't even have an Instagram that are making sales. So I'm like, okay, I need to get on this train. Like, this is true peace. This is truly building a business without burnout. It's having an automated, highly professional presence that can get me leads on autopilot and being able to convert them with my email list. So I've got objections though, and I know you all do too, which is why I brought Janice on. Okay, and we're just gonna rapid fire, and I'm gonna have Janise answer every single objection one by one. Are you ready, Janise?
Let's do this, girl.
Okay, all right, so first and foremost, blogging is dead. Nobody blogs anymore. All the blogs are fake AI blogs.
I love that. That's so funny. I, I— it's funny that people say that when, um, and it's a, it's a fair assessment, and I think because a lot of people think about a blog as like an internet diary from 2012, right, where you're just like posting about your life. And I will say like, that is absolutely 100% dead, okay? Like, that— if that's what you're thinking about starting, a quote lifestyle blog, babe, just delete. Ctrl+Alt+Delete. It's not even worth your time, okay? What is actually working in the blogging space in 2026 and beyond is creating helpful content. And what that means is you are helping a user solve a problem, okay? So the most successful blogs are providing inspiration and/or information on very specific topics. And so that is like— I want you to put yourself in the frame of thought when somebody goes on the Google search engine and types in any question like how to manage your 'finances as a single mom' or 'how to take a low-budget trip to Asia' or 'how do I eat gluten-free when I love Mexican food,' right? Like, that is why people are going on Google. They need help with their problems, right? And so when you are creating content that addresses those problems, that is what Google is doing when it's funneling your blog content. And fun fact, 1/3 of all websites on the internet are blogs, okay? And 77% of internet users actually read blogs. So even if you think you don't interact with blogs, chances are that you do. Uh, and one thing that I think is important to know is that as long as Google exists, blogs will exist. Why? Because Google relies on bloggers for a huge percentage of its ad revenue. Because Google puts ads on blogs. So as long as Google has a future, blogging 100% has a future, and I'm betting the horse and stable on it.
Okay, but do people even Google anymore with ChatGPT and Claude?
Well, you know, it's, it's funny because they're complementary, right? Like, you see things like Gemini built into Google, I have no doubt that at some point platforms like ChatGPT and Claude are going to have like a Google-style interface as well, where they're like connected in a, in the way that feels more familiar from like a traditional search engine. But one thing that I found is that the more niche that your content is, the worse AI results can be. And so a good example is like if you try to Google Puerto Rican recipes on ChatGPT or Claude, like that is just making things up, okay? There's nothing authentic about Claude's arroz con gandules recipe, okay? No, ma'am, I'm not making that. And so you have to understand that like AI, yeah, it's a really cool technology, but it has such huge limitations, and mainly that human touch, like the thing that only you know, or you know, Abuela knows about the recipe, or like what's the difference between cilantro and culantro. Like there's just— it doesn't have it, right? And it's not to say like at some point the technology won't be refined, but I think there's always going to be a lack of— like the computer doesn't know how to make arroz con gandules. It's never gonna know, you know what I mean? Like that's just something a person's gonna have to be able to teach you. And so I think that's an important thing to remember. Like the winners of the future are gonna be folks who are really tied into like the human skills of communication, of critical thinking, of being able to customize the kind of support or the offer that you can give to a person. So I don't, I don't worry a ton about that.
Kirsten, can I show up in AI search? Because I do see the AI will send links to me and things like that. Is— can my— what does it prioritize? Blogs? Will it show up in Google search?
So the way that AI search is, uh, it shows up— it's interesting because it's based on basically the whole internet, right? So AI, when it's looking for how to answer your query, it's doing something very similar to what a Google algorithm would do. It's not about like tricking the algorithm. It's like, how can I get AI to trust me enough to quote my content? Okay, AI search tools are using content that is clear, specific, crawlable, which just means it's easily searchable, right? It's well structured and it's associated with authority, which is one of those things where I don't think people understand like what authority means when it comes to a website. First, authority is built by having repeat traffic, right? So like the more that people come back to your website because you're providing good content, the algorithm is like, oh, there's something happening here, like we need to keep funneling people to this website because there's legit information here. It feels helpful. And that is based on like how much time people spend, you know, all that stuff. And also age is something that gives a website authority. Like the older a website is, it has more authority because it's been around for a long time, which, you know, it's funny because you think about like respect your elders. It's the same thing when it comes to, to search traffic. Um, AI loves content that answers a question directly. And so not adding a bunch of crap to your blog post where like you're trying to just, you know, trick the algorithm by stuffing it with keywords and a bunch of meaningless stuff, like that's not what gets your stuff shown. It is things that are clear, things that are helpful, things that have built-in authority.
I have always hesitated on a blog because it feels like a waste of time for me right now because it's such a long-term strategy. Do you consider blogging a long-term strategy that will take forever in order to actually see results?
You know, I think that is entirely based on your effort, to be honest, which, you know, it's kind of the same with a business. You know, it's like your level of success is going to be directly correlated to your level of, of commitment and also like how seriously you take this content. If you're going to be writing blog posts just for the sake of creating content, but you're not really thinking about like, how does this help people, then you're going to be wasting your time. Whereas when you have a very clear focus about what your niche is going to be, what kind of content is missing, right? I think that's an important part of like market research, understanding what is the gap that I can fill here, how am I going to differentiate myself. All of that stuff is going to lead to you seeing results faster. And I think about a client of mine, Joanna. She has a blog called paintingbythepenny.com, and she is a retired nurse, became a full-time content creator thanks to her blog, uh, back in 2023. And she was very clear coming into the program of like what she wanted to do. She wanted to share content around furniture renovation and redesign and just like home interior decoration stuff. And within the first year, she was getting monetized through brand deals. She was getting display ads. And I think to my own journey as a blog, it took me years. To get that. And it's because I was teaching myself all this stuff versus following a format, following a process, which I teach. And so it really is like, I see the students who come in that are just like so crystal clear on what they are going to do, and they do it. They honor the commitment, they put in the work, and they see the results quickly. And so I think you have to have that type of mindset if you want to see success.
I feel like the way people make it sound is like it's going to take years and years, but hearing that it could take a year that sounds a little more doable. But what if someone wants to get discovered and actually needs to get discovered right now?
You know, the thing about having a website, having a blog, is it lends a level of credibility and authority and professionalism to your business, even if you're just starting out, you know. And I think about— is this is very common, I don't know if you've noticed this, Kirsten Roldan, when you go to Puerto Rico and you go to like research, let's say, restaurants, right? It's hard to find a restaurant that has like an actual website. It's like a Facebook page or an Instagram, and that for me as a consumer gives me pause. It tells me this is not a serious business, right? And so I think there's something to be said about investing in the infrastructure of your digital footprint. Like, so much of how people perceive your brand is based on how seriously you make it look on the internet. And I think a blog has that power to have people take you seriously as a business owner, even if it's going to take a while for that to be a marketing channel that is based on search traffic. You know, when somebody clicks on your ManyChat automation and goes to your website and sees like, oh wow, she's got like a blog and a contact page and about me, and I can find out all this information about her, like that adds to the credibility, which I think is something that not enough people think about.
Okay. I've been coming at it as, you know, the person with objections, but now I want to share the breakthroughs I've had in this. You said so many things. Number one, when you said Google makes money from ad revenue and as long as Google is going, blogs are going, that blew my mind. I loved that. Also, just hearing you speak about professionalism and how you're setting yourself apart no matter what, even if you don't, you know, get found right away, let's just say, which is not going to happen. Even when you were talking about professionalism and how it's setting you apart, it really was making me think about how just rare that is nowadays because I feel like there's such a low barrier to entry for business owners now, which is a beautiful thing. But also what really sets someone apart. I mean, I can't tell you how many people will say they comment on my website, they comment on this, really shows me you're legit and it means a lot that you look legit. You know, I think that's so important. But also when you were going, you were like, I was like, she's like a search engine scientist. Like literally, like, this is how the crawlability and this is how it does this and this is how it does that. I was like, Oh my goodness. All that's missing for me right now and why I'm so excited to start a blog in 2026 and why I'm excited to have my clients do the same is that search engine science, is that expertise. Yeah. What I'm hearing is you're not just teaching blogging, and I think my, what really pers— like shifted my perspective completely in this episode was this is not about writing a blog or like what you said, you're not doing a lifestyle blog, those are dead. But this is about search engine science and discoverability and using a blog to get you discovered because Google makes the majority of its income from blog revenue. So Google prioritizes blogs. I was like, yes, mind blown.
It's like when you understand the key players in this space, you understand who you need to be working for. And in our case as bloggers, like, we're working for Google because Google is the one that's going to decide, is this content that's worth showing to people or it's not? And so for your brand, for any brand, that means creating posts around questions that your audience is already asking.
Incredible. Incredible. I'm so, I'm so excited to really dive into my blog and to help other people do it too. This is exactly why we're collaborating together and created an incredible bundle for entrepreneurs. It's called the Sales Without Social bundle.
