My Journey from inflamed + 20lbs heavier to Biohacked

Solo introductory episode of the new podcast "The Biohack Method" (host: Lindsey Burwell). Lindsey narrates a long personal health journey—years of gut inflammation, ~25 lb weight change, hormone dysfunction, infertility linked to an MTHFR gene mutation, severe postpartum hemorrhage and ICU stay, a near-misdiagnosis of melanoma, meningitis and dental/root canal complications—and explains how those experiences led her into naturopathic medicine and biohacking. She outlines podcast goals (peptides, transdermal patches, metabolism, detox, longevity, nervous system regulation), promises practical, research-aware guidance and client success stories, and invites listeners to follow and submit questions.

Welcome to the Biohack Method. I am Lindsey Burwell. I break down the science, cut the fluff, and give you real tools to optimize your body with peptides, transdermal patches, and root cause biohacking that actually works. I have had it on my heart for so long to do a podcast, but I've just been, like, dragging my feet, honestly, because, you know, we have a million things to do. I'm like, seeing clients and I'm working the peptides and all the things. And then I started realizing, like, you know what? I want to be able to go deeper with people. I want to be able to, like, show more of myself and my personality and, like, the depths of my stories. It's so much more than like a 30 second or like three minute clip on Instagram. And also, like, with clients and working with people, I get the same. I get so many similar questions over and over. And I'm like, I feel like I need, like a house to, like, put these deep dives in. Whether it be about metabolism or detoxing our liver or peptide dosing or just anything, all of it, right? And how do you do this? Or what's your favorite thing you like to eat? What's a day in the life? I'm like, I just need a place for this to go. So this is the Biohacked method and we're going to cover all things metabolism, biohacking, peptides, transdermal patches, longevity. What's the research showing? What are people trying? What am I trying that's working? What have I tried that did not work? Client testimonials, like, success stories. Stories that, like, two steps forward, one step back. Just honestly, all of it, I really don't even know. I feel like the sky's the limit and we're. I just want to have fun with it. I just want to, like, be me, show my share my story and just truly, like, have fun with it. So I'm even, like, tonight. So we are flying to Oregon and I have made. I made a commitment to myself this week. I am recording my first podcast with the first little recording. And I have had a million reasons why not to sit down and record this. I'm packing. I'm prepping everything. I've had meetings with fulfillment. I had a longevity training. I. I was on my first podcast today. My daughter started kindergarten. Oh, my gosh. Trying to be present with my kids, trying to do it all. And finally after dinner, I'm like, hey, we're just gonna sit down and we're gonna do this. So this first one really is just. I just sharing about how I got to where I am from, like the experience that I had. So I. How I got into this work was for a decade of my life, I just truly felt awful. I was 25 pounds heavier than I am now. I had debilitating gut issues, whether it was ibs, C or ibsd. Always inflamed. I was even like running marathons. Like in college. I literally was running marathons, doing cardio, working out, eating healthy. I loved fruit, I loved vegetables. But I was just living off of adrenals and cortisol and not getting good protein in. I wasn't strength training, I wasn't working on blood sugar. There was so many things that were just all over the place. I wasn't honoring circadian rhythm. Nothing that I knew anything about either. I just figured eating, you know, fruit and veggies, I'd be great. But I just genuinely, like, felt awful. It wasn't even about, like, the aesthetics. It genuinely was. I didn't feel good. I felt like my metabolism was off, my body was off. I didn't feel like in alignment with my body. And it really wasn't until I met with a naturopathic physician and like, my brain exploded. I was like, oh, my gosh, the body can heal itself. Like, I'm meant to feel good. I don't need to band aid this. I don't need to, you know, get on prescription. I don't need to go to CVS and buy all these things. Like, I can heal my body with love and grace. Getting back to, you know, really our biological rhythms. And I just went all in on learning about it, studying it, and now know, fast forward, it's been 15 years. I can say, like, the work is just so worth it. And the quality of life you get with it is just worth the two steps forward and the one step back. And just even in the last few years, working with clients and hearing their stories on like, the things that are holding them back and how they're feeling and how they're not able to show up and the actions and inactions they take because they just don't feel great. And they're trying. They're actually like, really trying. So I just, I dove head first into learning all about the world of naturopathic medicine. Hormones, metabolic health, metabolism, detoxification, the mtf, HR gene mutation, which I found, I had, I found that was causing, you know, infertility for me. I've had like the craziest health stories. You guys, like okay, so I, you know, had those debilitating years of, like, all the gut issues, anxiety, hormone problems, all of that. Then I had. I had a really hard time getting pregnant with my first. I look back, and I probably had some layer of, like, PCOS going on, for sure. Blood sugar, dysregulation, long periods again, anxiety, all of that. Gut issues, hyper inflamed, and then got pregnant. And when I went to get pregnant for my second, I couldn't. We end up doing ivf. We did a lot of testing. Come to find out it was, like, mainly genetic, but a lot of it was due to the methylation MTFHR gene mutation that I have. And so that was, like, really hard. Had a really hard pregnancy because my. That, like, when you go through infertility, if you've ever been through the IVF world, you just get, like. It's like, you get it. Like, if you've been. It just drags you through the mud. Mentally, emotionally, physically. And so my pregnancy was emotionally very hard. Postpartum, almost died. Had a home birth with my daughter. Everything went fine, but my placenta wouldn't come out. I started hemorrhaging. Transferred me to the hospital. I was so pissed. Get to the hospital. They can't stop the bleeding. I basically almost bled out. Went under. Had to, like, lost blood pressure there a few times. Ended up in icu. Like, crazy health stories. And then. Then it was like, Covid hit. Then I got meningitis. During COVID I'm like, what is happening? This is all while I'm, like, learning all about my health. And so if you are, like, one, like, if you're like me, where you're, like, learning about something and you feel like you're getting the worst of it. Like, I know I have a friend who's an esthetician, and she's like, I care more about, like, you know, skin health and, like, esthetician, and, like, my skin feels like, the worst, you know, and it's like sometimes I feel like we go through those hard things to make a steak even deeper so we can serve and love and help people from a layer that most people would never even touch because they never had to feel the depths of that pain and that suffering. So I just. I always say, like, our trials are our greatest teachers, and we can use that to, like, really serve and to just help other people again in layers that we wouldn't have been able to. And then after that, I had, like, I had. Oh, I had a root canal that went wrong at that time. I Didn't real. I didn't know how bad root canals were. Ended up, like, rotting part of my gum. So got the root canal pulled out, took that out, actually, like, remove the tooth. Like, I have had to learn every facet of every part of my health because I experienced, like, serious trial and suffering. At one point, we thought that I had stage four melanoma. I am not creating this up, you guys. When people are like, how do you know so much? I'm like, because I had to learn a lot because I was going through a lot. Um. Yeah. Was dying. Oh, my gosh. This. This story is so wild. So my mom had melanoma. So I've always been on top of my skin health, yearly checks, all of that. Go in for a check? Actually, no, I went in for, like, an extra check because there was a mole that changed. And I'm just, like, really on top of things. So go in to get my mole checked. And I'm like, this one looks weird. They're like, yeah, let's biopsy it. But, like, it's probably fine. They biopsy. I didn't hear back for a while, so started freaking out. That's never happened. And then they called. They called me back finally, by the grace of God. I was with my mom again. Has gone through stuff like this. So they. They were very somber, and they're like, yeah, you know, it's not good. We had pathology look at it from Stanford, and it looks very aggressive, stage four. But they were like. But we did, like, send it out to. To. To genetic testing, and it came back benign on the genetic testing, on the DNA testing. But since pathology, like, what it looks like looks very aggressive, really bad. Like, we're gonna have to transfer you to oncology. I'm like a cancer center like me. I. And at that point, this. This. So this was probably, like, only three, four years ago. I had. I was the healthiest I'd ever been, like, actually healthy. Not just before thinking I was dialed in in many ways. Sauna, cold plunge, blood sugar, strength training, you name it. Like, just in it to win it. And I just. I dropped in my body and, like, was like, no, I. I feel great. Something is off here. Like, this. This is a misdiagnosis. I knew I'm very intuitive. Like, super spiritual, super intuitive. I knew nothing was wrong. And I was very frustrated with, like, why I was going through the motions of oncology. Went to oncology. So depressing, so traumatic. And come and just awful. Honestly, I thought we, like, thought we were gonna have another baby. At the time, had to cancel those and we had to go through surgery like the doc. I thought I'd go into the doctor. They said, are you fine? Anyways, long story long, they biopsy my leg. They cut, they stapled nine inches. I had nine inches of staple in my thigh. Like, if you ever see pictures of me working out, you can totally get a glimpse of this. I thought I was getting a little like scissor cut, a little stitch. No, it was nine inches of staples. I had a lymph node removed. I woke up the next day in such denial of the life I was living. I was like, how is this my story? Literally, how is this my story? And just so frustrated with God. Honestly, just kind of like, have I not gone through enough? Like, I have always stayed faithful to your path for me, to everything I've been through. And like, have I not had enough? Have I not learned enough? Like, have I not been faithful enough? Like, just so mad, so frustrated and got the call back that it was completely benign and everything was fine and it was an out of like they could not believe that it was truly not even cancer. Like they just by, by the look of it. And when I dropped into my body, like I just had this knowing of like something bad could have been brewing, but because of all the great things I had been doing for my health, it like capitalized and it just shut it down. Like my, my cells just shut. Whatever activity could have been happening, you know, bad cells replicating, all of that. And so yeah, I've like been through crazy things and it's made me, it's like truly forced me to learn so much and I'm so grateful for that. And that's really why I have start. I started my business is to like give back and serve and to fulfill this calling that I have to like help people just feel their best step into their best selves so they can serve more and love more and feel more in alignment with like who they were, who they were meant to be. And it's been an amazing ride. I'm so excited to dive into these podcasts and share more. I know my next one is going to be a lot about peptides because that is the buzz and everyone has all the questions and I'm obsessed with the transformations I see I have hundreds of clients use utilizing peptides right now and messaging me like I can't even keep up every day of like what is happening to them on a non scale level. Like, it's just truly remarkable. So that really is why this podcast exists. Like why I wanted to create it for a space for especially women to just like be able to connect in here from other like minded women who want to optimize, who want to step into their highest self. Because you truly do just deserve to have someone in your corner. I'm a big believer that you are the average of like the five people you surround yourself with. So you, you're surrounding yourself with energy and who are looking to, to grow and want to have that growth mindset, who are expansive, who see opportunity in everything, who see goodness in every person, love in every person. Like, I just want everyone to feel like they have someone in that corner that can breathe life into them and believe in them and be their cheerleader. We're going to talk about so many things. We're going to talk about Peptides. Detox, metabolism, nervous system regulation, what seems to be working, what doesn't. Inflammation, the chaos. Like, I'm just going to cut the fluff. We're not going to band aid anymore. We're going to really break it down. Easy to digest, quick fixes, simple steps that you can take every day to just like feel better. Okay, well, that's it for today. I need to go back and get to packing because we are headed to Oregon. We go there every year, the end of the year. And I actually didn't realize that my daughter started kindergarten and so she will go one day to kindergarten and then miss a week of school, which is like kind of my cadence. We just are up and going all the time. But yes, I'm excited to see my family. They live on this like 8 acre farm and it's so cute. The kids have the best time. But so excited for the next one. Again, we are going to talk about all things peptides. Make sure to click follow so you get those notifications that there's a new episode.
